There's always guests that are into so many things that it is tough to contain it all in one episode. Today's guest, Heather Boddy, is one of those guests. She's into so much and does so much that we did our best to squeeze it all into one episode. We kick things off with talking about the nostalgic movies from our childhood. For Heather, we talk about two that stuck with her - Gremlins and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. She talks about how these movies were instrumental in her childhood, particularly Rocky Horror. From there, we go into Marvel. Not just Marvel Comics, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. Heather talks about how she got into the Marvel side of life, and we talk about one of her favorite characters, She Hulk. Then we talk all about Heather! We dive into the realm of Cosplay and how she was already into it without being into it (listen to the episode to understand that!). We talk about the business she launched, Geeknasium, which is nerdy workouts you can do in the comfort of your own home. And we talk about the podcast she co-hosts, Mental Health Multiverse, and what you can expect to hear. Want more of Heather? Second pilates class in a row babies! Mego and Caitlin finally get to do the Pop Pilates ‘dance on a mat’ with self-identified geek Heather Boddy of the “Love Your Bodd” podcast. We talk about what an actually positive art school experience looks like, Caitlin’s love for Cassey Ho, and who Megan would cosplay as if she was forced to cosplay for the rest of her life. (APOLOGIES TO OUR LOVING FANS- due to technical difficulties and location issues, the last few minutes have some sound issues.)
Hey Loves! Today I had Heather on the show (aka @loveyourbodd) who runs her own podcast all about diversity, feeling good in your body, & more called Love Your Bodd. She grew up doing theater most of her life, but when she graduated college....the industry didn't think she really fit any particular role. She even had a casting director tell her she's never seen someone like Heather casted. OUCH... Heather is such a strong and beautiful soul for not letting this knock her down forever. She found her inner strength and by some synchronicities ended up becoming a group fitness instructor which she incorporates body positive ideals into. Her story is really interesting and inspiring. Yay Lovers!!! Welcome back to Love Your Bodd! I hope you will take some time to LOVE YOURSELF this Valentine's Day! Here are 14 ways to take care of yourself - according to Host, Heather Boddy: 1. Listen to a podcast! Hey! Good job you’re doing that! 2. Sit still and take 3 deep breaths, totally filling up the lungs, in thru the nose out through the mouth. Add a layer and try practicing meditation. There are apps and audios for guided meditation if you feel like you need clarity on something specific and don’t know where to begin. (Try Headspace) 3. Get Fresh AIR! Outside. Walk, run, open the window. 4. Take a a hot bath - and salts, scents, candles and music to set the mood. 5. Read a good book, either something you’ve been meaning to pick up or go back to a favorite that will bring you some comfort. (You can also do this with a movie or TV show but there’s just something about snuggling up with a good book ya know?) 6. Listen to your favorite song. Or a pump you up Playlist. Really JAM to it!!!! 7. Brain dump journal entry. 8. Call someone you care about, catch up, tell them how much they mean to you. 9. Meet one on one with a friend. Grab coffee, food, or hang at home. People who keep close relationships live longer! 10. Look in the mirror and give yourself a genuine compliment (or three) 11. Do something difficult that you’ve been putting off. 12. Date/Treat Yo Self! 13. Get creative! Expressing yourself creatively is very therapeutic. 14. Write out what self care looks like for you specifically. Your host, Heather Boddy, has been feeling A LOT the past couple of weeks. So, she wrote a letter to herself and her listeners about being/feeling insecure and how she doesn't always practice what she preaches! Which is why she decided to share these insecurities with you. She starts with her weight gain/loss story and moves into why she even started this podcast in the first place. She then shares the words of encouragement that she writes for herself when she is feeling ugly, low, insecure, and un-in-love with herself. Hi-dee-hey, do we have a special episode this week. It's the first ladies of Love Your Bodd all together in ONE ROOM! Heather calls them the "Gal Gang" because she likes alliteration and wants to showcase how badass these chicks are. In this interview Heather chats with the 4 beautiful women whose voices you have already heard: Jessica Jain, Kati Frazier, Rachel Lauria, and Ebony Short! Except this time they are all discussing together in one room and may or may not be drinking mimosas. If you want to hear a diverse group of women talk about body image, this is the episode for you. They cover everything from bra size to (lack of) prom dates. It gets a little serious too talking about male gaze the possible need to cut negative people from your life. It's hard out there for a chick. Listen to Gal Gang discuss it.
