Gil's Arena PREDICTS Who Will Be The NBA Cup Champions as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew return to the arena and preview the final game of the NBA Cup where the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Milwaukee Bucks to see who will win the ultimate prize of Adam Silver's midseason tournament. They discuss how a win will cement Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard and Doc Rivers' impressive turnaround and break down how this test in a playoff environment is exactly what Shai Gilgeous Alexander and his young OKC Thunder teammates need as they shift their focus to the NBA Playoffs. They also react to another vintage James Harden performance as the beard dropped 40 for the 2nd time this season and debate if he's getting enough credit for this Los Angeles Clippers season, before breaking down how Kawhi Leonard's return could change everything for the Clippers and Harden's elite bucket getting. Next, they return to South Beach to check back in on the Jimmy Butler trade rumors and discuss if the Miami Heat are playing too well to trade their superstar or if they're simply waiting it out for a bigger deal to materialize. Finally, the Gil's Arena Crew reacts to another highlight reel performance from Ja Morant and debate if the Denver Nuggets championship is still open with Nikola Jokic & Jamal Murray as the franchise cornerstones. Amber Quann joined me in the studio this week to share her business journey, which started at the age of 13 after she'd built notoriety since she was 10 by winning many local and regional competitions in the 4 H community for her dog training skills! Several neighbors and family friends got puppies around the same time, and so Amber started group training lessons in her front yard! She's been training dogs ever since, eventually founding Summit Dog Training 9 years ago - and in the last few years she's scaled the business, built a training team with specialization, and recently moved to a larger location with property! We talk a lot about Tucker in this one - my 11-year-old Schnocker - and Amber shares abundantly with me and our listeners about how dogs (and people) think and learn, and especially about how to create better behavior for your dog - even as a self-implementor. Don't teach your dog not to bark when there's a knock on the door, for example - that's really hard. Instead, teach them to go sit on their sleeping pad and be ready for an introduction. Give them something to do - not something not to do. A propellant to Summit's recent growth has been her “Drink with Your Dog” training program, which brought Amber to national attention - DWYD is a program centered around creating dog-friendly breweries, and brewery friendly dogs. The growth of the business has required Amber to spend less time training dogs, and more time working on the business and becoming a capable CEO. We talk a lot about that journey, her hopes and plans for the future, and about those who've been a part of her journey so far. She's perhaps the most smarty-pants about dogs person I've ever met, you'll learn a lot and love her personality, so please enjoy my conversation with Amber Quann. Tired of posting your job and getting bombarded with unqualified candidates that don't even come close to what you're looking for? Did they even read your job post before applying? Not to mention the time it takes to wade through all that chaff and, in some cases, pay for every eyeball that reads or applies. I used to be you. I was an HR Manager for a manufacturing company and always struggled to balance recruiting with the other 100 things I was responsible for juggling. There were always employee conflicts, performance issues or looming deadlines that seemed far more urgent than that open position that no one applied for, that one position you inwardly groaned when you got because you knew it was going to be a beast. The other 95% of your job seemed more urgent until that hiring manager complained about the lack of support they were getting from HR, from you. They forgot about all the extra hours you pulled to ensure the ISO audit was successful, or how expertly you handled that difficult employee on their team. I know your struggle. You tried. You posted it, but you knew the right person wouldn't fall in your lap. You engaged some external agencies and got a flurry of resumes the first few weeks, but that stream of candidates dried up when the hiring manager wasn't interested in many of them. Abraham Lincoln said, “Give me 6 hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first 4 sharpening the axe.” I use that same philosophy. Talent Hawk Recruiting will save you time and help you hire the right people who fit the job and your culture. We are so sure we provide a 90-day candidate guarantee. Since 2020, we've only had 3 candidates that didn't work out during the replacement period and successfully backfilled them all. Every company that has engaged my services continues to use me and refer me to others. Clients love how thorough we are at getting to the heart of what they're looking for in a hire. To find out more, message me and I'm happy to share more insight into what I can do for you and your organization. thawkins@talenthawkrecruiting.com 919-601-5113 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tracey-hawkins-leaddog/
If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes! This is another listener suggestion, this time from Cedric on Facebook. I don't know if he used this phrase, or if it was my interpretation. The analogy comes from visualizing a dog sled team. Imagine a sled being pulled by 5 dogs. One in front, and two pairs of two other dogs behind it. If you're the lead dog, you have a clear view of where you're going. If you're one of the other dogs, you have a view of the rear end of the dog in front of you. Are you leading and innovating? Or, are you watching others do it.Listen to this new 7-minute episode for some ideas on how you can act like the lead dog in your market and category. If you have any questions about anything in this, or any of my podcasts, or have a suggestion for a topic or guest, please reach out directly to me at Alan@WeddingBusinessSolutions.com or visit my website Podcast.AlanBerg.comPlease be sure to subscribe to this podcast and leave a review (thanks, it really does make a difference). Episode Notes Episode 54: Lead Dog Brewing’s Raspberry Blonde It’s the Two Minute Beer Review!I’m Andrew Burkum and it’s that time of the week again where we pick a bottle from that massive craft brew aisle hoping to find a hidden treasure. This week we’re going to take a look at Raspberry Blonde by Lead Dog Brewing in Reno, NV. Will gentlemen prefer this blonde? Let’s find out!Raspberry Blonde is a deep gold to amber in color. The smell is almost completely and unmistakably that of raspberry jam. But what about the taste? It is very raspberry! No false advertising on the label of this one. Sadly, I don’t find a whole lot of depth behind that fruit flavor. You just get all that berry right up front and then it’s gone without leaving much of an impression behind. It’s not sweet, but it also doesn’t really develop at all. It’s just there and then gone. I was kind of hoping, to be honest, for something more complex out of this one. Raspberry blonde is a fine experiment in the combination of fruit and beer but at the end of the day I find it kind of a single note experience. On the upside it’s not too sweet, which could have taken it to some very bad places but honestly I’m having a hard time finding the beer in this one and as a beer lover first I sort of have a problem with that. For me it would not be a repeat experience. Raspberry Blonde is 5 percent alcohol by volume. Well that’s all for this week, but I hope you’ll join me next week as I take a look at Mischief Hoppy Belgian Style Ale from the Bruery in Placentia CA. Will this one help us get up to no good? We’ll find out next week! Look for links to this week’s beer and brewery in the show notes. Don’t forget to let me know what you’re drinking and what you’re thinking about the show. 22 year old founder, Ryan Gaumer, owner and brewmaster at Lead Dog Brewing might be the youngest brewmaster in the country! Perhaps creativity live with the youth. Ryan and Lead Dog have some pretty unique and quite delicious suds with beers such as Barrell Aged Choconilla stout (think chocolate and coconut), Citra-Solo with it's citrius nose and orange being squeezed on the label and Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout which smells like a Reces Peanut Butter Cup! Of course, Ryan also does quite a few IPA styles as well, including the 'all the rage' hazy IPA's inspired by the Northeast (New England style) and more traditional Cascade hop foward IPA's. Listen as we review four of their beers, including the Peanut Butter Chocolate and Dankster Double IPA!
