In the premiere episode of Season 11: The Son of Cult Flicks, Kyle is joined by graphic designer Nell Bailey and podcaster/filmmaker Michael Willer to discuss the godmother of cult films: Richard O'Brien and Jim Sharman's delirious homage to 1950s B-movie schlock and rock n' roll with the gender-bending, taboo-breaking, and revolutionary The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975).
We continue our Camp Cinema season in our sixth episode covering The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and The Day of the Locust (1975). Special Guest: scholar, artist, author, and curator Marisa C. Hayes of the wonderful Afterimages podcast and book series. The first film discussed needs no introduction, though Dan and Chris could have used one since the Jim Sharman-directed camp classic was a first-watch for both of them. Enter Marisa to help break down why it perhaps took so many years for two Midwest suburban boys to break through its storied midnight movie status and witness its madcap genius. Then, a hard pivot to John Schlesinger's takedown of the Golden Age of Hollywood in all its messy, over-the-top glory. The proto-Babylon isn't fully self-aware of its turgid and grisly nature, though perhaps that's exactly what defines it as an underrated camp gem, though certainly an oddity that lies on the fringes of canon.

Happy Anniversary to the original Australian company of The Rocky Horror Show - the production opened at the New Art Cinema, Glebe on April 19th, 1974. This outrageous musical has a book, musical and lyrics by Richard O'Brien, and is a tribute to the B-grade Science Fiction and Horror films of the 1930s to early 60s. It's premiere production was produced and directed by the brilliant Australian creative Jim Sharman, upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre on 19th June, 1973.The iconic Australian production was produced by the legendary impresario Harry M. Miller and directed by the brilliant Jim Sharman.A veritable who's who of actors filled the roles throughout its first Australian productions. The musical continued to host extraordinary talents in the flamboyant roles through the decades since, and the show has morphed through different production approaches to realise the camp tale of Dr Frank N. Furter and the disturbed, disruptive and decadent inhabitants of his isolated castle. The show awakens a sexuality and excitement in each new generation that witnesses the stage production, or the iconic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show: also directed by Jim Sharman and designed by celebrated Australian designer, Brian Thomson. The STAGES podcast featured Brian Thomson in a thrilling double episode. We've also been honoured to traverse the careers of many of the original Australian production's sensational cast, which include Maureen Elkner, Reg Livermore, Sal Sharah, and Kate Fitzpatrick. In this very special episode of the STAGES podcast, we recall the experiences of those artists in that very first Rocky Horror Show, and salute a musical that has become an intrinsic part of that theatrical form. The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. Film de science-fiction horrifique, comédie musicale déjantée, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, cʹest culte. Before it became the cult midnight movie phenomenon ushering in a new kind of counter-culture revolution, The Rocky Horror Picture Show had humble beginnings as a play called They Came from Denton High written by Richard O'Brien and directed by Jim Sharman at the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square, Chelsea, London. Right before the previews, it was changed at the suggestion of Jim Sharman to be The Rocky Horror Show. We will take a look at genesis as well as the evolution from play to movie and beyond. “As much as I struggled with the works themselves in terms of these broader themes, and I guess what was important to me; I do love the art. The craft of getting your mouth around Shakespeare. I love the language.” This week on Speak The Speech, we are joined by award-wining actor, director, and dramaturg Rachael Maza. Rachel talks to us about working with John Bell and Jim Sharman on The Tempest for Bell Shakespeare in 1997, her work as Artistic Director of ILBIJERRI Theatre Company and taking First Nations works overseas, and how she feels Shakespeare sits alongside First Nations theatre and the reclaiming of language. With episodes nearing 300 in the STAGES archive, it's time to revisit conversations featured in our previous seasons. STAGES spotlights such episodes, in case you missed them the first time ‘round - or so you can simply savour, a second listen. Either way, you'll accessing precious oral histories from the people who were there, on and around our stages. Kate Fitzpatrick is one of our great actors. She was born in Perth but grew up in Adelaide. It was in this city that she developed her passion for art and cricket and classical music. Her potential as a visual artist was recognised by Jeffrey Smart, who awarded her a travelling art scholarship to Japan. Her love of cricket lead her to an appointment as the world's first female Cricket commentator. And classical music has sustained her through a vast array of experiences in a career that has rewarded and challenged. At the age of 18 she was accepted into NIDA to study Acting. This instigated her move to Sydney and a career as one of our favourite actors. Her triumphant theatre roles include The Lady of Camellias, Hamlet on Ice, Rooted, Insignificance and Kennedy's Children. She was there at the beginning of a burgeoning Australian theatre working in seminal works at The Jane Street Theatre, The Old Tote Theatre and Nimrod. She created the role of Magenta in the original Australian production of The Rocky Horror Show and began her career alongside iconic Australian directors like John Bell, Rex Cramphorne and Jim Sharman. She has been a regular face on our film and television. And an unmistakeable voice on radio. Kate has made an impression across all mediums. Kate joined me for Episode 99 of the podcast over a long lunch and a candid conversation. She detailed an extraordinary life in the theatre and some extraordinary experiences with some extraordinary people. Kate has since become a regular on the STAGES podcast, co-hosting our annual Christmas episode. She is tremendous fun and tells a great story - as you'll hear in this compelling conversation from the STAGES vault. On today's episode, we're heading up to that weird castle that we passed a few miles back and entering at our own risk while we revisit the absolutely seminal cult classic film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). This movie was directed by Jim Sharman and written by Richard O'Brien. This movie stars Tim Curry (Clue, Charlie's Angels, Scary Movie 2), Susan Sarandon (Thelma and Louise, Stepmom, The Banger Sisters), Barry Bostwick (Weekend at Bernie's II, Teen Beach Movie, Incredibles 2), Richard O'Brien (Shock Treatment, Spice World, Elvira's Haunted Hills), Patricia Quinn (Shock Treatment, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life), and Nell Campbell (Shock Treatment, Pink Floyd-The Wall). This film is the definition of a midnight movie that laid the groundwork for other cult films to come. This movie embraces the oddballs of the world and is a beautiful example of camp. Please do yourself a favor and pop this movie on. Enjoy the wonderful music, enjoy the horrid acting, and give yourself over to absolute pleasure.Intro/Outro Music: "Phantom Fun" by Jonathan BoyleShow E-Mail: cultcinemacircle@gmail.com Follow Cult Cinema Circle on Instagram, Twitter, and Letterboxd Hosted on Acast. “IT'S NOT EASY HAVING A GOOD TIME.. EVEN SMILING MAKES MY FACE ACHE.“This month, we at Retro Grade Podcast decided to cover one of the most beloved cult classics and recognizable LGBTQ+ themed movies of all time, The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Directed by Jim Sharman, written by Richard O'Brien, starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell and Richard O'Brien themself! Austin is a huge Rocky Horror Picture Show fan, but Jorge has never seen it. Throughout the course of recording this podcast, Jorge has a preference for movies with strong plots, and the musical genre is not exactly his favorite. However, after starting this show, Jorge has watched even more musicals and may actually be a secret music fan. Will he be converted to the House of Rocky during this episode? We talk about how the movie serves as an homage to the campy sci-fi and horror movies of the 50's and 60's, references old Hollywood, glam rock, and classic art, all to tell a very fun movie with catchy music. However, beneath the fun exterior lies a story about a sexual awakening contrasted with the conservative sexual politics from the world the main characters come from, a fictional town in middle America. We talk about how the film can be empowering and inspiring, and also get a modern perspective of how some of the ideas can seen as problematic, and we give our opinions on controversy. We talk about how the Rocky Horror show was born from the mind of Richard O'Brien, a transgender person in 1972 going through gender dysphoria while trying to be an actor. Without any of the resources (some) people in the LGBTQ+ community have today, Richard unintentionally wrote about what they were going through as a stageplay that turned into something the Library of Congress deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.” How did The Rocky Horror Picture Show go from box office flop, to the longest running theatrical release for a film of all time? We get into all of that and so much more! We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did making it!Music is from Triune Digital and audio clips pulled from movies we will be reviewing in other episodes.Artwork by @jannelle_o

Dylan's film choice, Jim Sharman's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975), and Marley's album pick, Sara Bareilles' "What's Inside: Songs from Waitress" (2015), fit this episode's theme of Musicals.
This month's theme is March Madness and the 3 of us decided to continue the theme for our 4th week and collectively choose The Rocky Horror Picture Show from 1975 Directed by Jim Sharman and created by Richard O'Brien! Well...Jensen begrudgingly pulled it out of the Body Bag, but nonetheless, we're here. We talked about a lot of people singing all at once, Tim Curry being the sexiest human alive, and the fact that Courtney and Britt would like to get their eyes spat in by him. For real, this is the horniest episode we have ever done! You don't want to miss the outro either! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thefrightcrew/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thefrightcrew/support
Stage productions, especially musicals, have been turned into very successful movies. CHICAGO (2002) is a perfect example of that. Well, one such production was a wink-and-a-nod to horror and science fiction of yesteryear and was turned into a movie in 1975. That film, ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, unfortunately was received all not that well during its immediate release. But a 20th Century Fox executive had the idea to turn it into a midnight movie. And from there, it became an instant hit and now is considered a classic film. One night when a young couple, Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), get lost in a thunder storm, they head to a remote castle for help. Invited in by Riff Raff (Richard O'Brien), they meet the castle's owner, Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry). Unfortunately for Brad and Janet, the “good” doctor may have plans for the young couple which includes more than simply using the telephone. The musical stage show was written by co-star Richard O'Brien and brought to the screen by him along with director Jim Sharman. The film's cast included many from the original stage show including Tim Curry in the iconic role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. With the film's fan interaction during midnight screenings, the movie has become a cult classic and is considered an important film by the National Film Registry and the Library of Congress. Dark Discussions takes a look at this Patreon pick by listener Holly and gives their thoughts about the film and its significance.

It's time to give yourself over to absolute pleasure and dive into the decadent debauchery of Jim Sharman's 1975 cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show! Everything about this movie is iconic with good reason; the cast and music have stood the test of time. But does the story? Jaime does the research and examines a favorite from her youth while Eric experiences the movie in a whole new way. Special thanks to Ben for consulting on this episode! Only directed 5 movies from 1972 to 1982, and one short, Andy X, in 2012.) Original Stage Play was written by Richard O'Brien, who plays Riff Raff in the movie. Starring: Tim CurrySusan SarandonBarry BostwickMeat Loaf Released: August 15, 1975 Budget: $1.4M ($7.1M 2021) Box Office: $170M ($866.8M in 2021) Ratings: IMDb 7.4/10 Rotten Tomatoes 78%Metacritic 65% Google Users 87% (same as Trick r Treat) Still in limited release 46 years after its premiere, it is the longest-running theatrical release in film history. In many cities live amateur shadow-casts act out the film as it is being shown and heavily draw upon a tradition of audience participation. The film is most often shown close to Halloween. Today, the film has a large international cult following and has been considered by many as one of the greatest musical films of all time. It was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2005. First time you saw the movie? Plot:-I like that even the 20th century fox intro is changed to to musical styling-VERY obviously an homage to B horror/science fiction-The intro lips were Patricia Quinn, Magenta in the movie.-I love all the things going on in the background through damnit Janet. Very much a stage play.-Its set in the 70's, but Brad and Janet are dressed in the 50's to show their naïvety-Is the time warp one of the most fun songs of all time?-Time warp is the whole reason I would want to play Riff Raff. It's the best song. Even the narrator gets into it.-I love that they were leaving but Frank pulled them back in.-Tim Currys look into the camera, when he says how quaint-Think science will ever be able re-animate human bodies?-This is the perfect movie for Meat Loaf.-Tim Currys little facial tics and movements really make the character-So Frank impersonating Brad, you'd think that would cause some issues today. Also, if shes "saving herself," and was so upset that he lied, she turned on that idea pretty quick with a "you promise you wont tell Brad"-I love the same dialog with Brad and Janet.-Susan Sarandon has some great boobs-Dr Scott gets around pretty good on only that wheelchair. Also, like how when he's going up the stairs, you can see the wire pulling him.-Its funny how "normal" the dinner is. Frank cutting the ham, pouring drinks, etc.-That super fake Eddy body is awesome-The medusafier makes them statues that are naked. Noice-Who is throwing the switches during the floor show?-Rocky is obviously not a dancer-I like during Franks apology/explanation, he's not wearing much make up, showing his true self.-The laser sound is hilariously terrible Web: https://theguysreview.simplecast.com/EM: theguysreviewpod@gmail.comIG: @TheGuysReviewPodTW: @The_GuysReviewFB: https://facebook.com/TheGuysReviewPod/YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYKXJhq9LbQ2VfR4K33kT9Q Please, subscribe, rate and review us wherever you get your podcasts from!!Thank you,-The Guys

linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema It's once again time for Catching Up On Cinema's 3rd annual, “Kyle's Killer October” event month! This year's theme is horror musicals, with our first review this month being Jim Sharman's, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)! Originally a stage production created by Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff), and critically despised during it's original theater run, the film is widely regarded as the quintessential cult/midnight film. Starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, the aforementioned Richard O'Brien and a brief turn by a then nascent Meat Loaf, the film is a raucous and often hilarious experience that was massively ahead of it's time in a variety of ways. A massive cultural touchstone for many, the film enjoys a nigh legendary reputation among those within and adjacent to the LGBTQ+ community, and continues to be screened in theaters worldwide on a consistent basis. Shirley Germain was Opera Australia’s wig-mistress for 38 years. Her husband, John Germain, was a revered singer with the Company for 40 years, performing many of the great Baritone roles.Commencing her career as a hairdresser, she found that the Opera Company was looking for someone to oversee the preparation and maintenance of the many wigs required in production. It was the second year of its existence. Already associated with the Company, through her husband, the role seemed a perfect fit.The young company made do in various venues around Sydney until 1973 when Opera Australia made the Sydney Opera House its new home. Shirley has been in the unique position of having had a ‘front-row seat’, observing the company grow and triumph over several decades. She has worked with the greats of the Opera World, and counted many of them as her close friends. Shirley has contributed enormously in her preparation, styling and care of the 'heads' of the characters in Opera. This unique artistry is of paramount importance to the success of a production, contributing to the aesthetics and allowing a singer to take the stage with confidence and character. It is a role Shirley has relished and we are indeed privileged to have access to her experience and anecdote in this delightful episode of Stages. The Stages podcast is available from Apple podcasts, Spotify, Whooshkaa and where all good podcasts are found.

For five decades, Brian Thomson has been one of Australia’s most influential designers. He started his career in close collaboration with the director Jim Sharman and created designs for three of the biggest rock musicals of all time: Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair and The Rocky Horror Show. In the years since, he’s had an extraordinarily varied career, working on projects ranging from small-scale indie theatre to the biggest live performance events in the world. He designed the world’s most enduring cult film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and in 1996 won a Tony Award for his design for The King and I on Broadway. In this interview with our Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini, Brian talks about discovering his love for set design as a young architect and creating the extraordinary visual concept for our first Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, La Traviata. He also shares stories from his time as the production designer for the Sydney 2000 Olympics Closing Ceremony, and working with Australian icons.

Brian Thomson made his theatre debut in 1971 when he designed set and costumes for Jim Sharman’s celebrated production of As You Like It for the Old Tote Theatre. The tribal musical Hair quickly followed, beginning a succession of iconic productions constructed for impresario Harry M. Miller.Brian designed settings for the original Australian and London productions of Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show. He also designed the cinematic staple, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, a cult classic that continues to charm audiences through generations. In 1996 Brian Thomson was awarded the Tony Award for the Broadway production of The King and I. The production also played The London Palladium having originated in Australia. The Thomson resume is considerable recording a vast repertoire of work for stage, film and live performance. He has worked for many of the Nation’s major theatre and opera companies and in 1999 designed Kylie Minogue’s Intimate and Live Tour. He was a Supervising Designer for The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games also.A Brian Thomson design guarantees immediate transportation to the world of the play. His aesthetic is informed, unique and seductive. He is a prolific stage designer and it was our pleasure to record this episode of Stages and capture an extraordinary life in the theatre.

Her love of cricket lead her to an appointment as the world’s first female Cricket commentator. And classical music has sustained her through a vast array of experiences in a career that has rewarded and challenged. At the age of 18 she was accepted into NIDA to study Acting. This instigated her move to Sydney and a career as one of our favourite actors. Her triumphant theatre roles include The Lady of Camellias, Hamlet on Ice, Rooted, Insignificance and Kennedy’s Children. The great Patrick White spotted her in The Legend of King O’Malley and became an immediate fan which then began a friendship that lasted until his death. A heti témánk a kultikus Rocky Horror Picture Show 1975-ből, főszerepben Tim Curry ikonikus alakításával. A rendező Jim Sharman, az író Richard O'Brien. Utánanézünk a különleges film történelmi hátterének az eredeti angliai bemutatótól kezdve a film amerikai éjféli vetítéseiig, amelyekre éveken át tódultak az emberek. Megmenthet-e egy lehengerlő alakítás egy egyébként bénácska filmet? Lehet-e minden hibája ellenére őszintén szeretni a Rocky Horror Picture Show-t? Miben különböznek a Tommy Wiseau-féle The Room vetítéseire vonuló tömegek és a Rocky Horror Picture Show-ra vallásosan járó nézőseregek? Movie Addict HQ begins Halloween month with a Halloween Fun Fest featuring short clips from two of our favorite interviews. Through the magic of imagination and technology, guests Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff join the late great entertainer George Bettinger and talented actress/singer Lizette Amado-Bettinger in a lively discussion about which movie is the scariest one ever made. Next, actor Barry Bostwick – who plays Susan Sarandon’s naïve boyfriend in The Rocky Horror Picture Show – talks about the famous Rocky Horror midnight screenings with BlogTalkRadio CEO Alan Levy, one of the first fans participating in those unique events that helped make this outrageous film so successful. Lugosi is best known for his creepy performance as Dracula in the 1931 film of the same name, and Karloff for his scary monster in Frankenstein -- also released in 1931. Bostwick has appeared in over 100 films and television productions. He may be best-known as the clueless mayor on Spin City. However, he’s a triple-threat entertainer -- singer, dancer, actor -- who created the role of Danny Zuko in Grease on Broadway. The Rocky Horror Picture Show makes fun of B-movies, science-fiction and horror films. Adapted from the British rock musical written by Richard O’Brien, the movie was directed by Jim Sharman -- and Tim Curry made his film debut as the flamboyant Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Surprisingly, Rocky Horror bombed when it first opened in 1975, but those entertaining midnight showings soon catapulted the film into cult status.

In 1981, Richard O'Brien and Jim Sharman made a sequel to Rocky Horror Picture Show, one of the greatest cult classic films ever. The result wasn't particularly well received, but in time, Shock Treatment, the focus of this week's episode of Film Seizure, turned out to be particularly precient in how celebrity, power, and status would begin to rule over people's lives. Melbourne born soprano Maureen Howard was beloved by audiences and critics alike. At twelve years of age, she was a regular voice on the weekly 3DB Radio programme Swallows Juniorsand she later won the Vocal Section of television’s Swallow’s Parade. Though she studied singing from an early age, she wanted to be a hairdresser and, it was serendipitous that one of her ‘clients’ was associated with the two major theatre entrepreneurs J.C. Williamson and Garnet H. Carroll Management. A simple conversation during a hairdressing appointment gained Maureen a stage audition for J.C.Williamson at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne . They had just opened their production of My Fair Lady. The following week, the same ‘client’ arranged an audition for Garnet H. Carroll at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne and she was immediately offered a contract for Chorus - and later ‘stand-by’ for Marian the Librarian - in The Music Man. As would occur many times during her early career, Maureen went on in the star’s role. In April of 1961, she was cast in Lock Up Your Daughters with an additional song especially written for her character by the conductor Dobbs Franks. In August that year, she performed in Loesser’s Most Happy Fella with Inia Te Wiata and Ronal Jackson. Later that year, Garnett H. Carroll Management cast her as June Bronhill’s ‘stand-by’ in The Sound of Music and, again, Maureen was frequently seen in the role of Maria. In 1962, Maureen Howard won First Prize in the celebrated Sun Aria and left her contract for The Sound of Music. She was a frequent face and voice on television especially on the popular Sunny Side Up in 1963.After study, a year in Italy and then London – with the noted teacher Vera Rózsa - her operatic career started with Puccini’s Tosca in 1967 – starting her career at the top – with the Elizabethan Trust Opera. The production opened at the Perth Festival on February 11th and featured Reginald Byers and the Hungarian baritone Alexander Major as Cavaradossi and Scarpia along with the twenty-seven years old Maureen Howard. Her operatic debut was a success, with one critic writing “She may not be as imperious as some Toscas, but she certainly is more vocally secure than many … A powerful voice which is always beautifully controlled, and dominated the stage.”The same year, she performed Zerlina in Don Giovanni with a stellar cast featuring Neil Warren-Smith, Marcella Reale, Rosemary Gordon, Robert Gard, Ronald Maconaghie and John Germain. It was a controversial production directed by the young Jim Sharman. A production of Die Fledermaus as Rosalinda (and June Bronhill as the maid, Adele) was a hit with audiences. Next came performances of Venus in Tannhäuser, Tebaldo in Don Carlo, Liù in Turandot, Micaela in Carmen and the cover of Minnie in the Australian premiere of Puccini’s La fanciulla del West. Her career reached a new high with her assumption of Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly in 1969 with a new production mounted especially for her talents. As a company member, she was also cast as Felice in Wolf-Ferrari’s School for Fathers, Josephine in HMS Pinafore, Elsie Maynard in Yeoman of the Guard along with Giulietta in a concert version of The Tales of Hoffmann.Along with Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly, the roles of Nedda in Pagliacci and Musetta in La bohème fitted Maureen Howard to a tee. To many audiences, her performances in all three roles have never been surpassed by an Australian born performer. She created Musetta in the famous La bohème production by Tom Lingwood in 1971. “Maureen Howard’s Musetta stole the show … she has the wonderful ability for stance, stage presence and poise of hand which just fix one’s eyes upon her.” During the following season, she performed her first Mimi in the same production. Her debut as Nedda came in 1972 and she was usually cast alongside the Canio of Donald Smith – who also seemed ‘born for the role’. Sparks flew on stage when they ignited each other’s performances. “Maureen Howard was attractively wayward, singing powerfully in the final scene, yet making something tender of the ballatella.”From 1976, Maureen Howard appeared in various operatic and music theatre productions. Man of La Mancha and La belle Hélène were prominent during this time. Other operetta roles ensued – Kathy in The Student Prince, Eurydice in Orpheus in the Underworld, Violet Gray in The Belle of New York, Angèle in The Count of Luxembourg (with Robert Gard as her René), Ottilie Giesecke in White Horse Inn, Marianne in New Moon (with John Larsen as her leading man), Yum Yum in The Mikado and Phyllis in Iolanthe. She returned to Opera Australia for the role of the Foreign Woman in Menotti’s The Consul in 1986 after a decade hiatus from that company.A decade later, she appeared as a guest at the Robert Allman Farewell Gala at the Sydney Opera House singing the Pagliacci duet with her long-time colleague. This led to her being contracted Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s opera and the Witch in Hansel and Gretel. Her stage farewell came in 1998 in Sondheim’s Follies when she performed Heidi Schiller – singing “One More Kiss” to perfection. The career of Maureen Howard was as varied as the roles and styles she played. She was a Star of each medium (radio, television and stage) and was adored by a myriad of fans.

Hosts Briana Phipps, Alexis Torres, Christian Bladt and James Franck discuss The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 musical comedy horror film directed by Jim Sharman. The screenplay was written by Sharman and Richard O'Brien based on the 1973 musical stage production The Rocky Horror Show, music, book, and lyrics by O'Brien. The production is a parody tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through early 1970s. The film stars Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, and Barry Bostwick along with cast members from the original Royal Court Theatre, Roxy Theatre, and Belasco Theatreproductions. The story centres on a young engaged couple whose car breaks down in the rain near a castle where they seek a telephone to call for help. The castle is occupied by strangers in elaborate costumes celebrating an annual convention. They discover the head of the house is Frank N. Furter, an apparent mad scientist who actually is an a
Movie Addict Headquarters presents its annual tribute to The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a discussion of Fox’s new remake of that outrageous cult classic and by revisiting award-winning actor Barry Bostwick’s candid interview about his experiences connected with the original film -- including weather problems, what it was like working with Susan Sarandon, his favorite scene in the movie, and much more. Actor/radio host Chuck Skull has also been invited to participate in this special episode. Surprisingly, Rocky Horror bombed when it first opened in 1975, but those entertaining midnight showings soon catapulted the film into cult status. Hosts Briana Phipps, Jacque Borowski, Yael Tygiel and Lacretia Lyon discuss The Rocky Horror Show. The Rocky Horror Show is a musical with music, lyrics and book by Richard O'Brien. A humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through to the early 1970s, the musical tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the form of an artificially made, fully grown, physically perfect muscle man named Rocky Horror, complete "with blond hair and a tan". Produced and directed by Jim Sharman, the original London production of the musical premiered at the Royal Court Theatre(Upstairs) on 19 June 1973 (after 2 previews on the 16 and 18 June 1973) before moving to several other locations in London and closing on 13 September 1980, running for a total of 2,960 performances and winning the 1973 Eveni

We would like, if we may, to talk to you about The Rocky Horror Picture Show. We're looking at the film and the fan phenomenon.
