Felicia is joined by Seth Vargas to discuss Arthur C. Miller's brooding camera as it follows Jimmy Ringo in The Gunfighter (1950). We chat about how the photography complements the stories ticking clock, and why the black and white imagery elevates this cerebral western. This is the final episode in the Arthur C. Miller series and I'm so glad I finally highlighted another cinematographer on the show. I hope you're inspired to watch more of his work and learn more about his craft. In this episode, with guest interviewer Pauletta Jackson, we visit with Dr. Arthur C. Jones, founder of the Spirituals Project and author of Wade in the Water: the Wisdom of the Spirituals. Dr. Jones introduces us to the importance of these songs, part of the cultural heritage of enslaved Africans, how the practice of singing became significant in resistance, survival and the reinforcement of community in times of great struggle. Dr. Jones discusses how these songs carry forward to generations who find these and new meanings in the music while enriching both the listeners and the artists who sing them. His education and practice as a clinical psychologist, teacher, a scholar of the roots and development of Spirituals and indeed, signing from the canon, formed his deep understanding explored in this episode.

HARLAN ELLISON Y A.E. VAN VOGT - LOS OPERADORES HUMANOS (THE HUMAN OPERATORS). He seguido las indicaciones de los autores y he buscado la pieza musical que recomendaron para leer "Los operadores humanos". Música de Jacques Lasry, tocada en Structurqs Sonares Lasr «The Time eaters». Arthur lives in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with his wife, Liz and dog and cat. He studied student and family ministry at Lancaster Bible college. For 10 years he served as a youth pastor and then felt God’s nudge to leave student ministry and move on to something different. He and his wife built a passion for orphans and vulnerable children. They walked alongside a lot of kids who were facing significant difficulties and trauma. From this experience he learned that kids from hard places have significant barriers to receiving the gospel. He made a video series called, Trusting the God of the Gospel that helps caregivers and families disciple adopted or foster teenagers. Arthur and Liz have been in the adoption process for several years now. He shares his journey through failed adoption and some of the difficulties he and his wife faced. They also fostered for 2 years. He shares how adoption and foster care is a faith journey, is not always easy and how important it is to be steadfast through it all. Lastly, he shares practical advice to those starting on the adoption and foster care road. Resources: www.127worldwide.org Have any questions or feedback? WELCOME BACK!It's a natural progression for many business executives: once you've conquered the business world, it's time to conquer the world of politics. Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson of WKRP Radio in Cincinnati is one such business executive. Art's been bitten by the political bug! He's ready to steer Cincinnati in the right direction as an esteemed member of the Queen City's Council. Current incumbent Charles "Chuck" Tillman isn't delivering the goods in Art's eyes. He's missing meetings, missing votes and generally NOT doing the job he was elected to do. According to Bailey's old college roommate, Chuck's lack of participation might have something to do with his drinking. Drinking?! That's a bombshell!! But, come on, they can't use something like that!! Even Bailey, who delivered this news, said they can't use something like that (so, hmmm...why did she SAY it?) There's general agreement it shouldn't be used (Herb's not so sure). Unfortunately, saying you won't use it is one thing...knowing that bit of information while in the heat of the debate proves too tempting. Art blurts it out in anger. Les is getting down in the muck on the phone, Jennifer is racking up the campaign contributions and Mitzi wants to get that stain out!! Haven't voted lately? It's time to cast YOUR vote for Arthur C. Carlson...paid for by The Committee to Elect Carlson...Herbert R. Tarlek, Chairman. Now, do your civic duty and push "play." WATCH ALONG DETAILS...[Want to watch along with us? It's a blast!! We highly recommend the 'Shout Factory' boxed DVD set of the entire WKRP series. For reasons you'll have to listen to in the "Prolog" episode, all streaming versions of the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" have had the original music cues removed. Generic music beds and stings were used in place of the original music for the syndicated version of the series. 'Shout Factory' has been able to restore an estimated 85% of all WKRP music cues to the original "as-aired" content for their DVD release. They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. Over 88 episodes that's more than four hours of lost content, including the performance by "Detective" at the end of "Hoodlum Rock." Get the COMPLETE series...get the Shout Factory DVDs. The Shout Factory complete series box has a release date of 2014. All individual seasons of Shout Factory disks were released starting in 2015.]The WKRP-Cast is a weekly re-watch podcast spending time with the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" which aired from 1978-82. RockerMike and Rob discuss The legend of the Mummy. A mummy is a dead human or an animal whose soft tissues and organs have been preserved by either intentional or accidental exposure to chemicals, extreme cold, very low humidity, or lack of air, so that the recovered body does not decay further if kept in cool and dry conditions. Some authorities restrict the use of the term to bodies deliberately embalmed with chemicals, but the use of the word to cover accidentally desiccated bodies goes back to at least 1615 AD (see the section Etymology and meaning). The English word mummy is derived from medieval Latin mumia, a borrowing of the medieval Arabic word mūmiya (مومياء) and from a Persian word mūm (wax),[6] which meant an embalmed corpse, and as well as the bituminous embalming substance, and also meant "bitumen".[7] The Medieval English term "mummy" was defined as "medical preparation of the substance of mummies", rather than the entire corpse, with Richard Hakluyt in 1599 AD complaining that "these dead bodies are the Mummy which the Phisistians and Apothecaries doe against our willes make us to swallow".[8] These substances were defined as mummia. * Aufderheide, Arthur C. Fans of sci-fi and fringe tech may already be familiar with the idea of the “space elevator,” which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like — and totally impossible with today's technology. But a pair of scientists think they've found an alternative: a Moon elevator. And it's slightly less insane… technically. The idea of the space elevator, first explored in detail by Arthur C.
