Drew Estate introduced the Blackened M81 cigar line last year which is a collaboration with Rob Dietrich, master distiller and blender of Blackened American Whiskey, Jonathan Drew of Drew Estate, and lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Metallica, James Hetfield. The cigar gets it name from the first track off Metallica's ….And Justice for All album released in 1988 and M81 which M is for Metallica and their founding year of 1981. All three had a major hand in coming up with the blend of the Blackened cigar. From Drew Estate about the collaboration: Dietrich and Drew Estate President Jonathan Drew have been friends for many years. It was Dietrich who introduced Metallica lead singer James Hetfield to Drew. The idea was floated about creating a cigar brand. From there, the wheels were put in motion to create a cigar that shared the vision of the Blackened Brand. Drew provided cigars from the Drew Estate portfolio to sample and Hetfield and Dietrich kept cigar journals to critique the cigars and identify what they liked and disliked about each one. Eventually they were able to settle on the flavor profile which was the Blackened M81. Rob Dietrich also blended the companion whiskey also called Blackened. Will Cooper also reviewed this cigar in the toro size earlier year and it made #21 on Coop's Cigar of the Year list for 2023. Vitola: Robusto Size: 5 x 50 Wrapper: San Andres Mexican Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf Filler: Pennsylvania Broadleaf, Nicaraguan Country of Origin: Nicaragua Factory: La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate MSRP: $9.45 Cigars purchased at B & B Tobacconist in Asheville, NC Final Score: 91

Jonathan Drew, Managing Director of ESG Solutions at Global Banking HSBC talks to Nigel Mattravers, Joint Venture Representative of Hong Kong-based New Life Plastics about the company's business plan to recover plastic and process it for reuse. Nigel explains how the fledgling business, operating out of Hong Kong's EcoPark, has identified a clear business case built upon an environmental need for its operations. With about 5m PET bottles thrown away in Hong Kong every day, mainly disposed of in landfill, the business has a clear supply chain and, with increasing regulation in the EU mandating the percentage of recycled plastic to be used in new products, there is also a growing market for the company's recycled outputs. Discussing both challenges and opportunities, Nigel shares his experience of being part of the circular economy and considers how other businesses and industries can join in the path to a better future. This episode is part of HSBC's Business Plan for the Planet podcast mini-series, which focuses on ESG insights. Hear from experts whose work is at the heart of sustainability-linked trends and opportunities, as well as from businesses that are delivering change for a better future for us all. This one is a monster pod. A guest I’ve been working to ‘get in front of’ since we launched the podcast, and a much-requested interview, this week’s guest is the biggest mover and shaker in the handmade cigar industry in generations. He’s a New Yorker who’s brought graffiti to a traditional industry and a man who has an unerring eye for raw talent plus a relentless work ethic. The business he created now makes more than a third of the world’s entire stock of handmade, premium cigars every year. Hard to pin down, a whirlwind of motion, this trailblazer continues to plot, plan and put into practice projects which continue to shape the luxury product market, particularly in America. In a fascinating deep dive, he talks to host Nick Hammond about the Life of a Factory; the cigar boom and being among it; Nicaragua immediately after civil war; challenging the established culture; the creation of cigar tourism; hip hop; street art, daily regimes and bringing himself to breaking point on the road. It’s the one and only Jonathan Drew, co-founder of the might Drew Estate. Happy Friday, Folks.
A fun and lively chat with Will McPhaul, a territory manager for Drew Estate. In this interview we learn about Will’s experience in retail working at Anstead's Tobacco Company in Fayetteville, NC. Will takes us inside the culture of Drew Estate and shares the creative vibes and attitude shared by many at the company, including Jonathan Drew. Learn about some of Drew Estate’s latest releases and virtual events, including the Barn Smoker happening later this year.
In this interview, Aric Bey, a firefighter in Chicago, talks about how he started his own cigar company, Black Star Line Cigars. Aric shares how persistence paid off in terms of recruiting El Titan de Bronze to help make his cigars. He also talks about the advice and guidance Drew Estate founder Jonathan Drew, Cohiba brand ambassador Sean Williams, and others gave him to help start his brand. He also reveals the story behind War Witch, a cigar made by Aganorsa Leaf that helped put him and his company on the map.

As our good friend Jonathan Drew might ask – what’s your raison d’être, your reason for being? Having said all that, watch or listen to our show below and you’ll either quickly learn or be instantly reminded of exactly what the TNCC brings to the table. So click those links and join the party NOW!!! […] The post Episode 89 – Sorceress (1982) / Highclere Castle cigar / Haze Wizard IPA appeared first on Tuesday Night Cigar Club.
