__________________ Mit: Peter Matić (Erzähler), Christoph Luser (Andreas Egger jung), Branko Samarovski (Andreas Egger alt), Werner Lustig (Kranzstocker), Gerti Drassl (Marie), Hans Kahlert (Hörnerhannes), Klaus Huhle (Alois Klammerer), Rainer Egger (Prokurist), Raimund Wallisch (Mattl), Franz Josef Danner (Grollerer), Linde Prelog (Wirtin), Christian Erdt (Offizier), Klaus Höring (Herr Roskovics), Brigitte Janner (Frau Roskovics) ____________________ Musik: Fatima Dunn – Hörspielfassung und Regie: Elisabeth Weilenmann – Tontechnik: Martin Leitner, Angelika Körber, Roli Fatzer ____________________ Produktion: SRF/ORF 2019 ____________________ Dauer: 51'

Such a pleasure to talk to Paul Cuff on Robert Egger's version of NOSFERATU. He knos so much that the discussion of the film unfurls into a discussion of the various other versions, Murnau's original (1922), Herzog's version (1979), David Lee Fisher's version (2023), and onto the films of Guy Maddin, Pablo Berger's BLANCA NIEVES (2012), various versions of THE STUDENT OF PRAGUE and even THE ARTIST (Michel Hazanavicius, 2011), which Paul loathes. We were entertained by, enjoyed -- with reservations -- the rich visual world of Egger's version, the thick and dense sound, and we praise Nicholas Hoult as the emotional anchor of the film. But Paul articulates his uncertainty about whether the film was a parody of itself or the genre or Nosferatu in its various incarnations. The film seems to be drawing on Murnau, Herzog, Caspar Friedrich's paintings. But it seems to create a world in which God ostensibly exists but no one seems to believe in the ideology that would sustain this. Paul notes with interest on how Eggers credits the screenplay of the original Nosferatu but not Murnau, the director. Paul highlights how Nosferatu was itself a rip-off of Bram Stoker's work and the significance of the titles of the most prominent version (Nosferatu, A Symphony of Horror (Murnau) and the German title of Herzog's version, Nosferatu, Phantom of the Night.) What all versions have in common is that they're all about sex and death, all about sex and the maiden; all versions have Nosferatu as a sexual figure as well as a figure of death and pestilence, How does Egger's version sit on the shoulder of previous versions and what does it add to them? We discuss our love of the performances of Max Schrek and Klaus Kinski and much more in the podcast below:
The first few chapters of Genesis are ancient history, yet they reveal essential truths about our present and future. Join us as Dr. Thomas Egger, president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis answers questions about Genesis 1 – 11. He shares the significance of primeval history in the understanding of Christ. “Does God have the power to raise my loved ones from the grave? What hope could there possibly be for dust? Jesus is the one who, just like in Genesis 2, can take dust and breathe his spirit, his breath of life into lifeless clay and make us human beings on the last day. That's how God created Adam in the first place,” said Egger.

Brandon and I are joined by Marc of the Toys of a Time Gone By to discuss the other Nosferatu remake...Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (2023)! This one stars Doug Jones as Orlok. You may remember Jones from Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy, The Shape of Water, and Pan's Labyrinth. Jones also appeared in Star Trek: Discovery, and Hocus Pocus. Could this be the superior Nosferatu remake? Is it better than Herzog's version or Egger's version? Check them out for yourself and let us know which one you prefer! Plot: Vampire Count Orlok expresses interest in a new residence and real estate agent Hutter's wife. Taglines: The Vampire Lives

Robert Egger's latest film, Nosferatu, is loaded with dread. That feeling of dread is largely delivered by the amazing sound design created by Damian Volpe (Sound Designer, Re-recording Mixer & Supervising Sound Editor), Steve Little (Supervising Sound Editor, Dialog Editor & Supervising ADR Editor) and the rest of the sound team. Egger's instructions were to base everything on organic sounds, so eerie ambiences were built out of the actors breathing and machines were built to create haunting winds. They also discuss the voice processing that was done to create the iconic voice of Count Orlock and lots more. Dracula Done to Death - Robert Egger's Nosferatu This week Mr. Chavez & I run to our local movie theaters to watch, contemplate, and bring to you Robert Egger's end of the year re-imagining of the F.W. Murnau Classic, Nosferatu. Re-makes are notoriously difficult to pull of and Egger's has his hands full with one of the greatest films in the History of Cinema. There is a great deal to admire in this new rendering of the Horror Classic. Where does it succeed? Where does it fail? There is so much to dig into on this week's episode. Take a listen and let us know your impression of this new "Dracula" Story. As always, we can be reached at gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks. “As someone who's been obsessed with vampires since I was a little kid, I don't totally know [why we love vampire movies so much]. Obviously, sex and death are always interesting and in vampire stories, including the very earliest accounts of folk vampirism in Eastern Europe, that connection has always been there. Some of these early folkloric vampires didn't drink blood but fornicated with their widows until they died. And then, being undead, rising from the grave, you know Dracula and Jesus have had the most movies made about them of any popular characters in Western cultures, so there must be something to that as well,” says Robert Eggers, writer/director of Nosferatu, starring Lily Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult and Bill Skarsgård. In this episode, Eggers talks about the play-version of Nosferatu that he wrote and directed when he was in high school, writing the Ellen character (Depp) as a woman at war with herself, and making Orlok (Skarsgård) the villain without making him too arch or campy. “[Orlok] has a sense of humor and he has a sense of poetry. He's a well-learned man so that's enjoyable. It's fun to write dialogue for someone who had their heyday in the the 16th century and English was like their 17th language, that's fun,” says Eggers. We also asked Eggers about telling an old story but making it relevant to today. He says that while he doesn't worry about making a film with a specific message, “I don't live in a vacuum. So even if I'm not trying to write a film with a message, whatever is happening around me is coming out. Also, it's interesting that the movie didn't get made until when it did. The original Nosferatu came out a couple of years after the Spanish flu. This is coming out a couple of years after the pandemic. And I wrote all that stuff before the pandemic. In fact, they had face coverings originally, and I took them away because it felt too much on the nose. So, I think it's all there for the taking,” he says. To hear more about the power of vampires and Egger's writing process, listen to the podcast.

This episode explores the intersection of human creativity and AI technology. Filmmakers Jonathan Keasey and Justin MacGregor who are partnering with Phil Egger of J4 on a slate of films assisted by cutting edge AI technology. In this conversation, Jonathan and Justin describe their journey and their vision for using the new tools. Describing what the tools can - and importantly cannot yet - do , they outline how they will be working with it on a slate of commercial animated feature films, starting with the legend of GELART. More About Jonathan, Justin and Phillip Jonathan Keasey is the founder of Mindriot Entertainment and an acclaimed screenwriter, producer, story hunter and proud member of the Writers Guild of America. Januar 2024.

A remote island may hold clues for the future of El Niño and La Niña under climate change, and how pressure in the blood sends messages to neurons First up, researchers are digging into thousands of years of coral to chart El Niño's behavior over time. Producer Kevin McLean talks with Staff Writer Paul Voosen about his travels to the Pacific island of Vanuatu to witness the arduous task of reef drilling. Next on the show, host Sarah Crespi talks with Veronica Egger, a professor of neurophysiology at the Regensburg University Institute of Zoology, about an unexpected method of signaling inside the body. Egger's work suggests the pulse of the blood—the mechanical drumming of it—affects neurons in the brain. The two discuss why this might be a useful way for the body to talk to itself. This week's episode was produced with help from Podigy. About the Science Podcast Authors: Sarah Crespi; Kevin McLean; Paul Voosen Episode page: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.z1hqrn2
