KEVIN SMITH FILMOGRAPHY MARATHONAfter Yoga Hosers, something quite big happened to Kevin Smith. Not a new child. Not a new big culture-shifting movie. But a heart attack. What happens to Kevo's career and filmography when the man is faced with death itself and has to confront it? Jay and Silent Bob Reboot happens: the most Kevin Smith movie ever made.In this View-Askew installment, determined to avenge their legal defeat to Saban Films, Jay and Silent Bob set out for LA to try and stop the shooting of a film being produced by the company (sounds a bit familiar). And on top of this, Kevo brings out an anthology horror film in the shape of an NFT (the less said about this one, the better).Rhys and Kane explore the start of a very existential version of Kevo, that has now shifted to a worldview that every day he has on earth is one gifted to him by fate.Podcast Instagram: @marathonme_officialPodcast Facebook page: @marathonmeofficalEmail: marathonmepodc@gmail.com
KEVIN SMITH FILMOGRAPHY MARATHONIt seems the View-Askew bible is ACTUALLY closed now and we're onto a new phase for Kevo. Who would've known this next phase was making other people's movies? On one hand, the director steals Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks to make his own Judd Apatow movie, and on the other, he borrows Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan and someone else's script to make a buddy cop film. Is this even the same guy we came to know and love as teenagers?Rhys and Kane dive head-first into this new phase and see which proves to be the kindest for the film maker that if anything... seems a bit lost at this point in his career.Podcast Instagram: @marathonme_officialPodcast Facebook page: @marathonmeofficalEmail: marathonmepodc@gmail.com
KEVIN SMITH FILMOGRAPHY MARATHONOur friend Kevo takes a step in a new direction - one towards a more mature film... a Spike Lee film (in Rhys' opinion). When two comic book artists meet a girl, one of them falls for her but the man's hopes are crushed when he finds that she is a lesbian.Kane and Rhys jump on this third entry to the View-Askew-niverse and debate over whether its the best direction for Kevin to take his subject matter a little more seriously, or if it comes across as too pretentious for anyone's good. KEVIN SMITH FILMOGRAPHY MARATHONMarathon Me takes on another director. Feels a bit soon, doesn't it? Well, this one has been a long time coming. Rhys and Kane dive into the View-Askew-niverse, and look at all the films of Kevin Smith. The rightful and only place to start is Smith's first major hit that took indie-wood by storm. A simple and humble effort filmed entirely in and around a convenience store, all self-funded from Kevin's own credit card. The 90s gem is none-other than 'Clerks'.This old favourite of Rhys and Kane's holds a special role to play in their friendship - but this watch is a bit different: with this being the first time they're watching it as individuals older than our main characters. How does this change their impression of 'Clerks'?Podcast Instagram: @marathonme_officialPodcast Facebook page: @marathonmeofficalEmail: marathonmepodc@gmail.com

Our exit today has us taking a stab at popular slasher movies and the Kevin Williamson oeuvre. This week, we are talking about the Wayans Brothers' Scary Movie, and the debut of Anna Faris. And we are bringing along our favorite bad movie and horror aficionado Mike Merrigan (from our Dogma episode) for the ride. Along the way, we go into a deep dive of horror in the 90s and the importance of Scream, Drew Barrmore vs. Melissa Joan Hart, Laverne & Shirley, the View Askew-averse, bullet time, talking in movie theatres, and several Tom Stoppard references. And it all ends with Tripp officially breaking Ross. Find Mike on the Filmjitsu podcast. Thememusic by Jonworthymusic. Powered by RiversideFM. CFF Films with Ross and friends. It's been a somber week, Slackers. The world has seemingly gone crazy, and we lost a true Gen X Icon - Shannen Doherty. Her career is filled with movies and TV shows that were a part of our childhood into young adulthood - from her early role in Little House on the Prairie, the family drama Our House, the cult classic (and one of my favorites) Heathers, the Gen X primetime soap opera, Beverly Hills 90210, another cult classic in Mallrats, and finally her starring role in Charmed - Shannen Doherty was not only a star, but one of our stars. After numerous heath issues, including Crohn's disease, it was a second diagnosis of breast cancer that ultimately led to her untimely passing. Fairly or unfairly, Shannen was often times labeled as difficult to work with, a fact she readily acknowledged, but spent the last months (years really) of her life trying to set the record straight and repairing relationships. That is hard for anyone to face with death approaching, yet she did this with dignity and grace.Rest in peace, Shannen Doherty.

What happens when Ben Affleck and Matt Damon play two fallen angels hellbent on getting back to heaven? Protests apparently. Join us as we look at Kevin Smith's fourth film Dogma as part of our ongoing celebration of the films of 1999. On this film's 25th anniversary we take a look in the rearview of the View Askew universe to evaluate the casting, controversies, and acclaim of a film much maligned on its release, and now desperately hard to find. With a cast including Chris Rock, Alan Rickman, and a special appearance by Alanis Morissette it seems like Kevin Smith rallied some of the heavenliest creatures for this exploration of faith, dogmatic law, and fast food franchises.
Mark and Jonny Numb discuss the 1997 independent film A Better Place. Produced by Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, and directed by Vincent Pereira, the movie focuses on the ill-fated friendship between two high school outcasts. In this episode they also talk about 1990's independent cinema, View Askew productions, and literate maniacs. Enjoy!

Yer boyz celebrate a momentous occasion by honoring the films of Kevin Smith. PLUS: the evolution of martial arts; changing the buffet game; and BIG-ASS Sharks!!! We Got: THE MEG - BLOODSPORT- THE RAID - HEAT -Are you Tom Brady or Casey Anthony? And every View Askew film ranked!
As the Big Bracket draws near, with Episode 600 a mere 17 episodes and a summer season away, it's time to crank up the entries... and what better way to bring in a plethora, a cornucopia, a tundra if you will of iconic roles, than to have a Mega Tourney with over 60 famous and beloved characters from cinema and film and movie flicker shows... But to do something so big, we have to have a big roster of Friends of the Show... Spawn of Ryfun, Lil G, Garrison.... the father of the Spawn of Ryfun, that being Scotty RyRy... and the pride of The Beaches of Cheyenne, Roth from Wyoming. Together with d$, Mikey, and #TwitterlessDrEarl, they dive in to figure out the battles between View Askew and Aurora, Illinois... between dimwits and stoners... between classic duos both odd and slapsticky... And Garrison makes a surprise turn in his quest to see Ethan Hunt win the whole tourney. A betrayal if you will. And who knew these guys loved Twilight so much? Featured in the tournament: Harry & Lloyd Ricky Bobby & Cal Jay & Silent Bob Wayne & Garth Harold & Kumar Bill & Ted Romy & Michelle Tai, Dionne, and Cher Jules & Vincent Thelma & Louise Johnny Utah & Bohdi Lone Star & Dark Helmet Ethan & Luther Goose & Maverick Tango & Cash Murtaugh & Riggs Frodo & Samwise Legolas & Gimli Jack & Rose Johnny & Baby Forrest & Bubba Rocky & Apollo Qui Gon & Darth Maul Neo & Morpheus Marty & Doc Jake & Elwood Abbott & Costello Oscar & Felix Andy & Red Tyler & Narrator Dom & Brian Edward & Jacob

Two fallen angels (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) who were ejected from paradise find themselves banned in Wisconsin. They are now headed for New Jersey where they find a loophole that can get them back into heaven. The only catch is that it will destroy humanity. A group bands together to stop them.

PUBLIC VERSION. For THE MOVIE CRYPT's special 500th episode Adam, Joe, and Arwen sit down with one of their biggest cinematic heroes and a true icon of independent filmmaking… the great Kevin Smith (CLERKS 1-3, MALLRATS, DOGMA, CHASING AMY, RED STATE, TUSK, JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK)! From an in-depth discussion about the changing landscape of theatrical film distribution and the joys of touring with a movie… to how the sound of a happy audience can keep you addicted to filmmaking no matter how painful and heartbreaking the process can be at times… to the importance of making the films you want to see as opposed to the films that you think might sell… to how Kevin defined his unique storytelling voice and created his own “View-Askew” universe… to turning what used to be known as “easter eggs” into “bread crumbs”… to the pros and cons of taking swings outside of whatever genre you may have first arrived in or be best known for working in… to Kevin's philosophy that audiences who are yearning for something real and honest will forgive obvious budget limitations as long as they can feel that the movie they're watching was made from the heart… to the importance of being both master of your cinematic ship and servant to your audience… to always putting on a great show for the people who showed up and not worrying about the people who didn't… to how Kevin recovered from Hollywood disillusionment and a near life ending heart attack… there are few artists who embody THE MOVIE CRYPT's “never give up” mantra as perfectly as Kevin Smith who (even after 30 years in the business) continues to believe that movies can save the world. Prepare to learn, to laugh, and to cry with this beautiful and highly inspirational conversation that was 500 weeks in the making. To our beloved Patrons who support this weekly podcast and who we in turn have continued to work so hard for week after week for the last decade- we share this amazing milestone with YOU. Thank you for 500 episodes! We have no doubt that you're going to enjoy the hell out of the 2nd hour of this fantastic conversation! - AG, JL, & A

"Bow to your masters, dirty criminal scum! Bow to your masters!" We here at Disenfranchised are saddened by the loss of the great Kevin Conroy... almost as saddened as we are the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm had a direct-to-video sequel (making it ineligible for us to cover). Instead, we're forced to take on a movie we'd all but forgotten existed, but one that allows us to chat about Kevin Smith, his View Askew-niverse, and eulogize the late Conroy. Where does this film rank amongst the other Askew-niverse films? How has pot affected Smith's filmmaking? Can any other Batman actor even compete with Conroy in terms of overall supremacy? Listen in as we tackle all these subjects and so many more! The movies of Kevin Smith have had a huge impact on us spanning the past four decades. Smith's intelligent philosophy, random musings, pop culture dialogue and quick humor has been a huge inspiration for us and we now get to show our appreciation for someone who introduced us to Snowba...er, um, talents like Jason Lee and Jason Mewes (among countless others). Kevin Smith grew up on the comedies and comedians we grew up with and loved, he understood his audience because he was (and still is) us. Ronnie Adams and Mark Radulich present their Kevin Smiths Clerks Trilogy Review. Clerks is a 1994 American black-and-white buddy comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith (in his feature directorial debut), produced and edited by Smith and Scott Mosier, and starring Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Lisa Spoonhauer, Jason Mewes, Smith, and Mosier. It presents a day in the lives of store clerks Dante Hicks (O'Halloran) and Randal Graves (Anderson) as well as their acquaintances. It is the first of Smith's View Askewniverse films, and introduces several recurring characters, notably Jay and Silent Bob (Mewes and Smith respectively). It is often regarded as a cult classic and a landmark in independent filmmaking. In 2019, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The live-action, feature film sequel to Clerks was released on July 21, 2006. The working title was The Passion of the Clerks, though the film was released under the title Clerks II. The credits for Dogma stated "Jay and Silent Bob will return in Clerks 2: Hardly Clerkin' "; however, that project "evolved" into Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The sequel features Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran reprising their roles as Dante Hicks and Randal Graves. The two now work at a Mooby's restaurant after the latter's incompetence resulted in the destruction of the Quick Stop and RST Video. Clerks III is a 2022 American comedy film written, produced, directed, and edited by Kevin Smith and stars Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Trevor Fehrman, Austin Zajur, Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson, and Smith. It serves as a standalone sequel to the 1994 and 2006 Clerks films, and is the ninth overall feature film set in the View Askewniverse. In the film, Randal Graves, who after surviving a massive heart attack, enlists his friends and fellow clerks Dante Hicks, Elias Grover, and Jay and Silent Bob to make a movie about their lives at the Quick Stop Convenience store that started it all. Golgothan Guastini Special Effects Get M.A.D. with Chris Graves 8-28-2022 Vincent GuastiniThis podcast is uncut and slightly longer than the standard one-hour show we usually get from Chris.Notes By Chris Graves:I'd like to welcome motion picture/television makeup & special effects master, Vincent J. Guastini! I once had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Guastini in 2007, for filmmaker Kevin Smith's official news website, Newsaskew, now defunct, unfortunately.Vincent started his own special make-up effects company at the age of 22, originally in New Jersey and New York for 15 years, and then later in Hollywood for 19 years. Specializing in prosthetics, creature effects, design, and animatronics. His big breakthrough film came in 1991 when asked to take over the prosthetic effects for Michael Mann's 60-million dollar film "The Last of the Mohicans" for 20th Century Fox. After this film, Vincent went on to supervise and design creature effects for various studio and independent films. In 2001 Vincent moved his company to the West Coast and is now one of the top effects & design studios in Hollywood where Vincent lives and is based for the past 20 years.Vincent's practical effects work is mostly known for his 30-plus years in the business of creating the groundbreaking animatronic wings and creature effects in Kevin Smith's film "Dogma" and for Darren Aronofsky's film, "Requiem for a Dream", he designed sculpted and applied prosthetics changing Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Burstyn into a thinning decaying woman. The prosthetic transformation made Vincent an Oscar hopeful that year and is looked at as one of the most convincing transformations in prosthetic makeup history for subtlety and realism. He later worked with Aronofsky again on the film "Aftermath" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger where Vincent's team created silicone bodies for a graphic plane crash.Guastini's other groundbreaking effects include the first use of silicone technology with fire victim effects for Clint Eastwood's "Letters of Iwo Jima" and "Flags of Our Father". Other films include the Bryan Singer-produced horror film hit "The Taking of Deborah Logan". With the help of prosthetic silicone appliances and puppets, Vincent and his team transformed actress Jill Larson into a crazed demonic possessed creature.Film History & Background:V.G.P. We've had the pleasure of hanging with the man on a few sets, and sharing his love and passion for the cool practical effects that he creates. Vincent's not only a way cool, down-to-earth guy, but he also has been effectively keeping the beauty of real, actual creatures and effects in film, making new strides and creating never-before-seen visuals that just wouldn't look the same in CGI. We applaud him for that. You may recognize some of Guastini's effects in the View Askew flicks Vulgar, Dogma, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. He also MIGHT be on board for "Red State" (lips tightened but fingers crossed) and even designed some test stuff for the Green Hornet flick that never was. In January 2020, Smith revealed that development on a sequel film has started again, this time under the title Twilight of the Mallrats. First time you saw the movie? Plot:The film opens at the Governors Ball, the Gov emerges, drunk. Jared Svenning approaches her about some money he was promised, he tells her about his tv station, the one that draws the lotto numbers, and how they're putting on a live show this weekend from the mall. The camera pans up to Brandi stargazing, trying to finish a paper, when TS finds her, and asks if shes coming to watch his last performance. As they part, looking forward to a Florida trip, Brandi tells TS shes helping her father with a tv dating game, so she can't go with him. Brandis hair gets caught in the trigger, prompting security to return fire. They realize its Svennings daughter, and the governor tears up his check. TS tries to apologize, and Svenning tells him off. Brandi breaks up with him, even after he says he was going to propose in Florida. Cut to intro credits. Brodie is woken up by Rene, they argue about breakfast, and Rene confesses that she cries in the bathroom, Brodie asks why, (SOUND 1)C. As she exits his room, so his mom doesn't see her, she breaks up with him. TS arrives to Brodies with the press close behind. The commiserate being dumped by their women. Brodie thinks he was dumped because he farted when Rene was going down on him the week prior, then he suggests going to the mall. They head to Brandis house, but the press are waiting, so Brodie runs interference and tells some wild stories about satanic masses and goat sex...Trey, does it remind you of Fraternity initiation? As Brandi and TS attempt to make up, he becomes super possessive and she pulls away again. Svenning is caught naked, and chases everyone away. They finally arrive at the mall, with Brodie giving TS some hard truths. S:-TS calling her stupid science major... Mmmm... Nah.-Ever fart on a girl going down on you?-TS just tries to "forget about" what happened...-Rooker doing the boxing in the mirror... Def see "stump" when the towel falls. Never noticed that before...-I also don't remember the musket in the hair thing As they enter the mall, Brodie is bumped into by Shannon, the manager of fashionable male. Tense words are exchanged, and they carry on, to find a stage being built. Looking for answers, they ask Willam, who is trying to see a magic eye poster (SOUND 2), but he informs them the stage is for Svennings show. Brodie suggests sabotaging the show/stage, enter Jay and Silent Bob (SOUND 3). They agree to wreak havoc by removing one critical cross beam, while trying to avoid Mall Cop LaFlours. Willam looses his shit when a little girl sees a schooner (SOUND 4)...followed by Brodie explainning how Superman would, or wouldn't be able to have sex with women (SOUND 5)...then if the cookie shack is part of the food court (which it's not). Brodie approaches Rene and gets set straight. Jay and Silent Bob attempt their first plan, (SOUND 6) which is derailed by a kids wooden toy and Bob crashes into the womens change room. After a weird segue, Brodie and TS meet Trisha who is 15 and writing a book about the Sexual drive of men 18-30...and it's revealed she slept with Shannon, and 49 other dudes, like Tucker, while Brodie can't let go of the kid on the escalator. Trying to get into the comic shop, and he almost starts a fight, finally finding out Stan Lee is signing comics. Jay and Silent Bob try plan #2, with Bob flying through the air, over LaFlours...but missing the pin and crashing into another womens change room. TS and Brodie commiserate again about Stan Lee and being broken up with, when Jay and Silent Bob hide from LaFlours, and give up on trashing the stage... when they see Rene with Shannon. TS runs interferance, and Brodie takes her in the elevator, so they can scream and argue at each other, when she attacks his libedo, and they have sex in the elevator... Which doesn't change anything, and she calls his dick small. Gwen surprises TS, and he elbows her in the tit, telling him she saw Brandi by the stage. He goes and to confronts Svenning, who admits he did want them to break up. TS, Brodie and Gwen share some exposition, and history, with Brodie using where to put your arm when you sleep with someone as a metaphor for his relationship with Rene. Brodie goes to get a drink, and Shannon grabs him, and kicks the shit out of him, eventually telling him his plan of banging her somewhere very uncomfortable, like the back of a Volkswagon, Brodie agrees to leave her alone, and Shanon leaves...without leaving him $20. m S:-Were ya'll able to do the magic eye posters?-They use a LOT of words and don't say anything.-Weirdest place you've ever had sex?-Anyone else think its gross she tries on panties like that?-Whichever version I'm watching, there are a lot of differences, and the beating went MUCH longer than I remember. TS and Gwen find Brodie, who blames the easter bunny for kicking his ass. Jay and Silent Bob then go assault the easter bunny, with the kids joining in. Gwen goes and tells Brandi TS is there and that he's a great guy. Svennings assistant comes to fetch TS, and Brodie suggests TS stink palm him, using his own hand as an example. TS speaks with Svenning, which he's obviously is stalling for time, and takes issue when TS mentions marrying Brandi, he tells a bit about their history, her mother being 15, himself 14 when she was born. Explaining to him how and why TS will not marry his daughter because of her bright future, and that he has no ambition, no chance of making it, and he will not be marrying his daughter. Brodie arrives, and applies said stink palm, even giving some chocolate covered pretzels, which he greedily eats. Security pounces on the boys, and takes him away, with Svenning keeping the pretzels... As the security guards drag TS and Brodie, they yell at Renae to get Jay and Silent Bob, who she finds with Willam staring at the magic eye, setting up one of the best jokes in the movie, when Willam looks at Rene and says, "Brenda?" Jay and Silent Bob rescue Brodie and TS from security, and then grapple hook to safety. Brodie and TS hide at the 'dirt mall' and go to get some sage advice from Ivana, the topless palm reader. TS is totally against the topless reading, but Brodie is into it... Until she takes off her top, and they switch. Brodie is grossed out, and TS becomes enamored. As they leave, she peels of the thrid nipple and eats it. They return to the mall, with his plan to get on the tv show. TS approaches Jay and Silent Bob for help. Brodie is oogling some lingerie, when he's approached by Stan Lee. S:-I remember the stink palm, but have any of y'all ever done it? Jay approaches the contestants to smoke them out. Brodie is asking Stan Lee all sorts inappropriate questions about super heros dicks, and like Tucker, was disappointed when he wouldn't tell (SOUND 6.5). Stan talks with him about relationships and women, which Stan had a running count with Mick Jagger, and that he was ahead. He gives Brodie a long story about the one that got away, and how he'd give everything up for one more day with her (SOUND 7). He leaves, and Brodie takes off. TS thanks Stan for talking to Brodie, who has gotten Silent Bob and Trisha to help him. TS and Brodie take the place of the two suiters Jay smoked out. Svenning barfs when he sees TS and Brodie on the stage. Brandi comes on stage (like I've done once or twice), and starts asking questions to the suiters, with some fairly funny responses(SOUND 8). Brodie continues make fun of every answer Gil makes, making everyone laugh, and infuriating Svenning. They continue, when Brodie tells a story about his uncle started beating off on an airplane when they think they're going to die. Brandi figures out TS and Brodie are on the stage, and they have their confrontation. Brodie eloquently sums everything up (SOUND 9) Everyone applauds, except Gill and Svenning. Outside, the police arrives. Stan Lee walks by Willam commenting, "oh, a sailboat" sending Willam on a rage. As the host is wrapping up the show, and Brodie confesses his love for Rene, and Shannon starts to come at him to beat him again, Silent Bob is trying to reach the tape that was dropped, as Willam laments about not seeing the sail boat, Brodie calls on Silent Bob, who can't reach the tape, Willam hits the support, knocking the tape in to Bobs hands as he was trying to jedi mind trick it, with a look directly at the camera, he plays the tape of Shannon banging Trisha, and the cops arrest him. The cops allow one punch to the gut... Is that a California law? I know in Alabama we get WAY more punches before and after being arrested, right Tucker? Jay asks Bob how the got the tape, with the Jedi mind trick, prompting Bobs only line: "Adventure, excitement, a Jedi craves not these things." Brodie and Rene make up. Svenning is trying to convince the network guys to give him another shot, that they decline, but want Brodie for a network talk show host. Svenning is arrested for FCC violations... As it ends, Brodie has taken over hosting duties of the Tonight Show, but still lives with his parents. Rene became his band leader, Svenning got his network position, in prison. TS and Brandi got married when Jaws pops out of the water at Universal Studios, Tricias book spent 72 weeks on the new york times best seller list, with a movie coming out (with LaFlours running her security, and probably a few trains). Shannon made new friends in prison, and Willam eventually saw the boat, Jay and Silent Bob is a whole different story... roll credits. Loses something over the years.
