Sarah Davidson's first blood relative arrived when she gave birth to her son Teddy. Growing up, Sarah always knew she was adopted; brought to Australia from South Korea at just five months old, it was never a secret her parents, her brother and Sarah herself weren't biologically related to each other. But even after finding out you're adopted there are so many other questions, some of which people may choose to never find answers for. As Adoption Awareness Month comes to a close, we find out what life growing up adopted in Australia is really like. Welcome to Pass Around the Smile's first guest episode with the one and only, Sarah Davidson. You may know her as Spoonful of Sarah, or the woman behind Seize the Yay where through her podcast and book she effortlessly guides and inspires with uplifting, honest and thought provoking content. Sarah is witty, intelligent, and from my eyes, one of the most inspiring business women in Australia who went from the corporate world as a lawyer, to funtrepreneur when she founded Matcha Maiden and Matcha Mylkbar.I received a very supportive and encouraging email from Sarah at the beginning of my podcasting journey, so I thought what better way to begin this episode than chatting about her quote, ‘success doesn't halve when you share it, it doubles.'We dive into Sarah's leap from what was expected to be her long term career as a lawyer to the unknowns of starting a business - with all the fears, blocks and limiting beliefs which came along the way. Sarah has a really refreshing approach as we discuss comparison and imposter syndrome and how we can combat it, so it doesn't take away our inner power. We finish the episode chatting about growth and how we just don't know when the seeds we are planting will bloom! Your hard work WILL pay off in the way that is right for you and your unique path.Sarah's links below:View Sarah's website here!Find Sarah on Instagram here!@seize_the_yay @spoonful_of_sarah Cleo's links below:View my website here! In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, we sit down with the Founder of Seize the Yay, Sarah Davidson. She is prepared to seize the yay in life – a life that has not been without challenges. She started her career as a lawyer doing M & A deals and working 24/7 which, led her to suffer burnout. ‘I was gratified by how successful my life seemed on the outside and, most of the time I was in law, I thought I was really happy' says Sarah. ‘But, when you are accepting good, you don't go looking for great' and this is the camp that Sarah sat in for many years. Sarah shares the catalyst for change which she refers to as the ‘great infamous accident of 2013'. After visiting Africa Sarah realised that happiness and success are not the same. She also, unknowingly, brought home a gut parasite which led to a point where was stuck in a bathroom for 6 hours and was then unable to get out of bed for 3 months. It took Sarah over 3 years for her body to become healthy and strong enough to work a full day again. ‘Previously, there was no part of my life dedicated to re-fulling my body or my mind.' says Sarah. ‘But it is in the darkness that you grow your strength which will arm you for the next chapter.' When you're running a fast race you need your body to operate like a machine. Coffee had been Sarah's crutch during the early stages of her career however, once Sarah became unwell the addictive nature of coffee led her to take a powerful step. She left her law firm and become the CEO of her own destiny and started a business. Sarah says, ‘saying goodbye to one thing allowed me to discover something new which was Macha Powder.' She built up - Matcha Maiden until one day, she was able to sell it. She shares her feelings from that time. ‘It brought out a side in me that I did not expect.' So, now that Sarah has sold Matcha Maiden, started the ‘Seize the Yay' podcast and written a book, what is next for Sarah? ‘I don't really know what my next powerful step is – but I do know that I don't need a step. I've learnt to surrender to the uncertainty. Maybe the world has something in store for me that I cannot plan.' So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with the extraordinary Sarah Davidson. Today I am joined by the wonderful Sarah Davidson - founder of Matcha Maiden, Matcha Mylkbar & host of the Seize The Yay podcast. I have a been a big fan of Sarah's for some time now and I love her even more after this interview (total fan girl moment for me)! Today we chat about how Sarah got to where she is today, the happy accidents & sliding doors moment that have landed her in many unforeseen but amazing situations as well as how the entire Seize The Yay concept came to be. In and amongst this, a chat about the danger zone a lot of us are in - the zone where we won't really question what we are doing, unless we are actively unhappy. She refers to this as the autopilot circuit and gives us her tips on how to break this and find true purpose - even if we don't change a thing. We also chat about Seizing Your NAY which is equally as important as the yay, finding your why, rewiring failures as movement forwards and her tips on meaningful self care.We end with a chat about the importance of PLAY & why dreaming big needs to be small enough so you can actually start.I can't wait for you to tune into this one - I know you will love it as much as me! Sarah Davidson was a young, hard-working lawyer with a severe caffeine habit when she was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue - a condition that left her in a state of constant exhaustion. And no, not even 10 cups of coffee a day could help her. In a bid to replace her coffee addiction whilst traveling in Asia, Sarah discovered Matcha. A finely ground powder of green tea leaves. Little did she know that that discovery would lead her to start a side hustle called Matcha Maiden and later on, become a full-time self-described fun-trepreneur. Sarah is also the host of the Seize The Yay podcast and has just written a book, totally transforming what was once her corporate career into a LadyStartup. So how did she do it? Sarah started her professional life as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at a leading international law firm. She spent several years there and learned and developed some invaluable skills. However, she knew early on that “the corporate life” didn’t light her fire and wouldn’t be the long-lasting career she had dreamt of originally. Sarah’s passion for health, wellbeing, nutrition, and creativity soon took over her desire to work the 9-to-5 as a lawyer, and her then creative outlet and “side-hustle” called “Matcha Maiden” that she created with her husband and business partner Nick, started to boom and in late 2014, Matcha Maiden was asked to supply the giant US retailer, Urban Outfitters with organic green tea on a recurring basis.Sarah made the jump into full-time entrepreneur that day and she hasn’t looked back. Two years later, she founded the trailblazing vegan café in Melbourne called, Matcha Mylkbar and launched her super successful podcast, Seize the Yay.Her podcast is an investigation into how some of the world's most inspiring people find their "yay", whether it's through work, rest or play and any other pearls of wisdom they have along the way.Sarah published her first book last year notably named the same as her podcast - Seize The Yay. I really enjoyed reading it and it pretty much sums up how exciting life can be when you grab it by the balls. We absolutely loved learning from this amazing lady. So if you’re looking to create a successful business or side hustle - then this masterclass is a must-listen!!Keep in touch with Sarah:InstagramSeize The Yay Podcast Spoonful of SarahWebsite:Spoonful of SarahMatcha Maiden Podcast - Seize The YayBook - Seize The Yay (Launched September 2020)PLUSIf you enjoy listening to the pod there are a few ways you would absolutely make our day (and week, and year!!) and help support us so we can continue to create kickass content just for you!The quickest way is to make sure you click that FOLLOW button on Spotify, and hit SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcasts (or wherever you get your poddies) to make sure you never miss an episode! And if you are an Apple Podcasts user, we would be thrilled if you can take one minute to leave us a 5-star rating and a glowing review so even more of you fabulous GrowGetters can find us!If you’re more of a social media maven, then you can follow us on LinkedIn and Instagram at @growgetters.io where we post a whole swag of tips, tools, advice, and hacks on future-proofing your career! We run a weekly Clubhouse room to discuss Future-Proofing, Future Skills, The Future of Thought Leadership, and much, much more. For a second guest this person was exceptional and boy was she both eloquent in her explanations as she was (and is) intelligent!! Spoonful of Sarah / Sarah (Holloway) Davidson is a Lawyer Turned Funtreprenuer and like many other guests I will have on, I was first introduced via one of the challenges I partook in through Body By Finch, which she was an expert guest on. Anddd the rest is history!! Sarah is the one and only who brought MATCHA into the mainstream markets of Australia where it was neither easily accessible nor recognised, naming it Matcha Maiden. Then went onto launching a Melbourne cafe dedicated to all things Matcha (Mylkbar). Not to mention has a Spoonful of Sarah forum, is an Author, has a Seize the Yay podcast and merchandise owner which includes: flipbooks; t-shirts and necklaces!! Since our introduction I had purchased her book and I seriously felt like I was following her life events in symmetry, where her “sliding doors” moments were in fact occurring to me. Not to mention whilst reading I decided to bring this passion project up a notch plus continue to educate myself through this forum which is now called Unearthing Wellbeing. Sarah's humility is emphasised in spades during this podcast whereby she shares anecdotes, advice, and a giggle with me. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to have her on and I hope you enjoy this episode. If you would like to purchase any of her merchandise including her book Seize The Yay the link is here! Use YAYBORHOOD for 10% off everything. To find out what unfolded, tune into this week's episode. Topics covered: imposter syndrome, start-up business, author, seize the yay, matcha maiden, self-doubt, wellbeing, adrenal fatigue, mental health, anxiety, covid19, vulnerabilities, self-care + Follow Sarah Davidson here + Announcements on Insta at @_askelizabeth + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of Unearthing Wellbeing! From high-flying lawyer to (equally) high-flying 'funtrepreneur'...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it’s the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today. My usual disclaimer in these strange and unprecedented times; this interview was recorded well before Corona became a common word in our vernacular, so I hope you a) are doing ok and b) enjoy it as a virus respite.Today, my guest is Sarah Davidson, co-founder of Matcha Maiden and creator of Seize the Yay. Incredibly driven and articulate, Sarah has already had a number of careers. She doesn’t do things by halves - and the results speak for themselves.Sarah shared her journey from ballerina to lawyer to entrepreneur to so-called ‘funtrepreneur’ and the products that have marked her beauty journey along the way. We talked about being adopted and how that’s helped shape her identity, how illness led to the discovery and foundation of mega successful Matcha Maiden, her sensible and reassuring advice about taking the leap into the unknown, and the best foundation for acne-prone skin she’s been wearing for 15 years. She's interviewed some incredibly successful and inspiring people on her brilliant podcast Seize The Yay, but I hope you'll find, like me, Sarah herself is equally as inspiring as as any of them. As we’re forced to stay home and maybe reflect on our lives and career, I hope you’ll find comfort or a spark in her story. As always if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate five stars and write a review. “Lawyer turned funtrepreneur” Sarah Davidson was busy climbing the corporate ladder when she started a side hustle with her now husband Nic – a tea business called Matcha Maiden. Within just a few months, they were inundated with so many orders that Sarah quit her office job to work on the project full-time. But over the last few years, Sarah's personal brand has also become a focus, with her Instagram page Spoonful of Sarah attracting 70k+ followers. She's also got a podcast of her own, called Seize the Yay. I ask Sarah about how growing up as a professional ballerina taught her the discipline she needed to start her own business and how she's developed her ability to pivot time and time again throughout her career. When Sarah Holloway returned from a trip to Africa, she came back with more than memories of an Instagramable adventure. Within days of being home in Melbourne from the trip with her fiancé Nick Davidson, the 30-year-old then lawyer began drastically dropping weight. A few months later she crashed with adrenal fatigue. Doctors to discover she had been suffering with a parasite for months. During her recovery Sarah took a work trip to Hong Kong where she discovered matcha green tea powder. Sarah and her partner Nick became hooked and decided to launch a social media-driven side hustle selling matcha powder, investing just $5000. Just six months after Matcha Maiden launched in 2015, US retailer Urban Outfitters placed a monthly, 3000-package order for six months (selling across their US stores) after discovering the brand on Instagram. Sarah took a leap of faith, and quit her job to focus on the booming business full-time. In 2016 the pair opened a vegan cafe Matcha Mylkbar in Melbourne, Matcha Mylkbar. Sarah has gone on to launch a podcast, Seize The Yay.

Today we cover how we both time manage with (almost) full-time placement, owning/running different 5 businesses, and tonnes of co-curricular activities (VFL for me, naps for Sarah), between the two of us. How strategies are VERY different so we take you through them both. We also take you briefly through our week on plate with some nuggets of absolute random banter between, as per usual. For those who don't already know Sarah Holloway, she is a one-of-a-kind lawyer turned entrepreneur who gave up her financially stable and highly successful career as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer to sell a green powder online (it's not what you think, this is a PG podcast). Sarah CO-FOUND the global matcha business, Matcha Maiden, in 2014, and then infamous vegan cafe, Matcha Mylkbar, in 2015. In addition to co-founding these 2 businesses, she also is the founder of her own brand Spoonful of Sarah and podcast Seize The Yay. To top it all off, she is a speaker, a fiance, a daughter, a mentor and my best friend. Yes she does sleep, yes she is incredibly hard-working, no it didn't all land on her lap, yes she has a lot on her plate and no, I still haven't figured out how she does it all.Follow her Instagram at @spoonful_of_sarahCheck out her website www.spoonfulofsarah.comGet some matcha in your life hereAbout Brain Fart (with Ang and friends) Through this podcast I hope to share all my thoughts and ruminations, learnings and losses and views and opinions on all the things that I have created, experienced, achieved and FAILED in my 22 years of living- alongside some of the most epic people that I have met along the way. Sarah Holloway is lawyer turned funtreprenuer and the Founder of Matcha Maiden and Seize the Yay, the Podcast. Sarah is someone I have felt so many synergies with. From starting our brands as side-hustles, to leaving our corporate careers as lawyers - it was a pleasure to have Sarah on this episode with me as we dived into some lessons we've learnt through starting our brands as side hustles, what to keep in mind when things go wrong, to how to stand out and remain relevant in a specific industry. We sit down with the joyful and engaging Sarah Holloway, former lawyer and co-creator of Matcha Maiden and Matcha Mylkbar, about what it takes to find your life purpose, her accidental journey into creating her own global brand and how she manages her anxiety.
About Sarah Holloway Sarah and I sit down (more like lie down on her bed) for some candid chats about how we met, our views on high school, our self-chosen strengths, where this podcast is going and so much more. Enjoy our natural banter, our uninterrupted flow (LOL JKS we cannot stay on topic to save our lives) and overall friendship in this unscripted, unplanned and completely unlike anything else, chat. Yes she does sleep, yes she is incredibly hard-working, no it didn't all land on her lap, yes she has a lot on her plate and no, I still haven't figured out how she does it all.Follow her Instagram at @spoonful_of_sarahCheck out her website www.spoonfulofsarah.comGet some matcha in your life hereWatch Sarah sing with my sister Katherine here (sorry not sorry, Sarah)About Brain Fart (with Ang and friends) Through this podcast I hope to share all my thoughts and ruminations, learnings and losses and views and opinions on all the things that I have created, experienced, achieved and FAILED in my 22 years of living- alongside some of the most epic people that I have met along the way. The very first episode of the Seize the Yay podcast giving some context to who I am and what this is all about. If you've heard the story already, feel free to jump ahead to the first official interview which will follow in a few days. I roped in my mini-me, Ang Roan, who works across all our businesses and is a dear friend for some casual get-to-know-you banter since I get bored with my own voice after a while so can't expect you not to! Our Q&A covers not only what Seize the Yay means but also my lawyer to funtrepreneur transition, some of the nitty gritty behind the scenes along the way, being adopted, a special guest appearance from Mama Holloway and lots of laughs in between. Hope you enjoy! + Show notes will be available here + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Subscribe so you don't miss out on the next instalment of YAY!
