Gianmarco Soresi takes a seat in The Wayback as we head to 1990s Potomac, Maryland! (check out his podcast "The Downside"). With two Maryland natives in the wayback, we reminisce about what it was like living through two of the craziest events in Maryland history: the Air Florida Flight 90 disaster and the D.C. Sniper. Then Gianmarco gets nostalgic about theater camp, and 90s toys and video games like Power Rangers, Mario Paint, and Dance Dance Revolution. We also get into some of the great late 90s pro wrestling characters, like D-Generation X, The Undertaker, Mankind and Mr. Socko. Lastly, we do a deep dive on 90s home fitness crazes, like P90x , the Ab Roller, Abflex, 8-minute Abs, and Tony Little. BALTIMORE! I'm coming home! Since 2018 WWE have been taking their Premium Live Events to Saudi Arabia twice a year and raking in major money for doing so. Way back when the deal was first done, many criticised the company's decision to do so, some of its talent refused to go and perform and others were unable to on safety grounds, but the shows went ahead nonetheless. All this brings us to our review of a night that will go down in infamy- due to the World Cup tournament that dominated the undercard of the show, and the once in a lifetime battle between D-Generation X and The Brothers of Destruction which saw Shawn Michaels come out of retirement for his first match in 8 and a half years... The Random Wrestling Review is brought to you this week by Matt, Alex and Tinky.

In February of 1998, WWE were on the road to WrestleMania XIV, arguably one of the most important wrestling shows in the company's history. That month they were presenting No Way Out of Texas: In Your House, to be headlined by an 8-man tag match featuring 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, Cactus Jack & Chainsaw Charlie versus D-Generation X with one drawback- one of their biggest stars, and WWE Champion at the time, Shawn Michaels, was unavailable, owing to the back injury he'd suffered at that year's Royal Rumble (and would keep him out of action after WrestleMania for years). Who WWE would book to replace Shawn Michaels in the match was a major talking point going in...and coming out of the event. Also on the show, Kane continued his path to a first-time confrontation with his brother The Undertaker, in a bout with Vader and The Nation of Domination had what was termed a 'War of Attrition' match with Ken Shamrock, Ahmed Johnson and the DOA. The Random Wrestling Review is brought to you this week by Stephen, Alex and Tinky.

What’s Kayfabe and What’s a Work? This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the new Netflix docuseries Mr. McMahon about WWE founder Vince McMahon. Plus a quick review of the John Wick: Ballerina spinoff. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 John Wick: Ballerina: Mr. McMahon: News Bite From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025) Official Trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FSwsrFpkbw Mr. McMahon (Netflix, 2024) Out of 10 Many Many Many Vince Controversies Darryl: 7.75/10 Brian: 6.24/10 Summary The new Netflix miniseries Mr. McMahon explores the tumultuous life and career of Vince McMahon, the legendary yet controversial co-founder of WWE. This six-part documentary delves into how McMahon transformed WWE from a small regional operation into a global powerhouse, while also examining the darker aspects of his reign, including numerous scandals and sexual misconduct allegations that ultimately led to his resignation. Directed by Chris Smith (Tiger King), the series draws on over 100 hours of interviews with McMahon, his family, and key figures in the wrestling world, giving viewers an unfiltered look at his rise and fall. A central theme is the blurring of lines between McMahon's on-screen persona as the villainous “Mr. McMahon” and his real-life behavior. The series positions him as both a visionary and a figure responsible for perpetuating a toxic culture within professional wrestling. McMahon's eventual downfall is presented as a self-inflicted tragedy, reinforced by his own statements and the testimonies of those close to him . The show serves as both an exposé and a reflection on McMahon's complicated legacy, with Netflix positioning it as a major transition for WWE as it moves into a new era under different leadership. Episode Breakdown: Episode 1: “Junior” Covers Vince McMahon's early years, focusing on his rise to power in WWE after taking over from his father. It touches on his transformation of the company into a global powerhouse, laying the foundation for his eventual on-screen character. Key themes: Vince's business vision, controversial decisions, and initial family dynamics. Interviews: Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, Linda McMahon, Triple H (Paul Levesque), and Dave Meltzer (Wrestling Observer). Episode 2: “Heat” This episode dives into McMahon's federal steroid trial in the 1990s and other scandals that began to mar WWE's image. Interviews: Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Jimmy Hart, and USA Network executives. Commentary from insiders like Bruce Prichard and Eric Bischoff adds depth to the era's controversies. Episode 3: “Screwjob” Focuses on the infamous Montreal Screwjob, where McMahon's on-screen and off-screen personas blended, turning him into the villain “Mr. McMahon.” This episode also covers the fallout and the birth of WWE's Attitude Era. Interviews: Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Bruce Prichard, and others. Episode 4: “Attitude” Covers the peak of the WWE during the “Attitude Era,” highlighting stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and D-Generation X. It also touches on darker moments like Owen Hart's tragic death during a live event. Interviews: The Rock, Steve Austin, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and WWE production crew members. Episode 5: “Family Business” Focuses on Vince's family dynamic, the public offering of WWE stock, the creation of the XFL, and his children's increasing roles within the company. The departure of stars like The Rock and Austin is also explored. Interviews: Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Linda McMahon, and Triple H. Episode 6: “The Finish” This episode chronicles McMahon's fall from grace due to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, leading to his resignation in 2022. It also looks at his attempts to reassert control before finally selling WWE to Endeavor. Interviews: Former WWE employees, media personalities, and legal experts on the misconduct allegations. This documentary paints a comprehensive and controversial portrait of McMahon's legacy in wrestling, with interviews from both family members and key wrestling figures contributing to a detailed narrative about his rise and fall. August 1997 was a quaint period in wrestling history: Before the Montreal Screwjob, before D-Generation X and Hell in a Cell and the Attitude Era, there was a tame little title match at SummerSlam 1997 that would redefine everything. It's Bret Hart versus the Undertaker with Shawn Michaels as guest referee, and it leads directly into a brand new era for WWE. It also partially inspired the recent Drew McIntyre/CM Punk match with Seth Rollins as ref, continuining the trend of Punk paying "homage" to the much better stuff that came before him. Join us as we rewatch this classic showdown.

Plus, we applaud AOC's recent stance and poke fun at some of the more peculiar behaviors within the Republican Party.Ever feel like the media has an unhealthy obsession with President Biden's age? Episode 7 of Bodyslam.net's Break it Down - A D-Generation X Retrospective - HBK Returns! Do you believe in miracles? @WrestlePerks and @CeeHawk discuss the 2002 return of Shawn Michaels to pro wrestling and the fake DX Reunion that broke our hearts.
It's the final Nitro before Starrcade 98. The World Champion competes against Scott Hall in Nitro main event while Kevin Nash watches on from ringside. Elsewhere on Nitro Rey Mysterio battles Eddie Guerrero, and Disco Inferno tries to prove he's worthy of being in the Wolfpac. On Raw Vince McMahon leaves Shane in charge. Shane and Shawn Michaels book D-Generation X in numerous matches against The Corporation including Triple H & X-Pac vs The Rock & Test.
D-Generation X has reformed on WWF Monday Night Raw and now they are here to take over. The plan is to make each member of DX feel important and have them challenge other top level superstars. DX opens the show and challenges The Rock, Stone Cold, and tells Mr. McMahon, “We're Taking Over!” Road Dogg ambushes The Rock when he arrives at the building and they lock him in the trunk of a car and drive off. When they get word that Stone Cole arrives, they split up to go find him. Austin has a series of traps that catch DX off guard. Road Dogg ends up in a bear trap, Billy Gunn gets caught in a snare trap, and X-Pac has the ceiling fall on him. Before all of this, DX claims there would be a new member to the group, however they set Kane up and beat him down. They say he will never join them. Also, after months of the Big Bossman harassing The Big Show and destroying his Dad's watch, he decides to get revenge in a parking lot. He drives a forklift into them while they are in a car and then drops a dumpster on the top of it!
