In this heartfelt episode of the podcast, host Wisdom Moon sits down with artist and songwriter Natalie Layne for an authentic conversation about faith, artistry, and finding peace in the creative process. Natalie shares profound insights about trusting God's timing in the music industry, moving away from the common cycle of desperation and extreme highs and lows that many artists experience. Throughout the conversation, Natalie's infectious enthusiasm and deep faith illuminate how finding true joy in artistry comes not from striving, but from resting in God's perfect timing. Currently residing in Nashville, Natalie's latest independent single "Amen" has gained millions of views on Instagram (where she has 328k followers) and TikTok (where she has over 233k followers) and 3 million likes on her videos. The single follows her 2021 Castles EP that garnered attention worldwide. The music led to opening concerts for Jeremy Camp, Chris Tomlin and We the Kingdom, and sharing stages with Steven Curtis Chapman, Mandisa and Crowder. Playing in several Nashville-based R&B and jazz bands, Natalie graduated with a Master's Degree in Commercial Piano from Belmont University. Writing and producing her own music, she most recently finished 2 major U.S. tours with Danny Gokey, Austin French, Brandon Heath, and Josh Wilson. She began leading worship at the age of 12, alongside worship pastors such as Cory Asbury, Jon Egan and Jared Anderson. In December 2022, Natalie signed an exclusive recording and publishing contract with Centricity Music. Her label debut the, "Amen" EP, has amassed nationwide radio adds, reached #5 on Independent Christian Radio Charts, and broke the top 30 on Billboard charts. From the EP, an exclusive live performance of her song "Grateful For" was just featured by the Recording Academy/GRAMMY's for their segment Positive Vibes Only. Natalie was also amongst Pandora's "Top 10 Artists to Watch" and featured on a billboard in Times Square. Singer/songwriter Austin French shares his brave story of emerging from an abusive childhood, a poverty stricken home, and church rejection. Struggling with anger towards his abusive father and the church, Austin reflects back on his journey..."I grew up in church, was surrounded by church culture, but I hated Christians for a long time. Our family was the family that pretended to be perfect on Sunday but was falling apart behind closed doors. As an eight-year-old boy, I was living two different lives, expected to be perfect on Sunday and then living in fear at home.” Discussing his book "Jesus Can" Austin takes listeners on a journey that showcases God's redemptive power taking a hardened heart and turning it into a heart of worship and praise. He has written multiple hit songs such as Jesus Can, Why God, Good Feeling, Freedom Hymn, Wake Up Sleeper and more. It was at a church music camp at the age of 13 where Austin French's life was changed forever. He went to camp to learn to play guitar, hoping to impress girls. Instead, Austin heard this message from one of the camp leaders: "Don't judge Jesus on the broken people He came to save." The words described his life perfectly. He'd been judging Jesus for his own family's brokenness, being hardened by the people around him whose faith was anything but authentic. Austin made the decision there at camp to not only commit to music, but to follow Jesus with his whole life. “I knew I wanted music to be a part of my life, but I also knew I wasn't going to do it to get girls. I wanted to write music for broken people.” He's stayed true to that first conviction, writing songs filled with a joyful energy that calls all people, believers and unbelievers alike, to open their hearts to God's amazing grace. In this episode with Austin French, you'll hear: -Austin's spiritual journey which led to his first major breakthrough...05:30 -Journal entry at age 8: "I'll never be a Christian"...08:15 -Feeling like damaged goods after being rejected by the local congregation...11:01 -Relationship with Jesus leads to forgiveness toward those who have caused great harm...14:45 -"You can't hate people you pray for"...18:07 -How to honestly and transparently share the gospel with those who need it...20:13 -Austin's relationship with abusive father restored through prayer and time...23:40 -How Austin gets into a creative flow...25:22 -And much more! Meeting the Healer of Broken People: Amy Kavelaris & Austin French

Jesus didn’t come for perfect people—He came to heal the broken and the hurting. Today’s guests, artist and author Amy Kavelaris and Christian music artist Austin French, share how God met them in their broken places and healed their lives and hearts. Amy draws inspiration from the awe-filled way her three little girls see the world, and it reminds her of the light God is in her life. When she gets overwhelmed by demands on her time or struggles to navigate life’s changing seasons, Amy remembers that God is creating opportunities for her. Austin French faced an internal battle with Christianity for years, only to realize he wasn’t hurt by a broken God, but by broken people. He finally found peace and healing when he learned that Jesus wants every piece of us. We are not defined by our scars—we’re defined by His.    Links, Products and Resources Mentioned: Sarah Young Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling books Jesus Calling book Jesus Calling AppJesus Calling® for Easter. It's just this beautiful relationship that we have, where it 100 percent inspires what I do every day.” - Amy Kavelaris ”This is all about Him. He’s the only reason I'm doing any of this.” - Amy Kavelaris  “I find that the only joy and freedom is when we gaze upon His light and His truth. It's then that we find that true, indescribable joy, and stop chasing after what the world tells us we need.” - Amy Kavelaris “I didn't understand why we had to change who we were at church and why we couldn't be who we were all the time. As an eight-year-old kid, I wrote down: I never want to be a Christian.” - Austin French “I realized that I had been hurt by broken people, not Jesus. We need a God who's with us and working with us.” - Austin French ”I think the only way to find a relationship with Jesus and truly find freedom in Jesus is to understand that brokenness is a part of this story.” - Austin French “We're not defined by our scars or the scars that you're walking through right now— we're defined by His. - Austin French ________________________ Enjoy these videos on Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio podcast: https://bit.ly/2uCnNM0  Original Series video podcast: https://bit.ly/2WzFY0O  ________________________    Connect with Jesus Calling Instagram Facebook Twitter Pinterest YouTube Jesus Calling Website

What You'll Hear: Jesse became a Christian at the age of eleven.  His father struggled with alcoholism and his mother struggled with depression. His Dad was in and out of jail and his Dad wouldn't let Jesse and his sister talk to each other Jesse was in his room while his parents were arguing and he heard a voice in his head that he had spiritual gifts and he just needed to stick to life and to read the Bible Once he got to high school he started going to church and learned that he was accepted by God as he was His parents divorced when Jesse was in college. Jesse still talks to them. He has prayed a lot for them lately and is learning how to sow seeds one day at a time When Jesse moved to Nashville to go to Belmont, he met a number of people that had an influence on him Jesse planned to move to Tampa, but God had another plan He prayed for a physical sign and God gave him one Jesse wants his past to help him mentor others He views faith like a bowling alley. Open gutters is like a life lacking faith.  Bumpers is like a walk of faith. Be steadfast in prayer and be specific about what you pray Jesse works with artists to help them get to the next level in their careers While in college he was on the pre-med track.  He was doing well but wasn't happy. He transferred to Belmont and started writing articles interviewing artists and realized that music was the pathway for what God wanted him to do Jesse interviewed Jason Davis for a podcast interview and he spent 3-1/2 hours with him, mostly talking about God Jesse became the tour manager for Austin French and then became involved in artist licensing We're all given spiritual gifts.  Living out his faith is to serve. Jesse writes out what he needs to accomplish in a day, he lives in the present and takes it day by day In the secular festival realm, it can be a big party and there's a temptation to go along with that. Always be up front and truthful with what your intentions are You can take little steps at work to make a difference Favorite scripture is Psalms 23:1-4 If we're not planting seeds with young people, there won't be anything to sprout Rather than listening to something, Jesse gets quiet and meditates jessewilder@comcast.net and on Facebook and Instagram
