Māori health leaders are calling on the government to scrap the Treaty Principles Bill, saying equitable healthcare is "a fundamental right". The Royal Australasian College of Physicians' (RACP) Māori Health Committee chair Dr Matt Wheeler said the principles outlined in the bill diminished "the constitutional status of the Treaty / Te Tiriti". "This bill undermines the state's responsibility to collaborate with Māori, rendering the Treaty and its obligations meaningless," he said. A Clare Oireachtas Health Committee member insists the mentorship programme for dentists needs to be simplified amid widespread staff shortages in the sector. Senator Martin Conway has outlined a case in which a Clare-based qualified dentist from Ukraine is unable to enter into a mentorship with a local dental practitioner due to what he's described as a "frustrating" engagement process with the Dental Council of Ireland. There are currently just 14 dentists employed under the Dental Treatment Services Scheme in Clare, this number having dropped by over 25% from 19 since the start of the year. Ennistymon-based Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway says the process of becoming registered as a dentist needs to become less stringent in light of the sector's recruitment crisis.

Visit Syracuse plays a critical role in the county's economic development strategy through its focus to grow the area's business of leisure tourism, meetings & conventions, sporting & special events, and film/television production. Through his work, Danny has strengthened the organization's ties with elected officials and community leaders to ensure resource development, overall strategic direction, and quality programming to the region. While under his leadership, the organization has successfully restructured to handle the effects of COVID-19 on the hospitality and tourism industry, moved into a new downtown office space, and brought in and expanded the Visit Syracuse Film Office. Liedka also has seen convention sales increase by nearly 85% during his tenure. During Danny's tenure, the Visit Syracuse organization has seen several major conventions return to the area and has undergone several marketing initiatives to better promote the region and partners, including a completely redesigned website, an increase in video production promotion, and a newly designed Visitors Guide. Danny has several years of experience in a variety of tourism and hospitality roles, including Senior Sales Executive at Marriott International and Sales Manager at the Double Tree Hotel Syracuse. He holds several awards recognizing him for sports, sales, and marketing efforts. Before joining Visit Syracuse, Danny was a former Onondaga County Legislator District 7 (2012-2017), having served as Chairman of the Health Committee, Budget Task Force, and Vehicle Use Review Board. In addition, he was the former mayor of the Village of East Syracuse (2007 – 2013). Danny has written award-winning legislation that addressed the quality of life in his Village. Danny is on the East Syracuse-Minoa School District Wall of Distinction for his contribution and achievements in the community. The Visit Syracuse president was also an on-air television commentator at Time Warner Cable Sports Channel, Big East Network, YES Network, and ESPNU, as well as a game radio host for Syracuse University Basketball on Clear Channel Radio. Danny is a recipient of the ACE Award, which is the cable television equivalent of an Emmy for excellence in sports broadcasting. A Clare member of the Oireachtas Health Committee insists the health service can't be top-heavy with management and administrators. It follows the announcement by HSE CEO, Bernard Gloster that the recruitment of such staff will be temporarily halted, in a bid to combat the service's €150 million budget overspend in January & February. In 2022, the HSE employed 2,254 people at University Hospital Limerick, with 10% of all management & admin staff at the Dooradoyle facility moving on from their positions over the year. Ennistymon based Fine Gael Senator, Martin Conway says the HSE cannot function efficiently as a top heavy organisation.

He is a veteran reporter on immigration, gangs, drug trafficking, the border. He is formerly a reporter with the L.A. Times, where he worked for 10 years. Before that, he made a living as a freelance writer residing in Mexico for a decade (1994-2004). His latest book, released in November, 2021, is The Least of Us: True Tales of America and Hope in the Time of Fentanyl and Meth. (The book is released in paperback in November, 2022.) In The Least of Us, Quinones chronicles the emergence of a drug-trafficking world producing massive supplies of synthetic drugs (fentanyl and meth) cheaper and deadlier than ever, marketing to the population of addicts created by the nation's opioid epidemic, as the backdrop to tales of Americans' quiet attempts to recover community through simple acts of helping the vulnerable. With The Least of Us, Quinones broke the story of how the methamphetamine now produced in Mexico has covered the U.S. and is creating widespread and rapid-onset symptoms of schizophrenia, becoming in the process a major driver in the country's the homeless problem. In January 2022, The Least of Us was nominated for a National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) award for Best Nonfiction Book of 2021. The Least of Us follows his landmark Dreamland: The True Tale of America's Opiate Epidemic (Bloomsbury, 2015), which ignited awareness of the epidemic that has cost the United States hundreds of thousands of lives and become deadliest drug scourge in the nation's history. Dreamland won a National Book Critics Circle award for the Best Nonfiction Book of 2015. It was also selected as one of the Best Books of 2015 by Amazon.com, the Daily Beast, Buzzfeed, Seattle Times, Boston Globe, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Entertainment Weekly, Audible, and in the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg Business by Nobel economics laureate, Prof. Angus Deaton, of Princeton University. A Young Adult version of Dreamland – for 7 th through 12 th graders -- was released in July of 2019. His first two books grew from his 10 years living and working as a freelance writer in Mexico (1994-2004). True Tales From Another Mexico: The Lynch Mob, the Popsicle Kings, Chalino and the Bronx was released in 2001. It is a cult classic of a book from Mexico's vital margins – stories of drag queens and Oaxacan Indian basketball players, popsicle makers and telenovela stars, migrants, farm workers, a narcosaint, a slain drug balladeer, a slum boss, and a doomed tough guy. In 2007, he came out with Antonio's Gun and Delfino's Dream: True Tales of Mexican Migration. In it, Quinones narrates the saga of the Henry Ford of Velvet Painting, and of how an opera scene emerged in Tijuana, and how a Zacatecan taco empire formed in Chicago. He tells the tale of the Tomato King, of a high-school soccer season in Kansas, and of Mexican corruption in a small L.A. County town. Threading through the book are three tales of Delfino Juarez, a modern Mexican Huck Finn. Quinones ends the collection in a chapter called "Leaving Mexico" with his harrowing tangle with the Narco-Mennonites of Chihuahua. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School and received his B.A. degree in history and sociology from Knoxville College, Knoxville, Tennessee, and a Masters of Public Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery. He also received 5 honorary degrees including The Honorary Doctorate of Laws from Alabama A & M University in 2004.Elected as the 1st African-American Mayor of the City of Tuskegee in 1972, Mayor Ford served six consecutive terms from 1972 – 1996 and was again elected to that office in September, 2004 and 2012. Bobby Watts is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, which supports the 300 federally funded Health Care for the Homeless programs and 100 Medical Respite providers with training, technical assistance, sharing of best practices, research, publications, and an active policy and advocacy program working to eliminate homelessness. Bobby has 30 years of experience in administration, direct service, and implementation of homeless health services, beginning as a live-in counselor at the New York City Rescue Mission. He spent most of his career prior to joining the Council at Care for the Homeless, which operates clinics, and shelters, and conducts policy analysis and advocacy in New York City, beginning as an intern, and serving as the executive director from 2005-2017. Under his tenure, the Federally Qualified Health Center agency tripled in size, adding major programs and initiatives –including constructing and operating a shelter for 200 mentally ill and medically frail women –and becoming licensed as a Diagnostic and Treatment Center in New York State. He has served on numerous boards, government-appointed task forces, and workgroups including serving as the finance officer for the NYC HIV Health and Human Services Planning Council, on the NYS DOH Medicaid Redesign Team's Affordable Housing Workgroup and Value-Based Payment Workgroup on CBOs and Social Determinants of Health, and as an inaugural member of the NYS Interagency Council on Homelessness, where he co-chaired its Health Committee.
