The episode opens with a heartfelt tribute to Dirk, featuring clips from his emotional farewell speech and the overwhelming response from fans and fellow players alike. The hosts share their personal favorite moments from Dirk's illustrious career, including the touching scene where Dirk breaks down in tears while watching a montage of his visits to children's hospitals. Their humorous banter and playful commentary provide a perfect balance to the episode's more emotional moments.Notable Quotes: "Larry effing Bird." - Derek Harper"There will never be another Dirk ever. Ce 10 avril, Marjorie Hache propose une nouvelle soirée intense, entre figures cultes et pépites alternatives. Garbage ouvre le bal avec son nouveau titre "There's No Fortune In Optimism". Puis, hommage à Albert Hammond Jr, guitariste des Strokes, célébré avec "Old Man" pour ses 45 ans. La Bordelaise Naya Mö séduit avec son univers lo-fi shoegaze, tandis que Scowl continue de faire vibrer l'émission avec "Tonight", tiré de "Are We All Angels", l'album de la semaine. Scott sits with The Strokes' own Albert Hammond Jr., following the recent release of the guitarist's latest solo album, Melodies on Hiatus. The California-born musician and son of “It Never Rains in Southern California” singer Albert Hammond was one of the first-ever guests on Lipps Service back in 2018. In his second appearance, he talked with Scott about The Strokes' latest tour for its album The New Abnormal, hanging out with Anthony Kiedis, and what it's like living in LA. The two also got into Hammond Jr.'s upbringing and getting into music at a young age, meeting and working with The Cars' Ric Ocasek, and the whole story of him joining The Strokes, including meeting Julian Casablancas in NY and having almost instant chemistry with him. They reflect on The Strokes' 25-plus-year-long career, working with Rick Rubin and other producers, touring, the making of his solo albums, Melodies on Hiatus, and much more. Tune into an insightful and rockin' episode with the one and only, Albert Hammond Jr.
Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. has been owning the downstroke for well over a decade now, and in addition to his work with the band he has managed to find time to release several solo records. His latest, Melodies on Hiatus, is a sprawling 19 song offering recorded with longtime collaborator Gus Oberg. Geoff Stanfield chatted with Albert about his latest recording, working with Rick Rubin and the power of imperfection. Enjoy! Sponsored by: Vintage King https://vintageking.com
Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond
Albert Hammond Jr. first rose to prominence as the lead guitarist of The Strokes—a band at the forefront of New York City's indie rock renaissance in the early aughts. In 2007 Albert Hammond Jr. launched his solo career, putting his songwriting and abilities as a frontman to the test. He's now released five albums, including, Melodies On Hiatus, which came out just a couple months ago. It's a double album that he co-wrote with Canadian singer Simon Wilcox, and features collaborations with GoldLink and Matt Helders from the Arctic Monkeys. On today's episode, Albert Hammond Jr. and Justin Richmond talk about how he was dramatically impacted by his parents' recent divorce, despite the fact that he's in his early 40's. Albert also reminisces about his past life as a champion roller skater who was once scouted by Kristi Yamaguchi's Olympic ice skating coach. And he explains why he'd never been a fan of Radiohead or Led Zeppelin. You can hear a playlist of some of our favorite Albert Hammond Jr. songs HERE. "I always said, I felt like, when the five of us are together, the universe does something different," says Albert Hammond Jr, guitarist for The Strokes, of his band's cosmic connection. "From the moment I met them, even before we did anything, all of a sudden the world felt different. I can only explain it like in the Matrix when he sees the numbers, so then it didn't feel that weird when stuff would happen. I didn't know what was gonna happen, but it felt like something was gonna happen." I had a blast interviewing Albert for episode 92 of the LSQ podcast. I am a massive fan of The Strokes (like, Top 5 all-time favorite bands kind of thing), and feel lucky to have a long history with them. Albert and I have known each other since the band's early days, when I got to write about them a bunch for Rolling Stone, and it's been awesome to watch his solo career develop alongside his band's. His new solo LP, Melodies On Hiatus, is one of his best -- 19 tracks that explore new facets of his musical personality while still brandishing his signature sound. In this interview, we talk about his childhood influences, an era when he was a rollerskating champion, the beginning of The Strokes, his songwriting process, and hopes for the future such as this one: "I'd love to create with [The Strokes], as I'm older. Because I feel like we're so interesting at different times with each other. So even at 60, I wonder what we would create? What would the band sound like? What would we do? Would our strengths and weaknesses change and how would that make our sound change? It still feels so exciting."
Albert Hammond Jr is a musician best known for being a member of The Strokes but has had a great solo career too. His new record, Melodies On Hiatus, is out now. We chat about going to Magic City on a Monday, Albert loves to cook with some really good salt, potatoes don't need duck fat, living in Hollywood but having a separate house for music, getting lemons from your neighbor who has so many lemons, touring solo hits different than touring with The Strokes, that one time TJ pretended he was in The Strokes in 2001, his wine seltzer brand, how TJ plans to DJ his own wedding, he'd make an awful studio musician, the outside songs on vinyl sound better than the inside ones, he grew up in LA, but he's a New Yorker whether he wants to be or not, and we find out his cardio heart rate zone. instagram.com/alberthammondjr twitter.com/donetodeath twitter.com/themjeans

Being the lead guitarist of the band, The Strokes, and with a celebrity roster of investors including Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, and Nick Hoult, one might believe that Albert Hammond Jr.'s new wine seltzer, Jetway, should have an easy path to take off. However, creating a product from ideation to quality in a can, starting a new business and raising money, and getting that wine seltzer into stores, restaurants, and people's hands was more like launching a new band for Albert. It takes a lot of effort, and there are a lot of unknowns as to what might help it stick. Albert tells the story of the first year of Jetway and how celebrity has helped but is far from enough to make the product successful. We're joined by producer Gordon Raphael to discuss his life in music and his work with The Strokes (particularly on their seminal debut album Is This It). Crucial matters discussed include: Gordon's various attempts to “make it” in New York City; how Gordon hooked up with The Strokes; getting fired from The Strokes' third album, First impressions of Earth; the removal of “New York City Cops” following the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center; and much more.
The Strokes are an American rock band from New York City. Formed in 1998, the band is composed of singer Julian Casablancas, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. On this episode, we give the debut record from the Strokes The Big Album Show treatment. Is This It was released in 2001 – 20 years ago. It was recorded in New York City with producer Gordon Raphael in March and April 2001. The band strived to capture a raw, garage rock style sound that was not characteristic of music at that particular time. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
This week I talked with musician/producer Gordon Raphael who produced The Strokes first two albums Is This It, Room On Fire and their very first release the Modern Age ep. For the 20th anniversary of The Strokes debut and ep we talked recording the albums, how Gordon met the band, hearing them live for the first time, making real drums sound like a drum machine and everything else you can think of. We also talked Gordons recording career, going from four track to Pro Tools, moving to England and much more.Check out the Power Chord Hour radio show every Friday night at 10 est on 107.9 WRFA in Jamestown, NY, stream the station online at wrfalp.com/streaming/ or listen on the WRFA mobile appRate & review the podcast - send us a screenshot for a free PCH shirt!email me for FREE Power Chord Hour stickers - powerchordhour@gmail.comFacebook - www.facebook.com/powerchordhourInstagram - www.instagram.com/powerchordhour/Twitter - www.twitter.com/powerchordhour/Youtube - www.youtube.com/channel/UC6jTfzjB3-mzmWM-51c8LggSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/user/kzavhk5ghelpnthfby9o41gnr?si=4WvOdgAmSsKoswf_HTh_Mg FOLLOW GORDON RAPHAELhttp://www.gordotronic.comTwitter - https://twitter.com/gordonraphaelInsta - https://www.instagram.com/GordonRaphaelFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/GordonRaphaelMusic

The Strokes are one of the most influential NYC rock bands of all time. Along with his four other bandmates, Albert Hammond Jr. helped create a sound and a look that inspired countless bands since they released their flawless debut album Is This It in 2001. Since then, every member of the band has branched off to work on solo albums or side projects - but the chemistry and camaraderie of the Strokes is a powerful force. They always somehow gravitate back together to record another Strokes album. This week, Albert sits down to discuss the challenges of being a solo artist, his relationship with fame, and how surfing has taught him to appreciate being in the moment.
Darren talks with Longwave's Steve Schiltz about his band Longwave, Van Halen, and of course, David Lee Roth! Steve talks about how Eddie's guitar playing was his entry to Van Halen, Dave, and Steve Vai and Jason Becker's catalogs, and how it informed and inspired how own work. Plus, the time Steve and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) were incredulous when a younger travel companion hadn't heard of, and subsequently did not get, the greatness of "Hot For Teacher." And Darren tells Steve about the Japanese import of the Spanish-language version of Eat 'Em And Smile, Sonrisa Salvaje (yes, you read that right). *** Steve Schiltz co-founded Longwave in 1999, and by 2002 the band was signed with RCA Records. Longwave's sophomore album, The Strangest Things, helmed by Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann, brought the band's music to the masses, and international tours with The Strokes, Bloc Party, OK Go and many more followed. Longwave went on an unofficial hiatus in 2009, after releasing Secrets Are Sinister. After years of collaboration, Schiltz wrote, recorded, mixed and produced Tonight Is The Ghost by himself — the first set of songs from the project that would become Hurricane Bells. The album quickly garnered kind words from critics and a following of fans. Steve's music has been featured on the soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: New Moon, alongside Death Cab For Cutie, The Killers and more. Hurricane Bells released an EP in 2010 and a second album, Tides And Tales, the following year. Another EP, There's Nothing Precious in the Past, was also completed. The band toured the States and played to crowds in Japan and India. Steve has toured with the likes of Albert Hammond Jr., The Pierces, Teddy Thompson and James Iha. His playing and writing can be heard on Blue October's 2018 hit album I Hope You're Happy (for which he co-wrote the title song), as well as UK hits by Birdy and Gavin James, and James Bay's international 2019 hit “Bad”. He's also his own boutique studio, composing music for documentary films and ads for multiple national brands and companies. In 2019, Longwave reunited and released “If We Ever Live Forever”, followed by “Live At Bowery Ballroom” in 2020. New records by Blue October, Harvard Of The South, and the Japan-only “There's Nothing Precious In The Past” are all slated for release in 2020. Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
Today's guest is Bryan De Leon and we break down the top 5 drumming moments that shaped his playing styles. Bryan's powerful, rigid, and syncopated drum parts are infectious, to say the least, and it's the reason he drums for power-hitters like Albert Hammond Jr of The Strokes, The Drums (a band...a very good band), The Shaking Hands and many more. I'm currently on a road trip right now, so I'm recording from an Airbnb…a tiny closet inside my Airbnb actually, but this episode finally introduced me to New Order and it's basically all I've been listening to. So, thank you, Bryan. Also, I need to mention...I almost edited out my initial question of how asking Bryan how his pandemic is going. It's a lazy question, and I hated it the second it came out, but it ended up pulling a great response from Bryan and touched on points I really wanted to keep it…so I kept it in. I just want you to know that I know and alright....shutting up...cheers! You can find links to all the songs discussed on the show in The Podcast section for this episode at www.bigfatsnaredrum.com. It "rides" the fader in real-time and keeps both my and my guest's audio at a consistent level without the need to overcompress.
