Bernero, who also co-created the Criminal Minds spinoff, Suspect Behavior, will serve as writer and showrunner for the Richard Ryder-focused series. Additionally, off the heels of last week's reports about Chris Evans' return to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, last Friday, Variety broke the news that Evans' frequent scene partner, Hayley Atwell is also expected to reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter. While the DCU officially launched earlier this month with the premiere of Creature Commandos on Max, James Gunn's first live action offering, next summer's Superman, unveiled its official poster via social media Monday morning. The image, a motion graphic, is an obvious allusion to Christopher Reeves' take on the character, and showcases David Corenswett's Superman ascending in flight, accompanied by a remix of John Williams' classic score and a tagline that reads, ‘Look up.' Exciting details; all of which preempts the gut punch that the official teaser trailer will not release until Thursday… (Thanks, James…) Elsewhere, horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan has been given the go ahead to write his standalone Clayface film. Host Meg Wolitzer presents two unconventional love stories, one classic, one contemporary, that avoid the usual tropes of “meet cute,” “opposites attract,” or “happily ever after” but are still engaging.  In “Love in the Slump,” by Evelyn Waugh, clueless upper-crust newlyweds are sent on a comic odyssey.  The reader is Jane Kaczmarek.  And Esther Yi's “Moon” explores something we often mistake for love—obsession, as a young woman is drawn farther and farther into K-Pop fandom.The story was selected by guest editor Min Jin Lee for Best American Short Stories 2023.  It's read by Hettienne Park.  And we hear Lee's and Park's thoughts about the story.

Guest host Jane Kaczmarek presents two stories from the Best American Short Stories 2021 anthology selected by guest editor Jesmyn Ward. Both involve adolescents facing displacement or rejection, but the stories are set in very different environments: One takes place in a surreal, Soviet-occupied Afghanistan, and one inside a junior high school in Tennessee.  First, Leo Solomon reads “Playing Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain,” by Jamil Jan Kochai.  Then we hear “Biology,” a beautiful story by Kevin Wilson, performed by Mike Doyle.  And Ward comments briefly on her approach to creating this year's diverse anthology.

Jane Kaczmarek may be a three-time Golden Globe nominee for playing Lois in the television series “Malcolm in the Middle,” but she considers theatre home. Over the past few years, she starred in "Long Day's Journey Into Night" at the Geffen Playhouse and "The Roommate" and "Tell Me I'm Not Crazy" at Williamstown Theatre Festival. This month, she'll play the Stage Manager in "Our Town" at Sharon Playhouse in Sharon, Connecticut through September 24.

Gay took a famous Margaret Atwood story, titled "Rape Fantasies," as her inspiration. Both "Rape Fantasies" and "Men on Bikes" are about imagination, revenge and joking about subjects that make people uneasy. It's read by actress Jane Kaczmarek.Comedian Alison Leiby knows how to make us laugh about a subject people aren't prepared to laugh about. Her solo show "Oh God, a Show About Abortion," had a sold-out run in New York and has been touring the U.S. She and host Aparna Nancherla discuss how she approached finding the funny in a hot button topic.
