It's episode 69 and so our brave Casual Explorers are showing their emotional age by watching the infamous ‘everyone gets drunk, horny and crazy' episodes of Star Trek, TOS' The Naked Time where George Takei shows off his impressive sword and TNG's less impressive ‘The Naked Now' where Charlie asks the most important question ‘if Data has no emotions, why did his creator build him to be fully functional, sexually?' and Miles asks the second most important question ‘Why have this as an second episode?' Meanwhile, Guest-Star Cele from ‘Celeste is Best' gets to talk about Lower Decks' own ‘everyone goes drunk and crazy' with ‘Empathalogical Fallacies' and has no real important questions to ask except ‘why is this so delightful?' WARNING: Believing yourself to be descended from Irish Kings does not in fact make you an Irish King.EPISODES DISCUSSED: ‘The Naked Time' (19:44) ‘The Naked Now' (52:44) ‘Empathalogical Fallacies' (1:25:09)TALKING POINTS INCLUDE: Donut County, the Elric books, the Superman movie, Man of Steel, Fortunate Son was not the only song about Vietnam, Spock looks weird in a black t-shirt, Sulu looks great with no shirt, Spock is a huggy drunk, how NOT to follow up your first episode of a brand new TV Series, Picard's weird grunting, Miles and Charlie share stories of drunken productiveness, the failure of the writers to make Wesley likeable, the canonical reason why Data is ‘fully functional' and why Lore is EEEEEVIL, Denise Crosby's incredible mincing and costumes, everyone should watch Lifeforce, the very referential nature of Lower Decks feels like a bug, Worf would not host a poetry slam, Cele gushes about the fantastic work of Jamie Loftus.PEDANTS CORNER: Miles pronounces D'Artagnan as Dogtanian, but the Muskehounds are always ready.
Our brave Casual Explorers are showing their emotional age by watching the infamous ‘everyone gets drunk, horny and crazy' episodes of Star Trek. We start with TOS's The Naked Time where George Takei shows off his impressive sword, followed by TNG's less impressive ‘The Naked Now' where Charlie asks the most important question ‘if Data has no emotions, why did his creator build him to be fully functional, sexually?' (and Miles asks the second most important question ‘Why have this as an second episode?'). Meanwhile, Guest-Star Cele from ‘Celeste is Best' gets to talk about Lower Decks' own ‘everyone goes drunk and crazy' with ‘Empathalogical Fallacies' and has no real important questions to ask except ‘why is this so delightful?' Originally recorded in October of 2024 we felt it time to drop this episode, record one more (the Picard Season 3 finale) and say a final goodbye to those that have listened with us for over 5 years. This is Vox, and boy is it an emotional rollercoaster. Listen as Haley and I gush over all the nostalgia this fantastic episode brings to us loving fans. Listen as we laugh over the Enterprise bridge carpet, smile at the sound of Majel's voice and laugh at our own idioic side stories. Thank you to Bill and Dan for supporting us and stinking with us as we navigate life and to all of you for listening to our rambles. This is Rewind episode 58, Vox.

This episode originally broadcast on July 17, 2025. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2025/07/binary-system-podcast-466-station-eleven-lower-decks-superman-and-the-spectacular-failure-of-the-star-wars-hotel/It's a bonus-sized (and spoileriffic!) episode this week because we've got a lot to go over. Another episode of Station Eleven of course, with gorgeous cinematography, excellent music, and a lot of questions: are the child-bombing psychos from the Museum, the Prophet, or the Red Bandanas? (Or all three, we have no idea who's side anybody is on.) Does the Conductor have cancer, because in TV land bald = cancer but we know in the real world bald = chemotherapy and there's probably not a lot of chemo in the apocalypse. And finally, Alex, come on, we know you're up to something, please don't be evil?Next up on the season 4 finale of Lower Decks, remember last week where we wondered if one storyline was a very deep pull from Star Trek the Next Generation? Turns out yes it was a very deep pull from Star Trek the Next Generation. One that, at the time, made us feel really bad so it's no surprise we squashed the memory. But this episode makes up for a lot of that. And after that, surprise of all surprises, Elizabeth went to see the new Superman movie while it was still in the theater. Short version: she really liked it, though it wasn't quite as good as that trailer we loved. But that's an awfully high bar to hit. However Nathan Fillion is all kinds of awesome, the end.And finally, Kathryn watched the first hour of the Hugo-nominated "The Spectacular Failure of the Star Wars Hotel." Turns out there are many things to love about Disney's short-lived luxury LARPing experience, but they've got an emergency plan that we DO NOT LIKE, and could possibly be illegal, but Disney gonna Disney. This week's outro is a clip from House Banger Music by YuraSoop.Looking for a present for that hard-to-shop-for person? AUDIO FROM THURSDAY NIGHT GEEKS Bill and Dan are boldly going where few fans dare to tread: straight into the heart of Star Trek controversy. Everyone has a hot take, but not all opinions are created equal—and tonight, they're putting theirs on display. From the final frontiers of franchise canon to the captains, crews, and creative choices that divide the fandom, no corner of the Trek universe is safe. Expect a lively and honest conversation that challenges long-held beliefs and re-examines the things we all thought were settled. The guys are pulling no punches as they each share five of their most unpopular Star Trek opinions—and believe us, some of them might raise a Vulcan eyebrow or two. Whether it's about storylines, characters, or what should (or shouldn't) count as "real Trek," these takes are bound to get people talking. Of course, it's all in good fun. Thursday Night Geeks is a celebration of everything Star Trek—disagreements and all. So pour a raktajino, strap in, and get ready to yell at your screen (or maybe nod in silent agreement). You might not agree with everything said... but you'll definitely have an opinion about it. Be sure to hang around after the end theme for a brand-new outake from Bill and Dan recorded after this episode livestreamed! ======================================= Music for Trek Geeks is provided by the world's greatest Star Trek band, FIVE YEAR MISSION! They're recording one song for each episode of the original Star Trek. Get all their albums at fiveyearmission.net!

Audio from Thursday Night Geeks We're charting a course straight into the explosive Season 2 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds — "Hegemony." With tensions high and the Gorn deadlier than ever, the crew of the Enterprise faces a nightmare scenario that pushes Starfleet ideals to the breaking point. We'll examine how the series handles high-stakes conflict, moral dilemmas, and the weight of command in this harrowing final chapter of the season. We'll dive deep into Captain Pike's impossible choice and the toll it takes—not just on him, but on his relationships with his crew. From Spock's desperate search for Christine Chapel to La'an's cold tactical edge, every major character is tested under fire. And of course, we'll talk about that ending. The final moments of "Hegemony" leave us on the edge of our seats and wondering how the crew can possibly regroup. Grab your phials of glowing green goo and prepare to ham it up as we talk once more about Jeffrey Combs, the Philip Madoc of Star Trek (that's a Classic Doctor Who reference) and three episodes where his many characters make large roles. Unfortunately, Weyoun is only in a few scenes of Deep Space Nine's ‘Ties of Blood and Water' and both Miles and Charlie try really hard not to get personal as Kira has to look after a seriously ill surrogate family figure, fortunately Shran more than makes up for it in Enterprise's ‘Cease-Fire' as Archer is drafted into helping settle a planetary land dispute between Vulcans and Andorans and we make a little detour to ‘A Few Badgeys More' as AGIMUS, the evil computer and F***ing Peanut Hamper plan mischief… if you're one of those weirdos who only listen to hear Miles swear, this episode is for you! Come back in a year's time probably for J3ff, more than likely.EPISODES MENTIONED: TIES OF BLOOD AND WATER (14:26), CEASE-FIRE (45:33) A FEW BADGEYS MORE (1:11:27)TALKING POINTS INCLUDE: Blowing up Objectivists, what elements of British films make Miles homesick, The Phonecian Scheme, John Wickend which leads to a wider discussion on John Wick, the Death of Princess Diana, our first Jeff episode does not have enough Jeff, Kira has supplanted Odo as Miles' favourite DS9 character, how Kira and Ace from Doctor Who are very similar, a long way from the ‘Prat' version of Bashir, Miles finds out something horrifying about LL Cool J, Charlie retells his one TATU story and the boys clearly have Heatstroke, Shram/Archer shippers must exist, Andorian soccer mums, accents, Andorian Antennae acting, we don't need the Koala-joke in Lower Decks explained, Miles actually compliments ****ing Peanut Hamper, Boimler and Tendi hanging out together always seems weird.PEDANTS CORNER: Jeffrey Combs is Ratchet in Transformers Prime, not Transformers: Robots in Disguise
Audio from Thursday Night Geeks We're thrilled to welcome actor, artist, and all-around creative force Bruce Horak to the livestream! Best known to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds fans as Hemmer, the gruff but endearing Aenar engineer of the U.S.S. Enterprise, Bruce brings a unique perspective as the first legally blind actor to play a recurring character in the *Star Trek* franchise. Join us as we talk about his time on the show, his experience stepping into the Trek universe, and how he helped redefine what representation in science fiction can look like. But Bruce's journey doesn't stop with Strange New Worlds. He's embarking on a deeply personal new mission: a documentary titled "Boldly Going", which chronicles his life as a visually impaired artist, performer, and now cultural trailblazer. We'll explore the inspiration behind this project, how fans can support it through his current Indiegogo campaign (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/boldly-going-documentary#/), and why this story of resilience, creativity, and vision is so important in today's media landscape. Expect laughs, insights, and maybe even a few tears as Bruce shares how his love of storytelling—and Star Trek itself—has shaped his path. We'll also dig into his stage work, his incredible portrait paintings, and what it means to truly "go boldly" as an artist who defies expectations at every turn. And of course, it wouldn't be Thursday Night Geeks without some behind-the-scenes tidbits. Set phasers to "inspired" and don't miss this heartwarming, eye-opening episode with one of the most fascinating voices in modern Trek. This week Dana and Dan discuss the Strange New Worlds episode "These Old Scientists". Instead of fireworks, we have Spock showing a creepy smile and two Lower Decks animated characters becoming live-action characters. Add to that, an Orion ship (that may or not be pirates) comes in to stir things up. There's a lot of humor -- in this episode and in the podcast -- so be ready to have a good time. Don't forget, fireworks can scare animals and war veterans, but listening to the Damnit Jim! Podcast doesn't scare anyone.
Anthony and Laurie start the podcast with a deep dive into the latest goings-on with the Paramount/Skydance merger, unraveling the latest events and discussing what its impact on the Star Trek franchise (including movies as well as TV) could be. They talk about the news that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will end after season and how that will affect the arc of the show, then spend some time digging into the season 3 trailer as well as the panel discussion from the recent screening at the Tribeca Film Festival. Both podcasters also share their (mostly spoiler-free) early thoughts on the first five episodes of the third season, which has been shared in advance with the media. Laurie gives a quick wrap-up of the Trek Long Island convention, Tony talks about the announcement for Spaceballs 2—and a hint from Tim Russ that he may return for it—and Laurie recommends a fun video of the Lower Decks show open done TOS-style.

Episode 377: Star Trek First Contact We are back after an unexpected impromptu summer break. It's been a while since we've touched on Star Trek and since 90% of Brian's Star Trek knowledge comes from lower decks I thought it would be good to have him watch Star Trek First Contact since the film was heavily referenced in one of the episodes of Lower Decks. This strategy seems to have worked so other future Star Trek discussions will likely have a tie into lower decks. I think Brian's perspective on Star Trek from a Lower Decks first approach is an interesting one. First day back and David had some Mic issues, sorry about that. Alice discusses her powerful role in the film She Will, where she portrays Veronica Ghent, an aging movie star recovering from surgery in a mysterious Scottish retreat—a place infamous for its history with witch burnings. She delves into how trauma, vulnerability, and the quest for redemption shape her character and enrich the film's narrative. Alice shares fascinating behind-the-scenes insights about working with first-time director Charlotte Colbert, executive producer Dario Argento, and her talented co-stars, including Malcolm McDowell and Kota Eberhardt. She highlights the film's unique visual style and how nature and the cosmos are artfully interwoven with personal healing and justice. The conversation moves to Alice's multifaceted journey as the Borg Queen across multiple Star Trek projects, including her pivotal roles in Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Voyager, and the animated series Lower Decks. Alice reflects on the character's enduring allure, mysterious qualities, and cultural significance as an archetype that evokes complex reactions in viewers. Tony and Alice also reminisce about her acclaimed performances in projects like Carnival Row, Ghost Story, and her broad theater background. Alice provides a candid look at how immersive roles can profoundly affect actors—sometimes lingering well past filming, as she recounts from her experience on Silent Hill. With warmth and wisdom, Alice credits her career's richness to a passion for storytelling, collaboration, and the enduring joy of working with devoted creative teams.
