The PNW has barely had a summer, but the Blue Angels make an unexpected cameo in this episode -- reminding us it is Seafair time -- and, therefore, we have a summer! Does it seem like crime has gone way up where you live? For some, even the nicer parts of town have gotten worrisome. Also in this episode we ask Coach Laurie an important question: who do we turn to to teach us how to spread love in these troubling times? You'll love her answer. We also discuss what a present-day villain looks like. Claire and Anna both agree that - duh - they wear black masks over their eyes and they sound vaudevillian. Or not.

The oceans of the world are safer for Americans and just about everyone because of our Navy. Work on the water can vary widely from day to day, and sailors have to be ready for just about anything. Today we Salute Lieutenant Dylan Jessum of the United States Navy. Lt. Jessum is a native of Sammamish, Washington, and he knows all about those daily trials at sea. He hosted an event called a “Day in the Life” during this year's virtual Seafair festivities to let future sailors and curious civilians know what a life at sea is really all about. Jessum gave viewers a glimpse into his daily life as an anti-submarine warfare officer and sailor. This 2015 graduate of the University of Washington, serves aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham. “I have always loved being out on the water and so a career in the Marine Industries made sense,” says Jessum. “The Navy was able to offer so much more besides a job though, I was able to receive a quality education, experience many different cultures, work with some of the most outstanding Americans this country has to offer, and have the satisfaction of working for an organization that demands you give your best every single day.” It takes thousands of sailors to run our Navy, and life at sea is interesting to say the least. For bridging the gap between the civilian world and the sailor's life, today we salute Lieutenant Dylan Jessum of the United States Navy.

In any other year, this would be Seafair week in Seattle. The pandemic wiped out most everything on the Seafair agenda, including the hydroplane races and the Blue Angels. Lieutenant Commander Adam Kerrick of the Blue Angels joins us on this episode of the Silvi Knows podcast to talk about what he'll miss most about performing over Lake Washington and what makes that airspace so unique. The Blues perform over 30 shows annually, but all have been cancelled to this point. Kerrick says the team has been performing ceremonial flyovers and staying sharp as they make the transition to new jets next year. Kerrick talks about those jets and what fans can expect in future performances. It's a quick fix for Blue Angels fans on this episode of the Silvi Knows podcast.

Missing hydroplane racing this summer? Yeah, us too! For us at Roostertail Talk it isn't quite summer without hydroplane racing. Due to the covid-19 crisis in the world most (just about all) racing has been cancelled this summer. For those of us in the Pacific Northwest, the height of summer always fell in that magical week between the Columbia Cup and Seafair. With both of those races cancelled there is a big void in the summer in the state of Washington. Join us as we share some favorite moments in Columbia Cups and Seafair Regattas in years past.
