Psalm 94:16-23 (KJV) Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? 17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. 18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up. 19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. 20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law? 21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. 22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge. 23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.
James 3-13-18 -KJV- Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you-- let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Red Heifer / 3rd Temple Christian Zionist Deception The real abomination of desolation has nothing to do with animal sacrifices, defiling the temple of God that is you. Four points to the podcast: 1. You're the temple of God 2. Must give yourself as a daily sacrifice that fits the abomination of desolation, 3. Big Pharma is evil in the EOD, 4. It is a seed war to steal your soul. Remember the 3rd temple is not holy and the Red Heifer in the OT represents Christ. So: • Christ was the ultimate sacrifice • If Christ is not in it, it is not holy The Red Heifer is a topic deeply embedded in the OT and represents Christ. It is described in Numbers 19:1-21. The people of Israel were to bring a defect- and blemish-free heifer that had never carried a yoke. The ashes of the red heifer were used for the purification of Israelites who had come into contact with death. The arrival of unblemished red heifers in Jerusalem is considered by some to herald an event not seen in 2,000 years. Orthodox Jews longing to build the third temple to reinstitute the Old Testament sacrificial system need red heifers to resume rituals. The concept of a “Third Temple” in Jerusalem does not appear in the texts of the Bible. However, for Orthodox and conservative Jews, the Temple in Jerusalem is central to their religion and coincides with their beliefs in the Messiah (AC). T In the New Testament, Jesus spoke of his own body as the Temple of God (John 2:19, Mark 14:58), telling the Jews that if they tore it down, He would build it again in three days. The only other actual, physical Temple spoken of in the New Testament is in Revelation 21 within the vision of the New Heaven and the New Earth. Scripture used You're the temple of God if a Christan: 1 Corinthians 3:16-17: Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. John 2:19-21: Jesus answered and said unto them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.' Then said the Jews, ‘Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?' But he spake of the temple of his body. Give yourself as a daily sacrifice: Romans 12:1-2 (KJV): I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. 1 Peter 2:5 - you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Abomination of desolation: Daniel 9:27 KJV 27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week (7 years): and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation (offering) to cease, and for the overspreading ("wing" or "extremity“ / extension) of abominations he shall make it desolate (abandoned), even until the consummation (end), and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate (wrath on the uninhabited). 2 Thessalonians 2:4 (KJV): "Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.“ You'll see the AC sitting in you.. Big Pharma is evil in the EOd: 23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. 24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. Rev 18 Seal 1. Rev 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow (toxin); and a crown (CV 19 Corona is a crown) was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer Seed war to steal your soul: Genesis 3:15: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed (satan's seed) and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel (Christ's). Last beast system is transhumanism: 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. Daniel 2 As the Days of Noah Seed defilement: 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect (not DNA corrupted) in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Noah generations were pure their his lineage dna. Don't fall for the Christian Zionism deception… It is not biblical.

CD 1613 “Living by the Cross”{Victorious not Viced}(January 21, 2024 P.M.) Frank Sintra sang about living life by “My Way”. The Eagles sang about “Life in the Fast Lane”. Many have sung it but I first heard Elvis sing about “living below in this ole sinful, where could I go but to the Lord! You and I know how to truly live by dying, by partaking of the cross! We have instruction from God's living Word as how to have life and have it more abundantly! Do you know what the Apostle Paul knew? This is the key to learning how to live abundantly:*Romans 7:18 (KJV) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. With that truth, turn to the letter to the Galatians. In this letter the Apostle Paul reveals 5 different deliverances we have promised to us as born-again children of God! Tonight we are only going to look at the 4th of the 5 he lists:#1 Evil Age (eon = long time - eternity)*Galatians 1:4 (KJV) Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world (age), according to the will of God and our Father:#2 The Law*Galatians 2:19 (KJV) For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.#3 Self*Galatians 2:20 (KJV) I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.#4 The Flesh*****TEXT Galatians 5:24-25 (KJV) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.#5 The World(cosmos = the orderly system)*Galatians 6:14 (KJV) But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. So like I said in the opening, let's concentrate upon the deliverance from “The Flesh” we just read as our text You might ask why is it so important to learn to “Live by the Cross”? Remember we talked about the cross of the New Covenant is God's Altar where we present our bodies as a living sacrifice! *1 Corinthians 15:23 (KJV) But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.Q. Who do you belong to, the flesh or to the Lord Jesus? A. It makes a difference when He returns as a thief in the night (1 Thess. 5:2)!Food 4 Thought: Someone once said “nothing has been taught until something has been learned” (see 1 John 2:20 & 27 the Holy Spirit is your teacher)! So let's reread our text:*Galatians 5:24-25 (KJV) And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.Note those who belong to the Lord, those who He is coming after have:#1 “crucified the flesh” #4717 (stow-ro'-o) to impale on a cross, figuratively to extinguish passions and selfishness!#2 “with the affections” #3804 (path'-ay-mah) emotions#3 “and lusts” #1939 (ep-ee-thoo-mee'-ah) longing for what is forbidden - to covet. We need to bak up and look at these works of the flesh so we will understand what we need to crucify, place on our cross - on God's altar:*Galatians 5:19-21 (KJV) Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery,

Today on the broadcast I will be talking aboutWisdom from AboveJames 3:13-18 (KJV) Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Ezra 4-1-5 -KJV- Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity builded the temple unto the LORD God of Israel- 2 Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you- for we seek your God, as ye do- and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither. 3 But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build an house unto our God- but we ourselves together will build unto the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us. 4 Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building, 5 And hired counsellers against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.--Romans 8-35-39 -KJV- Who shall separate us from the love of Christ- shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword- 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long- we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

How to Walk in God’s Power It is the 28th of December, only a few days away into the New Year. Today on 2 Empower U, Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach will share with you what it means to “walk in God’s power”. What does having a zeal for the things of God mean? How can you feed on the Word of God? How will you stay in communion and fellowship with Christians like you? These are all the things that the Pastor will talk about today. What you will learn can help bring you closer to God and His almighty powers. “Having a renewed mind is key in anything that you want to do in life. If you want to do things God’s way.” - Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach A Spiritual Hunger for God “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.” - Matthew 5:6 The kind of spiritual hunger that Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach will talk about today is the one that shows you desire for God. How eager are you to live a life filled with His presence? Are you ready to have God in your life – in all ways, on all days, and always? The Pastor will help you realize how important it is to keep your spiritual hunger for God high – because this is what you need to keep Him significant in Your life. Develop your spiritual hunger for God every day. Say this always: “Lord, I just want you.” Go after the Lord. How to Feed on the Word of God Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach shares with you three things that you can do to better understand and be filled with the Word of God. He will share with you his insights on how reading the Bible, studying and analyzing the Bible passage, and meditating on what your learned from the scriptures are essential for understanding, accepting, and feeding on the Word of God. “You can trust God in every situation. You can believe in God. But you have to feed on His word.” - Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach Communicate with God Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach encourages you to be open to God. Share with Him whatever is in your heart. When you talk to Him, God will speak with you and He will shower you with His wisdom. God is in a relationship with you, so you should always communicate with Him. The Pastor also wants to encourage you to listen to what God will tell you. Spend time with Him every day. Fellowship is Important The Pastor also wants you to know how important it is to be in fellowship with your fellow Christians; with like-minded believers. Being around like-minded people will result to a lot of good things. It helps you walk in God’s power. “Don’t become partners with those who reject God. That’s not a partnership, that’s war.” - Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach will remind you about how vital it is to choose the people you’re going to be moving around with, as well as the friends you connect with. Don’t hang around with negative people because this will not bring you to the right direction. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupts good manners.” - 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV) Who and Where is God in You? Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach will ask you: “Is God really the lover of your soul?” Your answer to this will determine who and where God is in you. If you truly love the Lord, you won’t be able to stop talking about Him. Confess to your friends and family that you are “the righteousness of God”. Confessing this openly means you are proudly identifying yourself with God. Praying in the Spirit “But, ye, beloved, building up yourselves in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.” - Jude 1:20 Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach wants you to know that prayers work, even in the most difficult situations. The Pastor wants to encourage you to always pray, especially in the Holy Ghost. Get into Action Pastor Thomas A. DeLoach wants you to understand that nothing good will happen if you do not put your plans into action, or if you do not “practice what you preach”. Don’t be contented with just keeping to yourself what you learned and discovered; set everything into action. -------- Let Pastor Thomas DeLoach know how this message has inspired you. Connect with him by sending him an email at info@thomasadeloach.com You can also interact with him by visiting and liking his Instagram page, https://www.instagram.com/thomasadeloach/ The pastor also has a website, https://www.thomasadeloach.com/ where you’ll find more information about ministry and advocacy; where you’ll learn about how he can help to empower you.

Samaria the capital of Israel’s northern kingdom was under siege. Ben-hadad, the Syrian king and his powerful army’s presence had resulted in a disastrous famine. Israel’s king was walking along a wall when a woman cried out to him for help. His answer expressed his sense of utter helplessness. I quoted from the New Living translation, but the Aramean is translated in most places as Syrian. 2 Kings 6 & 7 NLT He answered, “If the LORD doesn’t help you, what can I do? I have neither food from the threshing floor nor wine from the press to give you.” 28But then the king asked, “What is the matter?” She told a story of cannibalization that drove the heartbreaking truth of desperation like an arrow into his heart. 30When the king heard this, he tore his clothes in despair. And as the king walked along the wall, the people could see that he was wearing burlap under his robe next to his skin. Burlap In the Bible, whenever someone sought God with ardent desperation through prayer and fasting, they would put on burlap as a sign of their humility. 31“May God strike me and even kill me if I don’t separate Elisha’s head from his shoulders this very day,” the king vowed. I can only guess at why the king would blame Elisha for this nightmarish situation, but Elisha wasn’t the problem. Playing the blame game started with the first sin and has been repeated again and again when a person is confronted with a problem or a sinful consequence. You can't win shifting the blame. The king backed up his vow with a personal visit to Elisha’s house and his personal assistant. 32Elisha was sitting in his house with the elders of Israel when the king sent a messenger to summon him. But before the messenger arrived, Elisha said to the elders, “A murderer has sent a man to cut off my head. When he arrives, shut the door and keep him out. We will soon hear his master’s steps following him.” 33While Elisha was still saying this, the messenger arrived. And the king said, “All this misery is from the LORD! Why should I wait for the LORD any longer?” Chapter 7 NLT 1 Elisha replied, “Listen to this message from the LORD! This is what the LORD says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver.” 1 Kings 6 describes the scarcity of food by explaining what is available and how expensive it is; the price of a donkey head cost 80 pieces of silver and a cup of dove’s dung for 5 pieces of silver. In the midst of this kind of scarcity Elisha announces the availability of choice flour and barley grain. But not just availability, he is also communicating that the flour and barley will be available in abundance by telling how much it would cost…6 quarts of fine flour or 12 quarts of barley grain for 1 piece of silver. 2The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the LORD opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!” 3Now there were four men with leprosy sitting at the entrance of the city gates. “Why should we sit here waiting to die?” they asked each other. 4“We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.” What a hopeless situation! Or so it seemed. The was really true. If they sat where they were they would die! It was hopeless ONLY if they did nothing. They had no idea what God would do. 5So at twilight they set out for the camp of the Arameans. But when they came to the edge of the camp, no one was there! 6For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching. “The king of Israel has hired the Hittites and Egyptians to attack us!” they cried to one another. 7So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives. I just love this part of the story! This is a perfect picture of a boomerang. Intimidation had been a powerful tactic of this army, now God was using sound to intimidate them. Please dear friend, stop allowing intimidation to stop you. It is a strategy of hell to stop you from doing what God has called you to do; to keep you from believing God for your family; to rob you from the victory God has promised you. I want to remind you that no weapon that is formed against you will prosper. 8When the men with leprosy arrived at the edge of the camp, they went into one tent after another, eating and drinking wine; and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and hid it. 9Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let’s go back and tell the people at the palace.” 10So they went back to the city and told the gatekeepers what had happened. “We went out to the Aramean camp,” they said, “and no one was there! The horses and donkeys were tethered and the tents were all in order, but there wasn’t a single person around!” 11Then the gatekeepers shouted the news to the people in the palace. The King didn't believe 12The king got out of bed in the middle of the night and told his officers, “I know what has happened. The Arameans know we are starving, so they have left their camp and have hidden in the fields. They are expecting us to leave the city, and then they will take us alive and capture the city.” 13One of his officers replied, “We had better send out scouts to check into this. Let them take five of the remaining horses. If something happens to them, it will be no worse than if they stay here and die with the rest of us.” 14So two chariots with horses were prepared, and the king sent scouts to see what had happened to the Aramean army. 15They went all the way to the Jordan River, following a trail of clothing and equipment that the Arameans had thrown away in their mad rush to escape. The scouts returned and told the king about it. Finally! 16Then the people of Samaria rushed out and plundered the Aramean camp. So it was true that six quarts of choice flour were sold that day for one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain were sold for one piece of silver, just as the LORD had promised. Just like God said. 17The king appointed his officer to control the traffic at the gate, but he was knocked down and trampled to death as the people rushed out. So everything happened exactly as the man of God had predicted when the king came to his house. What are we missing out on because we don’t believe? The king’s assistant missed out on the food, the bounty that the army left and his life. Isaiah 53:1 KJV Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? John 12 tells us the story of an excited crowd that greeted Jesus as he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Verse 17 explains that many of the people in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb and raise him from the dead. They were telling others what Jesus had done, so crowds of people wanted to see Jesus too. In this context Jesus prophesied his death; then He exposes his heart in verse 27. “Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came! 28Father, bring glory to your name.” Then a voice spoke from heaven, saying, “I have already brought glory to my name, and I will do so again.” 29When the crowd heard the voice, some thought it was thunder, while others declared an angel had spoken to him. 30Then Jesus told them, “The voice was for your benefit, not mine. God spoke from heaven to benefit them, to bolster their faith, to reveal Jesus to them. Part of the crowd explained it away as thunder. I've heard people explain way God's miracles. Some of the more religious people passed it off as an angel speaking to Jesus. It was God, but many didn’t get the revelation of who Jesus was because they didn’t believe. Verse 37, But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. 38This is exactly what Isaiah the prophet had predicted: “LORD, who has believed our message? To whom has the LORD revealed his powerful arm?” Do we believe something simply because it is frequently repeated? Do we believe something because it sounds right to our ears? Or do we believe it because it IS TRUTH? John 14:6 NIV Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. What about you, my dear friend, do you believe? Lauren Dagle has captivated America’s hearts with her song, “You Say.” I would guess that you have heard it many times, but for illustration sake I want to describe what I see (Yes, see.) in her song. Lauren sings several truths that God says about a believer and then she sings a simple but game changing line…”I believe. I believe.” And I believe she really does believe what God says about her, that’s why her songs grips us like it does. But I’m talking to you today and I want to know about you…do you believe? So one more time I repeat the words of the mighty profit Isaiah. Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? Let’s pray.

Sometimes it feels like there is a war going on in our mind. There is conflict, cognitive dissonance between what God said and what we want to do as far as righteousness and what our flesh wants to do, which is opposite to the promise. Romans 4:18-20 KJV "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;" John 6:63 KJV "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." Galatians 5:17 KJV "For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would." Romans 8:6 KJV "For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
Romans 4:18-20 KJV "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. Who are God's people? The Jews? Or, do they include more people? (Isaiah 51:4 KJV) Who is a TRUE believer of Yah? Yeshua's (Jesus') explanation of a TRUE believer: John 5:46-47; 15:14-15 1 Thessalonians 2:13; John 3:16-21; 1 Peter 2:7; 1 Timothy 4:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:11-13; Matthew 21:32; 2 Cor. 6:14-18 Do people naturally obey the law (Torah of God-His instructions and His way of life) as Romans 2:14-15 seems to indicate? Or, are we lacking other scriptures to help us properly interpret Romans 2:14-15? "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His." (Romans 8:7-9) What does it mean to have a carnal mind? Jesus stated, ". . . he that is not against us is for us." (Luke 9:50) What did Jesus mean considering the historical context of the 1st century? How is one "not against" Jesus? What is the signifcance of John the Baptist doing no miracles (John 10:41)? Do miracles prove obedience?

Hard Verses Episode 6: He Preached to the Spirits in Prison (1 Peter 3:19). Wanted to thank Sam Cook for the Intro work, Jordan Gray (actually Don Garey, sorry) for the suggestion and Alan Caudle for the legal disclaimer at the end. The Problem. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:18-20 KJV Who? Who is the “he” in “by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison?” What? Who or what are the spirits in prison? What did He preach to the spirits in prison? When? When did He preach to the spirits in prison? Where? Where were the spirits in prison? Where did Jesus preach to the spirits? Why? Why did He preach to the spirits in prison? Sound Transition The Solution. The whole purpose of this section is to encourage the brethren about the suffering that was on them. I will give you two “safe”[1] ways to interpret this. Jesus through the preaching of the Apostles and others presented the gospel to those in the same condition as those in Noah’s day. They would be captive and dead in their sin but now multitudes will come to Christ. Eph 2:17. And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. –Jesus did not personally preach to the Gentiles but had his messengers bring the message. Could it be that Noah’s message to the lost was through the Holy Spirit, (the “in which” refers to the Spirit and not Christ) or that Christ would have been the one preaching through Noah? There are three major sets of beliefs with many subsets concerning this including our “safe” way to interpret this. A more recent view is what is stated by Pulpit Commentary. The preaching is in reference to men “alive after Pentecost to whom the gospel was preached by Christ through the apostles, men in a natural prison house of bandage to sin and Satan.”[2] An older theory that goes back to the third century AD, is that the spirits who are now in prison are “the disembodied souls of the people who perished in the Flood, and that the preincarnate Christ preached to them through Noah…”[3] The apparent oldest of the theories identifies spirits in prison as fallen angels. There are writings (unscriptural and uninspired) that indicate that this may have been the belief at the time of Peter’s writings. 1 Enoch predates not only Peter’s writings but even the ministry of Christ. There is additional support for this in that 2 Peter 2:4,5 and Jude 6 discuss the fate of angels and demons. There is descriptions of Christ being over spiritual beings. There are descriptions of angels and demons being reprimanded and subjugated. Spirit in these contemporary (inspired writings) is generally shown to describe the supernatural unless described additionally as human. Those early (uninspired) writers all point to the great transgression of the angels as occurring before the flood. (it may be common myth). According to Hiebert, this theory went into disfavor with the fourth century church. Back to the original questions. Who is the “he” in “by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison?” Most would agree this is Christ even if pointing to the antecedent Spirit (the spirit of Christ). What? Who or what are the spirits in prison? Disembodied souls of the lost at the time of Noah. (This does not go with other scriptures). The souls in that lost condition of those during the time of the apostles preaching. Angelic beings that were disobedient during the time prior to the ark. What did He preach to the spirits in prison? Disembodied souls lost at the time of Noah— He really could not preach the gospel because His resurrection was not complete. He would be giving them a second chance even though they rejected the message the entire century that Noah preached to them (not likely). The souls in a lost condition of sin. Preached the gospel to come out of that. They would be encouraged by this message (remember the purpose of this scripture). Only a few survived on the ark but many more are coming to know salvation through Christ. Angelic beings that were disobedient during the time prior to the ark. This would have been a proclamation of victory over them. Preaching is not always the gospel but can be a negative message. When? When did He preach to the spirits in prison? Disembodied souls lost at the time of Noah. He would have gone after dying on the cross and before or after His resurrection. (There is much confusion concerning the use of hell in the modern translations). To say that Christ traveled to the side of Gehenna (think of Lazarus and the rich man- the fiery side), would be to add to the word. Jesus stated that He would be with the thief on the cross in Paradise after death, not Gehenna (splitting hairs, maybe?). Where? Where were the spirits in prison? Where did Jesus preach to the spirits? Could the proclamation be made from heaven? Yes. Victory over death and the grave. All power given unto Him over all things including spiritual. Why? Why did He preach to the spirits in prison? Was He giving a second chance? To the already departed human and the disobedient angel, there is no second chance. To the men and women still alive, there was a second chance to not be like Noah’s generation that perished. Concerning the proclamation of victory over disobedient angels, this would have been in line with the proclamation that every knee will bow and tongue confess (Rom. 14:11; Phil. 2:10). This proclamation would also be encouraging to those currently suffering for Christ (remember the original intent of the section of scripture). The lesson for us today. We can draw encouragement from this scripture as well. Are we suffering because we are doing God’s will? Keep in mind who is ultimately in charge. Maybe we need to be reminded of the entire population of the world drowning in a world-wide flood because they would not take the time to hear what God had to say. If we are lost and still in our sin then we are in bondage to something we have no way of getting out of ourselves. We must heed the warning and obey the gospel. Call to action.
