PLUS: How can one be a slut for wontons? Wish Upon stars Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Elisabeth Röhm, Alice Lee, and Sherilyn Fenn as Mrs. Deluca; directed by John R. Leonetti. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Emily Connelly discuss how Judy Alice Lee narrates this action-packed space opera with skill. Ocean is a talented pilot and wicked shot working for the Korean space agency on the OHNEUL. Her best friend Teo's ease and flirtatiousness shine through in Lee's narration, shifting into desperation when his ship comes under attack. Haven is an outsider when he joins up on the OHNEUL's crew, and Lee's quiet voice reflects his thoughtful, cautious nature. Lee brings warmth to scenes of tentative romance, shipboard camaraderie, and many delicious meals. And when raiders attack, Lee ramps up the pace, making listeners feel all of the tension. In this episode we look at the role of the union in the annual TUC's Women's Conference held recently. We ask what is the importance of the Conference? And how does it contribute to the drive for greater inclusivity and equality within the POA? The episode also talks about the campaign for greater recognition of fertility and baby death issues. You can get advice and support from Tommy's, a charity that offers support to all women and couples through baby loss and fertility issues with expert midwives as well as an online community: https://www.tommys.org/about-us/contact-us?msclkid=822cb93753ab10012421df095be01159. Additionally there are two cross government and civil service networks: https://khub.net/group/cross-government-working-groups-fertility-at-work-and-pregnancy-loss-and-death-of-a-baby The Civil Service Infertility Support Community is open to all colleagues who are dealing with infertility or undergoing fertility treatment, regardless of their journey stage or outcome. The group offers a confidential, safe space for colleagues to share their experiences and to hear from others on a similar journey. The community meets monthly, via Teams, usually the second Thursday of the month. Colleagues can join via Teams or by dialling in anonymously and are invited to share only what they are comfortable sharing. This can include just listening. This group is open to all people who are going through or have experienced fertility treatment, including partners. Contact Heather Wareing (heather.wareing@hmrc.gov.uk) for more information. Colleagues can also access a support conversation via your manager or through EAP support services on 0800 019 8988. One of the POA's delegates to the conference, Alice Lee, is also happy to share her experiences, as described in the podcast. She can be contacted through Jackie Marshall and Sarah Rigby as the NEC leads for this area of work, or directly at alice.lee@justice.gov.uk.

In this heartfelt segment, we explore the discovery of life's passions through the stories of Alice Lee, a talented young chess player, and Richard Arnold, an avid bowler at the age of 90. Alice shares how failure and occasional successes in chess have motivated her, while Richard emphasizes the joy of meeting new people through sports. The segment also pays tribute to the late Joe Cargano, celebrating his life with a memorial race at the race track. Friends and family gather to remember Joe's humble and generous nature, highlighting the importance of connections and shared experiences.
Meet Alice Lee, a talented 13-year-old chess player who is making waves in the chess world. Currently ranked number one among US girls under 21, Alice's journey in chess started at a young age when she was introduced to the game by her brother and father. Overcoming initial losses, Alice's love for chess grew, and she found motivation in both successes and failures. She appreciates the global community that chess brings together and the endless possibilities each game holds. Alice dreams of becoming a grandmaster and is focused on continually improving her skills. Despite her young age, she has already achieved remarkable success, including multiple gold medals at the World Youth Chess Championships. St. Louis, known as the chess capital of the world, holds a special place in Alice's heart, and she is grateful for the supportive chess community in the city.
Steel yourself. My Adventures with Superman is the Superman story you've been waiting for, friends. The new animated series (set to premiere on Adult Swim on July 6th and on Max the next day) is a joyful exploration, digging deep into what it means to be super. Not just from Clark Kent's perspective but also from Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane's points of view. My Adventures with Superman is a vibrant, radical, and passionate outburst. The cartoon is a relationship saga, beginning just as these three wannabe reporters find each other and as Superman bubbles into a glorious idea. The show is also the best Superman adaptation we've seen since the 1978 movie. Those are big words, and we don't type them carelessly. MY Adventures with Superman. Noodle on the title's first word. The creators are considering a lot more with this show than just killer anime-influenced animation, fight scenes, and reinterpretations of classic comic book concepts. They're going inward, encouraging self-reflection, and inspiring us to think a little differently about these characters we've loved for so long. In this week's episode, we discuss DC Comics' long, magical history with animation. Our conversation begins with celebrating Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which we just screened at the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, Virginia. We then review My Adventures of Superman, carefully avoiding spoilers while contemplating its thematic connections to Bruce Wayne's unique superhero journey. Ultimately, we chat with producers Brendan Clogher (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Josie Campbell (New Champion of Shazam), and Jake Wyatt (Steven Universe) before conversing with the actors portraying Lois Lane (Alice Lee) and Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid). What responsibility do these creators carry as caretakers for such titanic characters? Why does the world need another take on Superman? We get into it. Again, My Adventures with Superman arrives on Adult Swim on July 6th at midnight before hitting Max the next day. You can find Josie Campbell on Twitter and Instagram. You can find Jake Wyatt on Twitter and Instagram. You can find Brendan Clogher on Instagram. You can find Alice Lee on Instagram. You can find Ishem Sahid on Instagram. Before You Knew My Name: A Novel by Jacqueline Bublitz Winner of Crime Debut and Readers' Choice Awards—Sisters in Crime “A brave and timely novel.” —Clare Mackintosh, internationally bestselling author of Hostage This is not just another novel about a dead girl. Two women—one alive, one dead—are brought together in the dark underbelly of New York City to solve a tragic murder. When she arrived in New York on her eighteenth birthday carrying nothing but $600 cash and a stolen camera, Alice Lee was looking for a fresh start. Now, just one month later, she is the city's latest Jane Doe. She may be dead but that doesn't mean her story is over. Meanwhile, Ruby Jones is also trying to reinvent herself. After travelling halfway around the world, she's lonelier than ever in the Big Apple. Until she stumbles upon a woman's body by the Hudson River, and suddenly finds herself unbreakably tied to the unknown dead woman. Alice is sure Ruby is the key to solving the mystery of her short life and tragic death. Ruby just wants to forget what she saw…but she can't seem to stop thinking about the young woman she found. If she keeps looking, can she give this unidentified Jane Doe the ending and closure she deserves? A “heartbreaking, beautiful, and hugely important novel” (Rosie Walsh, New York Times bestselling author), Before You Knew My Name doesn't just wonder whodunnit—it also asks who was she? And what did she leave behind?

Although many presidential children have left a mark in one way or another, no one comes close to leaving behind the legacy (good and bad) that Alice Roosevelt Longworth left behind. Learn all about Theodore Roosevelt's sassy, smart and spunky first child, Alice. She was adored by many, treated like royalty and knew she could get away with doing and saying whatever she wanted. She had a color named after her, smoked on the Whitehouse roof and had a pet snake that she carried around in her pocket named Emily Spinach. That's pretty great. You either loved the beautiful young woman or feared her enough to stay out of her sights. Nothing and no one was off limits. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/curator135)
