After IVF, the process isn't always over. For some, there is emotional trauma to unpack, physical pain to address, or spiritual questions to answer. For others, they struggle with the real concerns over what to do with remaining frozen embryos or how to tell their children they were conceived with donor egg/sperm. Where can you go when you need faith-informed support and healing? There haven't been many ministries focused on IVF healing until recently, with the creation of Shiloh IVF Ministry. This new ministry is focused on providing education and support for Christian and Catholic women who have been through IVF. Today, we interview one of their founders, Katie McMahon. NOTE: This episode is appropriate for all audiences, but does talk about sensitive topics related to IVF. GUEST BIO: Katie and her husband have carried the cross of infertility for the duration of their 20 year marriage. They currently have 3 living children, as well as 10 others who died in the process of in vitro fertilization. After a deepening of faith and a conversion of thought in regards to IVF, Katie has written a few blog entries for the Catholic infertility ministry, Springs in the Desert. She currently volunteers as a mentor for those carrying the cross of infertility with the Sisters of Hannah mentorship program through The Fruitful Hollow Catholic Infertility Resource. She has co-founded and now hopes to offer healing, accompaniment, and discernment expertise to others who have participated in IVF through Shiloh IVF Ministry.SHOW NOTES: To connect with Shiloh IVF Ministry: Click here!Want to learn more about IVF alternatives? The Enterprise Podcast now brings you recordings of our on-stage and live panels that took place at the Enterprise Exports and FDI Forum. Panel 6: Industrial clusters: A natural accelerant for both exports and SME development We look at whether industrial clusters — which have been used to great effect elsewhere — can be a way for SMEs to be part of a potential export-oriented economy. Our speakers shed light on where industrial zones are working for us already, how Egypt can leverage clusters to get a bigger slice of that cross-border trade, and how industrial clusters can bring together SMEs to work with larger firms. Participants: Shady Williams (LinkedIn), Managing Director, IDG Mohamed ElGebely (LinkedIn), Team Leader, USAID Trade Nada El Ahwal (LinkedIn), CSO, Transmar. Interviewed by: Katie McMahon, Managing Editor, Enterprise, and Hisham Abdien, Executive Editor, Enterprise. After listening to this episode of Discover Lafayette, you will not want to miss the Festival's activities which will immerse you in everything Celtic! Sheila and Tony love all aspects of their native Celtic traditions and delight in telling the story of their roots and why they are passionate about sharing it with Acadiana and beyond. The Celtic culture actually shares quite a bit in common with the Acadian/Creole culture we so easily take for granted. Tony explained that the Irish have a name for their own brand of joie de vivre: "craic" means enjoying good company, having a few drinks in a party atmosphere, singing and enjoying music, cutting up, dancing, and of course, eating. Who doesn't like that?? A little background: Sheila is first generation Irish-American and began Irish dancing at the age of four. She enjoyed a competitive career at the World Championship level and danced professionally with The Chieftains, a Grammy award-winning Irish group. (As an aside, the Chieftains will be playing in Lafayette on March 13, 2019, at the Heymann Performing Arts Center.) At the age of 25, Sheila was one of the first Americans to be invited to perform with Riverdance, a theatrical show consisting mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. She directed and produced “Dancing at the Crossroads”, an instructional video, starring fellow Riverdance performers. The video has since become a staple study guide for those dancers wishing to be certified in Irish dance. Currently, Sheila directs Camp Rince Ceol held each summer in California and New York and teaches Irish dance classes in Metairie and Lafayette. Visit https://irishdancecamp.com for more information. Tony Davoren, known as "The Irish Guy," is from Wicklow, Ireland. He began his singing career with the Celtic Irish choral group Anuna and also toured with Riverdance. He has appeared at the Radio City Music Hall and performed for the Prince of Wales at The Albert Hall in London. Tony has recorded with Sting, The Chieftains, and Sinead O’Connor. He is also featured on two Grammy Award-winning recordings: “The Long Black Veil” and “Riverdance the Show." He directed the music for “Dancing at the Crossroads” and has produced recordings for Irish soloists Katie McMahon and Dave Donohue. Tony and Sheila first met while performing in Riverdance the Lee Company. Their mutual love of music, dance and enjoying their Irish culture drew them together and they were married in 2002. After falling in love with Acadiana after visiting several times while on break from tours, they viewed South Louisiana as their cherished getaway. In 2003, tiring of the frigid temperatures they endured in New York, they purchased property in Sunset while on a visit to attend Festival International. The Davorens still live in Sunset today with their three children. The 2020 Celtic Bayou Festival features musical performances by traditional Celtic bands, unique events such as the Lenten Crawfish Boil, Guinness Cook-Off Competition sponsored by Rader Solutions, Bailey’s Bake-Off Competition, Jameson Pub Crawl, a Genealogy tent for Acadiana people to trace their Celtic roots, and more. Visit http://www.celticbayoufest.com for a complete listing of events and attractions. Celtic Bayou Festival is a non-profit, 501 c3 organization and relies on community support in order to share their lovely Celtic traditions. Please consider supporting CBF with a donation. There is a lot of focus on the big voice platforms from Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Apple, but what about the independent platforms that will challenge the status quo? Voicebot sat down with SoundHound's Katie McMahon to hear about a different approach to voice engagement. Whereas the big platforms set their own rules and you are along for the ride, Hound is offering creators control over their content and user relationships.

This Week’s Celtic Christmas Music "Christmas Waltz" by The Brigands' Folie from Twain Brigands' Folie is an exciting acoustic duo playing traditional Irish, Scottish, English, and colonial American music together around the Midwest since 2005. The band's mission is to educate the public about the lives and stories of 18th & 19th Century settlers, soldiers, and sailors through music of the period. "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" by The Gothard Sisters from Christmas The Gothard Sisters are three young Celtic and classical musicians who write new arrangements of traditional celtic and christmas favorites. They are emerging young artists and dancers from the pacific northwest and play several instruments each, creating a warm sound of acoustic progressive celtic-classical folk. "Winter's Day" by Mithril from Winter's Day Mithril's unique progressive style has its roots in traditional Celtic music but moves far beyond that, weaving such diverse influences as American folk, classical, and Middle Eastern melodies in...to their full tapestry of sound. "On Christmas Night" by Cherish the Ladies from On Christmas Night Celebrating 28 Years of Music Making, Cherish the Ladies is an American all-female Irish-American super group. The band began as a concert series in New York in January 1985, the brainchild of Mick Moloney who wanted to showcase the brightest female musicians in America in what had been a male-dominated scene. The series opened to sold out concerts. Under the leadership of the dynamic and irrepressible Joanie Madden on flutes and whistles, they have grown from a one-time concert concept to an Irish traditional music sensation and are the most successful and sought after Irish-American group in Celtic music. "Christmas day in the morning/I saw three ships/On Christmas night/New years day" by Bonnie Rideout from A Scottish Christmas, The Celebration Bonnie Rideout is an award winning Scottish fiddler. On stages from Scotland’s Edinburgh International Festival to America’s Kennedy Center, Bonnie Rideout’s unique style of Scottish fiddling has charmed audiences across the globe. Bonnie has been featured on the BBC, CBS, NPR’s Performance Today, and Morning Edition. Her A Scottish Christmas CD became a New York Times “Top Ten Holiday Best Seller”. Its success prompted a touring show that has sold out halls across North America for over a decade. In 2007, the Mel Bay Publishing Company credited Bonnie as one of America’s top ten most influential traditional fiddlers of the 20th century. "Have You Heard" by The Irish Rovers from Merry Merry Time Of Year The Irish Rovers is a Canadian Irish folk group created in 1963 and named after the traditional song "The Irish Rover." The group is best known for their international television series, contributing to the popularization of Irish Music in North America. All band members hail from Ireland, however the group was formed in Toronto, Canada. Since then there have been over 40 albums in North America with more internationally. “Have You Heard” is a beautiful Christmas tune with an old world sound, but like with all the Irish Rovers songs, you’ll want to sing along. It’s written by George Millar who has written most of the Rovers’ original music over the years. "Christmas Pipes" by Katie McMahon from Celtic Christmas Katie McMahon is an Irish singer from Dublin. She was a soloist with the original Riverdance troupe. Her recordings have largely featured traditional Irish songs, occasionally in the Irish language. She has released five critically acclaimed solo CDs: After the Morning, Shine, Celtic Christmas, St. Patrick's Day and Christmas Angels.
