Latched UK was born out of frustration when Natalie Ward couldn’t find activewear to wear whilst pregnant and breast feeding. With a background in sports, she knew what she wanted and set to work creating it. Natalie joins Nicole on this week's Start Scale Succeed to tell us how she went from initial concept, to launch in just 8 months and how influencer marketing has really seen business boom. KEY TAKEAWAYS Natalie didn’t outsource anything and did all the branding, design, and registering the business herself. When sourcing manufacturers she used video calls to look around the factory to make sure it lived up to her standards. Latched UK has grown from 3 products which have been tried and tested, with Natalie’s leggings lasting over 3 years, to now having 40 items available. Influencer Rochelle Hulmes helped Natalie sell out of her bestselling leggings. Influencer marketing has really grown her business all from products being gifted rather than paid promotions. Natalie’s advice is to do your market research and back yourself if you can solve a problem that nobody else can. BEST MOMENTS ‘The only thing we could find was in Australia and was not great, so we decided to do it ourselves’ ‘They said we don’t have the technology to make this in the UK’ ‘People want that Prime next day delivery for their night time feed’ ‘Influencer marketing changed my world’ VALUABLE RESOURCES www.instagram.com/latcheduk www.latched.uk www.thebuyerandretailcoach.com www.instagram.com/thebuyerandretailcoach ABOUT THE GUEST “Hi

On this episode of The First Run, Chris runs through all the films he saw at this year's Gasparilla Film Festival. First up is the dramatic tech thriller, ‘The Hummingbird Project', starring Jesse Eisenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, and Salma Hayek. Eisenberg and Skarsgård are business partners trying to get the fastest possible speed for online trading and thereby making themselves filthy rich. Hayek is their former boss with her own designs. There's the always relatively fascinating rundown of the big Blu-Ray & DVD releases, featuring the Straight to DVD and Streaming Picks of the Week. Then it's on to the Horror Shorts; ‘Latched', ‘Lullaby', and ‘Thread'. Next up is A24 Irish import, ‘The Whole In The Ground'. A young mom and her son move to the countryside and he disappears for a short time. Upon his return, something just isn't quite right… We're not done yet though as Taylor Schilling stars in, ‘Family'. Schilling is the no-nonsense Aunt who never has time for her family due to her dedication to her job. And she's a bit of a jerk. So how does the Insane Clown Posse save the day? Finally, the Japanese horror/comedy, ‘One Cut Of The Dead' closes out the show. A director is tasked with making a ‘one take' zombie show. But what happens when zombies actually show up? Tiffini Gatlin was tired of spending 5-6 hours a day prepping synthetic hair for just one client, so she came up with a technique to pre-curl the hair - this idea turned into Tiffini's million-dollar hair company, Latched and Hooked. But that's not the whole story.  Tiffini's story involves leaving her corporate job as an assistant VP and starting a few companies, including a celebrity concierge service and a digital magazine.  Eventually, she settled on braiding hair and she eventually developed a business idea that turned into her current business.   In this episode, Tiffini and I talk about how she got started with banking, how she used those skills when she started her business, some of the legal issues she's faced while building her business and how she distinguishes herself in a competitive, saturated market. Tiffini's big takeaways from this conversation is (1) lawyers are important - if you can't afford an attorney, then you shouldn't take your product to market (2) she doesn't balance everything, practice prioritizing your the moving parts of your life over trying to balance everything, and (3) be aware of your competition, but don't become consumed in what you're competitors are doing.   You can catch up with Tiffini on Instagram at @latchedandhooked or on her website, www.latchedandhooked.com.  Make sure to sign up for Tiffini's Sunday newsletter; she shares tips about life, being a mom, time with her family, and running her business.   You can find out more information about Tiffini and this episode at www.artsteele.co/ep31-tiffinigatlin. "I didn't let what happened to me lead me down a different road." On this episode we chat with Tiffini Gatlin - a former corporate bank executive turned entrepreneur and digital influencer. Tiffini takes us on her #dreamdriving journey which includes overcoming being abused as a child, losing her grandmother during a pivotal moment in her life,  climbing the corporate ladder, and finally taking the leap into entrepreneurship - a decision that came with many unforeseen hurdles and challenges. However, one common theme Tiffini experienced was this: Sometimes life doesn't always pan out how you may think it will or how you want it to. In 2015, she became a pioneer in the beauty industry after turning her side hustle into the first patent-pending process of pre-curled and looped synthetic hair. Within one year, she built a million-dollar ecommerce brand - Curlkalon. Due to problems with her business partner, she never imagined that she would end up deciding to part ways with a brand that she founded. Motivated more than ever, Tiffini expanded her vision for creating safe and affordable synthetic hair extensions and launched Latched and Hooked - a lifestyle and beauty brand that offers synthetic hair extensions and hair care products. Tiffini shares the lessons she's learned throughout her entrepreneurial journey that have helped her realized no matter what life serves you, it's up to YOU to make the most and keep moving towards success. WE DISCUSS: - What inspired Tiffini growing up - Dealing with physical & emotional abuse as a child - The power of forgiveness - Tiffini's college days & how she veered away from her original law school dreams - Loss - How working at Kroger's led Tiffini to a decade-long career at Bank of America - Lessons learned in corporate America - Why Tiffini decided to leave Bank of America - Learning how to be resourceful - What launched Tiffini into hair entrepreneurship - Creating a business based on a consumer need - How to find manufacturers and establish a presence in your niche - Protecting your patents & designs - Challenges growing Latched and Hooked - How to rebuild what you once built before - The power of forgiveness - The importance of lasting relationships & advisors SHOW NOTES: www.dreamsindrive.com/tiffini-gatlin JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP: www.dreamsindrive.com/facebook FIND TIFFINI ON: Instagram: www.instagram.com/tiffinigatlin  Twitter: twitter.com/tiffinigatlin Web: www.latchedandhooked.com FIND DREAMS IN DRIVE ON: Instagram: www.instagram.com/dreamsindrive Twitter: twitter.com/dreamsindrive Web: www.dreamsindrive.com FOLLOW RANA ON SOCIAL: Instagram: instagram.com/rainshineluv Twitter: twitter.com/rainshineluv JOIN THE #DREAMSINDRIVE COMMUNITY: www.dreamsindrive.com/JOIN
