Civilians are bearing the brunt of the suffering as aid agencies have had their access blocked in many areas. Leila Molana Allen has seen how Sudanese volunteers are bringing food and medicine to communities now full of hungry, displaced and often traumatised people.The countryside of Calabria, in southern Italy, may look like a rural idyll. But much of its fertile agricultural land has been infiltrated by the local mafia network known as the Ndrangheta. Francisco Garcia met and talked to farmers trying to resist the organised crime groups which want to muscle in.There's a record number of abandoned homes or 'akiyas' in Japan. Over 9 million houses are standing empty, as the population ages and shrinks, and younger people move to the cities. Particularly in rural areas, many heirs aren't prepared to take on the costs of emptying, demolishing or rebuilding old family homes. Shaimaa Khalil stepped into a couple of period properties now being restored by their new owners.The city of Oakland, in northern California, once had a reputation for its political militancy and cultural inventiveness. These days it's known for bitter disputes over gentrification, homelessness, and public fear of crime. Lindsay Johns recently visited the city across the bay from San Francisco with of one of its most famous sons, author Ishmael Reed.And in the shadow of the Caucasus Mountains, Beth Timmins attends not one, but three Georgian weddings - occasions full of heritage, music, poetry and toasts of thick red wine. Since contract negotiations began in January between AFSCME 3299 and the University of California, the union has called for higher wages to compensate for high costs of living and housing. AFSCME 3299 recently held rallies across UC campuses in support of their demands. The Latinx Theatre Commons will host a designer and director Colaboratorio in Portland. The event kicks off on June 28 and ends on July 2. Costume and set designers, directors and other creatives will meet to reimagine the typical director-driven theater model. Artists from across the country were chosen to participate in the gathering. Also participating is Francisco Garcia, a director, actor, educator and playwright based in Portland. Jacqueline Flores is a Latinx Theatre Commons producer. They join us with details of the Colaboratorio and share more on the importance of a collaborative approach to making theater.

É sempre difícil precisar qual a primeira imagem televisiva que cada um de nós tem do Francisco. Se para uns será, certamente, a série de grande sucesso, Médico de Família (1997), para outros, será o programa infantil, Os Principais (1996), ou talvez ainda mais tarde, como apresentador no Disney Kids (2004). Vera Hamburger é arquiteta formada pela FAU USP em 1989, mestre em Artes Cênicas pela ECA USP e doutoranda em Arquitetura na FAU USP. Atua, desde 1985, nas áreas da direção de arte e cenografia para cinema, teatro, dança, ópera e exposições, além de dedicar-se á pesquisa e ensino sobre a matéria. Iniciou suas atividades em 1985, com o cenário e figurino da leitura dramática de O homem e o cavalo, sob direção de José Celso Martinez Correa. Desde então, colabora, como diretora de arte e cenógrafa nas diversas áreas. No cinema participou da realização de mais de 30 filmes dos quais destacamos: A ostra e o vento, de Walter Lima Jr; Castelo Ra tim bum, de Cao Hamburger; Carandirú de Hector Babenco; Hoje e Sequestro relâmpago, de Tata Amaral, entre outros. Além disso, Vera é autora do livro Arte em cena, a direção de arte no cinema brasileiro da Editora SENAC e Edições SESC, prêmio Jabuti 2015, e curadora do website sobre vida e obra do cenógrafo Flávio Império www.flavioimperio.com.br, realizado com o apoio do Itaú Cultural. Na área de ensino dedica-se a cursos de direção de arte e cenografia tanto em escolas de curso livre como em instituições de ensino de nível superior desde 2003. Há dez anos desenvolve o Laboratório Fronteiras Permeáveis, no qual discute de maneira prática-teórica, o desenho do espaço como linguagem. Vera foi entrevistada pela diretora de arte Monica Palazzo, graduada em Imagem e Som pela UFSCar e doutoranda em Poéticas Visuais na ECA/USP, com pesquisa sobre cinema 360º e espaço fílmico. Atua como diretora de arte para filmes e séries. Fez a direção de arte dos longas Para minha amada morta (dir. Aly Muritiba), Cores (dir. Francisco Garcia), Rio Cigano (dir. Julia Zakia), Sobre Girassóis (dir. Carol Fioratti, inédito), entre outros. Foi Berlinale Talent em 2007. In a video recorded on Saturday, a plainclothes officer can be seen punching and tackling Donni Wright, a groundskeeper with NYCHA, while shouting the n-word, brandishing a taser, and subsequently kneeling on Wright's head. The confrontation began after officers, some of whom were not wearing face coverings, spotted "a number of people not wearing masks" at the corner of Avenue D and 9th Street, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said on Monday. The officer's shield number, recorded by observers, matches that of Francisco Garcia, a housing patrol officer who's been named in at least seven civil lawsuits since 2015.

Em torno da gravidez, rondam muitos mitos. Logo, existe no imaginário das pessoas a ideia de que não se pode fazer uma série de procedimentos odontológicos para a manutenção da segurança do bebê. Essa informação é, em geral, falsa. Um exemplo bem ilustrativo é a realização de radiografia. O professor Francisco Garcia de Paula e Silva explica que a quantidade de radiação a qual a mulher fica exposta durante o exame odontológico é inferior à necessária para ocasionar má formação congênita ou aborto. Ou seja, ele é seguro durante todas as fases da gestação. Assim como o é a utilização de anestésicos locais e remédios comumente indicados pelos dentistas. No fim, tudo depende da paciente e do tratamento, cada caso deve ser analisado individualmente. É importante consultar um profissional para que ele diga qual é a melhor forma de se tratar a gestante, lembrando que a sua boa saúde bucal contribui para uma gravidez mais segura.
