"It's really based on how people maintain their properties. They're all the homes that look identical but they're actually different." -Stuart Mitchell Episode Description: Fire is one of the most destructive disasters that can happen to a home. It can take just minutes for a fire to completely destroy everything you have worked so hard for. Therefore, fire mitigation practices should start in our homes. This means that we need to be prepared for the worst and have a plan in place. This week, Jennifer interviews Fire Mitigation Advisor, Stuart Mitchell. Jennifer and Stuart discuss how we can make our homes self-defended, what tools and resources can help us be better prepared for fires, what we should know about landscaping and fires, what we can do to minimize the effect of ember casts, how we can turn our pools into assets, how we can be organized as a community to help each other in times of need, and more! Meet Gregg Braden Gregg Braden is a six-time New York Times best-selling author, researcher, educator, lecturer and is internationally renowned as a pioneer bridging modern science, spirituality, and human potential. From 1979 to 1991 Gregg worked as a problem solver during times of crisis for Fortune 500 companies, including Cisco Systems, where he became the first Technical Operations Manager in 1991. He continues problem-solving today as he merges modern science and the wisdom of our past to reveal real-world solutions to the issues that challenge our lives. His research has led to 15 film credits and 12 award-winning books now published in over 40 languages. Gregg is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and is active with visionary organizations, including the HeartMath Global Coherence Initiative and The Arlington Institute. He has presented his discoveries in over 30 countries on six continents and has been invited to speak to The United Nations, Fortune 500 companies, and the U. S. military. The United Kingdom's Watkins Journal lists Gregg among the top 100 of "the world's most spiritually influential living people" for the 6th consecutive year. He is a 2020 nominee for the prestigious Templeton Award, established to honor "outstanding individuals who have devoted their talents to expanding our vision of human purpose and ultimate reality." This is the third time (be sure to also check out Thrive Now) I gratefully had Gregg on as a guest. In this episode, he spoke on his course Radical Resilience and answered many of your questions (thank you, You-est You soul seekers for sending in your inquiries). I think you'll find this conversation extremely powerful, informative, hopeful, and empowering about your innate human design and ways to reclaim your sovereignty and well-being. Gregg Braden has become a mentor, inspiration, friend, and someone who is steeped in science and the facts, yet is here to remind us that we are wired for health, well-being, goodness, kindness, and resilience. You might want to read that again. This is such hopeful and uplifting news. We all have incredible inner power and healing abilities. This is a time to go deep within and reconnect to our divine nature and inner workings. The Secret of a Long Life and Your Powerful Soft Technology You're going to love this way of looking at longevity. The research we do have is substantial in supporting the power of our mind, body, and the way we live our lives as it affects our health, vitality, and sense of youth. Gregg Braden shared the secret to a long life is to constantly go through a healing process. There are two ways we typically look at this: 1) traditional linear aging: this is where you are born with a certain amount of life force, and every day you lose some of that life force. In this model, we're conditioned to believe that aging equals deterioration, but it doesn't have to be that way at all. 2) Cyclic aging: you are always moving forward in chronological time and still reversing the aging process through lifestyle choices and factors, such as the way you treat your body, your mindset, what you envision, and how you're managing stress because of epigenetics (which has found that 99% of your health and well-being is dependent on lifestyle factors, with only 1% due to actual genetics). Epigenetics is excellent news, and when you manage your health through excellent nutrition, clean water, supplements, breath, movement, and mind the way you think, you can upgrade your biology and DNA. Our neurons in our brain respond to the image we see of ourselves. These neurochemicals match our picture, which hopefully reminds you of the power you have to envision yourself healthy, fit, full of vitality, and well. It All Comes Down to This Question I love Gregg Braden's teachings and work because of the greater positive forces surrounding us and our ability to tap into our own consciousness, heart intelligence, and field of intelligence to create the results we desire. The central question to really ask yourself is this; "Do you love yourself enough to allow this love to work in your life, to give yourself what you need and what is most loving?" In the end, it all comes down to love. This is an important question to ponder and can be used with any situation at any time. The litmus test becomes based on a loving framework where you are asking yourself what is most loving. The choice to take action is, of course, up to you. Your Innate Healing Abilities and Aging Gregg Braden shared about a nun he had met in Tibet who was extraordinarily wise with incredible energy. She looked like she could be in her 70's and still remembered events over a century ago. He later found out that this woman was 120 years old. Did she hold the secret to a long life? Her vitality had nothing to do with age and everything to do with the way she lived her life. In addition to neuroplasticity, which is the ability to fire and rewire our neuronal patterns and change beliefs and thought patterns, we also have what's called biological plasticity. Our biology can change and regrow for the better. We're conditioned to believe that age means disease and decline, but in Gregg's travels around the globe, he has seen firsthand that it doesn't have to at all. Plant Medicine and Deeper Awareness One of our listeners (and a very dear friend) asked about Gregg's view on plant medicine. Plant medicine is a code word for hallucinogenic products such as psilocybin, ayahuasca, peyote, etc. Scientifically, he shared that DMT is only produced naturally in the body two times; when you're born and when you die. What he's found in researching the effects is that over time, high usage does thicken the tissue in the brain and can impact everyday function. You can achieve high levels of consciousness without any substance, as shown with the Tibetan monks, who have achieved 80 cycles of gamma brain waves and even 200 cycles, which is considered a hyper gamma brain state. Do an inner check and ask yourself these important questions before using any plant medicine: What is the purpose? What is your intent? Be sure if it does feel like a calling that you choose a medically certified place where the source of brew is known. The Questions That Can Change Your Life Gregg Braden shared about his vulnerable Mt. Sinai moments years ago when reviewing life choices such as where he wanted to live, whether to stay in his earlier partnership, changing career, etc. He ended up hiking Mt. Sinai in Egypt, and it was at that sunrise he asked himself this question: if I knew today was my last day, would I feel complete? Before he could answer the question, his inner wisdom immediately shouted "no!" The next question that followed was, what would it take to say yes? That answer became his guiding stone and is the force that helps him with every decision as he asks, "does this get me closer to my yes?" It's a wonderful decision-making process based on your full yes, and that can be deep, fun, and all about your life purpose and life energy. After contemplating these deeper questions, he made some major life changes after this experience that forever changed the trajectory of his life. Our surroundings influence us, and it's good to get out of our everyday surroundings to assess our choices, as Gregg did on this hike in Egypt. Perhaps see where you can take time in a new surrounding, even if it's for the day, to really assess and ask yourself these questions. Each of us will have our own inner truth. Joy, meaning, and beauty are different for everyone. Rather than judging others for anything else, follow your own inner calling and desire for joy. Our Strength Is Our Diversity and the Covid Vaccine We had a few questions about this current Covid vaccine, and Gregg Braden shared both scientific findings and had a real openness around supporting differing beliefs. This is not a one size fits all situation. As this is a heated topic for some, the reminder is that our strength is in our diversity and our different ways of thinking. Even as it applies to the Covid vaccine, this diversity is actually an asset, not the other way around. Do be sure to read the manufacturer fact sheet as that is the best way to know and understand all of the ingredients in the variety of vaccine offerings. Do whatever feels right for you, as you have the right to care for your body in the most aligned way. We are powerful beings with powerful innate healing abilities. Let's honor the diversity of beliefs and decisions, knowing that it is in the variance that is the strength and highest good for all. Final Thoughts Gregg Braden always brings a wealth of knowledge. His Radical Resilience touches on the secret to a long life which isn't what we all desire? A long and happy life? You can learn more about your innate resilience through Gregg's course "Radical Resilience" at greggbraden.com. If You Are Ready to Improve Your Reproductive and Overall Health Through Cycle Syncing, You Should: Use the P.U.Z.Z.L.E. Method to change the aspects of your health that you can control Learn to listen to your bodies signals and find ways to understand what those signals mean Allow your body to heal naturally by providing it with the correct diet, stress management, and mindset Have you ever noticed your cycle syncing with women around you or even with the moon? As women, we are cyclical beings, and optimizing your cycle by syncing with the moon is one of the best things you can do to support your reproductive health and overall wellbeing. Getting Clear on Hormone Imbalance Kela Smith is the CEO and program director of the Hormone Puzzle Society, a woman's health hub for fertility, hormones, and the business of coaching. Kela works with women who are struggling with infertility and hormone imbalance and coaches them to get pregnant naturally and eliminate symptoms of hormone imbalance. She brings over 20 years of experience as a professional fitness trainer, wellness educator, and author, as well as a mama to two beautiful children. There Is a Way to Get Pregnant Naturally When Kela was told it would be nearly impossible for her to get pregnant naturally in her late 30's, she took matters into her own hands. After giving birth at 37 and again at 40, she went back to school to help women realize that there is a better alternative and it is totally possible to get pregnant naturally later in life. Our bodies have an innate capacity for healing naturally, but it is up to us to listen to our body needs so that we can provide it everything it needs to feel better, have fewer symptoms, and focus on what is in our control. It All Comes Down to the Moon The two most important things you can do to improve the syncing of your cycle start with diet and stress management. When we can follow the patterns of the moon, we can improve our reproductive health and overall physical health and well-being. Reproduction is a miracle, and when we can optimize it, not only does our health benefit but our hormones, productivity, happiness, and mood do too. Even if you are not bleeding anymore, syncing your cycle with the moon can still have massive benefits on your whole body's health. Are you ready to enjoy all of the benefits that come with syncing your cycle to the moon? Share how you are looking to improve your reproductive or overall health through syncing with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “I left that doctor's office, and I said ‘I am on a mission to optimize my fertility naturally', and that's exactly what I did. I figured out what I needed to eat, what my lifestyle needed to look like, my exercise was too much, my toxins were too much, I just really dove in.” (6:10) “I want to go back to Jr. High and teach all the girls, this is what a normal period is, this is how you track your cycle. Forget the algebra class, let's go with some women's health classes.” (10:32) “We are always tapping into Earth's natural energy. So that is where syncing with the moon comes in.” (20:49) “It's about listening to your body and intuitively doing what you feel like you want to do anyways based on where your hormones are.” (22:18) “I like to look at going into menopause as a rebirth. This is your second season in life. Instead of things ending, this is your new beginning!” (24:53) In This Episode What you can do to support your body's ability to heal and conceive naturally (7:49) Breaking down the different parts of your cycle and how it affects your hormones (12:43) The benefits of syncing your cycle with the moon even if you are not bleeding anymore (20:42) Learn about the Hormone P.U.Z.Z.L.E. Today's Guest: Shawn Mullins, singer, songwriter, "My Stupid Heart," "Lullabye" Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Shawn Mullins by clicking on the video player above! Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience full of Shawn Mullins fans who don’t think there is anything wrong with the man’s heart… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! If you’re looking for a troubadour whose songs of love and the road might speak to your heart, you’ve come to the right place today. My guest, Shawn Mullins, has just released a new album full of longing and places, some with a little of both. And if you don’t know his work, I wonder if you’ll hear the influences that I do, ranging from the mirth and joy of George Harrison and Warren Zevon to the intensity and message of Bob Dylan and a little of Michael Franks’ romantic spice? Or I could be way, way off. That’s why I’m going to talk to the man in just a moment. SHAWN MULLINS podcast excerpt: "'My Stupid Heart' is about the way I felt after a third marriage didn't work out... I felt unsuccessful as a human being in that I couldn't find a partner, although I've had wonderful relationships with all three of my wives. And I'm still close friends with two of three of them and I miss the other one." You can LISTEN to this interview with singer-songwriter SHAWN MULLINS, whose latest album is MY STUPID HEART, by clicking the audio player above! My Stupid Heart is Mullins’ 16th release and it’s packed full of songs such as the title tune and “It All Comes Down to Love” and “Pre-Apocalyptic Blues” – songs that you’ll be singing or humming along with by the second play. And, of course, there is the more serious plaint of “Ferguson,” which reflects the agony of the Missouri city. SHAWN MULLINS podcast excerpt: "When it comes to police brutality, obviously nobody wants that. I've known a lot of police officers over the years... I think it's a very small percentage (doing bad things), but it's getting a lot of attention. The fact that it's happening and that people can be profiled and it leads to violent situations just because of the color of someone's skin is pretty screwed up. That song, 'Ferguson,' is about the whole picture. A lot of people said, 'Don't name it that,' but that made us want to do it even more." Mullins is on tour through at least the end of spring, including a four-day birthday bash appearance in Duluth, Georgia, in early March and participation in the Safety Harbor SongFest on April 3rd right here in the Tampa Bay, Florida, area. Today, he performs two songs live for us: “The Great Unknown” and “Pre-Apocalyptic Blues.” Key interview moments: • 5:50 Shawn Mullins talks about how police brutality and racial profiling moved him to write his new song, "Ferguson"; • 23:45 After his third marriage fell apart, Mullins explains how he took a six-year hiatus from the road -- and relationships; • 43:45 Mullins tells how he met his writing partner Chuck Cannon, who then introduced him to his wife, actress and country music singer Lari White, who produced "My Stupid Heart." Volatility Views 87: It All Comes Down to Timing Volatility Review: The VIX shot up at the beginning of the week, but was selling off by the end of the week. There was a broad vol story happening this week, particularly in the commodities with gold vol spiking 500% over two weeks. Volatility Viewpoint: Bob Krause discusses the RealVol Index, available at VolX, which features nine daily indexes. Bob also talks about how a real-time value can be calculated from a daily value. Listener Mail: Tell us what you want to know. Question from Blake M, Troy, NY: If I trade bullish risk reversals, does the volatility premium give me an inherent advantage over collar/bearish risk reversal trades? Question from Mitten, Toronto, ON: When does VolX plan to launch a RealVol contract on commodities? I think a metals contract would be very popular and profitable for the exchange. Question from Mike P: Mark, are you aware of any research, or can you bring on any guest to discuss to the performance of at-the-money straddles during earnings cycles? It can be either from the short or long side. I'm surprised at the lack of available information on this topic, given the importance of the subject matter. This impacts pretty much every options trader at least once every quarter. Any light that you could shine on this through your fantastic radio network and website would be very much appreciated. The Crystal Ball: Apple and other earnings next week, which have an impact on vol premium. The bulls could be coming back in force.
