I have completed the most challenging half Marathon in the northwest called Robie Creek- seven times. But, on 3/27/2021, I did it twice, so it is the most challenging marathon! Some know it as the long climb to Aldape Summit; others see it as a “rite of spring” that arrives each year in the Boise foothills just before or on tax day. As a result, it has been proclaimed “The Toughest Race in the Northwest. But no matter what label you put on it, the annual Race to Robie Creek® is a challenge to all who dare to participate. History: It was 6:30 pm on August 16, 1975, that Boisean Jon Robertson and 24 other participants competed in the first “Idaho Summer Road Racing Championships.” The start would be at Fort Boise (elevation 2725'), up Reserve Street and Shaw Mountain Road, and then climbing the long and winding road up through Rocky Canyon and over Aldape Summit (elevation 4797'), to a 13.1-mile finish at Robie Creek campground at Lucky Peak Reservoir (elevation 3065') — combining a half-marathon distance with a 2072 foot ascent, and a 1732 foot descent. Such was the relatively quiet birth of the Rocky Canyon Sail toads and the Race to Robie Creek®. Run Race to Robie Creek. The other purpose of keeping me motivated throughout was keeping my pace to thirteen-fifteen min miles. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/therunningeducator/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/therunningeducator/support

Relationship Series Part3 - Indirect Relationships. For as long as I can remember, I have always believed that we meet people for a reason. Whether the reason is that we are to share life's journey with them, share some knowledge or advice, or learn something deeper, more challenging about ourselves, these messengers come into our lives to shape our development as a person. Instead of walking by or ignoring someone, stop to ask yourself, ‘Have our paths crossed for a reason? Why am I here with this person today, in this exact spot? How can our energy help each other?'. Just put your phone down, smile, and say, ‘Hello,' you never know what their message to you may bring. Make sure you check out all my other episodes. January 11th, 1964. The US Surgeon General announces: smoking is killing us. It’s an announcement that changed the course of American public health – and took years to finally come out. But it was only the beginning of an uphill battle to take down an all-American pastime. This week we ask: why did it take so long for the public to learn this deadly truth? And why has it taken even longer for us to accept it? Our latest debate asks, should doctors recommend acupuncture for pain? Asbjørn Hróbjartsson from the Center for Evidence-based Medicine at University of Southern Denmark argues no - evidence show's it's no worse than placebo. Mike Cummings, medical director of the British Medical Acupuncture Society argues yes - that there is evidence of efficacy, and trials haven't been designed to accurately measure that. We also hear from Kumari Manickasamy, a GP in north London, and someone who used acupuncture to control her pain during pregnancy despite knowing the lack of evidence.
