The Auburn Tigers flexed their muscle last night at home against the Oklahoma Sooners. Auburn Basketball continues to dominate at Neville Arena and Oklahoma Basketball found that out the hard way. The Alabama Crimson Tide may be able to open up ground in the SEC Standings tonight even without playing. If the Missouri Tigers drop the game at Tennessee Volunteers, Alabama Basketball is now two games up (technically only two up in the loss column but they all play 18 at some point). The College Basketball Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network talks about the Best Rivalries in College Basketball. Ryan McIntyre (@Moneyline_Mac) and Noah Bieniek (@NoahB77_) give their thoughts on the (Bedlam) Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State and Virginia vs Maryland series being renewed. It is Sicko Season for College Basketball. Mac and Bieniek are diving head first into covering CBB's biggest preseason headlines daily this year. TCE Trims will be short form 10-30 minute news content where we provide our analysis and takes on today's biggest buzz. First, Mac and Bieniek provided the news that Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State will take place in OKC this season. Mac talks about what makes the matchup in the Thunder's building so ironic. Then, Bieniek reads off the announcement of Virginia vs Maryland becoming a 4-game home and home set. Mac describes growing in the backyard of this throwback ACC rivalry. The guys finished the show by drafting 10 of their favorite rivalries, 5 a piece. At the end they included their own honorable mentions and snubs from live viewers' comments. Brion looks at this week's opponent Nebraska and the games played from 1891 through 1919, and the history of Iowa against Oklahoma in basketball. There have been 53 football games played against Nebraska, and Iowa is 20-30-3 all-time (40%). Fry was 1-3 all time (25%), with the only win in 1981, and losses in 1979, 1980 and 1982. Ferentz is 8-6 (57%), but lost the first 4 (99, 2000, then 2011 and 2012). He won 8 of the next 10, including 7 in a row from 2015 to 2021. In 1896, they played twice due to controversy over how the first game ended. From 1903 to 1917, Nebraska was 8-0-1. From 1931 to 1941, they also won 8 straight. There was a big gap between games. They didn't play from 1920 through 1929, then another gap from 1947 to 1978, then again from 1983 to 1998. A few interesting stories to listen for. The Cornhusker nickname was created after a win over Iowa in 1894. Fans got onto the field in 1896 to stop Iowa from scoring a TD, so the game had to be replayed 2 days later, and Frank Kinney Holbrook scored the winning TD to give Iowa the conference title. One game was impacted by pollution from the UI Power Plant fumes over Iowa Field, and another game was played during the Spanish Flu outbreak. I also reviewed the history of Iowa vs Oklahoma basketball, as they are scheduled to play this week. Iowa is 3-2 all-time against Oklahoma (60%). The games were played in 1951 and 52, 1958 and 59 and the big one, the Sweet Sixteen matchup that Iowa won on a last-second shot in 1987. Oklahoma begins its second season under head coach Porter Moser tonight against Sam Houston State University. Moser is eager to improve on his maiden campaign, one in which the Sooners went 7 and 11 in conference play and wasn't invited to a tournament. Moser attributed that to signing 10 new players on Zoom, not meeting them until mid June and then having to play the second toughest schedule in college basketball. Welcome to a step up from the Missouri Valley Conference where Moser's Loyola Ramblers flourished over his last 5 seasons there winning 20 or more games and of course, making the NCAA final four in 2018. Moser could have left the campus on Chicago's lake front after that improbable run four years ago but he waited until the time was right and that time was 2021. In this wonderfully entertaining podcast the always effervescent Moser recalls that magic carpet ride to the final four, the ageless "Sister Jean" and the task ahead at Oklahoma, a place he says he loves just as much as Loyola.Tell me a story I don't know is now part of the Sports Media Watch podcast (sportsmediawatch.com) so please follow @paulsen_smw.
