LSU Football Way Too Early Defense Preview! What will the defensive line look like? What will DC Blake Baker do with LB Harold Perkins? Can this defense be above average to help LSU for a national title run?

The biggest question mark going into the LSU offseason post spring football was the defensive line, after guys like Maason Smith, Mehki Wingo and Jordan Jefferson departed for the NFL that left the LSU defensive line room and new defensive line coach Bo Davis to pick up the pieces. Those pieces are senior Jacobian Guillory, Florida transfer Jalen Lee, and JUCO transfer Shone Washington. Those are LSU's main three defensive lineman and then you add in former OL Kimo Makeneole, walk-on Preston Hickey, true freshman former 5-star Dominic Mckinley, Wisconsin transfer Gio Paez and Grand Valley State transfer Jay'viar Suggs. Then you move to the second level which is the linebackers, the returners there are senior Greg Penn, junior Harold Perkins, Whit Weeks, and West Weeks. Newcomers to the room are Dayvon Keys and Tylen Singleton. This may be LSU's deepest and possibly its most talented group on the defensive side of the ball but will still need the help of the defensive line to truly reach its potential. The secondary is also very talented but hasn't played a lot of football together. All in all this LSU defense should be much better than last years, they can't be much worse right? It's SHORT TIME SHOTS … a quick look at the day's top wrestling stories. Here's the good stuff for Wednesday, October 25.-In Albania at the U23 World Championships, the United States has secured more than one U23 World Champion in men's freestyle wrestling for the first time. Keegan O'Toole, Aaron Brooks, and Wyatt Hendrickson came away with gold medals for Team USA.O'Toole, a two-time age-group World Champion, defeated Imam Ganishov in the finals at 74 kg. Brooks dominated his finals match at 86 kg, winning by a 10-0 technical fall. Hendrickson bested Adil Misirci of Turkiye in the finals at 125 kg, securing a 13-3 technical fall. Additionally, Jacob Cardenas won a bronze medal, making the United States four-for-four in medal matches. The second group of men's freestyle athletes also had a strong showing. Isaac Trumble advanced to the finals at 97 kg, Doug Zapf earned a spot in the bronze medal match, and both Cooper Flynn and Brock Hardy are in repechage. Trumble will face Radu Lefter of Moldova in the finals, while Zapf will wrestle for a bronze medal after going 3-1 on the day.The United States begins women's freestyle action in Albania on Wednesday. The first five weights to be contested are 50, 55, 59, 68 and 76 kilograms. Action begins with repechage for men's freestyle and qualification rounds for women's freestyle.-The Division II Coaches Association has announced the induction of seven new members into the Jim Cook Division II Hall of Fame as part of its 2024 class. The inductees include John Davis, Donovan McMahill, Matt Meuleners, Mario Morgan, Josh Shields, Roger Singleton, and William Smith. These athletes collectively boast an impressive record, including 10 Division II National Championships, 17 trips to the NCAA Division II National Finals, and 24 total NCAA Division II All-American finishes. The induction ceremony will take place on July 26 at the Sawgrass Marriott, as part of the 2024 NWCA Convention festivities.-Among the inductees, John Davis was a four-time All-American and two-time Division 2 national champion from Morgan State. Donovan McMahill, a two-time national champion, ended his career on a 51-match winning streak for Western Colorado. Matt Meuleners holds the record for most career wins at Northern State and was a two-time national champion. Mario Morgan was a three-time All-American and national champion for Nebraska-Omaha. Josh Shields was the first Mercyhurst student-athlete to win an NCAA Division 2 individual national championship. Finally, William Smith was the first wrestler from a Historically Black College or University to win an NCAA Division-II championship and was a four-time Division-II All-American.-In the ever-evolving landscape of college wrestling, a new generation of athletes is stepping up to fill the shoes of graduating stars. For instance, Princeton's Marc-Anthony McGowan is set to replace Patrick Glory, the program's first national champion in 70 years. At Arizona State, Richie Figueroa is taking over from multiple-time All-American Brandon Courtney, and at Iowa, Drake Ayala is stepping in for the legendary Spencer Lee. The transitions are not just about matching the technical skills of their predecessors; these new athletes also have to emulate the leadership and production levels that made the outgoing seniors invaluable to their respective teams. Get a look at some of the top guys ready to step up in Earl Smith's feature on InterMat.-Mohamed Abdellatif continues his medal-winning streak at the World Combat Games, leading Egypt to a golden hat-trick in Greco-Roman wrestling. On the collegiate front, Hofstra University announces its team captains, while Rutgers wrestling aims to set the tone for their season with upcoming matches against Duke and Cal Poly. Meanwhile, the Girls High School division of the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals is set to feature 72 nationally ranked stars, making it a key early-season tournament. -Finally from The Daily Iowan, three Iowa-born wrestlers are excited to represent their home state on the Hawkeye women's wrestling squad, aiming to maintain the "Iowa style" in the wrestling room. Over at the Big 12, the focus shifts from ranking top wrestlers to ranking the strength of each weight class, adding a new layer of intrigue and discussion to the season.-The full breakdown of the day's wrestling news can be delivered to your inbox daily, courtesy of Mat Talk Online's Daily Wrestling Newsletter, delivered by Rezahlite. The D3 Cross Country season is heating up. The big meets are approaching and the performances are taking it up a notch. For Week 5, we're bring back the Pocket Aces award and recognizing someone who faired well against strong competition. The Pocket Aces award goes to Morgan Uhlhorn + Grace Richardson from NYU. This duo finished third and fourth at the Paul Short Brown Race which helped NYU take the team win. Last year, we saw a resurgence from the NYU squad and Grace Richardson was a big part of that. They finished 26th in the nation and showed flashes of their potential. Vivian Kane made the outdoor track national meet and now add in a strong first-year in Morgan Uhlhorn, the Violets are looking like a contender. We took the liberty to combine all D3 teams from Paul Short. they finished just six points behind SUNY Geneseo. With Morgan and Grace leading the way, they deserving of the Pocket Aces award. Unfortunately, we weren't able to Interview them but want to recognize them anyway. Max and North Central traveled down to Louisville to take on strong D1 and D2 competition. Max finished sixth in a race that featured Adams State, Grand Valley State and Purdue. Svienty led NCC to a fifth place team finish as well. Looking at where Max finished, he would have been the number one runner for Grand Valley and Purdue plus the number two for Adams State. When speaking to Max, he likes to go into these races with a mindset that division doesn't matter. He's ready to take on any competition and show D3 runners can be just as good. Episode 140: Dr. Phil Hellman of Paradox Health DPC - Rochester Hills, MIDr. Philip Hellman is a family medicine physician in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He had no family in medicine, but for him, the path to becoming a physician made the most sense. He went on to Grand Valley State for his bachelor's and then followed with the MSU College of Human Medicine to attain his MD. He did his residency in Greeley, Colorado at North Colorado Family Medicine. His training there was excellent and is owed in large part to an exceptional group of mentors and faculty on staff there. With his wife, Dr. Hellman relocated to Silverton, Oregon for his first job out of residency in the Summer of 2016. Although they cherished their time there, they made the tough decision a year later to move back to their family in Michigan where they felt they were being called. That year and a half of work in the healthcare industrial complex opened his eyes even further to the deficiencies of modern healthcare. Its clunky, bloated, and mis-incentivized structure was not something that excited him. He always felt terrible when a patient would get a large medical bill despite paying large insurance premiums or was told the most effective therapy for their malady was not an option. In March of 2018, he decided to form Paradox Health and start taking part in the DPC model of health care. It is something he thought about since his first year of medical school, and ultimately what he had always wanted to do. It just took the right prodding, and the right people to tell him he wasn't crazy. He currently resides in Rochester with his wife Chelsea and their four children: Merritt, Luella, Hattie, and Hannon.---------------------Check out the My DPC Story RESOURCE PAGE HERE!Find a DPC checklist on how to start your own DPC, DPC conference recordings, and more!---------------------LISTENER'S GUIDE!NEW TO THE POD? The total budget is approximately $396 million, a 1% increase over last year. The council is expected to adopt the budget on June 14, with a public hearing scheduled for June 6. Property taxes will fund 23.1% of the general fund budget, and the city plans to take $14.7 million from the Marietta Board of Lights and Water. The largest portion of the budget will be spent on public safety, with the police department receiving 29.2% and the fire department receiving 21.8%. The budget is crafted conservatively to account for any potential recession. No specific timeline was provided, but updates will be shared on social media.       STORY 5: food   Happy Helpings, Georgia's Summer Food Service Program, will be offering free meals to children at three Cobb County public libraries during weekdays in June and July. Unlike last year's drive-through service, this year's program will provide sit-down breakfast and lunch meals. The meals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The program aims to provide meals to children aged 18 and younger, as well as adults enrolled in school programs for persons with disabilities. In the latest Locked on Browns Podcast Mock Draft the Browns take Defensive Lineman Karl Brooks at pick #74. Bowling Green defensive lineman Karl Brooks projects as a hybrid-type defensive lineman in the NFL. Brooks has had a tremendous two-year stretch of splash play production for Bowling Green, and he will look to continue that momentum into the pro game—although I do have some questions about how he wins against MAC competition and how he will need to play differently against NFL talent to see comparable results.Originally an unranked recruit, Brooks played his high school football for Sexton High School in Lansing, Michigan. He was a member of Bowling Green's recruiting class of 2018 after initially committing to Grand Valley State and receiving minimal offers. Bowling Green offered him late in the process and he quickly flipped his commitment.Brooks has some really enjoyable moments on film; he'll bull-rush tackles or finesse against oversets and come crashing into the pocket to disrupt opposing passers. You wouldn't necessarily expect such a diverse pass-rush pallet from a bigger guy, but he's flashing inside counters, spin moves, and all sorts of rush counters with his hands. I like that he is capable of straight bulling soft setting tackles, too—that gives him an element to fall back on as he continues to develop as a player. He'll need it too, given I don't think his first step is going to be a consistent threat in the NFL. But he's going to give himself an opportunity to find snaps on passing downs because he clearly offers a rush plan and he's a high-motor and effort player who can be relentless in pursuit. He's a bit of a tweener from a skill set perspective relative to his build and athletic profile, though, and he's going to have to evolve one way or another to build up his opportunities beyond a designated pass rusher role in the right situation.Brooks' ability to stack blocks and negotiate the point of attack is in need of further development if he's going to play on early downs or be a starter someday. I don't have a great deal of certainty in the functional length that he plays with, and I don't see the same pop in his hands when linemen are driving toward him as I do when he's afforded the chance to attack into his rushes and that costs him leverage and ground at the point. Teams who want to run the ball will likely test him early in his career if he's on the field until he can right the pad-level inconsistencies and find a power posture more often. Even then, his violence and efficiency to disengage and deconstruct need to have more to it.#BrownsBetterHelpThis episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. BetterHelp connects you with a licensed therapist who can take you on that journey of self-discovery from wherever you are.  Visit BetterHelp.com/lockedon today to get 10% off your first month.Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. After relieving Brian Polian of his special teams duties, Brian Kelly has now found his special teams coordinator for the 2023 season. Kelly promoted senior defensive analyst, John Jancek, to special teams coordinator and outside linebacker coach/pass rush specialist. Who is Jancek and what experience does he have? In Jancek's 20+ year career as a college football coach he has never coached a special teams unit, so what did Kelly see in his former Grand Valley State defensive lineman that makes him feel he is qualified to coach a unit that looked poorly coached on several occasions throughout the 2022 season? As an outside linebacker coach, Jancek is stepping into a stacked yet wide open OLB/pass rusher room. He will have the pleasure of working with one of the best, if not the best, defensive players in college football in Harold Perkins. Plus, Jancek will work with a large transfer portal class of defensive linemen and linebackers and a young, promising 2023 recruiting class prospect in Dashawn Womack.
