She lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband, daughter, and cats. I am very excited to introduce this week's guest, as she is both a friend of the podcast and a someone I consider to be a friend full stop.  And that person is Katie Sinclair.  Katie is an independent producer and development executive, currently working at Blueprint Pictures, whose credits include Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, In Bruges, The Last Letter From Your Lover, The Riot Club and Emma, where she sources and develops projects for the production company's slate. She has worked in production and development for BBC Film, BBC Studios, Disney and Lionsgate. As producer, Katie recently completed The Last Days (wri/dir. Dipo Baruwa-Etti) which was filmed during the pandemic and was funded by BFI NETWORK and BBC Drama commissioning, while her previous short film Signs (wri/dir Yero Timi-Biu) won the Youth Jury Prize at the Academy Award-qualifying Encounters Film Festival. She produces under the banner Tannahill Productions and is committed to developing and championing new talent.  We talk about how she pursued a career in development, what she learnt from working at BBC Film, our shared love of the Anna Paquin film Fly Away Home, why relationships are the key to pretty much everything, how she has built her confidence in her taste and opinion, the difference between working in development for a production company as opposed to a public funder, the art of giving feedback and why the key is asking questions rather than supplying solutions and her producing ethic and storytelling sensibilities and why it comes down to empathy and care.  Enjoy!

Best-selling author Jojo Moyes stops by to talk about the film adaptation of her novel, The Last Letter From Your Lover.  Adapted from Jojo Moyes' best-selling novel, THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER is a passionate, dual-narrative love story set in the French Riviera and London during the 1960s and present day. It tells the tale of elegant Jennifer Stirling (Shailene Woodley) and how her life becomes inextricably interwoven with that of Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones) in life-changing events which connect them across almost half a century. Jennifer lives a luxurious life with her wealthy and powerful husband Laurence (Joe Alwyn). When an unfortunate event wipes her memory, she struggles to find her identity until she stumbles upon wistful love letters hidden in her home. The passionate notes unravel a star-crossed love affair she had with foreign correspondent Anthony O'Hare (Callum Turner) and ultimately lead her to discover her true self. Jennifer's story becomes intertwined with that of Ellie, a whip-smart journalist in contemporary London, who discovers and becomes enthralled by these love letters from a bygone era. As she begins to piece them together with the help of archivist Rory (Nabhaan Rizwan), she sets off on a journey that will entangle the two women's lives forever.

A WORD FROM STEPHEN In January of this year, I had a stroke and spent time at Northampton General Hospital and University Hospital Lewisham. While in hospital, I experienced first-hand the hard work and pressure facing NHS workers. When I was back home, a writer friend of mine came to visit me. He suggested I write an account of my time in hospital. This could have a therapeutic effect, he told me, and it has. I also wanted to give something back to our amazing NHS, all those people who come from every part of the globe, who work hard and care for us, when we can't care for ourselves. I have therefore recorded as honestly as I can the journey of a stroke victim, some of my meetings with staff and patients along the way, and the humour and humanity I found on the hospital wards. Stephen has toured in many productions, including ROUND THE HORNE REVISITED (in which he played Kenneth Horne), and recently THIS HOUSE for Headlong and THE REMAINS OF THE DAY for Out of Joint. His many TV and film credits include, DOWNTON ABBEY, MIRANDA, SKINS, CIDER WITH ROSIE, RED DWARF 11, HATTIE, FANTABULOZA, THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, LITTLE LORD FAUNTLEROY and CHURCHILL: THE HOLLYWOOD YEARS. RACHEL ATKINS' recent theatre work includes, THE COUNTRY GIRLS (Minerva Chichester), INKHEART and ROMEO AND JULIET (Home Theatre Manchester). For television, she has appeared in CHERNOBYL, THE ROOK, HUMANS, and CALL THE MIDWIFE, and films include THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER and THE COUNTRY GIRL. Rachel has been a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company several times and was a regular in THE ARCHERS. She has recorded numerous audiobooks as well as voice overs for video games. DAVID HOLT studied theatre arts in Birmingham in the late 1980s, then moved London to pursue a career as a versatile actor in TV, film, theatre, radio, and as a voice artist. He has appeared in countless productions of all types over a 30+ year career, and is renowned for his animation voice work, having appeared in over 90 animated TV series. CHRIS PAVLO has worked extensively in the voice world. He has enjoyed four seasons with the BBC Radio Drama Company, with credits ranging from THE ARCHERS to news-based comedy THE WAY IT IS. He can also be heard voicing video games, commercials, documentaries and podcasts. Chris co-founded and runs THE PODCAST COMPANY, a production house for podcasts. DAVID SARGENT has been an actor and voice-over artist for 32 years. He shares a drama school and voice agent with Stephen Critchlow. He has worked in theatre, film, radio and television – most recently in PENNYWORTH for Warner TV, and the 2020 films THE COMPLEX and BRITISH PEOPLE.
