Oh, hello! Join us on a Danse Macabre this week as we weave through a fantastical land of conquerors, demons, and kings with Dear Wormwood, the sophomore concept album from folk duo The Oh Hellos! These Texas siblings wrote and recorded this C.S. Lewis-inspired epistolary all by themselves, with each track representing another step in the protagonist's quest to end an unhealthy relationship. We'll Oh-Lei-Oh-Lai our way through whimsical tracks like There Beneath and Soldier, Poet, King, and learn about everything from the intricacies of Irish citizenship to all the ways you could get wet during a concert. This folksy album blends deep symbolism with hard-hitting poetic lyrics and upbeat instrumentals that you might just have to hear to believe. We know who we are now... do you?Keep Spinning at www.SpinItPod.com!Thanks for listening!0:00 Intro2:16 About The Oh Hellos3:51 About Dear Wormwood11:37 Fact Or Spin13:13 Everything's Bigger In Texas15:59 They're Irish Citizens20:53 They've Been On Broadway25:46 A Very Wet Performance32:24 Album Art33:49 Prelude35:13 Bitter Water39:17 There Beneath41:29 In The Blue Hours Of Morning42:39 Exeunt45:05 Caesar46:36 This Will End48:23 Pale White Horse50:37 Where Is Your Rider54:22 Soldier, Poet, King59:08 Dear Wormwood1:02:09 Danse Macabre1:03:51 Thus Always To Tyrants1:06:12 Final Spin Hosted on Acast. Today on the podcast, Daniel and Lauren talk with Stephen Roach about their collaborative process, how changing seasons impact the creative process and our sense of self. You can learn a lot about leadership from rock ‘n' roll. There are some leadership lessons best learned from one of THE most iconic forms of music ... Rock 'n' Roll. It's been around for decades and has seen its share of highs and lows. There are a lot of parallels between rock and leading a team, and the connection isn't made nearly enough.I host lead singer of one of my favorite bands, The Collection, David Wimbush. He shares his powerful vision for music while keeping his band engaged and motivated for the long haul. I've spent most of my life either feeling ashamed of or resolutely ignoring my body. However, over the past few years I've come to integrate more and more my physical being into my sense of self, and have learned that my body holds a lot of truth. I am still relearning how to honour myself through honouring my body, and this is taking me into scary new adventures. In this episode I give you an update on these new adventures, both physical ones (quitting my job, aaargh!) and inward ones. I quote Clementine Morrigan in this episode, a writer who writes mainly about trauma-informed polyamory and cancel culture. You can follow her on Instagram at @clementinemorrigan. About me: My name is Sage Freda and I'm a storyteller and journeyer who currently lives on a farm in South Africa with my dog and too many books. I am setting out on some new adventures soon and hope you'll come along for the ride! Send me questions, comments, or voice messages at sagefreda@gmail.com. My website is www.sagefreda.com, and my social media: Instagram and Facebook. Cover art done by my talented sister, Hannah. Music by Lesfm on Pixabay. Song at the end: 'Hello my old heart' by The Oh Hellos.

TW: Miscarriage (detailed discussion) Today Mary's twin sister, Katie Walter, joins us for a powerful discussion about her journey with faith and motherhood through unexpected pregnancy and miscarriage. Katie is married to her high school sweetheart, Andrew, and has an adorable 4-month-old daughter named Aurora Josephine (or Rory for short). Katie is an Armor officer in the U.S. Army, and as such, is blazing a trail as one of just a few mothers currently serving in a combat arms branch. This unique path has inspired her to get certified in Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism training and she is on a mission to help mothers in tactical professions excel at their jobs without compromising their mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual well-being. She also wants to help women who experience both miscarriage and unexpected pregnancy to know that they are not alone and that their emotions (yes, all of them) are valid. If you or someone you know has experienced miscarriage, this episode may be difficult to listen to, so please prayerfully discern what is best for your heart before you listen. We also want to invite you to read 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 and invite the Risen Lord into your weakness. We hope this episode blesses you today, and we wanted to share a few things that are currently blessings to us: · Dear Wormwood album by The Oh Hellos https://open.spotify.com/album/1cPLA174FRXDxaU1yQtOGQ?si=lQJ5Uz5HR2uisxA6X3Z1FQ&dl_branch=1 · Saints Around the Worldby Meg Hunter-Kilmer https://stpaulcenter.com/product/saints-around-the-world/ · Armed to the Heart – Athleticism Through Motherhood https://linktr.ee/ArmedtotheHeart?fbclid=IwAR1SV12gWR6qz5AVFK4CrMuui7-uiIWRz7ulVZuB4ejaCmNsettNHmOtfJo · Dare to Lead by Brene Brown https://www.amazon.com/Dare-Lead-Brave-Conversations-Hearts/dp/0399592520/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw9O6HBhCrARIsADx5qCQ-UhW42O6gXbugD2W2S3zF0mrEbUqmt0ZCo_Q-tsT42LZT5NYshUIaAsYREALw_wcB&hvadid=295344640995&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9029014&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10922637991076490412&hvtargid=kwd-543364116910&hydadcr=15527_10340956&keywords=dare+to+lead+by+brene+brown&qid=1627148612&sr=8-1
In Episode 26, I sit down with Lauren and Daniel Goans of Lowland Hum. Both members of the husband and wife duo split singing and songwriting duty for the band. During the pandemic, they brought a child into the world and have already had to learn how to navigate writing, recording, and producing with a newborn in tow. Their little guy also makes a few vocal appearances in the show. We review their process covering Peter Gabriel's SO from top to bottom and what it took to release by the album's 35th birthday. Daniel and Lauren walk us through their early roots in music and examine their "kind of" serious campaign to #supportquietmusic. While Daniel and I traverse our very coincidentally similar youth experiences as tall and lanky fellows in the South. Crystal and I cover Say Anything, James Taylor, Max Headroom vs. Rosey as A.I. frontiers-"people" and more. Please enjoy my honest, open, and quiet… not always quiet… conversation with Lauren and Daniel Goan's, a.k.a Lowland HumLowland Hum homeGolden Hour Lowland Hum PatreonLowland Hum Instagram

It's all about how you live! We discuss our core value of having a sacrificial attitude toward money and living a moderate lifestyle. What do you devote to money? What does the Bible instruct concerning money? Stewards – of God's mysteries (1 corinthians 4:1) and Grace (Ephesians 3:2; 1 Peter 4:10) We are not instructed, in scripture, to be stewards of money. Sacrificial attitude towards money AND living a moderate lifestyle. You need to have both. Moderate lifestyle is easier to sustain; not self-serving; not controlled by fads; and focuses on contentment, which brings great riches Sacrifical attitude towards money is necessary to not be controlled by it, and also to avoid focusing on what you're doing without and waiting for it to be returned to you. Focuses the use of your resources on the Kingdom. The Good Samaritan wasn't concerned with his stuff, he was concerned with the hurting person. Isaiah 58 – Lifestyle of Fasting Want vs Need Matthew 6 – God supplies needs. Your stuff will get stolen. Luke 12:13-21 Storing up even more stuff for your self. Is this verse the epitome of the American dream? Luke 17:5-10 requirements for servants Is living a meager lifestyle even biblical, considering the wealthy and powerful people in Scripture? Joseph was a true steward – none of it was his stuff; he served his master well; never sought vengeance Abraham – Started by leaving everything and walking by faith; all he had was setting the stage for the patriarchs; he was not greedy. David – David's attitude was: it's God's throne, He can put whoever He wants on it. David's wealth was laying foundation for Israel as a nation and for building the temple. All three were in tune with what God was doing at that time. Jesus instructs His disciples to give up riches. “Riches” refers to wealth in the Old Testament but riches of Christ in the New Testament, except for 4 verses which warn against wealth.
