We're in agreement: Mike Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the NFL.The man nearly led a Duck Hodges-quarterbacked club to the playoffs. He knows how to muck a game up and will forever ensure his team's in the playoff mix. But when it comes to the quarterback position, this is the plan? I was critical of the pivot back in the spring — Russell Wilson just may be expired milk — because, frankly, you get what you pay for at this position. There's a reason Justin Fields came so cheap, a reason the Denver Broncos are paying Wilson so much not to be their QB1.Does Tomlin see something others do not? His defense should be loaded once again.Nobody should be shocked if Joe Burrow goes scorched earth this season, too.To make sense of the entire AFC North, let's bring on a podcasting pro: Dave Dameshek. Steelers insider Mark Kaboly of The Athletic joined the show. Mark threw Tyler Boyd as a player the Steelers could possibly sign this offseason in his mailbag. Ron thinks Tomlin struggles to praise Mason Rudolph. He doesn't hesitate to praise Kenny Pickett. There's supposed to be 20-30 mph winds in Buffalo Sunday. Could this be an advantage for the Bills given Josh Allen's arm? Mark thinks the Steelers are playing with house money since they had around a 7% chance to make the playoffs weeks ago. He thinks Tomlin is back and won't take a year off. Mason Rudolph was behind guys like Josh Dobbs and Duck Hodges, he might go and try to make a lot more money and opportunity elsewhere. Mark has nothing wrong with a two year deal for Rudolph and Kenny Pickett coming back as well. 20-17 Steelers.
Hour 3 with Cook and Joe: T.J. Watt has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week. He continued to star in the last three games and was dominant. Myles Garrett is another possible option to win the award. Starkey thinks Mike Tomlin did a great job with managing the defense with so many injuries. Cleveland finished No. 1 in total defense. The Steelers averaged 19.1 points per game. Steelers insider Mark Kaboly of The Athletic joined the show. Hour 4: What type of game will we see Sunday? The guys think it's very easy to predict a low scoring slugfest. Also, a scary situation in the world of hockey is being investigated. Are callers sold on where the Steelers are right now? Poni said it feels like they are dragging a 1st round QB to winning games – another namedrop for Duck Hodges during the segment. Chris compared the Steelers offense to a lawnmower that won't start. Tomlin Takes – The guys broke down everything else Mike Tomlin said to the media earlier today.

The Steelers clawed out another win yesterday against the Packers to get them to 6-3. The offense showed at least one dimension as they ran the football for over 200 yards. But another rough day for Kenny Pickett. When, if ever, will we see the QB have a breakout game? Even Poni is worried. The guys credited the strengths of the offense yesterday – the offensive line, Jaylen Warren, Najee Harris, the play caller – basically every aspect except for Kenny Pickett. Donny said Pickett shouldn't remind us of Duck Hodges. Callers shared their thoughts from the Steelers 23-19 win over the Packers.

Chris and Donny still in disbelief over Kenny Pickett at QB3. More reaction to the Steelers week one depth chart with Kenny Pickett as QB3. Is Mike Tomlin throwing a bone to Mason Rudolph? The stunning move of the day is Rudolph over Pickett for the backup spot behind Mitch Trubisky. Chris is puzzled and said it doesn't make sense for Tomlin to go this route. A guy that was once pulled for Duck Hodges still finds his way as the backup QB. Chris said it makes more sense if the Steelers would have drafted Malik Willis or a more raw talent in the draft, not the most “pro-ready” rookie quarterback. What does this move accomplish? Chris said nothing.
The Steelers have signed Larry Ogunjobi. Ogunjobi was in the scuffle involving Mason Rudolph and Myles Garrett a few years ago while he played in Cleveland. Poni thinks this is the most disrespectful move the Steelers have done to Rudolph, topping the signing of Mitch Trubisky and drafting of Kenny Pickett because Ogunjobi is someone that called out Rudolph's character. The guys then debated if Rudolph has been treated fairly in Pittsburgh. Both think he has gotten more than his fair shake and Chris referenced Rudolph losing his job to Duck Hodges the year Ben Roethlisberger was out for the season. Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason said the team has definitely become more interesting over the last few days because of the emergence of two new young players to the equation. Not only has Oneil Cruz played well, but Bligh Madris hit his first big league home run last night after 3 hits in his debut. Jason said there hasn't been a player with an awe factor like Cruz in a very long time. Jason thinks the Pirates will take the training wheels off so the fans can keep seeing Cruz. He said the players are all-in on Cruz as much as the fans. Jason picked who out of the young players will have the best MLB career – Oneil Cruz. He expects Nick Gonzales to also have a good pro career. Jason still projects Cruz to be a corner outfielder eventually.

Final hour of the show starts with Crowley getting into Tomlin and how the cliches have never worked better or meant more than they do this season. The Standard is the Standard, Next Man Up, Paint the Barn Red, Etc.... All of these apply to this team this year maybe more than ever, and you can't account for just how much Mike Tomlin has meant for this teams success this year. Crowley then gets into Duck Hodges and how he doesn't seem as anywhere close to being the heir apparent in Pittsburgh, but he does ponder what the future here may hold for young Devlin. Hottest take of the day, other crap, and the three stars of the show.

You've found The Crowley Show and the Steelers whooped up on some Cardinal ass yesterday to get to 8-5 and once again the defense carried them to victory. The Crowl man opens up the show by talking about that defense that is just loaded with freaks of nature, including TJ Watt, The Master Baitor. He then gets into Duck Hodges and how when you are critical of our little feathered friend, you have to do so on a curve. He ain't the second coming of Big Ben and noone should even be bringing Big Ben's name up when discussing Duck's play. We close out the hour with the incredibly popular segment, SANGRY! tweets....after a win.

Jeff Lloyd and Pete Smith get you all you need to know for Sunday at Pittsburgh. Duck Hodges gets the start but missing the Steelers biggest weapons. Pouncey is not there so Browns need to create the chaos the did against Rudolph, disguise coverage and blitz looks have the youngster seeing ghosts. On, O Gtob or not you need to continue featuring the playmakers and keep Baker and this unit in sync. See it, believe it, do it. No turnovers on O cause turnovers on D. Final hour of the show gets started with Crowley taking a closer look at Duck Hodges start last night. It was an incredible win, and a very gutsy effort from the young Duck, but don't let this give you any ideas. Crowley tells you why he knows it's Mason's job when the team comes back from their bye week and how he always wants to have pedigree at the QB position. He gets into the Penguins dominance of late as they are clearly back and on their way to Stanley Cup number 6. Crowley gives Tomlin praise for getting that win and keeping his team focused during this stretch where any average coach in the NFL would have lost his locker room by now. Hottest take of the day, other crap, and the three stars of the show.
