Every year on International Women’s Day, we celebrate women’s achievements, we hear inspiring stories, and we applaud progress. But at our current pace, gender parity is still 130 years away—which begs the question: are we actually moving forward, or are we just talking about it? This year’s IWD theme is "Accelerate Action," and that’s exactly what we’re doing in this episode with Penny Locaso, whose latest research in her white paper Hidden Figures: Where Are All the Female Experts? exposes a critical barrier holding women back—their reluctance to own their expertise. We unpack the four key themes from her research, from the "ick" factor of the word expert to the invisible checklist women feel they have to complete before they step forward. We explore how fear of judgment, lack of visibility, and outdated leadership norms continue to sideline highly capable women—and why it’s time for leaders to take responsibility for creating a system where expertise isn’t just recognised, but actively elevated. This isn’t just a conversation for women. It’s a call to action for every leader, every organisation, and every decision-maker. If we truly want gender equity, we can’t just celebrate IWD—we need to use it as a moment of accountability. Penny shares powerful yet practical ways for leaders to step up, including one of the simplest but most impactful actions: publicly recognising and naming the expertise of the women around you. It’s time to stop talking about change and start driving it. If you’re serious about shifting the dial on gender equality, this is the episode you need to hear.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Are you or do you identify as an expert? In her recent research, Penny Locaso was curious about women, who were clearly experts in their field, struggling to identify as such. So, as a Behavioural Scientist, Penny went to the evidence to understand; What is it that makes someone an expert, and why are so few women prepared to identify as one? What she found, was this misnomer in society – that experts were born. How can that be? Expertise is not something we are born with. This was the basis for Penny's recently released whitepaper, Hidden Figures, which highlights; women of impact are made not born. The importance of this being, women can see, it is possible for them to become an expert. This week's episode of the Power Of Women podcast with Di Gillett and Penny Locaso, may just challenge you to own it – and a warning, Penny doesn't hold back. Send us a textWhat if self-doubt could be your greatest ally in pursuing a life of meaningful impact? That's a hint of insight you'll gain from my conversation with Penny Locaso, a groundbreaking behavioral scientist and impact expert. On episode #118 of the 2B Bolder Podcast, Penny shares her inspiring journey from a successful career in the oil and gas industry to founding HackingHappyco, which is a testament to the power of bold decisions and authenticity. She shares how leaving a long-term relationship and corporate job led her to redefine success through personal fulfillment and impact, all while single-handedly raising her son.Penny opens up about the pesky persistence of self-doubt and how it often masquerades as fear in moments that don't actually pose any threat. Drawing from her experiences, like delivering a TED Talk and securing a book deal, Penny illustrates the importance of taking bold steps and forging relationships outside one's comfort zone. The shift from a corporate giant like Shell to entrepreneurship required her to unlearn certain habits and embrace adaptability, shedding light on how corporate skills can hinder and propel a successful business journey and emphasizing the importance of self-awareness.Penny provides invaluable strategies for building a personal brand with resilience and micro bravery. We explore the realities of entrepreneurship as a numbers game, where facing rejection is par for the course, but persistence and alignment with one's goals lead to true impact. Penny's candid reflection on setbacks is a powerful reminder that perseverance is the cornerstone of meaningful change. Join us to uncover how embracing risk and resilience can lead to greater impact and personal fulfillment.Alongside her entrepreneurial endeavors, Penny is the published author of Hacking Happiness, a contributor to the Harvard Business Review, a passionate yoga teacher, a faculty member at the esteemed Singularity University, and a student completing her Graduate Diploma in Psychology.Tune in to be inspired and gain valuable insights from one woman to another.Support the showWhen you subscribe to the podcast, you are supporting our work's mission, allowing us to continue highlighting successful women in a variety of careers to inspire others helping pay our wonderful editor, Chris, and helping me in paying our hosting expenses.

Coach is another word that the gurus have tainted with their shady tactics and self-serving messaging. They are selling hot garbage and diluting the value of genuine, qualified coaches who are invested in empowering people to make meaningful changes. If you want to work with a coach, there are key signs you should look out for to ensure you aren't just setting your money on fire. That's exactly why I've invited Penny Locaso, a transformational coach and therapist, to the show today. Penny is the founder of HackingHappy.co and a recent graduate of Campaign Classroom. When you're a busy working parent, your own happiness can feel like it's at the bottom of a long list. This stage of life doesn't feel like it's about being happy. It feels like it's about survival. Furthermore, any attempts to seek happiness bring out a rash of parent guilt. Self-care feels selfish when you have small humans. And in business often what we think makes us happy, doesn't. We're driven by ego, peer pressure and a bag full of ‘shoulds'. And we find, or I did, that the pursuit of happiness is in fact making us miserable. So in today's episode, we're going to chat about happiness, what it means and how to find it both as a parent and a business owner. In this episode, we kick off with a year-end recap and delve into the exciting changes expected in 2024. Get ready for candid and open conversations as we aim to uncover a deeper truth, enhancing both individual and collective potential to propel humanity forward and bring about positive change. Now, let's dive into today's conversation topic - how to prevent burnout. It's especially relevant for the season we find ourselves in, perhaps the first time all year you've had a chance to pause and ask yourself these questions: Have you been operating in robot mode? Do you feel like you're merely existing rather than truly living? Are you struggling to set boundaries, finding yourself buried under a never-ending to-do list? You're not alone. Many women and men invest all their energy in trying to be perfect and pleasing others, only to end up drained, overwhelmed, and feeling like they're not giving their best to anyone. And when that happens, it's almost impossible to experience a connection to purpose. Today, we're talking to Penny Locaso for the second time on the podcast. Why? Because as her journey has evolved, so has her wisdom. In our previous chat, we unpacked her book 'Hacking Happiness' and explored the Art of Intentional Adaptability. However, more recently, true to her word, Penny has pivoted her work to support busy women in preventing burnout and sparking joy, allowing them to feel alive and present in life again. To give you a brief overview, Penny is an incredible coach, TEDx and professional speaker, an author, a faculty member at Singularity University, and a yoga teacher. She is currently completing her studies in psychology and is also studying with the renowned Dr. Gabor Maté in Trauma Therapy. PLUS, REBRAND! If you're a podcast follower, you've probably spotted our updated cover, symbolising our planetary mission: empowering purpose as the ultimate social innovation, a catalyst for nourishing, supporting, and healing the world and each other. Consider this cover a sneak peek, with the complete refresh rolling out when we gear up again on January 24th. Future Fit Leadership with Future Leadership is back for Season 3. We kick off with Penny Locaso, on the topic of happiness. How often do we use or hear people justifying a decision based on how happy they were.... I left the job because I just wasn't happy". How many of you feel you are that hamster wheel, exhausted and just don't have the energy to get off? Are you prepared to make significant, intentional decisions in your life, to find happiness or flourish? How often do we let fear guide our decisions and - what changes would you make tomorrow if fear simply did not exist. ABOUT THE GUEST Penny is an executive coach, speaker, yogi, budding psychologist, author, and imperfect experimenter, on a mission, to teach 10 million humans, just like you, how to flourish by 2025. After 20 years as an executive in corporate change management, she felt burnout and stuck on the hamster wheel. She was at the bottom of my to-do list. She longed for more meaningful work, to be more present and more connected to those she loved. Whilst the path forward was unclear and she didn't feel ready, stepping into fear delivered opportunities she never imagined possible. Book & TV deals, TedTalks, global speaking opportunities, writing for the Harvard Business Review and most importantly, she created the freedom to flourish and live each day in alignment with what makes her feel energised and joyful. In this retreat she will share with you her world first, (American Psychology Consulting Journal published) Intentional Adaptability™ framework to empower you to transition from existing to living so that you can take control of your life and flourish on your terms. Bless it be. With love, Laetitia!

“We are beginners in this new life” (Penny Locaso - Happiness Hacker and my guest today). This year we are grieving and growing and we can be happy. Being happy takes practice. It is a powerful time to assess your habits, productivity, your energy and expectations of self. When do you feel alive? Happy? How could you feel that way more often? How could happiness be the journey not the destination. Together we hack our way to happiness. Penny Locaso is a former corporate exec and self described 'imperfect experimenter' on a mission to support us hack our way to happiness. She has written a book called HACKING HAPPY. You can find Penny and her resources here hackinghappy.co Penny shares tips, inspiration and experience to support us hacking our way to happiness. We discuss what happens when conventional success does not equate to happiness. Some of the great stuff: Alignment is living a life that is orientating me daily and doing things that make me feel alive. Bravely initiating life change is like turning up a light dimmer over a period of 2 years. Awareness grows on the personal impacts of values misalignment and taking responsibility for self and health. More compelling examples of less ‘work' more creativity, more intention & impact.
