What is the significance of identifying synergies in Mergers & Acquisitions? In this episode, Jim is joined by Sharon McGuire for an insightful discussion on corporate acquisitions. Drawing from their combined experience, they explore how successful mergers require a strategic and structured approach, treating them as integral processes rather than isolated events. The conversation delves into the meticulous aspects of strategy development, target identification, and diligent execution needed to foster growth and yield substantial returns. Their discussion, enriched by McGuire's background in major industry mergers at a leading oil company, emphasizes how CEOs must proactively seek acquisition opportunities that align with corporate goals while avoiding hasty decisions that could jeopardize leadership and company future. Key Takeaways: →Acquisition is a strategic approach to augment growth rate and yield high returns. → CEOs need to have a clear vision and strategic direction for their acquisitions. → About 80% of acquisitions fail to deliver the intended results due to unrealistic financial projections. → Identifying synergies that justify the merger is crucial for long-term value creation. → Bidding strategy in mergers involves initially bidding high to clear the room and negotiating a lower price later. More from Sharon McGuire Prior to joining The CEO Project as a Member Specialist, Sharon worked for a decade for Chevron Corporation. She held positions in lubricant sales, research, alternate energy, and shareholder services. Sharon interfaces with our members at The CEO Project to support their member experience. This podcast is a picture of what a hero looks like. Steven Donziger is a US-based environmental lawyer. He was part of a legal team that earned a major environmental judgment against Chevron Corporation on behalf of Indigenous and local communities in Ecuador. Chevron responded with a civil racketeering lawsuit and a massive defamation media campaign targeting Steven and his clients. In 2019, Chevron obtained a judicial order requiring Steven to give Chevron access to his computers and online accounts, which contained decades of attorney-client communications. When Steven refused, Chevron engineered the filing of criminal contempt of court charges. When the public prosecutor refused to prosecute the case, the unprecedented appointment of a private prosecutor drawn from a law firm Chevron has worked with in the past. Steven was required to wear an ankle bracelet and confine himself to his two-bedroom apartment for nearly three years of pre-trial litigation. He was denied a jury but sentenced to the maximum sentence possible for a non-jury offense, which he served in part in a federal penitentiary and in part at home. The US court continues to hold his passport, preventing him from traveling for work or other advocacy. | Steven Donzinger | Website: https://www.freedonziger.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stevendonziger/ X: https://x.com/SDonziger | Aubrey Marcus | Website | http://bit.ly/2GesYqi Instagram | http://bit.ly/2BlfCEO Facebook | http://bit.ly/2F4nBZk Twitter | http://bit.ly/2BlGBAdAd Check out "Own your Day, Own Your Life" by Aubrey Marcus | http://bit.ly/2vRz4so Subscribe to the Aubrey Marcus newsletter: https://www.aubreymarcus.com/pages/email To partner with the Aubrey Marcus Podcast Subscribe to the Aubrey Marcus podcast: iTunes | https://apple.co/2lMZRCn Spotify | https://spoti.fi/2EaELZO Stitcher | http://bit.ly/2G8ccJt IHeartRadio | https://ihr.fm/3CiV4x3 Google Podcasts | https://bit.ly/3nzCJEh Android | https://bit.ly/2OQeBQg

"How do we move towards a greater societal understanding of what's required to achieve the goals of decarbonization? Building a sustainable society requires everybody, all the citizens, to do a whole bunch of different things, many of which are minor." Murray W. Hitzman, the Director of iCRAG, highlights the energy transition and how to communicate it with the public. iCRAG is the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre in Applied Geosciences hosted by University College Dublin. In this episode, we explore Ireland's energy and sustainability challenges. With Ireland's advantageous position for harnessing wind and solar power, as well as the untapped potential of geothermal energy, Murray provides a portrait of a country that's not only capable of making significant strides in sustainability but is also a microcosm for global change. Murray shares his journey as an economic geologist and how it has shaped his vision for iCRAG's three grand challenges: Earth system change, Earth resources, and Earth science in society. Listeners will discover the connections between energy transition, critical raw materials, and societal engagement necessary to build a sustainable future. Murray explains why clear communication between scientists and citizens is the key to sustainability. We also explore the critical roles of metals like zinc, copper, and cobalt in green technology. This conversation is a powerful reminder that sustainability is a multifaceted issue that requires collaboration, innovation, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. As Murray puts it, discovery is at the heart of his journey – continuing to uncover how we can better interact with our planet.

In that light is this article. It's titled The biggest carbon losers. It's by Toby Heaps at Corporate Knights on corporateknights.com. Here are some quotes from the article. “This year, Corporate Knights set out to identify global companies that have decarbonized faster than their peers while simultaneously increasing revenue. Our researchers evaluated the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of more than 6,500 publicly traded companies. We eventually whittled the list down to 20 corporations from eight sectors that cut the most carbon over the last decade… Many are far from sustainability leaders. They're among the world's largest oil majors, coal burners and mining corporations. About two-thirds of the GHG reductions achieved by these companies were genuine from the planet's perspective… Italian electricity and gas distributor Enel topped the Carbon Reduction 20 ranking… According to calculations by Corporate Knights, these 20 companies funnelled just 35% of new investments in 2021 toward the sustainable, low-carbon economy, as defined by the Corporate Knights Sustainable Economy Taxonomy… 12 of the 20 funnelled more cash to shareholders and top executives than to growing their low-carbon sustainable business offerings… Note… we didn't include Scope 3.” End quotes. Incidentally, the list and details of the 20 companies are found at the bottom of the article. ------------------------------------------------------------- Amid Fixed Income Calamity, Green Bonds Look Interesting Now let's talk green bonds with this article titled Amid Fixed Income Calamity, Green Bonds Look Interesting. (The fund) tracks the S&P Green Bond U.S. Dollar Select Index, is down year-to-date, but that negative performance could belie opportunity with green bonds. Additionally, data confirm some investors remain enthusiastic about this still young corner of the global bond market… ‘Companies and governments around the world raised more than $54 billion in green bonds last month, compared with more than $35 billion raised in August, data compiled by Bloomberg show. That's despite overall bond issuance in the U.S. and Europe dropping significantly…' reports David Caleb Mutua for Bloomberg.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 5 green companies to invest in and why they will multiply your investment by 20x And, lastly, we have this article titled 5 green companies to invest in and why they will multiply your investment by 20x. We had a fantastic session today with Neil Mehta, Managing Director and Head of North American Natural Resources Research at Goldman Sachs. Neil oversees research coverage for oil and gas, utilities, midstream, metals and mining and clean technology and also leads coverage for large cap energy equities. Neil's coverage and knowledge breadth allowed for a fascinating range of topics. Our conversational tour of today's energy world included background on Goldman's energy research team, how Neil would rank the outlook for the various energy sectors, the current types of investors interested in the energy sector and how it has changed this year, the competition for talent across all industries and why it's particularly important in energy, return of capital and the importance for companies to differentiate themselves, the recently passed IRA, cost of capital and cost of supply, Neil's longer range oil demand outlook, with all of it infused by comments on affordability, reliability, and energy security. We even touched on the all-important "terminal value" issue for energy stocks. Wow... thank you again Neil! To start the show, Mike Bradley reviewed equity and commodity performance from the past week and flagged the upcoming Fed meeting (Wednesday, Sept. 21) and expected basis point rate hike. He then shared four key investor topics for the near and immediate term. Colin Fenton picked up the inflation topic and provided a backdrop of a few non-energy commodity prices, gasoline prices, and US natural gas to illustrate the full extent of what the Fed and we could be facing. Thanks to you all. It was great fun to visit with Neil and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Volatility in stock markets was back to its post-pandemic peak last week, with the mighty S&P 500, the world's largest stockmarket index by value, falling by 2.8% on Tuesday, only to rise by 2.5% on Thursday, before selling off 3.6% on Friday. So much of the value of the S&P 500 is now concentrated in a few technology behemoths that their fate determines its fate. Thursday's rebound had much to do with unexpectedly strong results from Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) amongst others, and Friday's sell-off appeared to have been triggered by disappointing results from Alphabet and Amazon, combined perhaps with the negative outlook expressed by Apple's management. However, these problems were mainly related to the pandemic's distortion of supply and demand. Alphabet reported a deterioration in demand from customers in Europe, but this should be seen in the context of a quarter in which Alphabet's revenues still grew at a 20% rate.Stocks featured:Amazon.com, Apple, Alphabet, Chevron Corporation, Exxon Mobil Corp, Meta Plaforms, Robinhood Markets and TwitterTo find out more about the investment management services offered by Walker Crips, please visit our website:https://www.walkercrips.co.uk/This podcast is intended to be Walker Crips Investment Management's own commentary on markets. On #TheUpdate this Monday, the battle for the strategic port city of Mariupol is continuing to rage on. Ukraine has rejected a Russian offer to evacuate its troops from the besieged city and the Russian bombardment continues. The U.N says that more than 3.38 million people have filed Ukraine. Meanwhile, European Union countries are accusing Russia of committing war crimes in Ukraine, but the 27-nation bloc appears unlikely to impose new sanctions on Moscow despite a clamor across Europe for those responsible to be held to account.
Tuesday, February 22, 2022 Hoover Institution, Stanford University The Hoover Institution hosts Spies, Lies, and Algorithms: A Conversation with Amy Zegart and Condoleezza Rice on Tuesday, February 22 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. PT. Please join us for a conversation with Amy Zegart as part of her tour with her new book Spies, Lies, and Algorithms: The History and Future of American Intelligence. The conversation will be moderated by Director Condoleezza Rice with an introduction by Michael McFaul. “Today we face a critical juncture for American spy agencies, as big as 9/11 — only most people don't know it,” says Amy B. Zegart, one of the country's leading experts on intelligence and a professor at Stanford University. “New dangers come from tech, not terrorists. Emerging technologies like AI and social media are weakening the strong and empowering the weak, fundamentally changing dynamics of international conflict. To be blunt: The U.S. is losing its intelligence advantage.” To help us better understand these looming threats, Zegart has written Spies, Lies, and Algorithms: The History and Future of American Intelligence (Princeton University Press; February 1, 2022). It's the first comprehensive book on the past, present, and future of American intelligence—and outlines what's urgently needed to protect our nation today. The book draws on over thirty years of research (including new research just for this book) and hundreds of interviews with current and former intelligence officials. Weak intelligence makes us more vulnerable to attacks on our power grids, water supply, elections, corporate network servers, and nuclear weapons. Helping the American public better understand these evolving threats is crucial. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS Amy Zegart is the Morris Arnold and Nona Jean Cox Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution and Professor of Political Science (by courtesy) at Stanford University. She is also a Senior Fellow at Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, Chair of Stanford's Artificial Intelligence and International Security Steering Committee, and a contributing writer at The Atlantic. She specializes in U.S. intelligence, emerging technologies and national security, grand strategy, and global political risk management. The author of five books, Zegart's award-winning research includes the leading academic study of intelligence failures before 9/11 — Spying Blind: The CIA, the FBI, and the Origins of 9/11 (Princeton 2007). Her forthcoming book, Spies, Lies, and Algorithms (Princeton 2022) examines technological challenges to American intelligence. Zegart's research has been published in The Atlantic, Foreign Affairs, the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, and elsewhere. She has served on the NSC staff, advised senior officials about intelligence and foreign policy, and most recently served as a commissioner on the 2020 CSIS Technology and Intelligence Task Force. She received an A.B. in East Asian studies magna cum laude from Harvard University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University. Condoleezza Rice is the Tad and Dianne Taube Director of the Hoover Institution and its Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy. Rice currently serves on the board of online-storage technology company Dropbox, energy software company C3, and Makena Capital, a private endowment firm; and is a member of the boards of the George W. Bush Institute, the Commonwealth Club, the Aspen Institute, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Previously, Rice served on various additional boards, including those of KiOR Inc., the Chevron Corporation, the Charles Schwab Corporation, the Transamerica Corporation, the Hewlett-Packard Company, the University of Notre Dame, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors. From 2005 to 2009, Rice served as the sixty-sixth secretary of state of the United States, the second woman and first African American woman to hold the post. Rice also served as assistant to the president for National Security Affairs for President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, the first woman to hold this position. Michael A. At the top of the show, Michelle and John talk with Chris Garaffa, editor of TechForThePeople.org. The IRS will soon implement a program whereby taxpayers will have to use facial recognition software to access their taxes. They are using a third-party company, ID.me, plagued with well-documented problems. Chris warns that such software is an invitation for hackers. Anyone in the database is at risk of identity theft. More on the cyberwar front: weapons like IPegasus software created in Israel are used by governments to attack states and individuals through their phones. You don't even have to click the link, warns Chris.Next, Steven Donziger, lawyer, writer, former journalist and environmental advocate currently known for leading an unrelenting 24 years legal battle against Chevron Corporation related to its contamination of the Ecuadorian rainforest, joins to talk about Exxon. Steven describes an obscure Rule 202 that allows corporations to go on a fishing expedition for incriminating evidence. They are able to question individuals under oath and demand access to documents even before any legal action is filed against them. Exxon wants to use the provision to force California officials to travel to Texas to be questioned by the firm's lawyers about what the company describes as “lawfare” – the misuse of the legal system for political ends.Michelle and John caught up on all the latest developments with RT correspondent Peter Oliver. Talks in Geneva closed with nothing agreed upon. The US decision to send Stinger missiles to Ukraine seems to be a provocative one. After all, Stingers turned around the Afghan war against the Soviets. Russia suggested military deployment to Venezuela and Cuba remain an option. During the second hour, John Feffer, director of Foreign Policy in Focus at the Institute for Policy Studies, joins us. John's latest book, "Songlands," the third and final novel in the Splinterland Trilogy, is out now. John and Michelle discuss the latest lethal airstrikes in Yemen that knocked out the internet. According to Save the Children, this is a war that had gone somewhat quiet for a while, but has really heated back up again over the past week, with both the Houthis and the Saudi and US backed forces launching strikes. Not surprising, says Feffer, that neither the Washington Post or the New York Times' mentioned the extent of the US role in this war.Lee Camp is a comedian, activist, journalist, host of the show “Redacted Tonight” on RT America, and author of the recent book, “Bullet Points & Punch Lines.” Lee joins for the last segment to talk about the insane amount the US spends on police. Spending on police is greater in the US than the amount any other nation spends on their entire military. The only military budgets that are greater than what the US spends on police are China and the US. John and Michelle ask Lee about the recent government papers that deem RT and Sputnik News as networks of propaganda. John mentions the history of Voice of America, which was hatched by the CIA.The Misfits sign off, till next week…..

Branko Marcetic discusses the stunning lack of mainstream media coverage of Julian Assange's case. Besides being the right thing to do, since Assange has heroically helped expose heinous crimes by many of the world's governments, journalists also have a selfish reason to care about Assange's plight: what he does at WikiLeaks is not categorically different from what any of them does when covering stories that originated from leaked documents. And yet nearly everyone in the press seems content to let Assange rot in solitary confinement. Discussed on the show: "The Julian Assange Media Blackout Must End" (Jacobin) "7/1/21 Bjartmar Alexandersson on the Lies of America's Star Witness Against Julian Assange" (The Libertarian Institute) Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media "Vault7" (WikiLeaks) "Baghdad War Diary" (WikiLeaks) "Collateral Murder" (WikiLeaks) "State Department Cables" (WikiLeaks) "The Kafkaesque Nightmare of Attorney Steven Donziger, a Literal Prisoner of the Chevron Corporation" (Jacobin) Branko Marcetic is a writer for Jacobin Magazine, a fellow at In These Times, and host of the 1/200 podcast. Dambisa Moyo is an economist and best-selling author who focuses on macroeconomics and global affairs. She currently serves on the boards of Chevron Corporation and the 3M Company. Previously, she was a board member of Barclays, Barrick Gold, and Seagate Technology, and worked at Goldman Sachs and at the World Bank. Her new book, How Boards Work: And How They Can Work Better in a Chaotic World, builds on her experience as a board member of global companies. She argues that today's boards have three main tasks: shaping the company strategy, selecting leaders (in particular the CEO), and safeguarding the company's culture, ethics, and values. In a conversation with Martin Reeves, Chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute, she discusses insights from her new book, the boards' role in strategy, and how boards can and should support C-suite leaders while providing oversight for the company. *** About the BCG Henderson Institute The BCG Henderson Institute is the Boston Consulting Group's think tank, dedicated to exploring and developing valuable new insights from business, technology, economics, and science by embracing the powerful technology of ideas. The Institute engages leaders in provocative discussion and experimentation to expand the boundaries of business theory and practice and to translate innovative ideas from within and beyond business. The Do One Better! Podcast – Philanthropy, Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship
San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors ex-head of philanthropy and community relations, Joanne Pasternack, joins Alberto Lidji to discuss the power of athletes and sports to improve the world. The conversation is wide-raging, from Joanne’s initial foray into figure skating and her introduction to the Special Olympics when she was just 14 years old, to her work leading the philanthropy and community relations and outreach at the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors – two of America’s best known professional football (National Football League – NFL) and basketball (National Basketball Association – NBA) teams. We discuss philanthropic engagement at the individual level, the team level and the league level and explore specific case studies, such as an instance when the San Francisco 49ers worked closely with the New Orleans Saints following a devastating natural disaster in Louisiana. We hear of individual players who demonstrate high degrees of generosity. Joanne mentioned Kevin Durant – a world-class basketball player – who donated $10m to create an after school education program in his hometown outside Washington DC. She also sheds light on a partnership she worked on between the San Francisco 49ers and the Chevron Corporation to build out a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) leadership institute at a local school near the 49ers’ stadium. There is a need to ensure the right alignment between personal philanthropic preferences and engagement in the most appropriate thematic areas. Fleshing out what is important to someone and exploring how they can leverage things to improve the world in that specific area is an important task, which gets explored during this episode as well. Professional athletes are unique in many respects. Many achieve great notoriety and wealth at a very young age. They tend to have a short shelf life at top-level sports and, then, need to adapt to their post-career life accordingly. This can be very challenging – a topic Joanne sheds light on within the context of professional basketball and American football. Joanne’s key takeaway: she focuses on the power of listening to what others have to say. ‘Listen’ … just listen. She let’s us know that her personal mantra is: find a way to say ‘Yes’. It’s easy to come up with excuses of why you can’t do something. So, where possible, find a way to say Yes. And, if you have to say ‘No’, don’t just say no. Instead, say ‘No but’… here’s another resource for you or, No, but here’s a way that we can help. Visit Lidji.org to view guest bios, episode notes and useful links. David Rockefeller has passed away on 20 march 2017. Rockefeller has lived to be 101 years old and has survived 7 heart transplants! These are his family's darkest secrets! This is the latest anonymous message from 2017. You must watch this! Important events are going to happen this year. Will 2017 be the year of the change? Everybody has to see this to find out! Full documentary about how the Rockefeller family has become one of the most wealthy and most powerful families on earth. ________________________________________ 1. Early life of John D. Rockefeller This video shows the chronological time-line of the Rockefeller family, starting with how William Avery 'Devil Bill' Rockefeller Sr. (1810-1906) schooled his son John D. Rockefeller (1839-1937) to be a cunning businessman. 'Devil Bill' Rockefeller's son John D. Rockefeller became successful in the commodities trade at a very young age 2. The creation of the biggest oil monopoly in the world. John D. Rockefeller then decided to seek his fortune elsewhere and moved to Cleveland Ohio, where the oil business began to boom. There he established an oil refinery and gained prosperity through cunning plots, ruthlessness, conspiracy, shady deals and other criminal deeds. John D's. "Standard Oil" company would grow and expand to become the biggest oil monopoly in the world. The Standard Oil monopoly got so big and powerful, that in 1911, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that the oil company violated the US Antitrust Law and that it had to be split up. This created various new successful Rockefeller oil companies, such as Exxon-Mobil (Esso), Chevron Corporation, Texaco and Gulf Oil. Having a positive effect on the stock market, the 1911 Supreme Court decision in effect made the Rockefeller family even more rich and powerful. The Rockefellers have always had intimate business and family relations with other powerful family dynasties, such as the Morgan banking family, members of the steel magnates of the Carnegie family, the DuPont family and the Rothschild banking families from Europe. The Rockefellers were connected to the Union Pacific Railroad company of E.H. Harriman. They were involved in the sponsorship of the Kuhn & Loeb bank in the United Kingdom and they had numerous business deals with Hitler's Nazi regime in Germany. There were the instrumental force behind the German chemical company I.G. Farben, which built and controlled the concentration camp Auschwitz, situated around the I.G. Farben chemical factory. Rockefeller's Standard Oil patented fuel even powered the entire Nazi air force 'the Luftwaffe'. 3. David Rockefeller in the 20th and 21st century. During the 20th century David Rockefeller and other descendants of John D. Rockefeller maintained their wealth through banking, oil and expanded their power through politics and think-tanks or other non government organisations (NGOs). David Rockefeller, the oldest member of the Rockefeller family, is one of the founding members of the secretive Bilderberg Group, the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations. 4. The full dominance of the Rockefeller empire The power of the Rockefeller family is not limited to the oil industry, they control large portions of the banking industry, the central banking system in the US through the Federal Reserve and overseas the European Central Bank. Through Rockefeller-controlled companies, organisations, think-tanks and other NGO's the family created The United Nations, Bilderberg Group, Trilateral Commission, Council on Foreign Relations, Planned Parenthood, the Population Council, the Council of the Americas and the Rockefeller Foundation. Among other Rockefeller companies are: Monsanto, United Airlines, American Airlines, American Railroads, AT&T, Honeywell, Quaker Oats, and AXA Equitable Life Insurance. The estimated combined Rockefeller fortune is so big that it can be expressed in percentages of the entire US economy. The ultimate plan of these international oligarchs is to enslave humanity under a tyrannical one world government, ruled and controlled by them.
Jo Miller hosts SWE new podcast series, Diverse. Jo interviews S. Shariq Yosufzai Vice President, Global Diversity, Ombuds and University Partnerships, Chevron Corporation about their recent Catalyst Award win and how the company has developed a strategy and rationale for diversity as talent and revenue driver.
In 2011, an Ecuadoran court found the Chevron Corporation liable for environmental damage caused by oil drilling in the 1970s-80s. Chevron was ordered to pay $19 billion to the plaintiffs who brought the suit, a collection of small farmers and indigenous peoples. Although it is tempting to fit this into a simple narrative-either "victory for oppressed people against an evil corporation" or "responsible corporation preyed upon by voracious plaintiffs attorneys"--the truth just isn't that simple. And the $19 billion verdict was far from the end of this story. Modern Law Library moderator Lee Rawles speaks with Paul M.
