Immersion consists of the husband and wife team of Colin Newman, who you may know from the veteran English rock band Wire, and Malka Spigel from the band Minimal Compact. And Nanocluster is the name of a series of collaborations between the Immersion and various guests (Laetitia Sadier, German post-rock duo Tarwater, electronic musicians Ulrich Schnauss and Scanner, and others.) Vol. 3 of Nanocluster features the NY-based ambient country band called SUSS. The veteran musicians of SUSS - Pat Irwin (the B-52s, Raybeats, 8 Eyed Spy), Bob Holmes (numun, Rubber Rodeo), and Jonathan Gregg (the Combine, the Linemen) - combine pedal steel, mandolin, national steel guitar, and other textures with electronics to create their wide open sonic landscapes, (Swim). Immersion and SUSS play music from their open-minded and atmospheric explorations, in-studio. Set list: 1. Khamsin 2. In The Far Away 3. State of Motion
In onda Fabio Barbieri. Musiche: Giorgio Tuma e Laetitia Sadier, Ilyas Ahmed, Mary Lattimore, Roy Orbison, Oscar Jerome, Gia Margaret, Christopher Owens, Flaming Lips, Charles Lloyd and Jason Moran, Arve Henriksen.

Today on Line Noise we welcome one of my favourite musicians of all time: Laetitia Sadier, of Stereolab, Monade, the Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble and also a fantastic solo artist. I caught up with her in May when she played in Barcelona with the Source Ensemble. In the interview we talked about France, politics, not being a Marxist, religion, the age of Aquarius, water shortage and so much more, including her brilliant recent album Rooting For Love, which is out now on Drag City. Go and buy it; go and listen to it; and go and check out one of her gigs. Line Noise is with the support of Cupra.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week on the show: a conversation with Laetitia Sadier. As the main vocalist of Stereolab, her spacey voice shines as the human core in that project's motorik and dense avant-pop, a blend of electronic music, krautrock, space age lounge sounds, and much more. Outside of that legendary band, Sadier has been an active force on her own. She's appeared in a variety of contexts on albums by Common, Tyler the Creator, Atlas Sound, and Deerhoof. In 1996, she formed Monade, a solo vehicle, and in 2010, she released her debut under her own name, The Trip, on Drag City. Her latest is called Rooting for Love and it's out now. Joined by members of the Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble and a multiple voice choir, these minimalist tapestries, Brazilian glide, and propulsive ambient funk yearn for a kind of gnosis—sacred knowing. We don't often make a habit of quoting directly from album descriptions, but we can't resist sharing this bit: On Rooting for Love, “Laetitia issues a call to the traumatized civilizations of Earth: we're urged to finally evolve past our countless millennia of suffering and alienation.” Sadier joins host Jason P. Woodbury to discuss, among other things, discussion about taking care of our collective body; the planet itself, the radical potentiality of “love,” what it felt like to reunite Stereolab in 2019, her engagement with hip-hop, and reflections on working with The Trip producer Richard Swift.

Incoming transmission from Hopeton Overton Brown, better known as Scientist. As a protege of dub pioneer King Tubby, Scientist represents dub's third generation—at least that's how his 1981 collaboration with Tubby and Prince Jammy, First Second, and Third Generation, puts it. Originating in Kingston, Hopeton earned his nickname from Bunny Lee due to his highly complex mixing skills, who famously opined, "Damn, this little boy must be a scientist.” These days he's living in Los Angeles, where he joined host Jason P. Woodbury for this all-new episode. Prepare to cover a lot of ground, as we move from his origins at Channel One and Tuff Gong to divine messages, run-ins with Lee "Scratch" Perry, aliens and angels, simulation theory, his suspicions about modern cannabis strains, the digital vs analog debate, and much more. As broadcast April 4, 2023 with all praises due. Tonight we open in 1968 as we mourn the 55th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. All the words, all the praises, all the vile insults, and everything else have been thrown about this Hero of the People and Prophet of Peace but we can only give a kiss and point to the sky above to a man who changed the world with his martyrdom. After that, we had a ton of indie & underground cuts just out to tout, with highlights from Parks Squares & Alleys along with spill tab, JVLY, and Pebbl amongst others for the rest of the full two hours after we wiped away the tears.Tracklist:Part I (00:00)Dion – Abraham, Martin, and JohnPrivate Agenda – PresenceTyler, The Creator – WHAT A DAY*Emmet Kai – Hoolywoodspill tab - Window TOLEDO – Patch*Panchiko – Until I KnowPart II (32:08)Clairo – For NowPebbl – Space TravelEzra Williams – BleedDaydream Review – LeisureBuzzy Lee – When Can IGregory Ackerman – Don't Know Why I Loverainbow frog biscuits – Hide BehindPart III (61:20)JVLY feat Una Mey – tacitJVLY – ambienAaron Joseph Russo – Calzone44 Ardent – far goneOvermono – Good LiesPACKS – Not The SameVULPIX – Losing SleepPart IV (91:21)Lino City – Centerfold Blue Daze – The RancherSego – TANDANGParks, Squares, & Alleys – ShadowsPearl & The Oysters feat Laetitia Sadier – Read the RoomBen Jansz – Spirit Summer Salt – Supermoon

Last year, Immersion released Nanocluster Vol 1. The album finds the duo of Malka Spigel and Colin Newman quickly composing and recording music with names like Tarwater, Laetitia Sadier, Ulrich Schnauss and Scanner. Spigel and Newman – also a married couple living in the U.K. have their own impression back catalogs, as members of Minimal Compact and Wire, respectively. The former has been pioneering Israeli post-punk group that's sporadically reformed over the course of 40 years. In this conversation, Spigel talks pandemic productivity, production and a potential reunion. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

For the 150th Episode of the show we have the fabulous April March! In a former life April March must have been a rockier fairy than Tinker Bell and like a cat, she has already had several lives. An animator trained by Disney, she has animated for Pee-wee Herman, Ren & Stimpy, Madonna, worked on Archie Comics, assisted Spiderman creator Steve Ditko and even assisted the legendary Harry Smith who occasionally brought Allen Ginsberg in tow to mentor her. She entered the NYC music scene with her garage girl-group The Pussywillows, which Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes, promptly hired to record and perform with her. A year into her music career, she landed on stage with Ronnie Spector at a completely sold out Madison Square Garden. Over a large plate of chicken back stage, Bo Diddley said to her, “Welcome to Rock and Roll.” Next she joined The Shitbirds and The Haves, finally settling into the driver's seat as April March. A Francophile from a tender age, she re-introduced an international audience to the French pop heritage of Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy, Dani, Gillian Hills and many others. She cut her teeth in self production on a slew of popular to very obscure covers and adaptations of songs the French themselves had forgotten. Quentin Tarantino plucked “Chick Habit,” her adaptation of Gainsbourg's “Laisse Tomber Les Filles,” to feature in his film “Death Proof.” She recorded “Chick Habit” with the help of Andy Paley who introduced her to Brian Wilson. This began a nice stretch of recording on and off with Brian for the next couple of years subsequently giving her a priceless education in both arrangement and production. So when Alexander Payne couldn't reach Brigitte Bardot on the phone he hired April instead to write and produce her own Bardotesque song for his film “Election.” Next she met the modern day French Phil Spector — Bertrand Burgalat (just as talented, but a lot less dangerous). She made two albums with Burgalat, the first of which “Chrominance Decoder,” was chosen as one of the top ten albums of the year by The New Yorker and in the top 100 of all time by the seminal French magazine Rock et Folk. Burgalat introduced her to the great Aquaserge which led to an album and two films directed by Marie Losier landing her performances at The Centre Pompidou, MOMA and PS1. And so at this point in time, April March has recorded with Ronnie Spector, Brian Wilson, Jonathan Richman, R.L. Burnside, Andy Paley, Bertand Burgalat, Tony Allen, Yo La Tengo, LL Cool J, Alain Chamfort, Darlene Love, The Dust Brothers, Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab), Maya Rudolph, Sean OHagan, and Aquaserge. After such a list of credits, certain artists would have rested on their laurels to the strains of “The Afternoon of a Faun,” but this Franco-American ringleader is a horse of a different color, preferring to go forward rather than look over her shoulder, which brings us to the latest. She has just been cast alongside Gerard Depardieu and Vanessa Paradis in a feature film. After having published a children's book with Jack White called “We Are Going To Be Friends,” she's recorded an E.P. with Olivia Jean in his private studio which he released March 5th with a Video following on March 17th on Third Man Records. She's releasing a new album with the amazing Fugu featuring Tony Allen of Fela and Gorillaz as well as Marilyn Wilson of The Beach Boys and American Spring on July 17th with Record Store Day. The cherry on top? It's another new album with the dazzling duo Staplin who, according to Radio France,“compose with talent music where pop sunshine melodies of the sixties dance on trip hop beats, psyche rock rubs shoulders with cosmic flights of evanescent synths, and repetitive orchestral music stretches to festive groove storms.” Olè !Make it stand out.

New music from Spoon, Nation of Language and Laetitia Sadier
As broadcast October 18, 2021 with plenty of extras for the podcast buffet. Tonight & from last week, there really wasn't anything going on in music aside from the massive release of Adele's first new music in almost six years. And appropriately enough, as it was on this date that Adele made her breakthrough in the US with a rousing performance on SNL in 2008, so we started both hours with "19" Adele & the "30" version released a week ago. However, the big feature on this week's New Muses Monday is that we have a new 2nd hour guest with Aline Verduyn joining us going forward for our Popcast feature, and the former "Way Back To You" co-host with Tae here on GFN from Belgium is a perfect fit for the gig!#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Adele – Cold ShoulderBarrie – FrankieRalph Castelli – PretendSmile feat Robyn – Call My NameKamen Ross – Wildest Dreams serpentwithfeet – Down Nuh River Part II (30:57)Michael Kiwanuka – Beautiful LifeMichael Kiwanuka – All My LifeRicky Montgomery – Sorry For MeChristian Leave – MaybeThe Wombats – Ready For The HighLaetitia Sadier – New MoonJordana & TV Girl – Summer's Over Part III (60:55)Adele – Easy On MeElton John ft Dua Lipa – Cold Heart (PNAU remix)Pink Pantheress – I Must ApologiseTainy ft Bad Bunny & Julieta Venegas – Lo Siento BB:/Kelis – Midnight SnacksJustin Bieber – Red EyeArca ft Sia – born yesterday Part IV (93:12)Fletcher – girls, girls, girlsJesse McCartney - LemonadeBTS & Coldplay – My UniversePaul Kim – After SummerJenny Lewis – Little White DoveOrville Peck – Roses Are FallingHarry Styles – Watermelon Sugar
