Talking about money being easy might not resonate with you. Many of us women don't have an identity with money. What I mean is that our identity isn't a picture of freedom and power when it comes to money. I get that. For those of us that now have freedom and power around money, it wasn't always that way. Making money is a journey. It's a series of very small steps that eventually lead us to become masters of our money.I loved talking to this week's guest, because the way she talks about money I would never have guessed that she wasn't always good with money. Join my conversation with Liz Carroll, creator of the Mindful Money Method, a financial wellness course and coaching program that offers a new way of thinking about money.Liz is a Certified Financial Coach from Ramsey Solutions, a Certified Life Coach from The Life Coach School and a 200-RYT Yoga & Meditation Instructor from Purna Yoga College. She has the unique ability to shed light onto darkness around money, making complex personal finance issues simple. Seán Cleland is an Irish fiddle player, Irish music teacher, adjudicator, collaborator, producer and executive director of the Irish Music School of Chicago, a non-profit traditional Irish music, language, song and dance school, which he founded in 2003.Seán grew up on the North side of Chicago in an Irish-American household. He started classical violin lessons at age 7, and at age 9 his parents took him to one of the first North American concert tours of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Ireland's national music organization. The performers that fall night in 1972 were the absolute best traditional musicians, singers and dancers from Ireland including Paddy Glackin, Paddy Ryan and Antoin MacGabhann. That night was so impactful that he decided right then and there that he would play the fiddle. His musical education through the 1970s was energized by such local legends as Liz Carroll, Michael Flatley and Jimmy Keane who were bursting out of Chicago onto the world stage. Additionally, there were quite a few older Irish musicians who had emigrated to the United States in the 1950s and Sean was incredibly privileged to get to know them and to spend so much time listening to their music and stories.Niall O'Leary TCRG, ADCRG is from Dublin Ireland. A former All-Ireland and World Champion, he founded the Niall O'Leary School of Irish Dance in Dublin in 1995, in the New York metropoilitan area in 1996 and in Florida in 2007. The School is currently the largest in New York City. Niall O'Leary performs regularly as a solo artist, in duet with Darrah Carr, and with various acts such as Natalie MacMaster,Cherish The Ladies, The Prodigals, The Andy Cooney Band, Atlantic Wave, The McCabes and Mick Moloney's Green Fields of America. He is in constant demand as a choreographer and master instructor and conducts regular workshops around the US, Canada, Ireland, Japan and Mexico. He has made a CD and an instructional video in Irish step dancing entitled 'Cuts from the Kitchen'. He was the founding chairman of Ull Mor CCE, the Manhattan branch of Comhaltas.Marty joins Seán and Niall to talk about the Kilgubbin Project, which is an ongoing exploration of Irish music, pushing the boundaries of what Irish music means, and plumbing the depths of appreciation and love for it as well.

On this episode of Strung Out we interview two great Chicago Irish musicians, Jackie Moran on bodhran (the Irish drum) and Seán Cleland (fiddle) both of whom teach at The Irish Music School of Chicago (irishmusicschool.org) and were part of the legendary band The Drovers during the mid-late 1980's, when Chicago was at the forefront of a renaissance of Irish music, dance and culture. But Chicago had an amazing role in the preservation and propagation of Irish music that predates such bands as The Drovers, Midnight Court, The Wailin' Banshees to name a few of the day. About 80 years earlier, one Chicago policeman, Chief Francis O'Neil, took it upon himself to save all the tunes that were rapidly being dispersed and lost due to the great famine and immigration. O'Neil went about hunting down Irish musicians and with the help of colleague James O'Neil, meticulously recorded note for note the melodies that each musician had in his or her recollection. This became the standard "bible" of Irish melodies and it can be argued that this single action, created in the Windy City, was responsible for maintaining the rich level of Irish music we enjoy today. Fast forward to the 1980's again, and the rise of such stars as Michael Flatley, a Chicago-plumber-flautist-dancer and schools like the Trinity School of Irish Stepdancing lead another wave of Chicago infused Irish music and dance. With amazing traditional players on the scene from the old country as well as new Windy City stars like Liz Carroll, John Williams, Jimmy Keane, Martin Hayes and many others, Chicago becomes the hotbed of Irish music. Rising through this rich soil of Midwestern Celtic Sound comes the Big Shouldered energy of bands that delivered a driving, devil-may-care, hammer swinging energy that was uniquely Chicago. That sound thrived throughout the 80's and well into the early 2000's when that era slowly ebbed away. What it was replaced with is up to debate. Which is the reason for the podcast.Martin McCormack joins Jackie and Seán as they play some of the signature sounds captured by Chief O'Neil and talk about Chicago Irish Music, where it has been and where it is heading.

Season One Finale. Natalie is one of the most sought after cellists playing traditional music today. She and Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser have toured as a duo for twenty years, wowing audiences at festivals and concerts worldwide with their unique sound. Their first album together, Fire & Grace, was awarded Best Album of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards 2004. Natalie has also toured with Mark O'Connor as a member of his Appalachia Waltz Trio. She and O'Connor premiered his double concerto for violin and cello, ¨For The Heroes¨, with the Grand Rapids, East Texas, and San Diego Symphonies. As a studio musician, Natalie has been a guest artist on over 50 albums, including those of Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, Irish greats Altan, Solas, and Liz Carroll, and Americana icon Dirk Powell. A graduate of the Juilliard School, where she studied with cellist Fred Sherry, Natalie discovered the cello at age nine. In addition to having extensive classical music training, she is accomplished in a broad array of fiddle genres. Her music journey found purpose when she fell in love with Celtic music at the Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School at age 11. Inspired and encouraged by director Fraser, she began to investigate the cello's potential for rhythmic accompaniment to fiddle tunes, and to this day, the two continue to resurrect and reinvent the cello's historic role in Scottish music. Natalie's skills as an educator make her one of the most in demand teachers at fiddle camps across the globe. She also teaches privately and in a workshop setting, and holds an associate professorship at the Berklee College of Music. Natalie now makes her home in Boston, where she is an active member of the traditional music scene. A particular highlight was performing Beijing Tv's televised Chinese New Year Special to 50 million viewers in the Water Cube. In her spare time, she graduated early with a degree in Violin Performance from the University of Michigan School of Music. She has taken lessons and appeared in Master classes with Rodney Friend, Stephen Shipps, Aaron Berofsky, Alasdair Fraser, Jerry Holland, Natalie MacMaster, Christian Howes, Dennis Wilson, Ellen Rowe, and Marian Hayden. The Real Estate InvestHER Show with Elizabeth Faircloth and Andresa Guidelli
In real estate investing, having more units doesn't always mean more cash flow. On today's episode, we talk with Liz Carroll about her intentional journey to financial independence through debt free real estate investing. We discuss the debt free mentality, the importance of matching your investing strategy with your lifestyle, and why she focuses on manufactured homes. Liz also shares the one question you should ask yourself every time you make a decision. Liz Carroll and her husband Dan are debt free real estate investors located on the Oregon Coast. They've built a multi-million-dollar portfolio in the last six years of 14 single family manufactured homes and a four-plex. They focus solving the long-term workforce housing crisis in their county. It's a win for all: the tenants, the employers, the county, the neighborhoods and themselves. Liz is a Certified Financial Coach from Ramsey Solutions, a Certified Life Coach from The Life Coach School and a 200-RYT Yoga & Meditation Instructor from The Purna Yoga College. She combines strong money and life skills with mindfulness in her coaching business, Mindful Money Coaches. She is the creator of the 30-Day Mindful Money Transformation. She and Dan live in the county they serve. Their adult children visit regularly. Liz and Dan bought their first rental house after 3 months of marriage. Liz was 22. They stepped back from real estate investing for a few years while their children were small and they were focused on our corporate careers. On today's episode, we discuss a ton with Liz, including: – Switching from leveraged investing to all cash buying – The power of asking what you want your future to look like and mapping it out – Stepping back in your investing journey to better align with your lifestyle – How to manage your mind so you can build wealth – The importance of intentional decision making Books/Resources Already Free by Tami Simon Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey The Soul of Money by Lynne Twist Free Gift Free Coaching Consultation Contact Information liz@mindfulmoneycoaches.com www.mindfulmoneycoaches.com MindfulMoneyCoaches – Instagram Looking for Funding? In 2006, foster mother Liz Carroll made a plea to the public for the safe return of Marcus Fiesel, the 3-year-old foster care in her care. From the beginning, authorities were suspicious. After an investigation, the police learned that Marcus was murdered by David and Liz Carroll, his foster parents. He was bound with a blanket and tape before being placed inside a closet without any food or water. After he died, the Carrolls tried to cover up their crime. By the early 1980s, “folk” was a four-letter word, and the Old Town School was nearly empty. Part four of the series explores how the school endured by broadening and redefining the meaning of “folk” throughout the 80s and 90s, under the leadership of executive director Jim Hirsch and program director Michael Miles. This is part four of a six-part documentary series on the 60-year history of Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, told through the voices and songs of the people who were there. Many of the stories featured were gathered in collaboration with StoryCorps this year, along with music and interviews from the archive in the school's Resource Center.
