Move Over Ed Abby, Sy Montgomery's Newest Book Exercises her Story-telling Chops and Her Inner Philosopher in a Big Way.“(To) Wait . . . an ironic verb, an action word, used to describe inaction. Derived from the French “to wake, to become alert to” To wait and to wake are not opposites but twins. We love NOW because it IS now. “Now” holds at once all of time in its fullness” ~ Sy Montgomery, “Of Time and Turtles”Turtles have been around since the time of the dinosaurs, more than 200 million years ago. Even then they may have been subject to the whims of “traffic” but they have, nonetheless, withstood the test of time.To many Native American nations, from the Navajo of the southwestern US to the Abenaki and Iroquois in my own northeast lineage, North America's indigenous people are tied to turtles. The continent itself is often referred to as Turtle Island based on various legends that Turtle delivered North America to earth upon its back. So you may presume, rightly, that I would eagerly anticipate this latest book by New Hampshire's own Sy Montgomery. After having read, listened to, and reread Sy Montgomery's newest book, “Of Time and Turtles - Mending the World, Shell by Shattered Shell,” I am thoroughly convinced that had she been born into the Iroquois Nation, a matrilinial society, she would have been seen as a mystic and given a fitting honorific, something akin to “Speaks with Turtles.” Of Time and Turtles - Mending the World, Shell by Shattered ShellWritten by Sy Montgomery, Illustrated by Matt Patterson

He also talks about how COVID has affected his scheduling and practice planning this year. He also gives us some hints as to what players within the Iroquois program are primed to make waves in college this year.Last Week:WOW… We started this podcast in July as a hobby, without a guest or any plans to bring guests on right away. It’s no coincidence that on episode 22 we brought in a Syracuse legend, and while he never wore 22 he’s certainly harassed a bunch of them in his day, Ric Beardsley.Ric has countless accolades to his name, he was a 4x All-American 2x National Champion at Syracuse, is currently the head coach at CBA (an elite boy’s high school program in upstate New York), a master clinician, and he recently became an assistant coach for ATLAS LC of the PLL.Talking with Coach Ric was one of easiest and most enlightening experiences I’ve had in my lacrosse life, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.Next Week:Next week we will have another two episode drop, Wednesday we will have Greg from ECD and Friday we welcome the legendary Mark Millon. As Swami has said, “Donald Trump is America’s balloon karma payment.”American history – not unlike the history of humankind in general – has moved forward on two parallel and seemingly opposite tracks. One track, based on the Declaration of Independence, has sought to expand freedom, justice, equality and the common good. The other track has been the reactionary forces pursuing the obsolete and obsolethal meme, dominate-or-be-dominated.So those who dismiss our Founding Fathers as white elitists, many of them slaveholders, who allowed the genocide of Native People are right. And … those who recognize the founding principles, many of them based on the wisdom of the Iroquois Nation and other Native peoples, they are right too. And unless we reconcile these two “rights” it will be “last rites” for American democracy. Our guest on Wiki Politiki this week, Glenn Aparicio Parry, has a new book that highlights the Native wisdom at the foundation of the American system, and offers way to use that wisdom to restore – or maybe even establish for the first time – a sane and sacred center at the heart of our Republic.Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, is a writer, educational consultant, international speaker, and entrepreneur with a vision to reform thinking and education into a coherent, cohesive whole. From 1999-2011, he organized and participated in the groundbreaking Language of Spirit Conferences, bringing together Native and Western scientists in dialogue. The founder and past president of the SEED Institute, he currently runs a think tank and regularly moderates dialogues. In addition to his current book, “Original Politics: Making America Sacred Again”, he is the author of the Nautilus award-winning Original Thinking: A Radical Revisioning of Time, Humanity and Nature. He lives in northern New Mexico. He says, “Once we recognize the truth of how we are all connected, it becomes easier to stand back and look again at people with whom we disagree on one thing or another, including politics.”If you’re ready for a meta-view of how we can establish the heart and soul of who we really are at a time of toxic polarization, please join us this Tuesday, August 4th, 2-3 pm PT / 5-6 pm ET.To find out more about Glenn Aparicio Parry please go here. https://originalthinking.us/original-politics-book/Support Wiki Politiki — A Clear Voice In the “Bewilderness”If you LOVE what you hear, and appreciate the mission of Wiki Politiki, “put your money where your mouse is” … Join the “upwising” — join the conversation, and become a Wiki Politiki supporter: http://wikipolitiki.com/join-the-upwising/Make a contribution in any amount via PayPal (https://tinyurl.com/y8fe9dks)Go ahead, PATRONIZE me! Connie Baxter Marlow and Andrew Cameron – Revising Revisionist HistoryAired Tuesday, 16 July 2019, 5:00 PM EST / 2:00 PM PSTInterview with Connie Baxter Marlow and Andrew Cameron Bailey, Researchers and Makers of the Film “Seeds of Freedom”“Instead of pulling apart in a tug-of-war, we need to pull together in a tug of peace.” — Swami BeyondanandaMy favorite pleasantly provocative and curiosity-inducing question is … “Did you know?”Did you know … that there were fifty-four years of peace and friendship between the Mayflower Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians in Plymouth Colony between 1621 and 1675?You didn’t? Neither did I until I met this week’s guests Connie Baxter Marlow and Andrew Cameron Bailey some years ago, and they told me the inspiring story of how visionary leaders of two radically different cultures met and worked together to maintain an inter-cultural exchange that became what Bailey and Marlow call the “First Great Synthesis” between Europeans and American Indians. While many – including my own book Spontaneous Evolution credit the Iroquois Nation with the ideals and structures of governance that inspired our Constitution – Marlow and Cameron offer compelling evidence that many of these “seeds of freedom” came from the Pilgrims themselves.Connie Baxter Marlow is a descendant of Mayflower Pilgrims John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, known as America’s First Couple, made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem. Her great-great-grandfather James Phinney Baxter, a pre-eminent historian of early New England, was President of the New England Historical Genealogical Society for 20 years. Connie brings a unique perspective to her ancestors’ dreams for humanity, in that she has spent 30 years in close association with visionary Native American elders throughout the United States and Mexico, and has been creating forums for them to share their understanding of the nature of the Universe for over 20 years.Andrew Cameron Bailey calls himself a “latter-day pilgrim.” He sailed across the Atlantic and arrived in America on Thanksgiving Day, 1969. He was born in England and grew up in South Africa amongst the Zulus, holds degrees in science, English and social anthropology, and was a chemistry professor before emigrating to the United States. After meeting Connie in 2003 he became disturbed at the level of misinformation in the American psyche surrounding the settling of New England, and the ongoing deprecation and denigration of the Pilgrims and the Puritans in present-day America. Andrew is the author of the 21st Century historical mystery novel/screenplay “The Mayflower Revelations,” that sets the historical record straight in an entertaining, enlightening and inspiring way.If you’re ready to entertain a more complete and holistic view of the founding of our country, please tune in this Tuesday, July 16th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET. http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/One more thing… How YOU and WE Can Make a DifferenceHave you noticed that regardless of which of the two political parties you vote for, neither of them seem to be willing to confront Monsanto and agribusiness? Aired Tuesday, 30 October 2018, 5:00 PM ESTCan The Heart of the Goddess Help Us Overgrow the Dark of Heartlessness? An Interview with Hallie Igelhart Austen, Author of The Heart of the Goddess: Art, Myth and Meditations of the World’s Sacred Feminine“Time to replace rule by the scared masculine with the sacred feminine.” — Swami BeyondanandaIf there’s been any awakening in the wake of the 2016 election, it’s been the awakening of women’s power, and more recently, the Sacred Feminine. As we are more and more coming to understand, this is not just about boys and girls, boys and girls. The sacred feminine — as with matriarchal societies in the ancient world — is not about the feminine dominating over the masculine, but rather a co-equal partnership where there IS NO domination, bullying, violence or exploitation. And, the dominate-or-be-dominated meme that has characterized Western so-called civilization for millennia is a direct result of the absence of the sacred feminine. Consider how different our nation (and world) would be if our Founding Fathers had including Founding Mothers, if in adapting and adopting the Iroquois Nations’ political system, they had included the Council of Grandmothers along with balance of powers and a federal system? In the Iroquois Nation, after all, it was the elder women who decided if and when the nation went to war, and they also could impeach an unscrupulous or incompetent chief. But because in 1787 it was culturally impossible to give Martha, Abigail, Dolley or Betsy a seat at the council, we are paying the price today. We have a heartless, mechanistic system that utterly discounts and misunderstands the feminine, and is bent on the four E’s of Evil — extraction, exploitation, extortion and extinction. No individual is to blame for any of this. Most humans on the planet want the same things — clean air, clean water, clean food, clean government, respect for one another and the natural world. But because there is no over-arching context or movement speaking to this one fundamental issue, we have been at the merciless mercy of “might makes right.”Our guest this week on Wiki Politiki, Hallie Igelhart Austen, author of The Heart of the Goddess: Art, Myth and Meditations of the World’s Sacred Feminine, offers insight and encouragement for renewing and re-establishing the wisdom of the Goddess in our lives and world.Hallie Iglehart Austen grew up on a farm and has lived close to the earth for most of her life. Her lifelong interest in goddesses began at the age of twelve when she started studying ancient Greek language and mythology at Bryn Mawr School. After graduating from Brown University, she drove from England to Nepal and back again over the course of a year. This journey, described in her book, Womanspirit, led to her synthesis of spirituality and feminism, which she first started teaching in 1974. She has led workshops, rituals and conferences at the University of California, United Nations International Women’s Conference, and Graduate Theological Union among others. She created Womanspirit Meditations and collected worldwide Goddess art, myth and meditations in her book, The Heart of the Goddess. What can we learn from the ancient art depicting the Goddess and life in a matriarchal culture? How can men relate to and use this wisdom? How do we bring these understandings to the here-and-now, to inspire and unite us at a critical time?Tune in this Tuesday, October 30th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET and find out! http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/Or, find us on the Wiki archives on Wednesday: http://wikipolitiki.com/archives/To find out more about Hallie and her book, please go here (https://heartgoddess.net/ and https://heartgoddess.net/goddesses-origins/)Support Wiki Politiki — A Clear Voice In The “Bewilderness”If you LOVE what you hear, and appreciate the mission of Wiki Politiki, “put your money where your mouse is” … Join the “upwising” — join the conversation, and become a Wiki Politiki supporter: http://wikipolitiki.com/join-the-upwising/Make a contribution in any amount via PayPal (https://tinyurl.com/y8fe9dks)Go ahead, PATRONIZE me! The Iroquois were hunters and gatherers, farmers, and fishermen but the main staples of their diet came from farming. They harvested the three sisters -corn, beans, and squash as well as tobacco for smoking. Their crops were grown in a very specific manner and were managed, grown, and harvested by the women of the tribe. Out of six annual ceremonies, four of them revolved around the corn crops. They would move to a new settlement close to water every 10-30 years as the soil lost its nutrients and the animal and fish population declined. The women of the tribe also gathered wild berries and roots, greens, barks, sunflower, nuts, and herbs for both cooking and for medicine. In early spring, they tapped the sap from Maple trees and turned it into maple syrup. The men were gone during the winter months hunting deer, elk, wild turkey, beaver, fowl, and other woodland animals. Being so close to the St. Lawrence river, they also relied heavily on fishing as a constant source of food. They caught several types of fish including salmon, trout, and bass. The main tools used for hunting and farming include stone axes, various size arrowheads, wooden hoes, and knives. Spears were also used when fishing. http://native-american-indian-facts.com/Northeast-American-Indian-Facts/Iroquois-Indian-Facts.shtml Public Access America PublicAccessPod Productions Footage downloaded and edited by Jason at PublicAccessPod producer of Public Access America Podcast Links Review us Stitcher: goo.gl/XpKHWB Review us iTunes: goo.gl/soc7KG Subscribe GooglePlay: goo.gl/gPEDbf YouTube goo.gl/xrKbJb YouTube “Not for ourselves alone, but that we must teach others.” Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Wallace Mad Bear Anderson from the Tuscarora tribe of the Iroquois Nation was one of the great Medicine Men of all time. He had a deep understanding of nature and Spirit.  Author Doug Boyd describes him as having a name that suited him, a name given to him by his grandmother due to his bad temper.  "Mad Bear did not at all match my image of him.  I had never seen anyone quite like him before, yet it seemed very reasonable to me that there should be such a person.  His name suited him, or perhaps it was the other way around." ~Doug Boyd Mad Bear was recognized as a highly sophisticated, articulate, and skilled Medicine Man who traveled widely and lived and studied with Druids, Vikings,Tibetans, Hindu yogis, and various aboriginal peoples.  He was the catalyst for much healing, both personal and global. "The purpose of good medicine is to make it simple. There's no need to create any opposing destructive force; that only makes more negative energy and more results and more problems.”  ~Mad Bear Anderson Join us tonight as Supernatural Girlz Patricia Baker and Becky Andreasson speak with Mad Bear’s apprentice and Sacred Son, Michael Bastine on Memories of Mad Bear.
