Welcome the the flagship episode of The Black Lodge, my collaboration with Brandon Legion of Horror Wolf 666. Inspired by the passing of David Lynch, one of the greatest American filmmakers of our generation, we are going to dive deep into the Twin Peaks series.  In 1990, there was nothing quite like Twin Peaks, it was groundbreaking and a harbinger of an explosion in thought-provoking television that would happen two decades later.  We cover the pilot episode this week, exploring the darkness beneath the plaid small town of Twin Peaks, the fictitious town nestled in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Stay tuned for future monthly episodes on Everything Went Black and Horror Wolf 666. Intro:   “Twin Peaks Theme” – Andrew Badalamenti Outro:  “Falling” –Julee Cruise

or over two decades Mike Hill has been a road warrior traversing the challenging terrain of extreme music, renegade journalism and end times documentarianism. Hill is known for fronting the metal band Tombs, who have released records on Metal Blade and Relapse Records, with 2011's Path of Totality getting the tap for Decibel Magazine's Record of the Year. The band has toured extensively and have performed at notable festivals such as Roadburn, Maryland Death Fest, Roskilde Festival, Ieper Fest and most recently Ozzfest Meets Knotfest. His written work has been published in Noisey, Revolver, Bandcamp Daily and Decibel. Hill is also a DJ at Gimme Radio, a streaming metal channel curated by notable artists in the genre, including Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, Lamb of God's Randy Blythe and Dillinger Escape Plan's Ben Weinman. The Everything Went Black Podcast is a reflection of Mike Hill’s own psyche addressing the creative, intellectual and physical aspects of the human experience. For those out there that choose to live apart from flock, who embrace individuality, Everything Went Black should be a regular part of your world. The complexity of modern man is oft time under-served and under-estimated. As Miyamoto Musashi wrote “to know the way broadly, is to see it in all things”. Why not embrace all aspects of life and celebrate the Savage Life of a self-realized individual?

It’s another solo episode. My new show Metal Matters is about to drop on iTunes, Stitcher and wherever you listen to podcasts. I talk about the new show and how it will impact Everything Went Black and Necromaniacs. Metal Matters is part of the Gimme Radio music platform and will cover much of the same stuff I cover on Everything Went Black, so I’m going to have to evolve, grow and expand. Let me know your thoughts, I’m all ears!     Intro: “Oblivion” – Atriarch Outro: “Come to Daddy” – Aphex Twin

Episode 015: Greg Ginn, Chuck Dukowski, Dez Cadena, Robo, Chavo Pederast, Johnny "Bob" Goldstein "Everything Went Black" YOU DON’T KNOW MOJACK is a podcast dedicated to exploring the entire SST catalogue, in order, from start to finish. During the podcast we will discuss all the releases that are part of our core DNA, as well as many lesser-known releases that deserve a second chance, or releases that we are discovering for the very first time (we actually don’t know Mojack!). First and foremost we are fans, and acknowledge that we are not perfect and don’t know everything – sometimes the discussion is more about a time, place, feeling, personal experience or random tangents, and less about the facts (but we will try to get to the facts too). A while back I had Dave and Hank on to promote the Kickstarter Campaign for the reissue of the first three Craw records.  Over the past several months there have been a series of changes to the gameplan, some reunion show announcements and other developments that we will discuss on this episode. For those of you unfamiliar with Craw, I urge you to check this out.  If you are a regular Everything Went Black listener, most likely you are into good music and will appreciate what they brought to the table.  Craw has mostly been a "musician's band" meaning that they never quite caught on with the casual music fan. Their fanbase mainly consisted of dudes in other bands that played with them and experienced the raw power of their live performance.Their first three albums "Craw", "Lost Nation Road" and "Map, Monitor, Surge" are out-of-print and pretty much impossible to find, so this reissue project that Hank has undertaken is truly something special.  Their final album "Bodies for Strontium 90" was released by Hydrahead Records and is still available. This episode is brought to you by SAVAGE GOLD COFFEE #staygold

I consider Craw to be on the short list of killer bands that were mostly active during the 90's. Back then, there was a gray between metal, punk and indie rock where some of my favorite bands existed; think Dazzling Killmen, Jesus Lizard, Tar and Unsane but different. They were truly on their own frequency.Dave McClelland, guitarist and one of the founding members joins me and journalist Hank Shteamer in the studio for a really cool hang out. Dave is spearheading a mission to collect Craw's early, more obscure recordings and release them in a deluxe, remastered LP boxed set.  If your a Craw fan, or even just a fan of intense, creative music, please check out his Kickstarter campaign.https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1861496135/6-lp-craw-box-setreissue-of-3-lost-post-hardcore-c

I first became aware of Matt Staggs through his work with Disinfo. I dug his writing and for a time, he was the host of the Disinfo Podcast which was one of my inspirations for starting Everything Went Black.  Matt now has a new podcast called Staggnation, so please check it out.Matt graciously gave up some time out of his Saturday afternoon to chat about freelancing, Jiu Jitsu and the desire to be a self-actualized person.
