San Antonio-based alternative rock band Donella Drive has just released their latest single, "Simian Transmission", alongside an animated video. "Simian Transmission" is available now on all streaming platforms, and the music video can be found on Donella Drive's official YouTube channel.“Simian Transmission” is the first single off of our upcoming album “AXON” set to be released in February 2025."The song 'Simian Transmission' is the first single from their upcoming full length album “AXON” set for a February 2025 release. 'Simian Transmission' delves into themes of mental chaos and societal disconnection. It portrays a sense of frantic expression and inner turmoil, with imagery of static and fragmented signals reflecting a struggle to find clarity. The repeated emphasis on 'failure' highlights feelings of defeat and hopelessness. The title suggests a primal form of communication that has been disrupted, symbolizing a loss of connection and isolation. Overall, the lyrics explore the search for meaning in a chaotic world."Andrew Salazar comments on the making of the video:"Aidan discovered the artwork of James Quigley, aka Gunsho, through the hip hop group Malibu Ken, a project by Aesop Rock and Tobacco. Other artists Gunsho has done work for include the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Andrew W.K. Intrigued by his unique style, Aidan reached out to Gunsho online, and they immediately hit it off. Gunsho then created the artwork for the video and collaborated with his friend Peter Karpick, a former creative director for Adult Swim and freelance designer who brought the images to life through animation. This collaboration resulted in a music video that we feel, perfectly.Pipeman in the Pit is a music and interview segment of The Adventures of Pipeman Radio Show (#pipemanradio) and from The King of All Festivals while on The Pipeman Radio Tour. This week Elie and Marissa turn into forensic experts in an attempt to figure out why good cookies go wrong. They also discuss the bad eggs and rotten apples in the news this week: Ivanka! Rudy! Oath Keepers! Spine-free Republicans! And forget Malibu Ken, Elie offers us Mar-a-Lago Kevin, aka Senator McCarthy to us. Be warned: there is a triggering discussion in which they imagine McCarthy kissing Trump's ring. You may not want to eat while listening. But we kid. Marissa also explains how to make Everything Cheese Biscuits, because, why not? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In this episode, I share several personal stories from my dating life after my first divorce. I was 30-32 years old and my daughter was in pre-K and kindergarten.I talk about the mistakes I made when I was like to be young and single. I was insecure and basically introduced myself as damaged goods to men who displayed interest in me.I revisit my relationship with “Funcle” in regards to his feelings toward little Lanie. I also reflect on what it was like to try to gauge how she felt about him.I tell the story updating “Malibu Ken” and how I totally misjudged his intentions. I had a total panic attack after attempting to spend the holidays with Lanie, a boyfriend, and his children. I explain what it was like in the early stages of dating my ex husband and blending our three girls. There's no doubt in my mind the children are the most complicated factor in dating after divorce. For good reason… They are the most important people in our lives. Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/manshopping)

Katie Whittemore joins on this episode to refute a list of crazy fan theories about Four by Four, and to talk about the difficulties of translating a book in which there's really no where to hide. Chad also shares some new, bad, jacket copy, and makes a pitch for one of Katie's next books to come out: World's Best Mother by Nuria Labari. Very fun, loose, enjoyable episode putting to bed a book that is, ultimately, quite unnerving. This week's musical four-by-four reference is from Malibu Ken in his appropriately creepy "Acid King." If you'd prefer to watch the conversation, you can find it on YouTube along with all our past episodes. Next week we'll move on to The Book of Anna by Carmen Boullosa and Samantha Schnee. Get your copy today! We'll discuss part one, “Anna’s Sergei and Anya’s City” (pgs 1-73), next Wednesday, July 22nd, and you can watch live here. Follow Open Letter, Chad Post, and Brian Wood for random thoughts and information about upcoming guests. Be sure to order Brian's book, Joytime Killbox, which is now officially available at better bookstores everywhere thanks to BOA Editions. And you can get 20% off Four by Four by using the code 2MONTH at checkout. (Offer only good in the U.S., since we can't ship overseas, but to be honest, we can't ship right now! Order it from Bookshop.org.) You can also support this podcast and all of Open Letter's activities by making a tax-deductible donation through the University of Rochester.

Tobacco is the nom de guerre of electronic musician and composer Tom Fec. Tom also founded the music collective Black Moth Super Rainbow. In both projects, the music he makes is rich and layered, but kind of dirty and unsettling, sometimes, too. He works with a lot of vintage synthesizers and records on older equipment. On this episode, he talks with Jesse about his history in music - from noodling around with synths and guitars and a four track to working with Aesop Rock on his latest project - called Malibu Ken. He'll also explain why he avoided interviews and stayed anonymous for so long, and why that changed.
