Nadeem was in a mood, so when tasked with picking a film that starts with "I", he went for 2000's "In The Mood For Love". Mita loves Glen Powell.
IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE mitverfolgt.
Zac and Amanda swap movies the other has never seen to shed light on each other's cinematic blindspots. Theme is: director blindspots. Sometimes it's movies in our blindspots, sometimes it's entire filmographies from certain directors. Two masters of the art of filmmaking, Wong Kar-Wai and Stanley Kubrick, make their way to the Blindspotters feed. Amanda watches Hong Kong classic IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000) and Zac watches dystopian insanity in A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1972). Writer, critic, and Hit Factory Discord all-star Jason Miller returns to the show to discuss Hong Kong director Stanley Kwan's 'Center Stage', an experimental biopic exploring the life and work of Chinese silent film star Ruan Lingyu who achieved an unprecedented celebrity before tragically taking her own life at only 24. Ruan is played magnificently by Maggie Cheung in one of her first "serious" (and arguably one of her very best) performances. The film brilliantly forgoes a traditional biopic structure, intercutting the filmic recreations with real footage of Ruan's handful of enduring film performances. From there, the film offers an additional layer of complexity by frequently inserting black & white interstitials of director Stanley Kwan and Maggie Cheung (as herself) discussing the life of Ruan Lingyu and the production of the film. As the film goes on, these distinct layers begin to fracture and smear, both emphasizing the unreality of the recreations and eliciting a deeper sense of truth to the real Ruan Lingyu that the film understands it can never fully capture. We discuss the way Kwan navigates his experimental form through the lens of classic melodrama (taking influence from the likes of Douglas Sirk) in order to create something that invites even as it antoginizes and provokes. Then, we consider the real Ruan Lingyu and some of her most well-known works (including 'The Goddess' directed by Wu Yonggang) and how the open construction of 'Center Stage' invites us to pursue further understanding rather than attempt to act as the final word on Ruan. Finally, we look at the state of the modern biopic and the furstrating lack on ingenuity and experiementation when approaching the titanic lives that these films consider. Follow Jason Miller on Twitter and everywhere else. Samantha reviews her favourite biblical western lovestory Redeeming Love, while Indy gets back into the world of Wong KarWai with a review of Days of Being Wild, and we get ready for In The Mood For Love and 2046. I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha & Indy Randhawa Redeeming Love is a 2022 American Christian Western romance film directed by D.J. Caruso, who co-wrote the screenplay with Francine Rivers. The film is based on Rivers' 1991 novel of the same name, which was based on the Biblical story of Hosea, and is set in the American Old West during the California Gold Rush. It stars Abigail Cowen, Tom Lewis and Logan Marshall-Green. Days of Being Wild is a 1990 Hong Kong drama film written and directed by Wong Kar-Wai. Starring some of the best-known actors and actresses in Hong Kong, including Leslie Cheung, Andy Lau, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau, Jacky Cheung and Tony Leung, the film marks the first collaboration between Wong and cinematographer Christopher Doyle, with whom he has since made six more films. In the Mood for Love (Chinese: 花樣年華; lit. 'Flowery Years') is a 2000 romantic drama film written, produced and directed by Wong Kar-wai. A co-production between Hong Kong and France, it portrays a man (Tony Leung) and a woman (Maggie Cheung) in 1962 whose spouses have an affair together and who slowly develop feelings for each other. It forms the second part of an informal trilogy, alongside Days of Being Wild[6] and 2046. 2046 is a 2004 romantic drama film written, produced and directed by Wong Kar-wai. An international co-production between Hong Kong, France, Italy, China and Germany, it is a loose sequel to Wong's films Days of Being Wild (1990) and In the Mood for Love (2000). It follows the aftermath of Chow Mo-wan's unconsummated affair with Su Li-zhen in 1960s Hong Kong and includes elements of science fiction.

Happy Valentine's Day! Mike and Nick shoot their Cupid's arrow at each other with two top romance films. Mike aims at Nick with seductive music and vibrant colours in Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood for Love (2000). Nick takes an alternative approach by depressing Mike into loving him with Michael Haneke's Amour (2012). Enjoy the compare and contrast exercise around two of the most romantic, but starkly different, films of all time.
Valentine's Day is fast approaching so we decided to get in the mood by watching Wong Kar-Wai's 2000 film, "In The Mood For Love."You know this is a sad movie but we had a good time talking about it because, in addition to discussing stifled romance, we also discuss: startling revelations about one of the hosts; this film's connection to a previously covered movie on the podcast; memories; books we hate; and noodles!Want co contact the show? We begin the Month of Crazy Stupid Love with a film that the Sight And Sound absolutely worships. The BBC Culture people do too. But we don't. We do RESPECT In The Mood For Love immensely. The actors are good and it's one of the best-looking motion pictures ever made. The cinematography, the sets and especially the costumes should have won Oscars, even though the film wasn't nominated in any of those categories. But, yes, there's certainly plenty to admire in this movie about self-imposed forbidden love as Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung deal with the pain of their partners' infidelity by falling for each other. Are these feelings real though or are the two of them just wallowing in that pain? We try to sort all of that out in Have You Ever Seen #490 as we also try our hardest to see what others see in In The Mood For Love. Cinematographer Cybel Martin believes that great cinematography comes from a place of trust between the director, DP and crew. Great art can be created when someone says: this is my vision and I trust you to make it happen. Cybel especially loves horror movies, because it's the best genre for cinematographers to try out visuals that are not based in reality. The opening scene always establishes the visual rules, no matter how weird. You start from scratch and play with how you see the story, and with a good script you can naturally visualize the world. Horror films underscore symbolism and dramatize emotions even more than dramas, and good horror movies still have solid character development even without a supernatural element. Cybel had the opportunity to work in the horror genre on the show American Horror Stories (Season 1) and most recently on the Amazon Prime movie, Black As Night. Black As Night is about an African American teenage girl who battles a band of vampires who prey on the homeless and drug addicted in New Orleans. Cybel wanted to lean into the richness, color and texture of New Orleans and was inspired by the thematic colors of purple, green, and gold. The new Amazon Prime series, A League of Their Own, is an historic drama and comedy about the first women's professional baseball league in the 1940's. Though the series has the same name as the 1992 movie, the production team never wanted to replicate the film. Their reference material was all of the historical research, photographs, and real stories from the time. Cybel is interested in 1940's films, sports, and female athletes so there were many elements in the show that she was excited to explore. She shot three of the episodes and her favorite one, “Over the Rainbow” features one of the characters going to an underground speakeasy. Cybel loves the idea of speakeasies and house parties- a place that is secret, where you can be bold, naughty and intimate, but also have a place for community. They shot the speakeasy scenes in just a day and a half, with two steadicam operators, and played with shutter angles and color palette in the dance sequences, with In The Mood For Love as an inspiration for the colors. As a painter and photographer, Cybel was also grateful she could bring her own aesthetic to the project. Cybel's latest project is Beacon 23, a new futuristic sci-fi series set to air in 2023. Brianne Tju has starred in series like Light as a Feather, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Scream, and plays the lead in the new Blumhouse movie Unhuman. She's broken barriers and had several “firsts” under her belt. But for her, seeing the films of Wong Kar-wai was a major first – the first time she saw complex romantic relationships between characters who looked like her. Then, Jordan has one (quick?) thing about Top Gun Maverick and the women sharing Tom Cruise's action spotlight. You can stream Unhuman on Amazon or AppleTV now!Aughtsterion's coverage of the I Know… finale (spoiler alert!)***With Jordan Crucchiola and Brianne Tju

Are you in a bad mood, or are you just quiet? Sometimes you're not in a bad mood, you just need time to be quiet and go into your cave. This episode was inspired by a particular night that we both had together. I was in my cave and was extremely quiet. I needed time to be alone, quiet and just be. I was not in a bad mood. I just required time. Patrick and I were inspired by how we both moved through the night with ease and much quicker than we had in the past.
