On the eve of Time Magazine naming its ‘Person of the Year' for 2024, we offer absolutely no surprises by naming Tadej Pogačar our man of the year just past.  ‘Pog' has been briefing the media on what to expect from him in 2025 - and Fran Reyes has been on the ground in Spain taking notes. In this episode, Fran tells Daniel Friebe and Richard Abraham what he's heard from the Slovenian and some of those who either masterminded or assisted his all-conquering season.  Before all of that, we also discuss the two main news headlines of the week: Patrick Lefevere leaving his CEO position at Soudal-Quick Step and Tom Pidcock signing for Q36.5.  The Cycling Podcast presented by Shokz The Cycling Podcast is proudly brought to you by Shokz, pioneers of bone-conduction headphones. In this week's episode of The Cycling Podcast, Daniel Friebe is on Fran Reyes's home turf - Granada in southern Spain - and that pair is joined by Richard Abraham for another week of analysis and reflection on, yes, yet another Tadej Pogačar masterpiece, this time at the Tour of Lombardy. The build-up to the final Monument of the season had been enlivened or overshadowed - depending on your viewpoint - by Tom Pidcock's shock exclusion from the INEOS line-up. We examine the likely consequences of that - and the possible reasons. It's then time for another attempt to contextualise arguably the finest cycling season of all time by a male rider, and certainly the most extraordinary since Eddy Merckx's ‘cannibalistic' reign. October 25 | The Cycling Podcast this week comes from the Tour of Guangxi in China, the last World Tour race of the 2017 season. Fran Reyes, who listeners will remember from our Vuelta a España coverage, was there for all six stages and brings us a report from a race that was difficult to follow from afar, but which seems to have been a hit with the riders. We hear from Mikel Landa, in his last race for Team Sky, and his teammate Beñat Intxausti, making a rare appearance after two years of struggling with illness. There are also interviews with the overall winner, Tim Wellens of Lotto-Soudal, and with Fernando Gaviria, the Quick-Step sprinter who won four stages. The Cycling Podcast is supported by Rapha and Science in Sport.
