It's almost time for us to meet Sweeti Jr! Sweetie will be giving birth to the latest member of the Sweetie Club any day now, so we decided to prepare by watching some classic movies about babies. First up, the sequel to the hit 80s flick Honey, I Shrunk the Kids----Honey, I Blew Up the Kid!  Following the Szalinski's to Las Vegas, this sequel introduces 2 year old Adam who accidentally gets in the way of Dad's new enlarging laser at the lab and turns into a giant baby that takes over Vegas. While this one doesn't hold a candle to the OG, the Sweeties were touched by how much they could relate to the toddler moments. Plus, how can we ever hate one of our number one sweeties Rick Moranis!?

Happy 2024 from Retro Guardians!! Get out your magnifying glasses and join us as we shrink down to size for a blockbuster flashback in this week's episode, where we revisit the beloved 1989 family adventure film, "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids." We'll explore the wild, backyard odyssey of the Szalinski kids and their pint-sized pals after a scientific mishap renders them as small as ants. From dodging raindrops like boulders to riding bees like fighter jets, we'll dissect the incredible journey that turns everyday grass into vast jungles and Cheerios into life rafts. We will delve into how this film sparked the imaginations of a generation. We'll also look at the heartwarming family dynamics and earnest inventiveness that helped the film capture the hearts of its audience. Beyond the thrilling escapades and close calls with scorpions, the movie is a tale of perspective, both literal and metaphorical, and a testament to the ingenuity and resilience of kids (and parents) when faced with monumental challenges. So, whether you're a child of the '80s, a fan of family-centric cinema, or just in the mood for a story where blades of grass loom like skyscrapers, tune in for a conversation that promises to be bigger than life itself. Don't miss out on this microscopic look at a colossal classic! Hit play to embark on this diminutive journey – no shrinking ray required. And remember, in the world of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids," adventure doesn't come any bigger! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/retroguardians/message

The Szalinski family is back and bigger than ever! Following the massive success of 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Disney jumped at the opportunity to franchise the sci-fi family comedy. Two sequels followed, one hit theaters while the other went straight-to-video. Returning guest Jamie Gagnon joins Zach & Brandon to discuss 1992's Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. They get into its production history, insane plot and special effects. They've also got questions like why does every woman in this movie faint? Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast. Today, I'm bringing you the next installment in the HONEY Franchise with 1992's Honey, I BLEW UP The Kid. In this movie, The Szalinski family is back, this time hilarious disaster strikes when an experiment causes their new toddler son to grow many stories tall. I really enjoyed this movie almost as much as the first installment, I remember when I first saw the trailer on TV when I was 10 I was so excited at this next chapter. I even got the 32 Page Book courtesy of Scholastic's Book Order and much later the chapter book. Maybe later I'll cover some of the chapter book in a separate podcast episode, so we can get inside the heads of the characters. I really enjoyed covering this movie and hope you all enjoy listening to it. I'll be back in June to cover the third and final installment in the series, the straight to video sequel, Honey, WE shrunk Ourselves. Have a great weekend everyone! This is Deep in the Plus. Here’s where we go into the Disney+ catalog and pull out some of the movies and TV shows that you haven’t gotten around to yet, and we break them down to see if they’re worth your time. This week, we’re traveling back to 1989 and the Disney classic – Honey, I Shrunk The Kids! This is the story of inventor Wayne Szalinski, played by Canadian heartthrob Rick Moranis. Wayne is a brilliant, yet absent-minded scientist, building a shrink ray that will change the world. Only, it doesn’t work... it just blows stuff up. When the kid next door hits a baseball through the window and it lands in the path of the machine's laser, it begins working. Wayne's two kids, plus the ones next door end up getting shrunk. Now the four children have been taken out with the trash and have to find their way back across the world's most dangerous backyard, so Wayne can make them big again. A tale as old as time. Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Review Honey I Shrunk the Kids is definitely an icon property for the Walt Disney Company. With a trilogy of movies, a short-lived TV series, and lost park attractions such as "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!" and the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Movie Set Adventure, Disney has a lot invested in the series. And don't forget, a new movie has been announced with Josh Gad joining the Szalinski family. (Can we bring back the playground?) But with all that, does this movie stand up for a 2020 audience? Watch this episode and decide for yourself. Is this movie for you? Do you agree with our thoughts? And don't forget, in every episode of Deep in the Plus, you'll get bonus recommendations as we present our "Pick of the Week." This is where we offer suggestions on even more gems from the Disney+ vault. Don't miss it! Our review of Honey I Shrunk The Kids is the 12th episode of Deep in the Plus! Rick Moranis stars as lovable dad and ambitious college professor Wayne Szalinski, who has recently become something of a laughing stock to his peers when he dares to introduce a potential way to drastically reduce the size of everyday objects.  His own experiments have proved futile, but a fluke accident causes the reduction machine to finally work -- too bad the Szalinski children are the ones in the ray's path, along with the rambunctious neighbor kids, the Thompsons.  Wayne accidentally tosses the kids out with the trash, causing the miniscule kids to have to venture through the entire yard and hope they can grab the attention of their parents, and, hopefully, the professor can figure out a way to grow them back to normal size again.  Making it there proves more difficult than it would seem, with treacherous bugs and other pollutants blocking the way at nearly every turn.

Welcome back to Bob's Lake, D Lovers! Vicky, Nolan and Jill could think of no better way to celebrate the sequel to our kinda-sorta live show than doing our very first Disney sequel; so let's give a warm welcome back to the Szalinski family (except for Amy who vanishes about five minutes into the movie) with Honey, I Blew Up the Kid! You may wonder what inspired a sequel that basically just does the inverse story of the original, but if you thought it was because someone thought of the idea "giant baby" and shoehorned it into an existing property, you wouldn't be that far off. The end result is a sequel that doesn't quite compare to its original (or arguably its own direct-to-video sequel), but certainly has its charms. More Rick Moranis is always a plus, especially when paired with a very impressive toddler performer; the Nick and Keri Russell romance has just the right of dark sexual undertones to it; and watching a fully-grown man dressed up as a toddler in an over-sized sports jacket is more entertaining than you might think. So enjoy the sounds of nature and the great outdoors and celebrate the last days of summer with your favourite podcast hosts in this week's episode of We Want The D!

It had been a really long time since Chris, Donna, and Carlos had seen this movie. As kids, they all watched the first sequel a lot more despite the fact that they liked it a lot less. So there wound up being a ton of fun surprises with this viewing. Chris remembers going to see this after he had finally recovered from Johnny 5's horrific beating in Short Circuit 2 and finding no reason why he shouldn't get attached to the character of Anty, Donna recalls her attempts to recreate this movie with her friends, and Carlos laments a childhood that didn't include a trip to the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids playground at Disney World. Other topics include: the lack of explanation and payoff surrounding the troubled Szalinski marriage (I mean... is it even troubled?), the otherwise perfect first act, several ways this whole shrinking the kids problem could have been solved in about ten minutes, Carlos' issues with some of the calculations these characters are running, a few super weird tangents about a lusty soccer mom, the way the film expertly handles the special effects, and much more! Bottom line - we had a blast with this movie and we were all really excited to talk about it! iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
