We had a fantastic session today with Neil Mehta, Managing Director and Head of North American Natural Resources Research at Goldman Sachs. Neil oversees research coverage for oil and gas, utilities, midstream, metals and mining and clean technology and also leads coverage for large cap energy equities. Neil's coverage and knowledge breadth allowed for a fascinating range of topics. Our conversational tour of today's energy world included background on Goldman's energy research team, how Neil would rank the outlook for the various energy sectors, the current types of investors interested in the energy sector and how it has changed this year, the competition for talent across all industries and why it's particularly important in energy, return of capital and the importance for companies to differentiate themselves, the recently passed IRA, cost of capital and cost of supply, Neil's longer range oil demand outlook, with all of it infused by comments on affordability, reliability, and energy security. We even touched on the all-important "terminal value" issue for energy stocks. Wow... thank you again Neil! To start the show, Mike Bradley reviewed equity and commodity performance from the past week and flagged the upcoming Fed meeting (Wednesday, Sept. 21) and expected basis point rate hike. He then shared four key investor topics for the near and immediate term. Colin Fenton picked up the inflation topic and provided a backdrop of a few non-energy commodity prices, gasoline prices, and US natural gas to illustrate the full extent of what the Fed and we could be facing. Thanks to you all. It was great fun to visit with Neil and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Disclosures:The views stated by non-Goldman Sachs personnel do not necessarily reflect those of Goldman Sachs.Goldman Sachs owns 1% or more of a class of securities of SOUTHWESTERN ENERGY COMPANY, MEG ENERGY CORP, KOSMOS ENERGY LTD., PIONEER NATURAL RESOURCES COMPANY and CANADIAN NATURAL RESOURCES LIMITED .EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION, SCHLUMBERGER N.V., OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION, APA CORP, HESS CORPORATION, MURPHY OIL CORPORATION, OVINTIV INC., PIONEER NATURAL RESOURCES COMPANY, DIAMONDBACK ENERGY, INC., MARATHON OIL CORPORATION, PARKLAND CORPORATION, SOUTHWESTERN ENERGY COMPANY, MEG ENERGY CORP, HELMERICH & PAYNE, INC., HALLIBURTON COMPANY, CENOVUS ENERGY INC., IMPERIAL OIL LIMITED, NATIONAL FUEL GAS COMPANY, LIBERTY ENERGY INC., MAGNOLIA OIL & GAS CORPORATION, NOV INC., PHILLIPS 66, HF SINCLAIR CORPORATION, CONTINENTAL RESOURCES, INC., DEVON ENERGY CORPORATION, COMSTOCK RESOURCES, INC., RANGE RESOURCES CORPORATION, MARATHON PETROLEUM CORPORATION, BAKER HUGHES COMPANY, COTERRA ENERGY INC., EOG RESOURCES, INC., QUANTA SERVICES, INC., CHEVRON CORPORATION, CONOCOPHILLIPS, CANADIAN NATURAL RESOURCES LIMITED and SUNCOR ENERGY INC. are clients of Goldman Sachs that received investment banking services in the last 12 months.EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION, SCHLUMBERGER N.V., OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION, VALERO ENERGY CORPORATION, APA CORP, HESS CORPORATION, OVINTIV INC., PIONEER NATURAL RESOURCES COMPANY, DIAMONDBACK ENERGY, INC., MARATHON OIL CORPORATION, PARKLAND CORPORATION, SOUTHWESTERN ENERGY COMPANY, MEG ENERGY CORP, HELMERICH & PAYNE, INC., HALLIBURTON COMPANY, CENOVUS ENERGY INC., IMPERIAL OIL LIMITED, NATIONAL FUEL GAS COMPANY, LIBERTY ENERGY INC., PHILLIPS 66, HF SINCLAIR CORPORATION, KOSMOS ENERGY LTD., CONTINENTAL RESOURCES, INC., DEVON ENERGY CORPORATION, COMSTOCK RESOURCES, INC., RANGE RESOURCES CORPORATION, MARATHON PETROLEUM CORPORATION, BAKER HUGHES COMPANY, COTERRA ENERGY INC., EOG RESOURCES, INC., CHEVRON CORPORATION, CONOCOPHILLIPS, CANADIAN NATURAL RESOURCES LIMITED and SUNCOR ENERGY INC. are clients of Goldman Sachs that received non-investment banking securities related services within the last 12 months.EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION, SCHLUMBERGER

Today's Flash Back Friday is from episode 406 which was first published last August 29, 2014. Tom Essaye is the Editor of The Sevens (7:00) Report. He joins the show to discuss macroeconomic topics including China, Russia, and junk bonds.    Essaye is a professional trader with more than 10 years experience trading foreign and domestic equities, commodities, currencies and bonds.     He began his career as a trader on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for Merrill Lynch's Institutional Equity Trading division, where he regularly traded multi-million dollar orders from clients that were some of the largest mutual and hedge funds in the world.     In early 2005, Tom Essaye recognized, through his own fundamental analysis and research, a unique investment opportunity developing in the natural resource sector and commodities markets. He left the floor of the NYSE to join an associate starting a fledgling global macro hedge fund focused on investing in commodities and natural resource equities. Mr. Essaye was responsible for all trading in the fund and for conducting fundamental research in the commodities and natural resource markets.     The fund made investments in precious metals, agricultural commodities, energy, and natural resource related equities – placing initial long positions in gold below $500/oz, silver below $7.00/oz, corn below $2.00/bushel and buying shares in then little followed equities such as Silver Wheaton, Newmont Mining, Cameco and EOG Resources. The fund also invested in Canadian and Australian mining and energy companies, and at one point foreign equities comprised nearly half of the fund's portfolio.     In mid-2007, while managing the energy sector portion of the fund, Mr. Essaye was one of the first analysts to realize the potential of shale natural gas, and invested heavily in shale gas producers and energy service companies that specialized in shale drilling.     While interacting with both institutional and retail investors during his time at the fund, Mr. Essaye first began to recognize the large discrepancy between the quality of information available to professional traders versus the that available to non-professional traders. The 7:00's Report is the result of his desire to show the investing public how professional traders analyze and interpret the markets each day, and to demonstrate how, by trading a real money portfolio, that analysis translates to trade ideas and, ultimately, profitable investments.   Visit the Sevens Report at www.SevensReport.com.   The WEALTH TRANSFER is happening FAST! Stock markets sold off again this week on renewed concerns over bond yields and the Fed’s unwillingness to engage in any kind of yield curve control, or YCC. A late rally on Friday stopped a lot of the bleeding, but for the week all but the Dow Industrials index were lower. Fed chair Jerome Powell dodged questions over YCC in a Q&A session on Thursday and reiterated the Fed’s dovish stance on rates, causing most of the week’s selling. Stocks rebounded after non-farm payrolls beat estimates Friday morning before retreating anew, and then rebounding again in the afternoon. After all was said and done the Dow eked out a 0.2% gain for the week, while S&P 500 gave up 0.7%. Tech and small-caps saw worse damage, with the Nasdaq dropping 3.4% and Russell 2000 off 2.5%. Winners & Losers Oil and energy stocks were the big winner. Brent crude rose more than 7% this week and the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEARCA:XLE) gained 3.5%. Several oil stocks set 52-week highs, including Exxon (NYSE:XOM), ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), EOG Resources (NYSE:EOG), Hess Corp (NYSE:HES), Marathon Oil (NYSE:MRO), and Total SE (NYSE:TOT). Diamondback Energy (NASDAQ:FANG) shares added 18% for the week, also setting a 52-week high. Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXY) rallied by 12% and Devon Energy (NYSE:DVN) was up 11%. The ‘reopening trade’ had some stocks in the winners’ column as well. Trip Advisor (NASDAQ:TRIP) rallied 19%. Norwegian Cruise Lines (NYSE:NCLH) shares are up 14% this week. Reddit WallStreetBets stocks quietly had a strong week. GameStop (NYSE:GME) rallied 22% and Rocket Companies (NYSE:RKT) gained 35% even after a drop today. Tech stocks were the big loser, with this week’s rout wiping $1.6 trillion from the industry. Shares of Okta (NASDAQ:OKTA), DocuSign (NASDAQ:DOCU), and Zoom Video Communications (NASDAQ:ZM) saw some of the heaviest selling. Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM), Twitter (NYSE:TWTR) and Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) all saw drops of around 10%. Some REITS performed poorly as well. American Tower (NYSE:AMT) gave up 10% this week. What Caught Our Eye(s) This Week Kim: Scott Minerd’s prediction that the 10-year will resume its rally, with yields topping out at -0.5%; Brad: Electric vehicle stocks sell off to put investors to the test; Stephen: Bill Ackman and Chamath Palihapitiya's hot SPACs see shaky trading; About This Podcast Alpha TALKS Wall Street Breakfast is a weekly podcast covering what moved markets this week (WMMTW), featuring a panel of Seeking Alpha editors. Big Picture Stocks started the week strongly before coming up for air on Friday. Concerns over rising coronavirus cases in China coupled with disappointing earnings reports from IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) weighed on risk assets early Friday. Major indexes trimmed losses later in today’s trading session and finished green for the week. Winners & Losers Other than Bernie Sanders memes, many winners are anticipated beneficiaries of the Biden administration’s climate initiatives. Solar companies such as Sunpower (NASDAQ:SPWR), Enphase Energy (NASDAQ:ENPH), and Canadian Solar (NASDAQ:CSIQ) rallied. Polar Power (NASDAQ:POLA) was one of the biggest winners, with its shares gaining 81% this week. U.S. automakers Ford (NYSE:F) and General Motors (NYSE:GM) rallied early in the week on their electrical vehicle initiatives before giving up some gains Friday. Home builders performed well, with shares of D.R. Horton (NYSE:DHI) and Pulte Homes (NYSE:PHM) adding double digit percentages. Financials and energy names were among the losers. The Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSEARCA:XLF) is down about 3% with its energy equivalent (NYSEARCA:XLE) dropping 5%. Oil producers ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), EOG Resources (NYSE:EOG), National Oilwell Varco (NYSE:NOV) are down double digits. Shares of Haliburton gave up 11% week-over-week. Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) had a strong week after earnings, rallying by 16% to a new all-time high. During this 25+ minute interview, Jason start off by asking Dan if President Trump has done any pro oil or pro energy things in his 6 weeks in office? Dan says it hasn't happened yet but Trump's corporate tax cuts will also benefit the oil and gas industry once they are implemented. Next, Jason asks Dan about the inventory increases in gasoline in the US? Dan says it's not a sign of a massive supply glut and he points out how there's been absolutely enormous (hundreds of billions of dollars) in capex cuts for the oil industry to bring on new long lead time projects and find new oil reserves. Jason also asks Dan about the margins of onshore independent oil producers like EOG Resources and what margin they have at current WTI prices? Dan gives out some oil and natural gas stocks he likes with good valuations and also good growth and he offers Wall St for Main St listeners $100 off an Energy Prospectus Group membership and a free month's copy of his newsletter if they email him!

-Originally aired on 09/26/2015- Episode 34 of "In The Oil Patch" This week on "In The Oil Patch": host Kym Bolado and her co-hosts Alvin Bailey and Roy Holley have two very special guests to share some important updates with us. Justine Hall is the Director of External Affairs for the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable, better known as "STEER". Justine, like Haley Curry from our past episode, is really excited to give us more details about their upcoming Eagle Ford Excellence Awards. She explains that as long as the link is live on their website, you can still nominate deserving companies for this prestigious industry award. Being that it's their third annual celebration doesn't take away from the fact that companies are vying to take home an award in one of the four main categories: Community & Social Investment, Environmental Stewardship, Safety Performance, and the STEER Impact Award. As we stated earlier, nominations are still live so go to STEER's Eagle Ford Excellence Awards page to get your nomination in today! From STEER's website: "The South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable (STEER), based in San Antonio, Texas, serves as the bridge connecting the oil and natural gas industry to South Texas communities. STEER will work to ensure that all stakeholders throughout the Eagle Ford Shale region are able to effectively maximize opportunities in a responsible and collaborative way. "STEER was established by 11 of the largest operators in the Eagle Ford Shale region including: Anadarko, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, ConocoPhillips, EOG Resources, Lewis Energy Group, Marathon Oil, Murphy Oil, Pioneer Natural Resources, Shell, Statoil and Talisman Energy. "These operators saw a need in South Texas to maintain a cohesive and collaborative stakeholder relations effort throughout the Eagle Ford Shale and developed STEER to lead that initiative. "STEER facilitates and coordinates communication, education and public advocacy surrounding the production of energy resources in South Texas. As an organization, STEER aims to ensure development of the Eagle Ford’s energy resources is accomplished in a manner that is mutually beneficial to the industry and communities throughout South Texas." Learn more about STEER: http://steer.com Next up, we have David Blackmon, former writer for Forbes back in the studio! David does what he does best - sheds light on interesting and complicated topics in an easy-to-understand manner. The EPA, the Export Ban and the Obama Administration are just a few topics that David covers in this podcast and you don't want to miss this episode!
