Dick Garcia. Renegade is on the second - and substantially longer - portion of his California pilgrimage. Now in San Francisco, Gus has been able to research the Peoples Temple, Zebra Murders and the assassination of Dr. Marcus Foster - all of which is rooted in Bay Area history. Gus has also been more mindful of the presidential election since escaping Los Angles. Vice President Kamala Harris worked in the District Attorney's Office hear in the 415, but recent reports show here California support is lagging. In Florida, an 18-year-old White teen was arrested after brandishing a machete in front of election workers. The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 8th study session on Michael Meiers' Was Jonestown a CIA Medical Experiment. This infamous mass murder has countless parallels to our recent literary selections - Columbine, Michael Swango, and The Hart murder-suicide. The Rev. Jim Jones, a White man born in a Racially Restricted Region of Indiana, took a thousand people from California to Guyana, South America. On November 18th, 1978, Jones killed nearly all 1,000 of his mostly black followers and orchestrated the assassination of Congressman Leo Ryan. Some were shot, but most were poisoned with cyanide, just like "Double-0 Swango." For nearly half a century, this event has been conventionally understood as a bunch of brainwashed black loons following a White charlatan to their demise in the jungle. Meiers' work suggests something far more nefarious. Last week, we learned about the assassination of the first black superintendent of any major California jurisdiction, Dr. Marcus Foster. Shot with cyanide bullets in November of 1973 (5 years before the November 1978 Jonestown massacre), the Symboinese Liberation Army (SLA) claimed credit for the slaughter and proceeded to kidnap Patricia Hearst, White daughter of publishing titan Randolph Hearst. Meiers suggests that the SLA was a CIA creation and their harebrained kidnapping may have been an elaborate distraction to keep North Americans from paying more attention to the concurrent COINTELPRO and Watergate scandals involving state-sanctioned corruption. Meiers also suggests Rev. Jones was connected to the SLA and may have contracted them to eliminate Dr. Foster, who opposed Jones' unfettered access to Oakland's poor black children. #COINTELPRO #TheCOWS15Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#
Locked On Zags - Daily Podcast On Gonzaga Bulldogs Basketball
Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs earned a five seed in the midwest region of the 2024 NCAA Tournament, where they will play 12 seed McNeese State in Salt Lake City on Thursday. This is a fantastic sign of respect for the Zags, and they could get a second round matchup against a beat up Kansas Jayhawks team and beyond that a rematch with Zach Edey and No. 1 Purdue.St. Mary's also earned a five seed as the committee seemed to value the WCC, while BYU was only given a six seed. Elsewhere, former Zag coach Dan Monson led Long Beach State to a Big West title and a 15 seed against another former Gonzaga coach, Tommy Lloyd, while former Zags Hunter Sallis and Efton Reid were left out of the Field of 68 at Wake Forest. We close out the show discussing a pair of transfer portal targets Gonzaga has already contacted, Marcus Foster from Furman and Jacob Crews from UT-Martin, and how we think Few's team might attack the portal this offseason.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!LinkedInThese days every new potential hire can feel like a high stakes wager for your small business. In 1970, Dr. Marcus Foster was hired as the first Black superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District. Widely recognized as one of the greatest educators of his generation, he was brought here to help rescue a deeply troubled system. Within three years of his arrival, exactly 50 years ago this month, Foster was assassinated by a shady militant group that called itself the Symbionese Liberation Army. Even though many of the details of Foster's death are known, it remains one of the most mysterious murders of a notoriously turbulent era. Although the SLA supposedly emerged from Berkeley's revolutionary underground, there are some startling connections that point to a far more complicated story. On the anniversary of this tragic killing, this episode celebrates the legacy of Foster's impact on Oakland school and also delves into the murky origins of the group responsible for this death. The first segment features Patanisha Williams, the curator “The Audacity to Believe,” an exhibit about Dr. Marcus Foster currently on display at the African American Museum and Library at Oakland. The second half of the show includes bestselling author and investigative journalist David Talbot, who wrote about the SLA in his book “Season of the Witch: Enchantment, Terror, and Deliverance in the City of Love.” Music for this episode was generously provided by Jason Stinnett and Justin Lee. We offer our respect to those ancestors who may be interred in this land. We are also thankful for the gifts of the People of the land. We hope that this service leads us to reconcile the mistreatment of this land and to those who have been displaced. This series is centered on the roots of colonialism in the western Christian Church, not to simply highlight historical wrongs, but to make the move from deconstructing racist roots toward a constructive faith and church moving toward generative and liberative future Come! We have moved into the liturgical season of Ordinary Time and are beginning this new Sermon Series that will span the next couple of months. We are calling it “Self-Care Sundays: Remember to Dream”. This series is all so many of the important strategies of caring for self that we learn about from ancient wisdom, activist practice and the practice of remembering how to care for our bodies. This was inspired by Emergent Strategy and as such de-centers the sermon and makes way for small group discussions, knowing that we all have practices and wisdom to share and in that sharing we go deeper into relationships that are critical to our communities. This week’s message will be delivered PABC Pastor Henra Chennault. Our Scripture reading from Genesis 32:22-31 will be read by Marcus Foster. We are in the liturgical season of Pentecost, the time when the grieving disciples receive the fire of the Holy Spirit. Our sermon series is "New Language - New Heart - New Normal.” In essence it is about how the Spirit moves, working to create and re-create the world continually. If we tap into this becoming, then we will join the next evolution in a more just formation of the world. In its formation the series is purposefully trinitarian in structure, which is also the structure of the law of three. This week’s service will be led by Rev. Keith Menhinick and will celebrate both Father’s Day and Juneteenth! Our Scripture reading from 1 Kings 19:1-11 will be read by Marcus Foster. We know you will enjoy this rousing sermon and hope you love our online worship!

In this episode Park Avenue begins a new sermon series to celebrate and affirm Black History, called “Un-Ordinary Time”. Preachers will draw from the lectionary texts for the liturgical season of Ordinary Time and integrate themes of Black history, revolution, joy, excellence and resistance with the true liturgical sense of Ordinary Time, which is intended to be a time for learning and implementing lessons of the seasons. This episode features a reading of Howard Thurman's piece, "The Sound of the Genuine," read by Daniel Bass. Scripture reading by Marcus Foster of Genesis 12:1-3. Then Pastor Henra preaches a sermon entitled, "Bless with Your Blessing."
Pastor Darci preaches from Ephesians 3:16-20, with the voice of Marcus Foster reading scripture. Darci shares a vision of the boundless possibility when we let ourselves be filled with God's love, in community.

Bryant Ott connects with Matt DeMarinis, who is in Charlotte after accompanying the 8-seed Creighton men's basketball team on their flight to the site of their first round (and, second round, hopefully) 2018 NCAA Tournament games. First up for the men's squad: a date with 9-seed Kansas State -- that's right, Marcus Foster's old team. To preview the game and the team's approach to their second at-large trip to the Big Dance in the past two years, Matt interviews Academic All-American Tyler Clement. Then, Matt features an interview with Creighton women's basketball's Sydney Lamberty and Myah Mellman. They and the rest of their teammates learned late Monday that they were one of the last four at-large teams added to the women's field for the 2018 NCAA Tournament. Their trip takes them to Pauley Pavillion in Los Angeles, where as an 11-seed they'll face a familiar 6-seed in the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Two months ago, I laid in a long, metal tube in a London hospital, staring at the blank white walls around me as the entire room buzzed and hummed with the sounds of high-tech analysis. I was getting a "Magnetic Resonance Imaging" procedure done - also known as an "MRI". But this was no typical MRI. I wasn’t injured and I wasn’t sick: I was simply immersed in a brand new form of cutting-edge image analysis - an ultra-fast MRI scan to deliver precise quantification of fat and muscle tissue within hours - designed to give me a complete analysis of the entire structure of my body and brain - from extremely accurate body fat percentage and body fat distribution of visceral and subcutaneous fat, to the nitty-gritty details of everything from lean muscle and the brain, and beyond. In today’s podcast, I'm going to take a deep dive into how you can do this type of advanced analysis of your body’s structure, the future of MRI testing for performance, longevity and aesthetics, and much more - including a very special appearance by Dr. Jack Kruse on how MRI's can be used to analyze something called the "redox potential" of the human body. My first guest in this episode is Marcus Foster. Marcus spent most of his career as a Product Manager for technology companies, including 8 years at Google. In November 2011, he was involved in a serious cycling accident, breaking four ribs and his collarbone. He started playing around with 3D volume renderings of the CT scan that was done of his thorax as a result of the accident. He was blown away by how beautiful the human body looks on the inside. A year later he got knocked off his bike again, this time breaking his wrist, leading to another CT scan. The next year he was diagnosed with a tumor in his head and had to have a series of MRI scans. While he was gradually collecting imagery of different parts of his body, it seemed difficult to scale this model. In 2014, Marcus left Google and started Klarismo with the goal of making medical imaging more accessible to consumers as a means to explore and understand their own bodies. My second guest in this episode, Dr. Jack Kruse, is a respected neurosurgeon and CEO of Optimized Life, a health and wellness company dedicated to helping patients avoid the healthcare burdens we typically encounter as we age. He is currently in private practice in the Gulf South. As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Kruse’s research has been published in respected dental and medical journals. His popular blog, , gets over 250,000 unique worldwide visitors per month from countries like Australia, Germany, Russia, and Zambia (Africa). During our discussion, you’ll discover: -The series of horrific cycling accidents and eventually a tumor that led Marcus to delve into the fascinating world of CT scanning and MRI scanning...[10:45] -The little-known medical condition that can lead to low testosterone in men, and how you can find out if you have it...[18:20] -How something called a "Klarismo" scan is different than any other form of MRI...[24:12] -Whether MRI's are dangerous at all, especially in terms of radiation or exposure to "dirty electricity"...[25:30] -How you can find out the size of your brain, and the link between that and intelligence...[35:00] -What you can actually do with data that shows your precise fat and muscle distribution...[38:07] -The future of MRI testing, and how you can actually determine the positive and negative charges within tissue...[45:00] -What exactly "redox potential" is and what an MRI can tell you about your body's redox potential...[58:10] -Why Jack Kruse thinks Ben's tattoos have deleteriously affected his redox potential...[71:40] -And much more! John P. Spencer, Associate Professor of Education at Ursinus College and author of In the Crossfire: Marcus Foster and the Troubled History of American School Reform, talks about the work of a leading public educator who was assassinated in 1973. Spencer shares Foster's success stories and struggles in the Philadelphia and Oakland school systems, and explains what Foster's comprehensive, bridge-building approach can teach us in an age of finger-pointing debates about failing urban schools.
Lord Farcus? Well, our guest this week is MARCUS FOSTER, but we never call him Lord Farcus. I almost called this episode "Bananas Foster" but I don't call him that, either. Anyway, join us as Patrick mumbles more than ever while he completely ruins the surprises of "Blackest Night" in a conversation where all the really good bits were cut out because we both name too many names. Yes, you get the second-rate version of the Marcus Foster interview right here! Also, there are sound effects! Be worried.
Kitty Kelly Epstein speaks with Robert Blackburn, esteemed educator and former Superintendent of Schools for Oakland public schools.
