POPULARITY
Okay so I have already abandoned my initial intention of one world punchy titles for this season - but thats okay, no rules here and anyway I could not sum up this convo in one word.Super pumped to offer the first episode of our story telling season with a conversation on Mothers through the generations with my Mum, Pauline. Our conversation blooms around four major conversation points:Differences of Mothering in 1954 (my Grandmother), 1989 (my Mother) and 2022 (me). Think expectations, support, co-parenting, education and lifestyle in all 3 generations. We came across some alarming parallels. Learning to advocate for yourself as a (human being and) Mother in your relationship.Gender roles and their expiration date.Respecting Women, respecting Mothers. Please note there are themes of Domestic Violence spoken about in this episode.

As Joe and I welcomed the goomah to our lively discussion, we couldn't help but dive into the drama of urban pet etiquette, beginning with Joe's dog and an uncooperative Uber driver. It's a jungle out there for pet parents, and we navigate the thicket of traveling with our furry companions, debating everything from the back of truck beds to the choice of self-defense on those late-night walks. But why stop at our four-legged friends? Credit card charges sneak up like stealthy cats, and our brush with a forgotten water bill shows just how quickly convenience turns into a cold shower of reality. Then, the conversation flows as easily as the water in our shared shower quirks. Who knew the length of a shower could reveal so much about a person's life philosophies? Whether it's gym hygiene or the secrets behind that perfectly coiffed hair, we uncover the odd, the meticulous, and the downright hilarious in our daily routines. But it's not all soap and water; we chew over diet and health, pondering the veracity of food fads and questioning whether a well-toned physique truly equals wisdom in nutrition. Cranking up the volume, we strum through topics of expensive hobbies like those high-priced LEGO sets and rare guitars, teasing out who's really playing with these grown-up toys. The tempo shifts as we reflect on musicians like Eminem and Kid Rock, unboxing their unshakeable personas and the culture they embody. Our candid symphony crescendos into personal revelations about body insecurities and self-consciousness, before winding down with musings on language evolution and the sentimental value of possessions. Be sure to stick around for the finale as we reminisce on video game nostalgia and the tender subject of family planning, wrapping it all up with our 'ever forward' beat. — 01X23 Notes — Jen appears on Bottom of the Smash Mountain to talk with me about how women in the smash community have experienced the entire context of negativity based on their gender. We speak in general terms as best we can, but you should still make sure that you are ready to hear about more sensitive topics. Sp1nda's video on YouTube that we talked about, regarding why there are not more women in the Smash Community: https://youtu.be/fZhPaszgLzY excesstigress's twitlonger that we talked about, regarding her personal journey in the Smash Community: https://twitter.com/excesstigress/status/1362909156911513602?s=21 Our intention of recording this conversation is to raise awareness of women's stories. We also recorded this to say that we want to help the message that women should be welcomed and feel safe in not only the Smash Community, but anywhere in general. We tried as best we could to use proper terms, but if we got something wrong feel free to correct us. Jen doesn't have a Twitter, but she has an Instagram she declined to share. If you have feedback for her specifically, you can share it in the review section of this podcast on whatever platform you are listening to this on. We talked about our faith and why that shapes what we believe concerning better treatment of everyone in general, specifically women in this particular conversation. We talk about our faith at the end, so it is not a part of the entire conversation. — About the pod — Welcome to Bottom of the Smash Mountain Podcast. I am your host, Jesse Wall, and my pronouns are he/him. I have a wife, Jen, and two children Ellie and Ezra. I love God, my family, my fellow humans, Super Smash Brothers, and the Philadelphia Eagles. My tag is cyfer003 but if you look that up you will only find my socials and no actual tournament results. I like to think that I'm good at Smash but I actually suck, and so in the grand scheme of things I am at the bottom of the smash mountain looking up. Aside from Smash related things, we also get into other topics. If you like what you hear (you are a brave soul btw, forcing your way through not-great audio), please share with people you like sharing stuff with. Those relationships are weird aren't they? ;) This is a family-friendly podcast, but if there are swears I will let y'all know in the episode notes. Don't get your hopes up for time-stamps, because this is a bit of a lazy podcast as well. Despite that, I try my best to give credit where credit is due in regards to sources and such. I also make a concerted effort to avoid ripping other people's content, but if anyone feels that I did that kind of stuff, my DM's are open on Twitter; we can get it figured out. Did I say something that offended you? Usually I am trying not to be offensive to anyone, but my attempts at humor might result in that. Either that or I'm being dumb. Either way, feel free to reach out and educate me so that you and I can level up :) Jesse's Twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/cyfer003 BSM Twitter: https://twitter.com/bsmpod?s=21 #BSMPod — Credits — Podcast Image and “logo”: The picture was taken by Jesse Wall and I used https://imgflip.com/memegenerator to throw the words and a scuffed reflector onto it, which I guess belongs to Nintendo but you could make the argument that what I did was pretty transformative.
