Hi Bang Fam! What this? A surprise little gift for you, as we head into Festivus! Back in November Myf and Zan headed to Nagambie Lakes, a beautiful spot about 90 mins north of Melbourne, for a huge comedy weekender called Comedy In the Vines. We did a live version of Bang On, amongst stand up sets from Celia Pacquola, Dave Hughes, Geraldine Hickey, and Susie Youssef. It was very silly, it was a bit windy, and we definitely made a giant cut out of ourselves and forced Luke McGregor to play “pin the wine on Myf and Zan”… but we also had some wonderful Bang Backs with two very funny comedians and mates, and wanted to share that with you.So dive in, as Rhys Nicholson bangs on about a podcast Zan is absolutely bingeing this summer, and Luke… well… you should just hear it yourself.Oh, and we're very stoked that we'll finally be bringing Bang On LIVE to the whole country! We've just announced a huge national tour, visiting places we've never been before and bringing Bang On to capital cities and towns alike. We hope to see you at one of the shows. Until then, have a safe, restful, and beautiful New Years. Thank you for your love and support of Bang On this and every year. We love youse heaps. 2014 saw Australian comic Celia Pacquola return to Edinburgh for her fourth Fringe Show. ‘Let Me Know How It All Worked Out' looked at the world of psychics and their promise of foretelling the future; specifically one who said she would never have children. (Spoiler… congratulations are in order, Celia and her partner had their first child earlier this year,). Since the Fringe Pacquola moved frequently between the UK Australia, with various apeprances, scriptwriting, and starring appearances in a wide range of shows on the circuit, including radio work on Fox FM and Radio 4, TV work on Would I Lie To You, Live At The Apollo, and Have You Been Paying Attention, and staring in Rosehaven, and The Breaker Uppers. All that was ahead of her in 2014 when she joined me in the podcast studio to talk about her show. It wasn't the first time she'd been on the Fringe podcast, so the whole ‘tell us about your show' quickly descended into discussions of synchronised diving, Tom Daley, Pro/Am contest, and a love of Converse trainers. This week's trip is back to the Gilded Ballon, back to a time when the future we live in now was quite definitely not going to happen, as Celia Pacquola asks the audience to Let Me Know How It All Works Out,
Our special guests in the studio are Mr Paul Sharp (due to problems with his mic you might notice some odd things about his voice. We apologize!) and the legendary Mighty Murri Man Jalen Sutcliffe, lead singer of the Mentolists, star of the ABC's Black Comedy and Rosehaven. We take a detour today and share with you some of the material we play in our other alter-egos, the Mentolists and the Black Swans of Trespass. We put the trad Tassie stuff and the new album on hold while we play some of our favorite reggae tunes. Yes, on banjo and fiddle. Get over it. Get ready from some hefty YouTube copyright lightning strikes as we plunder material that isn't ours, and may or may not be public domain.Keep an eye - sorry, ear out, for the return of the Gadbot 3000 as we roll out our toys to impress (and confuse) our guests! One love! Irie!!
Everyone's favourite red-headed sports-loving jock returns to the show - that's right, it's Luke McGregor! Luke (star of TV's Rosehaven, Utopia and The Weekly) joins the boys for the first time in a few years to talk in-depth about Elden Ring (spoiler free). The famous From Software fan poses some interesting questions about the game, and now that all of the Filthy Boys are enjoying the game they also enjoy talking about it at length! Plus Ben talks Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin and Tommy dishes on Chocobo GP. Thanks Luke for joining us: it's good to finally have an alpha on the show.NOTE: sorry for the brief moment around 54 minutes, some minor tech issues this week! The boys are performing comedy around the country, and you can get tickets! Luke McGregor is refreshingly honest, totally uncomfortable and hilariously funny. You might known him as one half of the writing and acting team behind the ABC's hit TV series Rosehaven, or from his awkward candidness as the presenter in Luke Warm Sex. In this chat Luke tells Jamila Rizvi what it was like getting bullied at school, why he keeps doing comedy despite suffering crippling panic attacks, plus he recounts his experience getting naked at a nudist colony. Experts say there's a strong correlation between 'shouting-at-the-telly' and the rise in the understanding of Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). Monitoring the hoarse throats of "telly-shouters" experts note that the telly brims full of talking heads fear-mongering about 'tax-payers money', 'the debt burden on future generations' and 'the government going broke'. Very concerning. But seriously, a free and independent media is a bulwark of a healthy, functioning democracy. Increasing attention is being paid to MMT in the media, particularly since the onset of this Covid era. Yet questions about media 'group think' and independence are being brought to the fore by a stubborn bias towards the false, orthodox, neoliberal economic narrative of 'sound finance' and fiscal austerity. A bias that is to the detriment (and ire) of us all. Our guest, Luke McGregor, actor and writer on the highly acclaimed comedy, Rosehaven, and comedian well-known on the stand-up circuit, has fortunately become a champion of MMT in the media. His Lukenomics segment, 'Will Australia Ever Run Out of Money?' on Charlie Pickering's The Weekly and his recent appearance on ABC's Q&A program being wonderful examples of his efforts. You might have seen them on The ABC's Rosehaven or Utopia, but what happens when this on screen team are forced to go head to head, Quizzish style? HOW DO I PLAY? Quizzish is a game that can be played wherever you listen to your podcasts. Walking the dog. On a road trip. At a girls night on a speaker. Anywhere. HOW DOES IT WORK? There are three rounds, and inside every round, 3 games, and three questions per game. Kelly is going to ask questions, you write the answers down, then at the end of each game we’ll have a score count and reveal who was right and who was wrong. For every correct answer, you’ll get a point, for every incorrect answer, you’ll get...well, nothing. WHAT WILL I NEED? Some paper, a pen or your best trivia voice. In this episode I call my friend, Celia, and I tell her a joke.Celia is Celia Pacquola, who is not only a lovely person, but is also genuinely my favourite comedian. If you want to see an incredible hour of stand-up (and you do), watch her show All Talk on Amazon Prime. And if you want to see a wonderful Aussie comedy that she writes and also stars in (and you do want that), watch Rosehaven. And if you want to know what Celia's been up to in lockdown, head over to her instagram page and look at the story highlights called "SCIENCE". Celia Pacquola is a chameleon – a stand up comedian, writer and actor who springs between stage and screen and has become one of our best-loved and most in-demand performers. She was the youngest woman to host the Melbourne Comedy Festival gala and has appeared on Live At the Apollo and the Just For Laughs Montreal Gala. She’s a regular on Channel 10’s Have You Been Paying Attention? And you can see in the smash hit comedy Rosehaven on ABC who she co-created, co-wrote and stars in with Luke McGregor. In addition to the launch of both her Amazon special All Talk and a new series of Rosehaven, Celia is the 2020 winner of Dancing With The Stars on Network Ten, taking home $50K for her chosen Charity Safe Steps Victoria.
It was a bit of a quiet week for us watching new TV (there's so little of it around worth chatting about), but that didn't stop us getting passionate about the things we were actually watching. Dan went to the cinema and saw all three Christopher Nolan Batman movies - Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises and his opinions on the films have shifted. (06:19) Both Chris and Dan are really excited by the new podcast The Oral History of The Office. The two discuss watching the show and how the podcast has made them feel about the show. {31:34) Rosehaven is one of the few really good Aussie comedies and both Dan and Chris are into it... with a few reservations. (58:32) Yes, this show ran long. But the passion these boys have for what they've been watching - it runs deep. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/always-be-watching/message

A flight over in Poland was stuck on the runway – and the airline asked the passengers to all chip in money for the missing part! Unbelievable. Stewart’s work asked for money for basic kitchen items, and Holly had to chip in a ridiculous amount of her own money for a compulsory Christmas party!Nathan explained the rundown of Lisa from The Veronica’s wedding – and it’s completely ridiculously hippie-ish. The guys got mouthy about hippie nonsense – and apparently others have experienced it too! Like Anya who thought a girls catch up wouldn’t involve chanting and colour chakras, or Laura who was forced to eat some pills that were made of something super gross. And awkward funnyman Luke McGregor is in town this weekend for some comedy shows, he called through to talk about his hit TV show Rosehaven which is coming into season 3, and how he’s actually had to walk off stage a couple of times at his own shows…. Docker’s now into kubernetes, being the last major vendor outside of Amazon to latch the orchestration framework into its strategy. Yup, as usual, it’s pretty much just kubernetes business yappin’. This week’s exegesis We’ll be looking at (https://www.patreon.com/sdt) The Four (https://www.patreon.com/sdt) this week in the exeges (https://www.patreon.com/sdt)i (https://www.patreon.com/sdt)s podcast (https://www.patreon.com/sdt). Coté is vacillating between upset and ¯_(ツ)_/¯ $1 Class-action settlements Got my Apple iBooks pay-day (https://twitter.com/cote/status/920720718639370247)! It was $1.14. For $1.14, I don’t think any sort of crime was committed. Coffee costs triple that (double if you shop around). Sounds like a big waste of time and money. Did I ever tell you about that refund gift card from T-Mobile I got? For 3 cents? What the fuck I do with that? Soon we’ll all bow to kubernetes Docker adds in support (https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/10/17/docker_ee_kubernetes_support/), official web-page with burger and brief value-props (https://www.docker.com/kubernetes), and over at (https://thenewstack.io/docker-fully-embraces-kubernetes/) The New Stack (https://thenewstack.io/docker-fully-embraces-kubernetes/). Now we can all just start The Battle of Death by a Thousand Value-props. E.g., hittin’ up that security angle hard-core (https://thenewstack.io/docker-fully-embraces-kubernetes/), talking about easily migrate-n-save for existing apps (https://thenewstack.io/docker-updates-legacy-application-migration-program/). Dave Bartoletti, Forrester: ‘said it's clear that Kubernetes has won at the orchestration layer. "There's too much mindshare around it," he said in a phone interview with The Register. "There are too many developers who just want this.”’…”Bartoletti said he expects vendors will try to move up the stack by providing security, integration, workflow, and managed services. He said Docker now will be free to focus on trying to be the best container platform for enterprises.” Looks like Bartoletti was the analyst sent around, he shows up in other coverage (https://cote.io/2017/10/17/docker-and-kubernetes/). Derrick Harris’s take (http://news.architecht.io/issues/intel-takes-on-nvidia-in-the-ai-data-center-and-docker-embraces-kubernetes-78832): “The problem is that it’s difficult to make enterprise sales when users want open source at the lower layers and to pay (real money, at least) at layers they deem more strategic. If that’s Kubernetes, then Docker either needs to support it commercially, or let someone else take all the revenue from the orchestration layer up while Docker keeps on spending money to keep the free part of the puzzle chugging. By supporting Kubernetes as part of Docker Enterprise, it now can make the argument that nobody understands containers better than Docker does, and there’s now no real reason to not pay for its enterprise version.” MTA IN DA HIZ-OUSE (https://thenewstack.io/docker-updates-legacy-application-migration-program/)! “We’ve seen 100 percent success rate for applications that meet our criteria across hundreds of Java and .NET applications (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjvQFtlNQ-M). Customers are able to see these results in five days or less. “Johnston added that some customers are able to double the release frequency of their software and cut total cost of ownership by 50 percent.” Snoopy on that shit: “MetLife applied this modernization pattern in one day to their Java application. Graham the 24 hour butcher. Off the back of the Luke McGregor chat last week the gang got in touch with a real life 24/7 emergency butcher, who inspired a character in the new ABC show Rosehaven. How he became a 24/7 butcher - what's the speciality they do - being portrayed on a show. Shaynna Blaze - The Block and new Design Show - huge 500k renovation in the first ep - the price of hiring her - Dan and Carlene's brown kitchen - being called a bogan. When did you get on TV overseas? A group of British backpackers have made it into our media because they posted a photo of themselves asking for a house share. And they were super hot. So everyone responded. Ashleigh went to Scotland to surprise her Grandma, got approached on the street by a news crew, got on the news and ruined the surprise! Ellie made the front page of a Welsh newspaper when her husband proposed to her onstage and Nathan got interviewed by 60 Minutes in Bali and they only used about 2 seconds of it!
Browny's back! Today we presented Jimmy Bartel with a trophy and a slab of Carlton Draught for his win on #FootyMastermind, and he was so excited about the beer he broke the trophy! We also spoke to Celia Pacquola about her new TV show Rosehaven, which is on ABC. Massive show! Listen up... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Interviews and documentaries about Nonprofit Organizations in Portland Oregon
In this Nonprofit Hour show we'll be hearing about a couple of nonprofits that are long established ones in the Portland area who are doing tremendously important work for people in vulnerable populations and doing it in a way that maintains their clients dignity and self worth. In the first half of the show Phil Busse spoke at our latest live recording event with Elise Downing of Sisters of the Road - a homeless support and advocacy group that has been operating in our city since 1979. It's been such a long standing foundation in our community that there's even a song written about them which we'll hear about during their interview. In the second half of the show we will learn about Rosehaven an organization that is approaching 20 years of serving women and children experiencing the trauma of abuse, loss of home and other disruptive life challenges. We were joined in our studio by their Executive Director, Rebekah Albert to took us through the history of Rosehaven and painted a picture of the experiences their guests have faced and how they created a safe, respectful community with support and services to assist the women and children in regaining stability in their lives.
The one where I resurrect the only chat I was able to get at the ABC's 2016 UpFronts ("Catch the Wonderful") with the very excellent LUKE MCGREGOR. In this sneaky short chat we talk about his new series LUKE WARM SEX and his new comedy he's writing and starring in with CELIA PACQUOLA! LOVE A LOTTA LUKE!TwitterFacebook
In the end of the archives Phil got to chat comedy, acting and spirituality with Celia Pacquola. So please, sit down...
DG Martin interviews Clyde Edgerton - Lunch at the Piccadilly With a hint of Southern charm, a dash of distinctive dialogue, and a whole lot of humor, North Carolina’s own Clyde Edgerton spoons up a healthy helping of old-timer fun in his latest book Lunch at the Piccadilly. The best-selling author discusses his eighth deliciously funny novel with host D.G. Martin on North Carolina Bookwatch, UNC-TV’s weekly literary series. During this special episode, Edgerton shares his sensitivity and sympathy for the challenges of aging through the ups and downs of his new novel’s nursing home residents at the Rosehaven Convalescent Center. Through the eyes of his middle-aged main character Carl Turnage, and his eccentric aunt, Rosehaven’s lively octogenarian Lil Olive, Edgerton takes us to Lunch at the Piccadilly with savvy, style, and an unabashed sense of humor.
