Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
Teddy Long invites us into the unfiltered world of professional wrestling, bringing decades of ringside experience to a conversation that spans from Hall of Fame revelations to backstage brawls that never made it to television. The wrestling legend shares his genuine excitement about Lex Luger's upcoming WWE Hall of Fame induction, offering a refreshingly positive perspective from their years working together. "I never had not one problem out of Luger. He was always nice to me," Teddy reveals, providing contrast to Luger's own admissions about his difficult past. When our discussion shifts to current WWE storylines, particularly the John Cena heel turn and WrestleMania buildup, Teddy defends WWE's methodical approach: "They turned him heel. Now you got suspense. People are wondering now what's next." His old-school perspective on patient storytelling stands as a thoughtful counterpoint to today's faster-paced entertainment expectations. The most riveting moments come when Teddy pulls back the curtain on genuine locker room altercations, recounting how Road Warrior Hawk and "Dr. Death" Steve Williams once locked themselves in a room to settle their differences physically – a stark reminder of wrestling's rougher past when disputes were handled differently than today's corporate environment.Whether you're fascinated by wrestling history, curious about today's product, or simply enjoy unfiltered conversations with legendary personalities, this candid discussion with Teddy Long delivers authentic insights that only someone who lived through wrestling's most transformative eras could provide. Join us for stories you won't hear anywhere else, told with the straightforward honesty that has made Teddy a beloved figure in professional wrestling.Send us a text
In a “pinch me, I'm dreaming” episode, Dickie Wabash sits down with wrestling legend Harker Dirge to have an incredible one on one discussion. Harker has decided to break his absence from the world of wrestling to sit down and discuss a wide variety of topics. Harker talks about his time training with the late, great “Exotic” Adrian Street, the valuable lessons he learned from him, how different the business was when he started vs how it is now, the internet's impact on wrestling and how he saw it change in real time, his strange connection to the movie The Wrestler, and Harker also takes the time to (as he puts it) drop a few names including Rhyno, Christian Cage, Road Warrior Hawk, The Iron Sheik, Men on a Mission and so many more that he was lucky enough to share a card or ring with. This conversation is one you do not want to miss. Please consider supporting us on Patreon! Patrick Moynahan and Alex McDonald kick off the fiftieth episode of PWTorch ‘90s Pastcast discussing issue #206 of the PWTorch including even more trivia, 1992 year-end awards, a full Starrcade ‘92 preview, the final installment of Wade's Torch Talk with Road Warrior Hawk, and so much more. 1992 was a weird year for WCW. The WWF was rolling hard! Meanwhile, WCW had multiple World Titles, Tag Titles, meaningless prizes like The King of Cable and BattleBowl, WCW Champion Ron Simmons wasn't drawing houses, there was no Ric Flair or Four Horsemen, and Bill Watts was booking. This was definitely an interesting period for WCW, who wouldn't hit their boom period for another 3 years. However, they were still loosely affiliated with the NWA, they were bringing in Japanese talent from NJPW, and they were trying their best to build up BattleBowl and the Lethal Lottery at this Starrcade to mean something. That's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for them! Fumi was close friends with Adrian Adonis, Road Warrior Hawk, Jumbo Tsuruta, Masa Saito and more. He's got a unique perspective on the AWA episode of Tales from the territories. He even visited Mr. Saito while he was incarcerated for his role in the Ken Patera/McDonald's incident. An interesting show. Check it out.

In this week's Interview Classic episode from five years ago (10-20-2017), PWTorch editor Wade Keller presents part two of his new interview with Jim Ross followed by a vintage interview from 25 years ago this weekend with Road Warrior Hawk. In the hour-long Ross interview, he discusses how fans have changed over the decades and if that affects his approach to announcing, key historical turning points including what if Bill Watts and not Jim Crockett was Vince McMahon's early primary competitors, could a more sports-like presentation of pro wrestling have taken over the country instead of “sports entertainment” promoted by Vince, the challenge of getting over a babyface in 2017, and more.In the vintage Hawk interview from John Arezzi's “Pro Wrestling Spotlight” radio show in October 1992, Hawk talks about his decision to leave the WWF, compares working for Jim Crockett vs. Vince McMahon, the possibility of a union forming for wrestlers, and more.
For the milestone 50th episode of Once Upon A Turnbuckle, Chris welcomes artist Tom Fleming back to the show for a return visit! In our last meeting, Tom shared many memories from his days as an artist and designer for the WWF/E in the early-90's, where he was responsible for designing the iconic looks for legends such as Razor Ramon, Adam Bomb, 1-2-3 Kid, Papa Shango, amongst many others, and even gave us the unforgettable Thanksgiving-themed artwork for Survivor Series '93. Tom returns to the show to talk about his brand-new wrestling-related NFT art project, in partnership with Fight Capital, for which he has produced 23 original paintings of wrestling legends including Andre The Giant, 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, Kurt Angle, Road Warrior Hawk and the British Bulldogs. We also delve back into his wrestling past to talk about his memories of creating the very sceptre that was used in the coronation ceremony at King of The Ring '93! Another one not to be missed! On WWF Raw is War, Shawn Michaels shows the fans footage of the infamous "Curtain Call" and this gets Vince McMahon all worked up. Owen Hart defends the IC title against Road Warrior Hawk, and "The Hitman" Bret Hart has a grudge match against Triple H. On WCW Nitro a scheduled Macho Man Randy Savage vs Chris Benoit match gets put in jeapordy after Savage gets hurt, Booker T continues his singles run with a match against Jeff Jarrett, and Roddy Piper makes further announcements that the nWo doesn't like.
On this week's episode, Jeremiah and Quinton review two matches. The first match is from the 3-18-1995 episode of WCW Saturday Night. Lord Steven Regal vs Bobby Eaton. The second match is from the 4-1-1990 episode of WCW Main Event. Butch Reed vs Road Warrior Hawk. Thanks for listening and God Bless.
Kris & David are joined this week by our old friend and BTS Patron, Mark Coale (@black_bile), who donated the required $100 to be the guest on the whole show that he requested. Mark requested the week of March 16-22, 1984, and it's a doozy. We open with the WWF, as they are taking over TV slots around the country from other promotions, with our week focusing on the San Francisco Bay Area. We also talk about Andre the Giant entering Piper's Pit for the first time, Akira Maeda's jobbing tour, and other early WWF expansion things. We then move on to the international scene, where we talk about NTV wanting Satoru Sayama to join AJPW but Giant Baba wouldn't stand for it, Riki Choshu running wild in New Japan, Ric Flair & Harley Race trading the NWA Title in/around New Zealand, Ricky Steamboat returning from his 2 month retirement in JCP, Tim Horner scoring a major upset over Road Warrior Hawk on WTBS, and Hacksaw Duggan heeling in Florida en route to returning as a babyface hero in Mid-South that same week. It's also in Mid-South that we have the reason why Mark requested this week: We have Mr. Wrestling II completing his heel turn plus Jim Cornette throwing a big party for the Midnight Express, setting up The Last Stampede in the process. All this and so much more on a great episode of BTS!!!!Timestamps:0:00:00 WWF0:41:14 Int'l: AJPW, NJPW, New Zealand, England, Montreal, Stampede, Vancouver, EMLL, & UWA1:20:24 Classic Commercial Break1:25:06 Halftime (including Scott Hall discussion)2:05:23 USA East: JCP, GCW, CWF, SECW, & Memphis2:39:55 USA West: Mid-South, Central States, WCCW, SWCW, AWA, & Portland4:03:09 Patreon Preview: APW King of the Indies 2001 unintentionally becomes the proof of concept for ROHTo support the show and get access to exclusive rewards like special members-only monthly themed shows, go to our Patreon page at Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and become an ongoing Patron. The same night WCW had Goldberg vs Hollywood Hogan for the World title on Nitro, the WWE countered with a taped show from State College, PA. It wasn't the best show, but the story lines were good enough to make it an excellent show. With the Undertaker, Stone Cold, Mankind, D-Lo Brown, Terry Funk, Vader, Bradshaw, Val Venis, Dustin Runnels, D-Generation X, Ken Shamrock, Savio Vega, Road Warrior Hawk and Mabel, it had plenty of star power. But unfortunately, it has had a couple of matches from Brawl 4 All. (ugh) Conrad watches as Tony looks on for the very first time at Raw from July 6, 1998. Another one of those, WCW/NWA/TBS ventures that was full of talent but slim on great action. What can we say? Any show that has The Shockmaster against The Equalizer cannot be all that great. December 21st, 1998: Vince McMahon leaves the arena to go train for the Royal Rumble, and so he leaves his son Shane in charge for the night. However, that may prove to be a mistake as an out-of-his-element Shane ends up booking himself into his very first wrestling match against Mankind. Triple-H & X-Pac team up to face The Rock and a man who is also making his in-ring debut: Test! Mark Henry & D'Lo Brown are scheduled to face The Headbangers, but "Sexual Chocolate" may not be able to resist the advances of Terri Runnels and Jacqueline. Ken Shamrock puts his Intercontinental Title on the line against "Badd Ass" Billy Gunn.... or does he? WWF Hardcore Champion The Big Boss Man squares off with "The Road Dogg" in what is supposed to be a non-title match, but Jesse James may be able to convince him to put the belt up for grabs. Five weeks after being pushed off the TitanTron, Road Warrior Hawk returns to the WWF and reveals some dark secrets about his relationship with Droz. Even though The Blue Blazer was unmasked last week, the caped superhero returns to seek revenge on Steve Blackman. Gangrel steps into the ring with Al Snow, and a post-match "bloodbath" may cause Al to go completely insane (well okay, more than usual). The Acolytes take on J.O.B. Squad members Bob Holly & Scorpio in what turns out to be the final "Raw" match for the man formerly known as Flash Funk. Plus, Jeff Jarrett rants about what pisses him off, "Classy" Freddie Blassie dresses up as a perverted mall Santa Claus for some reason, and The Corporation shockingly adds a new member to its growing ranks! Meanwhile in WCW, we get the final episode of "Nitro" before the controversial "Starrcade 1998" pay-per-view, with the highlight of the show being Scott Steiner mocking someone for using steroids (yes, seriously). November 15th / 16th, 1998: A new WWF Champion will be crowned in a WWF Title Tournament at "Survivor Series," so we had to bring on Lee Carlos Cunningham from the Raw Is Nitro Podcast to discuss one of his all-time favorite pay-per-views! What happens on this show and on the following night's episode of "Raw"? Join us for this mega-episode and find out! "Survivor Series 1998" Card: Tournament First Round Match: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. The Big Boss Man Tournament First Round Match: The Rock vs. Triple-H(?) Tournament First Round Match: Mankind vs. a mystery opponent Tournament First Round Match: Ken Shamrock vs. Goldust Tournament First Round Match: X-Pac vs. Steven Regal Tournament First Round Match: Al Snow vs. Jeff Jarrett Tournament Quarterfinal Match: The Undertaker vs. Kane (both men have byes in the first round) WWF Tag Team Champions The New Age Outlaws vs. The Headbangers vs. Mark Henry & D'Lo Brown WWF Women's Champion Jacqueline vs. Sable November 16th, 1998 "Monday Night Raw": (***Spoilers for "Survivor Series 1998" below!***) The new "Corporate Champion" The Rock tells the world why he sided with The McMahons, but his celebration is cut short when "Stone Cold" Steve Austin informs him that he is owed a title match tonight! In one of the more infamous segments in the history of "Raw," Road Warrior Hawk climbs the TitanTron and threatens to kill himself on live television as Animal, Droz, and Paul Ellering attempt to calm him down. X-Pac & The New Age Outlaws team up to battle The Oddities, whose alliance with The Insane Clown Posse may be coming to an end. WWF Intercontinental Champion Ken Shamrock calls out The Big Boss Man because he has cost Shamrock several matches over the past few weeks. The unlikely pairing of Goldust & Steve Blackman join forces to take on Jeff Jarrett & The Blue Blazer.... but who exactly is inside the Blazer costume? Val Venis steps into the ring with Mark Henry, although "The World's Strongest Man" appears to be more interested in the returning Chyna. The Godfather and Steven Regal are scheduled to have a match, but "The Real Man's Man" may not be able to pass up the pimp's offer to spend the night with three of his finest hoes. Plus, Mankind seeks revenge on Vince McMahon, Kane wanders around the arena for no apparent reason, and The WWE Network leaves a homophobic slur completely uncensored. Enjoying the Podcast? November 2nd, 1998: After being humiliated by his son Shane last week, Vince McMahon sets out to establish his dominance by bullying wrestlers, commentators, and even a random celebrity backstage! Ken Shamrock puts his Intercontinental Title on the line against The Rock and, if "The People's Champ" doesn't become the actual champ, he will no longer be the #1 contender to the WWF Title. The New Age Outlaws & X-Pac team up to face the newly-formed stable which we now know is called The Brood. Mankind & Al Snow unite for the second week in a row to take on Oddities members Kurrgan & Golga. And speaking of Mankind, Mr. McMahon briefly pauses his reign of terror to give Mick Foley a special gift: the brand new WWF Hardcore Title! The still-injured Dan Severn confronts Owen Hart and accuses him of being The Blue Blazer, but Severn may be in for a surprise by the time the night is over. Val Venis goes one-on-one with Jeff Jarrett in a rematch from the previous night's episode of "Sunday Night Heat." The Headbangers square off against D'Lo Brown & Mark Henry, with the winning team getting a shot at The Outlaws' WWF Tag Team Titles. Road Warrior Hawk is scheduled to face fellow Legion of Doom member Droz.... but it appears that Hawk's personal demons have resurfaced. And on a related note, Steven Regal (who appears to be legitimately intoxicated) debuts his "Real Man's Man" gimmick on "Raw" against a mystery opponent. Plus, Kane goes on a rampage, a steel cage is mysteriously hanging over the ring, and Terri Runnels has a very special announcement! Meanwhile on NBC, the nation's top television network airs a primetime special that reveals the quote-unquote "secrets" of pro wrestling, including one type of elderly fan that you may not expect...
