Yesterday we studied the Parable of the Treasure. Now, Jesus continues his teaching with another similar story tied to it. They go together, so let’s read them together. Matthew 13: 44-45, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it.” Remember yesterday was all about a man who discovered hidden treasure in a field. He just found it there – stumbled upon it. But now in this story of the pearl, we have a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. A merchant is on a mission to find something specific. He is trained, he is experienced, and he knows exactly what he is looking for. One wasn’t looking and found hidden treasure. One was searching intentionally and discovered a pearl of great value. And isn’t it the same with finding Jesus. Some of us just stumbled right into Jesus when we weren’t even looking for him – while others of us found him after searching through every other religion, every other way of life and then we finally found Jesus. Which one is right? BOTH because they both result in the same life changing encounter. I didn’t go searching for Jesus. I had a beautiful childhood and lived in a sweet little bubble. At 15 my family started going to church and I was happy to go because in my tiny country town there wasn’t much else to do. I wasn’t expecting to meet a Savior, I didn’t even know I needed one – but there he was, so sweetly awaiting our encounter. It wasn’t dramatic. I didn’t have a bunch of bad decisions and regrets to lay on the altar. I just knew there was a prompting from within calling my surrender to his divine guidance. I was the one who stumbled on hidden treasure in a field when I wasn’t even looking for it. That’s the kingdom of heaven. Then there’s my friend Cat. In her 30’s she had walked down a path of addiction that had led her to a crashing end. While in rehab trying to get sober and regain her life, she was introduced to a variety of “higher powers” for the choosing. She began studying and trying them. Buddhism was surely it, so she tried it – but felt nothing. So on to the next one. How about Hinduism. No, that wasn’t it. She left rehab now sober, but still searching. On the way out, her counselor handed her her own personal copy of ‘Jesus Calling’ and said, “At some point you’re going to need this.” Cat tucked that little devotional book away in a closet and returned to life. It was a better life sober, but not a whole life. When the next big family catastrophe hit, she knew she needed something to carry her through and not return to the familiarity of her addiction, and she remembered the words of the counselor at rehab who had said, “At some point, you’re going to need this.” And Cat knew – if there was ever a time I need something, it’s now. So, she found that book, ‘Jesus Calling’ in the closet, she opened the page to that day’s date, and there she found every single word she most needed. But more than words, she found the loving, forgiving, life-changing Savior she had been searching for all along. AND SHE KNEW IT. She knew this was THE ONE. Jesus was the pearl of greatest value and nothing would ever be the same for her. Cat was the one who had been searching for years and finally found her pearl. That’s the kingdom of heaven. Isn’t it amazing that we have BOTH? Both a Savior who will pursue us when we aren’t even pursuing him – AND a Savior who will patiently wait as we pursue everything that isn’t him and perfectly align an encounter with him when everything else has failed? Jesus doesn’t fit in our little box. It doesn’t have to be one way. He is THE WAY, and he will make the way to you in whatever way that needs to be. He’s the hidden treasure you stumble upon without even looking – and he’s the pearl of great value you’ve studied and searched for your entire life. But remember this – either way, he’s worth giving up EVERYTHING for. In both parables, when found, everything else was sold. Remember that. Jesus requires everything. He’s worth everything. He’s greater than everything. For my sisters who are more like me without the dramatic story of searching for Jesus, and more just stumbling upon him when you weren’t even looking, remember you’ve found the greatest treasure of all! And for my sisters who have searched their entire lives, here’s Jesus and he’s everything you’ve been looking for! He is your pearl! And really think about Jesus being our pearl. How wild that he would use that as the example in his teaching. Do you know how a pearl is formed? A pearl begins with an irritation. If an oyster never has an irritation, they simply never have a pearl. But if their little world inside their shell is penetrated by the irritation of a grain of sand, then that irritation creates something that becomes valuable. The irritation of sand inside the shell causes the oyster to respond. Their response covers the sand with layers of naturally produced protection from within. Layer after layer, something beautiful is formed around something that originally caused great pain. Think about that – the very thing that irritated the oyster becomes part of what makes the pearl so valuable. Of course that’s why Jesus uses the pearl as an example – he knows this is how God works sometimes! Something you never asked for gets into your life. A disappointment, a betrayal, a loss, a failure, a terrible season, an series of bad decisions that turned into an addiction. Irritation grows. It gets worse. You’re so uncomfortable. But God is growing something within you. Something of great value. This is where Jesus shows up!!!!!!! Don’t you see how God can use what was so painful to produce something so beautiful in your life? He wastes nothing. The oyster doesn’t wake up one morning and say, “I think I’ll make a pearl today.” It simply responds to what has entered its life. And slowly, layer by layer, something extraordinary develops. Maybe that’s what God has been doing in you. You thought you were just surviving. God was forming you. You thought you were just getting through another hard season. God was adding another layer. You thought you were being delayed. God was developing depth. You thought the pain was ruining your story. God was making something beautiful from it. And then you find your pearl. You find your Jesus, that is what you’ve been searching for all along. And what do you do when you find that pearl – You don’t just keep looking for something else. You don’t keep trying other things. NO. You know this is what you’ve been looking for all your life. This is your answer. Here he is. And you give up everything else because you know there’s absolutely NOTHING better! What if some of the things you’ve spent your life chasing were never the pearl? But Jesus says, “You found it.” The Kingdom is the pearl. Jesus is the pearl. And when you finally understand His worth, you realize, I don’t have to spend the rest of my life searching. I’ve found what my heart was looking for. Jesus is worth everything. What are you known for? Is it what you want to be known for? And how much control do you have over either? In this episode of the Testing Peers, Chris Armstrong, Russell Craxford, Dan Ashby and Tara Walton explore intellectual territory: the ideas, problems and patterns of thinking we repeatedly return to.Against a backdrop of AI, changing roles and questions about future relevance, the Peers discuss whether intellectual territory is something we choose, discover or have placed upon us by others. They explore identity and perception, the opportunities and limitations of becoming known for something, and whether being a generalist makes territory harder to define. They also consider how territory can evolve as careers, interests and contexts change. And it doesn't require global recognition. Your intellectual territory might simply be what colleagues come to you for, what your team associates with you, or the perspective you consistently bring to a conversation.Exploring Your Intellectual TerritoryChris introduces seven questions for exploring your own intellectual territory. The fuller prompts are below. The aim is to uncover something durable: not trendy topics or surface positioning, but the patterns of thinking that are consistently yours.1. Across your past work, talks, writing and decisions:What recurring tensions do you return to?What problems do you seem unable to ignore? What assumptions do you frequently challenge?2. Where do you consistently add value?Do you clarify?Reframe?Simplify?Expose risk?Connect systems?Interrogate signals?Something else?3. What irritates you professionally?Vanity metrics?Superficial optimisation?Incentive distortion?Performative confidence?Something deeper?Irritation often points to intellectual territory.4. What do you believe that is both:True across contexts, andUncomfortable enough that not everyone agrees?5. What is the mechanism behind your thinking?Do you operate through empiricism?Through systems thinking?Through cultural observation?Through risk framing?Through interrogation of assumptions?6. If you stripped away job titles and trends, what lens remains?7. What capability would organisations strengthen if they deeply adopted your way of thinking? As you explore them:Challenge where you generalise. Push yourself to be specific. Avoid buzzwords. Avoid praise. Articulate patterns, not slogans. The questions aren't intended to produce an immediate answer. There may be a difference between the territory you believe you occupy and the one others place you in. You cannot completely control what sticks, but you can reflect on it, reinforce it or choose to move towards something different.References and MentionsThe episode references Simon Sinek and Start With Why, Brené Brown's work on vulnerability and leadership, April Dunford and positioning, DORA metrics, Lisa Crispin & Janet Gregory and agile testing, and Dan Ashby's continuous testing/DevOps model.#PeersCon27 (March 11th, 2027) is now LIVE Tickets for the event are live for the Price of £30.The Call for Papers is open until July 31st, 2026: https://testingpeerscon.com/collaboration/And as always, we are looking for sponsors to make this event the success it has been for the last 3 years, get in touch if interestedTwitter (https://twitter.com/testingpeers)LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/testing-peers)Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/testingpeers/)Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TestingPeers)If you like what we do and are able to, please visit our Patreon to explore how you could support us going forwards: https://www.patreon.com/testingpeersSupport the show

On today's episode, we welcome Dr. Heather Rogers, double board-certified dermatologist, Founder of Doctor Rogers Skincare, and Co-Founder of Modern Dermatology — a trusted voice of reason in a skincare world overloaded with trends, hype, and too many products. After years of seeing hundreds of patients each week, Dr. Rogers noticed a pattern: people were overdoing it. Damaged skin barriers. Irritation. Reactive skin. Confusing routines. Products promising results but often creating more problems. That frustration led her to build Doctor Rogers Skincare, a streamlined, fragrance-free, dermatologist-tested line focused on fewer products, scientifically grounded ingredients, and formulas designed to support healing, calm inflammation, and strengthen the skin barrier. In this episode, Dr. Rogers breaks down what actually matters in skincare — and what does not. We talk about barrier-first skincare, why sensitive skin is so often misunderstood, the biggest myths and overhyped trends in the industry, and how consumers should think about terms like “clean,” “clinical,” and “medical-grade.” She also shares what it's like to build a consumer brand as a practicing dermatologist, what she refused to compromise on, and why simplifying your routine may be one of the best things you can do for your skin.

Why Are Christian Women So Disconnected From Their Bodies | Brooke Rozmenoski | Episode 412

Confessions Of A Crappy Christian Podcast

In this episode, Brooke and I dive into a struggle so many Christian women share: feeling disconnected from their bodies, overwhelmed in their lives, and genuinely unsure why their health is suffering. What often shows up: Constant stress and urgency Snapping at loved ones Poor health or confusing symptoms Feeling unable to slow down The root issue isn't just physical, it's a whole-person misalignment. Why "Healthy" Efforts Aren't Working So many women are trying: Diet changes Supplements Exercise plans But still feel stuck. The missing piece? The "why" behind the dysfunction. Your body responds to: Chronic stress Emotional wounds Spiritual disconnection Without addressing those, surface-level fixes just won't last. Living in Survival Mode A key theme we talk about is the nervous system. So many women are stuck in fight-or-flight, which looks like: Everything feeling urgent Inability to rest Constant distraction Burnout and irritability Your body was designed to handle stress briefly, not live in it daily. When it does, both physical and emotional health begin to decline. Emotions Are Signals Instead of suppressing emotions, Brooke reframes them as signals: Anger → often rooted in fear Anxiety → often tied to overload Irritation → unmet needs Learning to name emotions helps calm your body and understand what's really happening. Biblically, emotions aren't sinful, they're human. Even Jesus experienced deep grief and distress. The goal isn't to avoid emotion, but to remain obedient within it. Connection Before Correction This applies to both parenting and personal growth. Instead of immediately fixing behavior: Pause Attune Understand When you feel seen (and help others feel seen), real change becomes possible. Why You Feel Overwhelmed The issue often isn't effort, it's capacity. Your nervous system determines how much you can handle. If it's overwhelmed, adding more habits only makes things worse. Healing expands your capacity over time so you can handle life differently, even if your responsibilities don't change. The Work That Changes You Real transformation requires deeper work: Processing emotions Facing past wounds Letting go of control Surrendering to God It's not easy, but it leads to lasting peace and clarity. Getting Back Into Alignment So many women are living out of order: Work and responsibilities first God and self last True alignment looks like: God Family Self-care Everything else When God is first, everything else begins to fall into place. Self-Care Isn't Selfish Neglecting yourself leads to burnout and disconnection. Taking care of yourself allows you to: Show up fully for others Respond instead of react Live with more peace and joy You weren't designed to run on empty. Final Takeaway Your body, mind, and spirit are connected. Healing starts when you: Slow down Pay attention Process what's beneath the surface Reorder your life around God It's not about doing more. It's about living aligned.  TITLE: You're Not Burnt Out — You're Out of Alignment Episode Summary Feel tired… but not physically? Snapping at your partner more than usual? Starting over every Monday and never quite gaining momentum? It might not be burnout. It might be misalignment. In this episode, we challenge one of the most common narratives in modern life — that you're simply "burnt out." Instead, we unpack a deeper truth: You don't hate your life — you hate how you're living it. When your daily actions don't match what you say matters most, friction builds. That friction shows up as low energy, frustration, inconsistency, and disconnection in your relationship. This episode is about identifying that gap — and fixing it.  What We Cover Why "Burnout" Isn't the Full Story Most people label the feeling as burnout, but what they're really experiencing is being out of sync. You say health matters… but you don't train You say your marriage matters… but you don't connect You say discipline matters… but everything is negotiable That disconnect creates tension — mentally, emotionally, and relationally. What Alignment Actually Means We break alignment into three core areas: Habits — what you do daily Values — what you say matters Environment — what your life reinforces When those three are in sync, life feels clear and energized. When they're not, everything feels harder than it should. How Misalignment Shows Up This is where it gets real. Misalignment often looks like: Constant low-grade fatigue (mental, not physical) Irritation or distance in your relationship Always "starting over" Guilt followed by avoidance You're not lacking effort. You're fighting yourself. The Marriage Factor You don't live in isolation — you live in a shared system. When partners are misaligned, it creates: Resentment Passive-aggressive behavior Disconnection Daily friction Example: One partner is pushing for growth. The other is choosing comfort. That gap doesn't stay neutral — it creates tension every single day.  The Alignment Reset Framework You don't need a brand-new plan. You need alignment. Here's how to start: 1. Audit Ask: What do we say matters most? What do our actions actually reflect? 2. Set Standards (Non-Negotiables) Choose 2–3 habits as a couple: Train 3–4x per week Eat with intention Weekly check-in together Keep it simple. Keep it consistent. 3. Reset Your Environment Remove friction: Junk food Chaotic schedules Lack of structure Add structure: Consistent workout times Shared routines Clear expectations Your environment should support your standards — not fight them.  Final Takeaway You don't need more motivation. You don't need a new program. You need alignment. When your actions match your values, everything changes: More energy Better connection Less friction More momentum  Listener Challenge Sit down with your partner and ask: What kind of couple are we trying to be? Do our daily actions actually reflect that? Because the truth is: Your life doesn't feel hard because it's too much… It feels hard because you're living out of sync.

Micro Plastics and Dentistry

Holistic Dentistry Show with Dr. Sanda

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 11, 2026 25:41

Today's episode explores a growing issue in both dentistry and public health: microplastics and nanoplastics, often called MNPs. What are micro- and nanoplastics? Microplastics are tiny plastic particles smaller than 5 millimeters, while nanoplastics are even smaller—less than 1 micrometer. These particles are now found everywhere in the environment, including water, air, soil, and even inside the human body. Researchers have already detected them in blood, lungs, placenta, breast milk, and stool. Plastics contain over 13,000 chemicals, and thousands of these substances may be harmful to human health, including carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, and neurotoxic compounds. Why does this matter for dentistry? Dentistry is both a source and pathway of exposure to micro- and nanoplastics. Several common dental materials and devices release these particles, including: Resin-based composite fillings Clear aligners and orthodontic appliances Prosthetic materials like dentures Impression materials used for dental molds These materials can release microplastics through wear, degradation, polishing, and everyday use. Oral care products as another source Daily oral hygiene products also contribute to exposure. Examples include: Toothpastes Toothbrushes Dental floss Mouthwashes Over time, these products can release small plastic particles that may be ingested or inhaled, leading to chronic exposure. Possible effects on oral health Research suggests that micro- and nanoplastics may affect the oral environment in several ways, including: Irritation of oral tissues Disruption of the oral microbiome Damage to oral cells Potential genotoxic effects Some studies also suggest that long-term exposure could contribute to oral cancer, although more research is needed. Systemic health concerns Because these particles are so small, they can cross biological barriers and spread throughout the body. Experimental studies show they may cause: Oxidative stress Inflammation Immune system disruption Hormonal interference Microbiome imbalance Potential effects on fertility, brain health, and development Microplastics can also act as carriers for other environmental toxins, which may increase their harmful effects. Awareness and regulation Despite the growing evidence, the review highlights that clinical awareness in dentistry is still limited, and regulatory oversight remains insufficient. Many dental professionals may not yet consider microplastic release when selecting materials or products. Want to see more of The Holistic Dentistry Show? Watch our episodes on YouTube! Eye washing with preservative-free sterile saline removes pollen from the eye surface, easing itching, tearing, and redness throughout the allergy season People who wash their eyes experience steadier symptom control, more symptom-free days, and better daily comfort compared to those who do not Younger allergy sufferers use eyewash more often than older adults, reflecting higher exposure to digital health guidance and quicker adoption of simple self-care habits Lifestyle factors such as short sleep, smoking, higher stress, and contact lens use increase the likelihood of turning to eyewash for relief Supporting your body with vitamin C, quercetin, whole foods, quality sleep, and stress reduction lowers histamine load and strengthens your defenses against seasonal allergies
