Mark 7:1-23 That Which Defiles 7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[a]) 5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?” 6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.'[b] 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” 9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[c] your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,'[d] and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.'[e] 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.” 14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [f] 17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don't you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn't go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods clean.) 20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
In 1995, Alanis Morisette changed the rules of rock and roll forever — paving the way for female voices overdue for a mainstream platform. Mark 7:5: “Why do your disciples eat with defiled hands?”This much misinterpreted passage, often preached in such a way as to make liberal or conservative Protestants more comfortable, is actually one of Jesus' most radical statements regarding the true nature of his mission and that of those who would follow him: to make all who are willing to embrace the Way of mercy and suffering love into one family in him, capable of being a blessing to all people.Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23: When the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around him, they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without washing them. (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they thoroughly wash their hands, thus observing the tradition of the elders; and they do not eat anything from the market unless they wash it; and there are also many other traditions that they observe, the washing of cups, pots, and bronze kettles.) So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” He said to them, “Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written,‘This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.'You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition.”Then he called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile.” For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”Support the show (https://www.episcopalcathedral.org)
We think a lot about hand hygiene a lot these days, and the same is true in our gospel. At the heart of the issue isn't proper washing technique, but instead tradition, cultural identity, and even life with God. Clean hands are great, but a clean...
After laying Albuquerque's ghost problems to rest and "reuniting" with their old friend, our monstrous friends finally confront Hubert Salazar. With the fate of the world at stake, the group takes measures to prevent Huey from having a chance at success. When the dust settles, who's left standing? Come find out on this, our final episode of Apocalypse Keys. Chase makes a phone call, Gai answers a call, Charlie's phone is gross, and Paul stops recording, on this episode of The Rolled Standard. In this, our (slightly shorter) penultimate episode of this arc, our monstrous trio finally makes their way back to Albuquerque from Silver Lake in an attempt to reach Hubert and put an end to his plans once and for all. With a little bit of "sleight of hand" Charlie finds an easy way into the sewers, and in an attempt to expedite the search, Chase reaches out for some guidance from his old friend and mentor, leading the group to a confrontation with two familiar faces. Charlie vomits, Gai Googles directions, and Chase throws a phone. All this and more on The Rolled Standard. With our new friend's ghostly interaction, our monsters are pointed to Silver Lake, Wyoming to get information from the last person who might have information about Hubert Salazar. Their new heading fresh in their heads, they pull Paul back into the team because, as Chase would say "nothing's worth doing if you're not filming it". After making friends at the lake, the boys finally find their mark, and potentially, the last piece of the puzzle. Gai unpacks Paul's room, Chase picks out a shirt for Paul, and Charlie finally makes friends...with Paul! All of that and more on this week's episode of The Rolled Standard. With their friend missing, Charlie and Gai call Noah to ask for help. Finding out there is another monster in the DIVISION's employ currently in Albuquerque that can possibly help them settle the problems, the guys find themselves working with a popular TV personality. After a small "exchange of backgrounds", the new trio travels to White Hills, New Mexico to get some answers from a familiar character. Charlie makes multiple calls, Gai does some unwanted remodeling, and our new friend, Chase, takes his shirt off, on this episode of The Rolled Standard. With a few potential pieces to the puzzle and a new, otherworldly heading, our monstrous friends make their way to Faerie to see a familiar face. With the help they find there, it seems the mystery is unfolding and the group finally finds time for a rest and to deal with some of their personal issues. In the morning, things get worse before they get better, far worse. Of course, Gai has a heart to heart, Charlie does a striptease(?), and Erix falls asleep, all in the same scene, this time on The Rolled Standard. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therolledstandard/support
Caught in another situation with people dead and police on their way, our monsters finally make it back to the relative safety of their hotel. Grasping for keys, Erix struggles with multiple odd supernatural encounters, all on top of the strange black water showing up once again. With these strange occurrences piling up they decide to make a call to their handler, Noah, who helps put the pieces together. Otherwise, Erix plunges a toilet, Charlie reads some Spanish, and Gai laughs until he cries, this week on The Rolled Standard. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therolledstandard/support
Finding themselves between a rock and a hard place, our monsters get split up. While Erix and Charlie have a moment, Gai finds himself under fire, literally. Worrying for their friend, the other two take off to find a harrowing scene. Surrounded by enemies and Gai nowhere in sight, Charlie takes drastic measures to eliminate the immediate threats. As always, Gai "drives a car", Erix "flies a kite", and Charlie gains, and shortly after, loses some weight. You'll see what I mean in this episode of The Rolled Standard. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therolledstandard/support
In our second episode of Apocalypse Keys we witness our monstrous friends' confidence start to falter. With Charlie sure that he can pull information from a general of the local street gang, things take a turn for the worse when he starts to lose control. It seems their investigation may be falling apart before they even get started. Gai steals a car, Erix calms himself down, and Charlie works on some deconstruction. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therolledstandard/support
In our newest adventure, our three monsters, Erix, Charlie, And Gai, make their way to Albuquerque, New Mexico to investigate a series of potentially supernatural murders within the homeless community there. After sorting through some background information and setting the scene, the boys are on their way. So as usual, Erix throws a pen, Gai gets interested in music, and Charlie smokes a cigarette. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therolledstandard/support
What are your thoughts on people tailgating you and seem like they are going fast to nowhere. Did they plan or did you plan. Keep your mind on him who helps you with you cleanliness and heart issues
In Podcast Episode 106, “Are Your Hands Clean?,” Kim discusses the importance of having clean hands and a pure heart before God. As the prophet Samuel was ready to say goodbye to the Israelite nation to whom he had ministered since his youth, he had some matters he wanted to address. He began his farewell address by making sure his conscience was clear before them and, most importantly, before God. Might today be a good day for each of us to see if our hands are clean and our hearts are pure before God? And, if not, might we choose to turn to God for cleansing? The primary scripture text for this episode is 1 Samuel 12:1-5, with the key verse 5: 1 Then Samuel addressed all Israel: “I have done as you asked and given you a king. 2 Your king is now your leader. I stand here before you—an old, gray-haired man—and my sons serve you. I have served as your leader from the time I was a boy to this very day. 3 Now testify against me in the presence of the Lord and before his anointed one. Whose ox or donkey have I stolen? Have I ever cheated any of you? Have I ever oppressed you? Have I ever taken a bribe and perverted justice? Tell me and I will make right whatever I have done wrong.” 4 “No,” they replied, “you have never cheated or oppressed us, and you have never taken even a single bribe.” 5 “The Lord and his anointed one are my witnesses today,” Samuel declared, “that my hands are clean.” “Yes, he is a witness,” they replied. ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: 1 The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to him. 2 For he laid the earth's foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. 3 Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. 5 They will receive the Lord's blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. 6 Such people may seek you and worship in your presence, O God of Jacob. (Psalm 24:1-6) Matthew 27:11-2624 Pilate saw that he wasn't getting anywhere and that a riot was developing. So he sent for a bowl of water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man's blood. The responsibility is yours!” (Matthew 27:24) Psalm 51 “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus” RESOURCES USED FOR BOOK OF 1 & 2 Samuel PODCASTS: “The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: The Complete Old Testament OT in One Volume” “The Tony Evans Bible Commentary: Advancing God's Kingdom Agenda” “Life Application Study Bible” “The Swindoll Study Bible: NLT” by Charles R. Female empowerment in music, for a long time, was a facade in the male dominated record industry. Sure you had big names like Janis Joplin, Nina Simone, and Joni Mitchell that have an ongoing legacy, but it was always an uphill struggle to be taken seriously, even for them. It wasn't until the 80s that women in music really started to break out of society's prescribed mold, adopting wild punk rock styles and living rock star lives, which used to be reserved for “the boys.” Rock music began to accept the likes of Tina Turner, Heart, Joan Jett, and Stevie Nicks and her astounding solo career. It was a definite push forward for women in the media landscape, but by 1995, and after the advent of alternative music, feminism in music needed a different approach. When you take off all the glam and glitz of the 80's, but keep its feminist edge, what do you have? The answer is Alanis Morissette. With two semi-successful albums already released on MCA Records Canada, and having done some acting before the music, Alanis was well aware of how the entertainment industry worked. Going what she had gone through as a child actor and eventual singer, Alanis knew better than anyone that women weren't yet being treated with the dignity they deserved, herself being involved in a predatory relationship with a Canadian record exec (referenced in the song “Hands Clean”) and a questionable relationship with Dave Coulier (infamously referenced in the song “You Oughta Know”). After all of her experiences and diminishing interest in her pop past, she was ready to show the world how fed up she was—with the sexism, with the predatory practices, and with the whole pop aesthetic. With “Jagged Little Pill,” Alanis, and cowriter/producer Glen Ballard, rewrote the rules on what was acceptable for a female pop/rock artist in the record industry, opening the door for the next generation of strong female pop/rock artists like Shakira, Michelle Branch, and Avril Lavigne. Join Brad, Dave, Jon, and a very special guest and badass feminist, Brad's mother, Pamela Siemens, as they break down the alt 90s angst! COMING UP: (08-31-20) J. Fresh back from Cali last night. 2 times in 2 weeks. It was already written. This time I took my family with me. Handled some business. Faced some fears and demons. Hit up Vegas for the luxury. My son will be 16 this month and I wanted to treat him. I landed last night and went directly to MY healer's house. I do not have all the answers and sometimes I need help. The energy has to be one bigger than mine. This is how we learn. One thing I always try to do is keep my hands clean. I don't want any loose ends or ill will. Things are getting too serious now. Crunch time. I am thankful.

I went on a hunt for various sounds and soundscapes. I wanted to record what we here on this festival of performance and spacial design, to get an impression on what role sound might play in contemporary scenography, and in our experience of space and reality. What is special in the experience of a space through sound and can the time asking presentation of an audio recording, compete with the instantaneousness of the digital image?

Opening episode introducing 'Chronicles of the Pure' podcast. There is one virtue that is undeniable for those who have a sincere walk with the Lord Jesus, which is, simply, dedication to Him above all else. Biblically, this principle is called holiness. Simply meaning being set apart in submission to the Lord. This is not an easy journey. Chronicles of the Pure is dedicated to reflecting on the principles of holiness and practicing it daily.
Have you ever heard someone say, "God allowed that in the Bible?" They didn't understand that culture doesn't negate God's command. We can live and adopt different things in our society. However, God's law is greater and consequences come as a result of doing things our way. We must remain unstained from the world and how we treat others. Click to listen to Jacob's saga.

Under Rug Swept by Alanis Morrisette. Alanis' fifth album is a huge step up from Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie. There are some very good, very moving songs on this one—and thank god she decided to make it shorter than 27 songs. There are still things to quibble over here, and still some missteps, but this album definitely has some of the best songs Alanis has written to date. Listen along to Under Rug Swept on Spotify here! WLRN's edition 23 on the #METOO movement and rape culture begins with world headlines presented by Sekhmet She Owl followed by "Hands Clean" by Alanis Morissette, a song about a 14 year old girl who was raped by a music exec . Next, you'll hear an interview clip of Jyssica Schwartz jyssicaschwartz.com/ talking about her new book coming out on March 14th called You Are Not Alone, inspired by the #METOO movement. Next, you'll hear interviews with Shelly Ruzicka & Rocio Caravantes of the organization Arise Chicago Workers' Rights Center followed by the song "Ni Una Menos" by Angela Leiva in Spanish. Rocio talks about her experiences as an immigrant worker and cases of abuse she experienced at work. Here is a video they made called Out of the Shadows www.youtube.com/watch?v=AH9cDcLzAQ0 that sheds light on the discussion of sexual harassment at the workplace. Finally, WLRN's Julia Beck rounds off the hour with her passionate & amazing commentary analyzing rape culture and making an appeal to to end it. Masiela is not only an actress, but she is also an author and a great cook as well. A new book titled The Living Air that touches on the topics of talk love, marriage, family and finding your true self. It is already available on Amazon, Masiela Lusha’s poems are missives from inner space—heartfelt, evocative lyrics of immediate presence. “A poet is a lonely collector,” Lusha writes, inviting readers to walk with her “Where the streets are thin / And the world is tight around me.” The Living Air is alive with “alphabets of experience” that celebrate the journey of our lonely (and necessary) collecting. She is best known from her first major role as Carmen Consuela Lopez on the ABC’s globally syndicated sitcom George Lopez; a role which earned her two consecutive Young Artist Awards for Leading Young Actress in a Comedy or Drama. She immigrated to America with her mother at a young age. English is Lusha's fourth language and at the tender age of twelve, Lusha began a modeling career in Michigan. After a few months of professional modeling and acting, a Hollywood agent discovered her from an open call. From there, she and her family moved to Los Angeles. Upon moving to LA, she did print work with Ben Affleck, was featured in a multi-national back-to-school JCPenny commercial, and starred in Alanis Morissette's music video, “Hands Clean.” Lusha’s transition into film include starring roles in Sony Picture's Blood: The Last Vampire and SyFy's television movie Sharknado: The 4th Awakens. Other projects include Anger Management (2014), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2006), Clifford Puppy Days (2003) Lizzie McGuire (2001)
LAW 26: Keep Your Hands Clean Have you ever scapegoated someone? Law 26 is about keeping your hands clean, a law which makes Jon uncomfortable. Together with Dre he explores why a scapegoat doesn’t always have to be a negative thing. Once again the need for subtlety and an understanding of the emotional needs of others is a key subject, with Dre and Jon discussing their views on being wronged and apologies and why being an unsung hero feels meaningless to them. Jon shares his opinions on free speech and why he refuses to tone himself down, Dre teaches Italian pronunciation and the pair share their experiences in sibling scapegoating. Finally they discuss how with this law, seeming vulnerable and as a victim can be beneficial, rather than the infallible power usually needed for leadership. This episode includes: Authoritarian regime – Putin and the FSB The importance of a scapegoat and how they can help to diffuse situations The connection between loyalty and the scapegoat The ingrained sexism of statutory rape cases Why finding peace with your own conscience is more important than being seen as a hero Celebrity scapegoats and PR-led public apologies The difference between a powerful refusal of apology and a sneering one Unacceptable jokes vs. censorship and repression Scapegoating in the office environment – passing the buck The ritual of apologies Social media and how being a victim can be empowering Mentioned in this episode: Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the Clintons - http://www.politico.com/story/2016/11/debbie-wasserman-schultz-bernie-sanders-scapegoat-230767 The West Wing - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0200276/ Hulk Hogan vs Gawker - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bollea_v._Gawker South Park: Miss Teacher Bangs A Boy - http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Recap/SouthParkS10E10MissTeacherBangsABoy Cao Cao of Han Empire China - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cao_Cao The unapologetic wisdom of Charlie Sheen - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/8359242/Top-10-Charlie-Sheen-quotes.html Cesare Borgia and Remirro de Orco - https://www.cliffsnotes.com/literature/p/the-prince/summary-and-analysis/chapter-7 Dexter - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0773262/ Donald Trump – “I grab women by the pussy” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHMAV2n0dV0 Ukraine and Holodomor - http://www.holodomorct.org/history.html Challenge: Blame upwards, to someone who won’t be harmed by it, eg. Corporate. Recognise when you scapegoat someone. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. Join us as we continue our 48 Laws of Power review, exploring Robert Greene’s provocative and compelling book, in which he lays bare the history, practice, psychology, and philosophies of power that ultimately shape all human relations. Often seen as a handbook for the ‘modern Machiavelli’, we take a closer look, beyond the hyperbole, and discuss how understanding and implementing these Laws can actually enrich your life personally, professionally and spiritually. Jon and Dre aim to get to the heart of each of the Laws, grapple with their sometimes disturbingly amoral nature, and discuss what the Laws mean in everyday life (often revealing their own experiences – good and bad – when they’ve either observed or transgressed them).
Lifelong childhood friends Tom Stewart and John Curren discuss Rober Greene's best selling book the 48 Laws Of Power - Law 26 Keep Your Hands Clean. This law focuses on finding a scapegoat rather than admitting wrong doing. This is counter intuitive to what we are taught as children which is taking responsibility for our actions. This law can be seen quite often in politics, work and military operations. Having a designated "fall guy" can save face for high ranking officials who might lose face if they admit a mistake. Kings had whipping boys who would accept the punishment on behalf of their king when they were young. Sin eaters used to consume food during funerals that absorbed the sins of the one who passed. Often while passing gas, we tend to blame others or the dog. ———————Find out more on http://www.aswiftkickintheass.comhttps://www.facebook.com/aswiftkickin…https://twitter.com/AKickintheasshttps://www.pinterest.com/akickintheass/—-Listen to the podcast on iTunes—https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/a-swift-kick-in-the-ass/id928326346
