Fans of Daniel Aleman's books are about to get to know the author even better with his new book I Might Be in Trouble. “I will say with this one character; I was very intentional about making him a mirror of myself. I wanted him to basically be me,” Aleman told Newsweek's Parting Shot. The novel follows David Alvarez, a young author whose debut success has dwindled and finds inspiration for new work after discovering a one-night stand has suddenly died in his bed. (For the record, this part of the novel is not based on Aleman.) But at its core, the dark comedy novel is about discovering your path even though it can sometimes feel uncertain. Aleman spoke with H. Alan Scott about the inspiration for the novel and whether he's still worried about finding a date dead in his bed. Cleaning out the clutter in our homes can be hard and time-consuming. We often keep too much stuff, but getting rid of it is necessary to make our living spaces more organized and comfortable. We can see the story of King Hezekiah in 2 Chronicles 29, where Hezekiah's mission to cleanse the temple, neglected and tainted by previous generations, becomes a powerful message for our personal spiritual journeys. Hezekiah's dedication to purging the temple mirrors our need to cleanse our inner lives of sin and distractions. There is an importance in maintaining a pure and orderly life, both spiritually and physically. We all need to engage in self-examination and the removal of spiritual clutter. We need to be honest with ourselves, pursuing a renewal of our commitment to God. Subscribe to Our Channel! New to LifeRock? "We ended on such a cliffhanger with Isaac presenting the wrench at the police station to Jeff Daniels' character. It allowed us to sort of start from a place of what's going to happen next? And I think because what is drawn in the novel and because of what Danny brought into the original script of the first season and all the ideas he brought in. The biggest thing we talked about was the relationship between Del Harris and Grace Poe and what is the ambiguity there? And I think when, when you start answering questions on either side of that too firmly, I think it allows the audience to disconnect from it and then they go, Oh, he's a monster, or she's a monster. And then you just have this sort of a good and bad guy, good and bad woman narrative that is oversimplified all too often in our culture.""It felt to me like a lot of the drive of season two is about payback. There are people who feel they're owed things. They want payback. There are people who feel like they have to get back at people because they've been wronged in some way. In a way, every character has something, some way that they're trying to right the wrong that was done to them or that they did in the first season. Jeff Daniel's character, Del Harris, is really driven by trying to right what he sees as wrongs that he did in the first season. "S. E. Hinton, Susie Hinton wrote The Outsiders when she was 15 and 16. It was published when she was 17. She was told by one editor in particular that she couldn't have any swear words, so she was sort of forced to write about these very big, intense, love-and-death operatic themes where there's a boy who dies by suicide by cop. There's a boy who dies from a fire. So it's about grief. His parents die in a car crash prior to all that. There's this hugely stacked deck of grief that exists in the novel. But when you read the novel, there's a very sweet and loving tone to it. So when I started working on it, I recall childhood in Joliet, Illinois. My mom was a single parent, and she raised three kids on her own on a nurse's salary. So I had to give myself permission to take her great dark themes and actions that are in her novel and like give language to it that was also from an adult world.Right now, live theater is probably much different than looking at a screen. And he's staying a little bit away from Grace because he doesn't know how much to blame her or how much were his own decisions or how much she kind of drove him to do things. So that was fun to explore."Dan Futterman is creator, executive producer, and writer of Amazon Prime's American Rust, the acclaimed crime drama starring Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney, and David Alvarez. Deep below the Mojave Desert is liquid gold — trillions of gallons of water in an underground aquifer stretching hundreds of square miles on either side of Interstate 40. It's been there for thousands of years, but only a tiny bit of it is actually tapped and harvested. Last year Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 1137, which was first implemented in January and requires all oil and gas wells to be at least 3,200 feet away from homes, schools, hospitals, daycares, parks, detention facilities and businesses open to the public. Remakes are an interesting and unfortunate part of a problematic subset of movies that have to justify their existence while somehow honoring the original film. This week's film certainly tries hard to atone for its original sins while devoting too much effort to being evocative of the original that it's trying to replace. West Side Story is rated PG-13 and was released on November 29, 2021. The movie stars Angel Elgort as Tony, Rachel Ziegler as Maria, Ariana DeBose as Anita, David Alvarez as Bernardo, and Rita Moreno as Valentina. Hosts: Daniel Levain, Ian Sweetman and Eric Sweetman. This week, Andy's got the story of David Alvarez and his potential violation of city ethics law. The former San Diego city councilman, and now candidate for the state Assembly, worked for SDG&E before the mandated “cool off” period was over. Whether he was lobbying is the big question. This has led to a fiery campaign for Assembly District 80. Alvarez and the other Democrat seeking the seat, Georgette Gómez, have been dragged in political ads for their violations of public trust. We're going to recap some political history and talk about what it all means for the special election. Plus: Gov. Gavin Newsom's plan to help with gas prices. And local governments are so over COVID. In this first part of 2, it's an all out rumble on Fabulous Film and Friends, as we compare and contrast the two visions of the classic musical West Side Story—the 1961 version directed by Star Trek The Motion Picture's Robert Wise and the 2021 version directed by Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull's Steven Spielberg. The first version starred Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer, Rita Moreno, George Chakiris and Russ Tamblyn. And the update stars Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez and Mike Faist. I'm joined once again by my stalwart war council of movie watchers and deep thinkers, Roseanne Caputi, Burton Brown, Dr. David Johnson and Gordon Alex Robertson. Welcome one and all! If, for whatever reason, you've never heard of this story and what it's all about here's, a synopsis: West Side Story is a musical retelling of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet set in late 1950's New York where in the stead of feuding Italian families it's warring ethnic gangs. The white gang call themselves the Jets and are led by Riff and Tony and a Puerto Rican gang called the Sharks led by Bernardo and Chino. Tony, however, while one of the founders of the Jets, is starting to grow up and grow past gang life and predicts something coming in the future to fulfill him. And lo and behold when he attends a dance where the Jets and Sharks are both in attendance, Tony falls slackjawed, awestruck, head over heels in love with Bernardo's younger sister Maria, who has just arrived in America. Maria, equally gobsmacked by Tony, dances with him and kisses him in front of her friends and family, which incites an all out rumble between the Jets and the Sharks. Instantly and deeply and love with each other, Tony and Maria commit to marrying each other but before they can have peace, Maria entreats Tony to stop the rumble. Tony promises he will but as the fight unfolds, Bernardo kills Riff, who is Tony's best friend and like a brother to him. Grief-stricken and angry, Tony retaliates and stabs Bernardo, killing him as well. Through plot machinations and misunderstandings similar to Romeo and Juliet, Tony and Maria's innocent and tender love is spoiled by the hatred of one group towards another and we leave the theater to ponder whether love can conquer all? Is that what's truly important as we battle over which version is better?Find out!

This week, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Eve O'Dea, Cody Dericks & Daniel Howat joined our main podcast review to discuss Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story," starring Rachel Zegler, Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist & Rita Moreno. Based on the 1957 stage musical of the same name, which was later made into a Best Picture Oscar-winning film, the film has been adapted by Tony Kushner and injected with a 2021 sensibility for its storytelling and marking the first time Steven Spielberg has ever directed a movie musical. There's so much to discuss from the acting by the ensemble, the musical numbers, the craftsmanship Spielberg and his team bring to it, how it compares to the 1961 film, its awards season prospects, and more! We certainly have a lot of opinions to share. Please take a listen down below and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
