Ballon D‘oR Shortlist: Messi #7 INCOMING! Lewandowski, Benzema Jorginho! 18 Year Old Pedri SHINES!

Barca Breakdown (FC Barcelona)

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 12, 2021 8:57

The BarcaBreakdown discuss the 30 man short list for the Ballon D'oR, as Lionel Messi looks clear to pick up his 7th golden ball this winter. Unfortunately, only 1 FC Barcelona player appeared on the list, which was the Golden Boy of the Euros, Pedri! We discuss the likely top 3 for the award, along with the lack of FC Barcelona players and those who we believe should be on the list like Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay. The BarcaBreakdown discuss what is stopping Lionel Messi from winning the 2021 Ballon D'Or. Answer: NOTHING! After being the top scorer, assister, best player, and CHAMPION of the 2021 Copa America, Lionel Messi looks clear to take home his 7th Ballon D'or to the Camp Nou and FC Barcelona/Argentina fans. As ESPNFC covered earlier this summer, nothing will stop Messi due to his outrageous 2021 and finally breaking the curse and winning an international title for Argentina. We discuss the possible reasons Messi may not win. For one, Robert Lewandowski should rightfully have on the 2020 award. We worry he may get some votes as compensation for the fact that France Football not awarding the Ballon d'Or in 2020. We also think voter fatigue might set in, so that some may not want to keep giving Messi the same award year after year. Jorginho also has a case, as he was the winner of the Champions League with Chelsea, and the Euros with Italy. N'golo Kante also won with Chelsea and was a favorite, but France's poor performance at the Euros leave his hopes in major doubt. Karim Benzema has also made a name for himself for the Ballon D'oR this year with his wonderful play for Real Madrid and France Overall, we think Messi should walk away easy with the award. Captain, Copa America Champion, Copa Del Rey Champion, and undoubtedly the best player of 2021 (and of all time). Please like, comment and subscribe to our channel! Did England really need another CB in Ben White? Or does that mean there's an injury concern for Harry Maguire? We also talk about Jordan Henderson's arrogance in stealing the penalty from Calvert-Lewin, missing it and then laughing about how he's missed more important penalties. Roy Keane wasn't too impressed, and neither were we.In the French camp, Karim Benzema has been called back after 5 years and that could have led to some fireworks between him and Olivier Giroud, after the infamous go-kart comparisions. Always the gentleman though, Giroud calmly diffused the situation. We also talk about the Brazilian national team's refusal to play the relocated Copa America, and what that means for head coach Tite and President Jair Bolsonaro.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram @cornerflagpodVisit us on www.thecornerflag.inSubscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts from and don't forget to give us a 5 star review!

The top four race is fully on and Rebecca & Alex are back to discuss Liverpool and Chelsea's recent form, plus a bunch more football news. We kick off with Liverpool and debate whether Alisson Becker's headed goal against West Brom was the 'Goal of the Century', as well as Nat Phillips' contributions vs Burnley, Bobby Firmino's brilliance, and that big win over Manchester United. Chelsea went 1-1 in their mini-series against Leicester City, losing the FA Cup Final but winning the Premier League contest. We chat about the difference in the two matches, the Jorginho dilemma and why Brendan Rodgers can't seem to maintain top four form at Leicester. And we also preview Leicester vs Tottenham & Aston Villa vs Chelsea, delve into the Women's Champions League final and Barcelona's dominant win over Chelsea, where Harry Kane might go next, Roy Hodgson's retirement, Nuno Espirito Santo's next move, and Karim Benzema's surprise recall to the France squad. Plus, more VAR nonsense, cloning Pep Guardiola, Mourinho inadvertently helping Manchester City, Tuchel & Terry, centre back anxieties, heading everything, extra credit for mind games, the story of the beeping fridge, Irn Bru legs, problematic Instagram Stories, the emotion of a poppy, a one woman show, triangles to squares, and Disco Panicking.
