Alan argues that dental sealants should be treated more like restorations rather than simple preventive measures. He critiques the common practice of placing sealants without preparing the tooth, which he believes can lead to failure and hidden decay. Instead, he details his own protocol, which involves using a bur to open up and clean out the deep grooves of the tooth, often discovering stain, decalcification or even decay. He then fills these prepped grooves with a glass ionomer material. Alan asserts that this more involved approach results in a highly durable, decay-resistant solution that he feels far more confident in than traditional sealants. Depuis l'adolescence Charline rêvait d'être maman alors c'est tout naturellement que le projet bébé s'est mis en place quand elle a rencontré son conjoint. Ravie de découvrir sa grossesse, elle vit ses premiers mois avec nausées et autres maux mais un jour alors qu'elle est à son travail, Charline sent un liquide couler. Direction les urgences pour savoir ce qu'il se passe et le verdict tombe rapidement, la poche des eaux s'est fissurée. Ce serait une banalité si Charline était en fin de grossesse mais elle n'est qu'à seulement vingt semaines et le risque d'un accouchement prématuré plane. Elle va devoir être alitée strictement jusqu'à la fin de sa grossesse soit de nombreux mois sans pouvoir se lever sauf pour aller aux toilettes.Heureusement elle va au bout de cette grossesse et rencontre sa fille, mais la solitude mêlée à l'angoisse de perdre son bébé pendant la grossesse font qu'elle a du mal à créer le lien. En parallèle le papa agriculteur travaille beaucoup, le bébé dort peu et le couple va tout droit au baby clash. Finalement le couple se ressoude et ils décident de faire un deuxième enfant. Sam speaks with Tyler Vasseur, letter carrier and shop steward in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), Branch 9, to discuss his recent piece in Labor Notes entitled "Momentum for Open Bargaining Grows in the Letter Carriers." Then, Sam speaks with David Dayen, executive editor at the American Prospect, to discuss his recent piece outlining the new FTC rule regarding non-compete clauses, co-authored with Luke Goldstein. First, Sam runs through updates on escalating violence by police and Zionists against anti-war protesters, Netanyahu's imminent invasion of Rafah, the Federal Reserve, Biden drug policy, state abortion bans, New York's special election for Congress, Johnson and Johnson's talc settlement, and labor rights, before watching Mike Johnson and Marjorie Taylor Greene trade shots ahead of a potential motion to vacate the Speakership. Tyler Vasseur then joined, first outlining NALC's union structure and role as one of four postal unions, before exploring the progressive division between the unions – including the desynchronization of their contracts –  under the US' shift into neoliberalism at the end of the 20th Century. Expanding on this, Vasseur explores the concept of “open bargaining,” and what it would mean in terms of activating and mobilizing NALC's base of workers, as well as creating a much more transparent negotiating process. After walking through the major forces driving NALC members' attempt at reform, and touching on the major roles of the US pre-funding mandate for the USPS and the 2008 Financial crisis in crippling industry wages, Tyler wraps up with the inspiring factor of the ongoing union renaissance in the US, and how this project has already begun to reshape organizing efforts within NALC. David Dayen and Sam then look to the absurd evolution of the “non-compete” contract clause, first popularized as a tool to prevent the spread of company secrets among executives, and now used to constrain some 30 million workers in industries from dog grooming to fast food. After expanding on the expansive chunk of our economy crippled by non-compete clauses, David walks us through the ongoing legal battle to overturn the bipartisan ban, how the legacy of Antonin Scalia looms large over this topic, and why the Supreme Court's bogus “Major Questions” Doctrine is central to these arguments. After expanding on the likely evolution of this court battle, Dayen wraps up with a brief update on Live Nation's attempt to court DC insiders with some help from the free (but evidently not priceless) press. What is Silfra Fissure in Thingvellir National Park in Iceland? Silfra Fissure is a remarkable rift formed between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This gap widens slightly each year, filled with glacial meltwater that is filtered through underground lava for nearly a century before it emerges as some of the clearest and freshest water on earth. Snorkeling here, you are literally floating between continents, in water visibility that extends up to 100 meters (about 328 feet), making it one of the top dive sites in the world. My Arctic Adventure Begins My journey began in the historic Thingvellir National Park, just about an hour's drive from Reykjavik. I chose to drive myself to the meeting point, parking in Lot 5 and walking a short distance to where Arctic Adventures had set up. It was a brisk 10 degrees Celsius in April—a perfect day for snorkeling.After a quick registration and waiver signing, the team helped us suit up. We were advised to wear thin thermal layers and thick wool socks under provided thick onesie thermal suits. Over these, they layered us into snug dry suits complete with gloves, a dry suit material face mask, snorkel mask, and fins.Given the water temperature hovers around 2-3 degrees Celsius, these dry suits were crucial for keeping our core body temperatures stable. And yes, take advantage of the restrooms before you suit up—it's a lot easier! The Snorkeling Experience in Silfra Fissure The walk to the water's edge was brief, and entering the water was seamless. Visibility was phenomenal; we could see the divers below us looking as if they were hovering just feet away due to the clarity of the water. A soft current gently pulled us through the fissure, meaning we could enjoy the surreal surroundings without much effort.The guide even snapped photos during our adventure, which were later available for download—truly epic shots that captured the ethereal blue of the waters, which are so pure you can drink from them. Warmth After the Chill Post-snorkel, we were treated to hot chocolate or tea and cookies, a welcome treat that helped warm us from the inside out. While the dry suits did an excellent job overall, my hands did feel the chill, especially my left one, which got uncomfortably cold. Fortunately, the sunny weather helped in warming up quickly once we were out of the water Overall Impressions Despite the minor chill, the experience was nothing short of magical. Snorkeling at Silfra with Arctic Adventures was a highlight of my adventures in Iceland—a truly unique experience where you can float between two worlds.
