Michael Popok examines the new lawsuit the DOJ has filed against Boston and its Mayor to force it to destroy its Sanctuary City laws to not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, and the likely dismissal of the suit as a violation of States Rights and the 10th Amendment to the Constitution. On today's podcast: 1) President Trump started his immigration crackdown in Chicago, with federal agents stepping up enforcement in an escalating campaign against Democratic-run cities. The Department of Homeland Security said Operation Midway Blitz targets “criminal illegal aliens” and blamed Illinois Governor JB Pritzker for sanctuary policies that it said help shield lawbreakers.2) House Democrats released an alleged birthday note that they said Donald Trump sent to Jeffrey Epstein, raising pressure on the president over questions about his past interactions with the late disgraced financier. The release stems from a trove of documents received by the House Oversight Committee, including a birthday book compiled for Epstein’s 50th birthday and his last will and testament.3) Investors in the Treasuries market face a test of bullish sentiment this week from inflation reports and a benchmark revisions for jobs data. The market's ability to extend this month's rally will depend on the tone of producer and consumer inflation due Wednesday and Thursday.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

FULL SHOW | Today, Dawn led off the Dawn Stensland Show by offering some dreary numbers regarding Chicago's crime over Labor Day weekend, regretfully reporting that there have been over 50 murders over the weekend alone. This leads Dawn to play back some audio from MSNBC this morning, where even Joe Scarborough has noted that it's time for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to make a call to Trump for help. Then, Dawn moves into a new topic, offering her commentary on the rise of artificial intelligence in our lives, playing back a news report featuring parents of a 16 year old who committed suicide after conversations with ChatGPT. Then, Dawn invites Marc Beckman, author of Some Future Day: How AI Is Going to Change Everything, onto the Dawn Stensland Show to hear his lengthy expertise on the inclusion of AI into daily life. First, Dawn notes that Beckman welcomed Melania Trump onto his Some Future Day podcast, asking him whether their conversation spurned what we're seeing now from Melania and the White House as she launches an initiative hoping to foster AI development. Then, Dawn and Beckman delve into the nitty gritty, with Beckman laying forth guidelines for society to move forward with an embrace of the new technology. In today's second hour, Dawn welcomes in Guy Ciarrocchi of the Commonwealth Foundation, who penned and released a new piece today focusing on safety in our schools. First, though, Dawn and Ciarrocchi delve into the rhetoric set forth by Democrats such as Krasner in Philadelphia, but explain that cities like Chicago, who elected progressive leaders, are far worse off. Then, Dawn and Ciarrocchi delve into the content of the piece penned for B+L, with Guy revealing how misappropriated funds by our governmental officials may create an unsafe situation for students in our public schools.
1. Trip Recap & Foreign Relations El Salvador:Cruz praises President Nayib Bukele for drastically reducing homicide rates by aggressively targeting gangs like MS-13 and 18th Street. He contrasts El Salvador’s success with U.S. crime and immigration challenges. Panama:He toured the Panama Canal and highlighted U.S. concerns about China’s growing influence there, including ports, bridges, and tunnels near the canal. Cruz warns that China could disrupt canal traffic in a future conflict, threatening U.S. national and economic security. Mexico:Cruz met with senior Mexican officials (Foreign Secretary, Defense Secretary, Agriculture Secretary). He urged cooperation on border security and dismantling drug cartels, stressing Trump’s policies and a reported 99% drop in illegal border crossings. Mexican leaders, including President Claudia Sheinbaum, rejected U.S. military involvement, citing “sovereignty.” Cruz compared Mexico’s stance to El Salvador’s crackdown and Colombia’s Plan Colombia (early 2000s), arguing that success requires political will. He warned that if Mexico refuses, the U.S. may still act militarily against cartels under Trump’s leadership. 2. Domestic Politics & Crime Cruz and Ferguson shift focus to Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, criticizing him for downplaying crime in Chicago. Cruz cites statistics on Chicago’s murder rate (highest in the U.S. for 13 consecutive years) and argues Democrats prioritize criminals over victims. He frames Democrat policies in Illinois, California, and nationally as failures comparable to Mexico’s refusal to confront cartels. 3. Broader Political Commentary Cruz claims Democrats have become the “party of criminals,” siding with offenders over law-abiding citizens. He notes polling showing Americans are highly concerned about crime in cities. Discussion touches on 2025 midterm elections: Republicans may benefit from Democrat extremism. But Cruz worries about a GOP “enthusiasm gap,” citing a special election loss in Iowa. He stresses the need for Republican voter turnout despite Trump’s early policy “successes.” Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. August 31, 2025; 7am: All eyes are on Chicago after President Trump's continued threats to deploy the National Guard to the Windy City. On Saturday, Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order demanding that Trump stand down. In response, President Trump continued his threats, warning Illinois Governor JB Pritzker to “straighten out” Chicago quickly or the city will be subjected to federal law enforcement takeover. The President has echoed these threats to several Democrat-led cities, and elected officials are issuing a warning: military troops who carry out Trump's orders might be at risk for prosecution. Philadelphia's District Attorney, Larry Krasner, joins “The Weekend” to discuss. Here are 3 big things you need to know— One — The White House says Illinois Governor JB Pritzker should be asking for help with controlling crime in Chicago. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Chicago's crime rate is Pritzker's legacy. President Trump has talked about possibly conducting a similar crime crackdown in Chicago like the one in Washington, D.C. Two --- The average rate on a 30-year U.S. mortgage slipped this week to its lowest level in 10 months, though it remains close to where it's been in recent weeks. The long-term rate eased to 6.56% from 6.58% last week. A year ago, the rate averaged 6.35%. Elevated mortgage rates have added to a slump in the U.S. housing market that began in early 2022. And number three --- Former Major League Baseball star Mark Teixeira is running for Congress in Texas. He once played for the Texas Rangers before finishing is career in New York with the Yankees. The self-described "lifelong conservative" he's ready to defend President Trump's America First agenda.
President Trump moves to expand the military's role in law enforcement around the nation, and suggests Chicago could be next. Then, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker vows to resist Trump's plans for troops on the ground, calling them “illegal, unconstitutional, and unamerican.” Plus, Trump says he's removing Federal Reserve board member Lisa Cook. In his dismissal letter he writes, “there is sufficient reason to believe you may have made false statements on one or more mortgage agreements.” Rohit Chopra, Luke Broadwater, Susan Glasser, David Drucker, Natasha Sarin, Brendan Greeley, Joyce Vance, and Mike Isaac join The 11th Hour this Monday night.
Today's Headlines: Trump claims he's “not-a-dictator” while justifying plans to send the National Guard into states under the banner of fighting crime. He followed that up by signing a stack of executive orders: one to criminalize flag-burning (directly challenging a Supreme Court ruling that protects it as free speech), and another targeting cashless bail by pressuring cities and D.C. to roll it back. He also picked new fights with Chris Christie and threatened to have FCC revoke their licenses - which he can't really do. Meanwhile, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker is openly defying Trump, calling him a wannabe dictator and vowing to stop him. On Capitol Hill, the House Oversight Committee subpoenaed Epstein's estate for financial records, contacts, and his infamous birthday book. In deportation news, ICE re-detained Kilmar Abrego Garcia—less than 24 hours after his release—though a judge has temporarily blocked his deportation to Uganda. In other news, Venezuela's Nicolás Maduro is urging citizens to join the pro-government militia in response to U.S. warships and a $50M bounty on his head (though his claim of 4.5M soldiers is… generously padded). Trade tensions are also flaring again, with foreign postal services pausing shipments to the U.S. over confusion around Trump's changes to tariff exemptions. Lastly, Elon Musk's xAI is suing Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of illegally rigging the AI market by locking ChatGPT into every iPhone. The Mayor of Chicago says the city does not need an occupation by the military and an attempt by Trump to do so would be a flagrant violation of the Constitution.
