Who are you? For this Women of Color Rise episode, Analiza talks with Judie Saunders, Partner at ASK LLP. Judie grew up in Alabama, the daughter of parents who immigrated from Trinidad and Tobago. Her father was a professor of African American studies at Howard University. Judie grew up with values of education and justice and after graduating from University of Maryland with her J.D, she became an attorney supporting clients who suffered from sexual abuse. Judie also co-wrote A War on My Body with Gloria Allred and Paxton Smith. As a mother, Judie decided to focus on her family, while keeping a foot solidly in her work. But this led to an identity crisis. She realized she was so much more than her work. How? Embrace the tensions. These are your teachers. For Judie, her teachers were her kids who wanted her attention and her partner, a fellow litigator with an ambitious career. Judie saw how these tensions and teachers could help her learn more about herself. You are not your work. Eckart Tolle's The New Earth describes how we are not what society's definition of success. We are not our careers, titles, or even motherhood. We are a consciousness. Be flexible. Rather than hold on to external expectations, release resistance and allow yourself to accept what is in front of you in life. Take time to heal. For Judy, this includes daily practices like meditation, boundaries, and journaling. Her daily prompts are: What are your goals for the year/decade? Why are you here? What are the top 3 things you will accomplish today? Judie also credits participating in Linda and Judy's Evolve Me program to help her clarify her identity, rev up, and come back to her career. On our first post-Roe episode, we share some of the voices from the streets over the last couple days outside the Supreme Court demanding the federal government restore the fundamental right to abortion across the country NOW, including Sunsara Taylor (@sunsarataylor), Paxton Smith (@paxtonsmith) and youth organizers. Then, writer and pundit Wajahat Ali talks to Sam about the January 6 hearings which have unearthed in great detail (though not exhaustive, as Ginni Thomas's key role continues to be obscured) the Trump regime's attempted coup plot. Read his latest piece for The Daily Beast: No, Our Institutions Didn't Hold After Jan. 6—Just Look at the GOP and follow him on Twitter at @WajahatAli. How are we accepting a ruling that reverses a fundamental right for more than half the population, issued by an illegitimate court full of fascists appointed by a (perhaps soon-to-be-indicted) criminal? Schwangerschaftswoche so.

Caroline is joined by Paxton Smith, a college freshman in Texas who went viral for her pro-choice commencement speech. Paxton talks about reproductive rights, how to talk to people who disagree with you on sensitive issues, sex education, and more. Caroline also starts by giving a super broad intro to the SCOTUS opinion in Roe v Wade and the rights given to women in the constitution. Follow @paxtonasmith @tryquinn

In Dallas, Texas last week, 18 year-old high school valedictorian Paxton Smith decided at the last minute to throw away her school-approved graduation speech to address a new Texas law signed Republican Governor Greg Abbott that would make all abortions illegal as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. Video of her 3-minute speech has gone viral and caused a rumble - so she joins Rumble with Michael Moore to explain how she summoned the courage to deliver that speech, how positive the reaction has been, whether she defines herself as "politically active, and the best advice she's received since going viral. Finally, Michael Moore is confused as to why Joe Manchin was sitting behind the legendary Joan Baez at the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night singing along to "We Shall Overcome" to honor her when it is Joe Manchin's intransigence, selfishness and greed that needs to be overcome. Paxton Smith, a card-carrying member of the Cult of Self, just revealed her narcissistic bona fides in her valedictory diatribe advocating for human slaughter at Lake Highlands High School in Richardson, Texas. She dumped her pre-approved speech and replaced it with a controversial political polemic. In an act of surpassing selfishness and presumptuousness, Smith used a once-in-a-lifetime family celebration to spread her poisonous belief that women's rights depend on their ability to have their children killed, and she did that in front of the young siblings, grandparents, and parents of her classmates. And to make a contemptible story worse, in multiple interviews Paxton Smith's father Russell Smith said he feels “immense pride” in his daughter's decision to ruin other people's special day. Apparently, Russell Smith has no feelings of sorrow about the eagerness of his daughter to be free to exterminate inconvenient grandchildren. Read more...
Last month, the US Supreme Court agreed to consider a major challenge to reproductive rights, saying it will look at the state of Mississippi's bid to enforce a ban on almost all abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy. Two days later, the Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, signed into law a six-week abortion ban. Why are attempts to reduce women's access to these services being made? Last week, one young Texan woman decided to use her platform at her high school graduation to give a speech on the so-called ‘Heartbeat Bill'. A speech that has gone viral. Emma speaks to 18 year-old Paxton Smith, and to Amanda Taub, a reporter for the New York Times. Last week we heard from Lord Heseltine who was unhappy about being forced as a Member of the House of Lords to attend an online course around sexual harassment entitled 'Valuing Everyone Training'. In response, we received a text: ‘I'm a young female staffer and did the Valuing Everyone course last autumn. It wasn't bad, but wouldn't stop people mistreating colleagues/staff and isn't a replacement for a proper HR system.' We speak to a woman who runs similar courses, and a lawyer who set up and manages the sexual harassment at work advice line at Rights of Woman on what needs to be done to stamp out sexual harassment in the workplace. Paxton Smith and activism in Texas.
It was unhinged, even by Trumpworld standards. In the dying days of the Donald's administration, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows asked the Justice Department to investigate a bizarre conspiracy theory, that an Italian defense contractor somehow swung the election to Joe Biden. Emails between Meadows and the DOJ were uncovered over the weekend. And there's likely to be more to come. This is only “tip of the iceberg of all the crazy stuff that went on this winter,” George Conway tells Molly Jong-Fast on the latest episode of The New Abnormal. “These guys were doing some wild, wild stuff. And it wasn't just the campaign and the kooky campaign hangers-on, and the lawyers who were working on the campaign, like Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell. This stuff was going on in the White House.” Plus! Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel talks about the militia movement, which has become so alarmingly potent in her state. And Dallas high school valedictorian Paxton Smith describes the reaction to her instantly-viral speech against Texas' new anti-abortion law.If you haven't heard, every single week The New Abnormal does a special bonus episode for Beast Inside, the Daily Beast's membership program. where Sometimes we interview Senators like Cory Booker or the folks who explain our world in media like Jim Acosta or Soledad O'Brien. She explains her motivations behind the speech and what's next for her. This valedictorian is not only very book smart. Most importantly Texas' draconian laws forced an otherwise politically quiet person to use her large stage to admonish an evil law passed by a party moving us back to the dark ages. Her parents have got to be extremely proud of this young woman. It is refreshing to know that we have young people like Paxton Smith in the pipeline. She is no political activist. But unbeknownst to her, she will become one because she will not allow the "system" to take her personal and economic freedoms away. --- If you like what we do please do the following! Paxton Smith, the 2021 valedictorian at Lake Highlands High School, submitted to school officials an address on the effect of the media on young minds. But when she spoke at the graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 30, she talked of the theft of her rights and those of her classmates by the “heartbeat bill” signed into law by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott a week and a half before. “I cannot give up this platform to promote complacency and peace when there is a war on my body and a war on my rights. A war on the rights of your mothers, a war on the rights of your sisters, a war on the rights of your daughters. We cannot stay silent,” she told her class.
