Did you know Mike Schur doesn't love Hawaiian Pizza? Such an informative, jam-packed episode and this is just the beginning of the end! (Of Season 6) ALSO the similarities I found between Friends (the TV show) and Parks is kind of hilarious! Deleted scenes, a TON of blooper reel scenes, surprises (and reproductive information) at the doctor's office, Keegan Michael Key AND guest star voice memos?! WHAT A DAY! Plus, the writers did such a great job showing us the amazing love and balance that Leslie and Ben share. Thank you so much to Teresa Reilly aka Kitty Goodbye, our pharmacist that tells Leslie she most likely doesn't have the flu. What an amazing memory and the joy of her story is SO fun and wonderful. Love it or hate it, few foods spark as much debate as Hawaiian pizza. But here's the kicker: it's not Hawaiian at all...it's Canadian. That's right, pineapple-on-pizza was invented in Ontario in the 1960s by a Greek immigrant named Sam Panopoulos, and somehow it went on to divide the planet into Team Pineapple vs. Team Purist. In this episode of Canada is Boring, we chew over the bizarre origin story of Hawaiian pizza, why it's Canada's most controversial culinary export, and how one small-town restaurant ended up changing the global pizza conversation forever. Expect tangy history, saucy opinions, and maybe a few cheesy jokes along the way.All our links:https://bio.to/canboringThis podcast is hosted two idiots and created purely for entertainment purposes. Rerun. Sam Panopoulos, creator of the Hawaiian pizza, died on 8th June, 2017 at the age of 83. Originally Greek, he moved to Ontario, Canada at the age of 20 and opened a restaurant where he experimented with toppings far beyond the typical ‘60s triumvirate of mushroom/bacon/pepperoni. Alongside a Chinese-American chef, he kick-started an international appetite for ham and pineapple that grows to this day - the Hawaiian becoming America's favourite delivery pizza topping in 2021. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly consider the merits of ‘Irish pizza' (corn beef, cabbage and potato...); reveal that the ‘super-boring' Napolitana was itself only ‘invented' in 1889; and attempt to establish if the Hawaiian pizza is actually popular in Hawaii… Further Reading: • Sam Panopoulos's obituary on CBC News' ‘The National' (2017): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DccNpObmrjk • The Guardian's obituary to Panopoulos (2017): https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/jun/10/sam-panapoulos-inventor-of-hawaiian-pizza-dies-aged-83 • An alternative history? This season, as you know, is all about the journeys of some of the world's most fascinating foods, and for each episode we release, we're hosting live listening sessions with content creators from around the world to give us more insight into the subject at hand.Last week we listened to the season debut, which was about Hawaiian pizza, and we had the pleasure of talking to Elijah, a Native Hawaiian educator, content creator, and head of thewellness organization Awakened Aloha, which he cofounded with his wife. Elijah gave us some amazing insight into several topics that we weren't able to cover in our episode; such as thelittle-known reason why Hawaiian-grown pineapples are tastier, and the complicated relationship with the pineapple cannery that many of his family members worked in for decades. This episode is an abridged version of the discussion we held after listening to episode 1 (Hawaiian Pizza), so if you haven't already, please go listen to that one before making your way to this one! Opening a restaurant is notoriously hard: Long hours, thin margins, and a high chance of failure. The people who choose that path are either heroic, foolish, or a little bit of both. But to open a restaurant during a global pandemic? Well, that's a whole new level of are-you-kidding-me. This week on the podcast, Amanda asks Eric See (chef and owner of Ursula in Brooklyn, New York) and Subrina Collier (co-owner of Leah and Louise in Charlotte, North Carolina) what in the world they were thinking, how it's been going, and whether or not they'd do it again. And Chef Michael Carter from another new restaurant, Down North Pizza in Philly, pops in to defend pineapple on pizza and share more toppings combos he loves. Content Warning: This episode contains graphic content. Welcome back to the hottest podcast in America, literally. Hosted by FDNY Hero and renowned advocate for firefighters, Rob Serra. Every kid grows up dreaming of scoring the winning touchdown, the last second basket, the game winning goal. And every once in a while those dreams come true. But the reality is that most of the time those dreams are never realized. And even when they are, most of us never see the sacrifice that goes into those dreams. The sacrifices the parents make, the siblings. The weight of those dreams is carried by a lot of people. And that's something firefighters know a lot about. Sacrifice. Duty. Being a part of something bigger than yourself. That's what being a part of a team is all about. And this week's guest, Anthony Greco, is the embodiment of one of those dreams. He's a homegrown hero. The son of a firefighter and a nurse. He works his ass off and this spring he had a chance to get on the ice for the Rangers. It was a special moment. For him, for his family, and for the community of firefighters in New York that knew his father and 9/11 first responder, Paul Greco. So as the Rangers head into the conference finals we've got a great conversation to help get you fired up. “Never forget” isn't just a hashtag here. If you're one of America's Firefighters, a first responder, or the family or a friend of one, this is your new home. And no home is complete without a kitchen. This week Frankie imakes Chris Kreider's favorite meal, gluten free Hawaiian pizza. It's a long way from a slice of New York pie but honestly it's pretty darn delicious and we think your family will love it. Are you a firefighter that has a great story to share? The title of the episode being self-explanatory, the event that took place at the 94th Academy Awards with the altercation between Chris Rock and Will Smith became the cold open of the podcast that EstoBro and TV had to talk about. The pair share their opinions (2:00) and the most recent results of the dust settling between the two super stars. After the major headline being discussed, TV also reflects on what happened at his bar over the weekend with meeting Christopher McDonald (13:15), better known as Shooter McGavin from the hit sports film Happy Gilmore. The discussion of sports being on the brain has the Gents reflect on the results of March Madness so far (20:10) including the infamous Cinderella story of the St. Peters Peacocks and the storybook ending to Coach Mike Krzyzewski leading his Duke Blue Devils to another Final Four in the tournament. EstoBro reflects going to the movies over the weekend, also to reach for the hype that surrounds the new Sonic the Hedgehog 2 live action film (30:00). He also inclines the question that if this is the major requirement when it comes to video game movies, as opposed to live action video films have been not come close to satisfactory by any means for video game fans. The show reaches the climax for the episode with major discussion on what qualifies as a pizza (41:20) as EstoBro reveals to TV a new blend of toppings that came from a soccer match in Japan. The debate reaches new limits, especially with the surprise EstoBro had reserved for TV in order to hear a live reaction on the podcast.

How am I supposed to tip you if your tip jar is invisible? Why did you build a kitchen-stage if there's no food-show? Why would god have given you taste buds if hating olives were in any way acceptable? Why is an 11 year old eating at Maestro's?? Clearly Coop and Myan are obsessed with food and restaurant related oddities this week and rightfully so, don't we all enjoy dining? don't we all somewhat obsess over our own epicurean proclivities? Are we not meant to EAT? Are we not meant to LIVE??!! I truly think Jesus himself would have had a yelp account. (How's the fish? It's a little dry.) So forget what you thought you knew about Linguini Vongole, re-evalute your existing relationship with pork buns, take a break from steak and start your culinary tryst with the sea and Unofficial will share it's tightly gaurded secret about one of the best, most affordable, old-school pizza places on the entire west side...The Coop. No not our Coop, the Coop. Stop being confused, just hit play, you lazy bastard. So if it's bad Chinese food, underwhelming ramen, 24 hour Polish restaurants in NYC, posh farm-to-table bakeries in Venice, undersized fish vs. behemoth beef, Hawaiian Pizza or Myan's completely inappropriate name for the best bagel build recipe in the universe, Unofficial has something for the foodie this week. Truth be told it's just a matter of time before this social experiment becomes an excuse to just talk about food and little else. Probably start a whole new show altogether about nothing but eating and Mixed Martial Arts...probably call it Food Fight.
